The Best Restaurants in Boston’s North End | Eater Boston

"Ever since it opened in early 2023, Sunny Girl has been brightening the mornings of just about everyone who stops by for a breakfast pick-me-up. The warm, fluffy, housemade English muffins are unforgettable, and each sandwich boasts flavorful ingredient combinations. For first-time visitors, start with the local favorite that ties in traditional North End flavor: the “Truffle Shuffle,” with an overeasy egg, truffle pecorino, burrata, pancetta, tomato conserva, and basil gremolata." - Erika Adams

Boston’s Best Breakfast Sandwiches | Eater Boston

"The bounty of breakfast sandwiches at Sunny Girl, which opened in the North End in April 2023, makes mornings a little sunnier. Highlights on the plentiful menu include the o.g., which features a fried egg, American cheese, and house “sunny” sauce, plus the lox with smoked salmon, everything-spiced marscarpone, confit fennel, and citrus salad. Both are served on a fluffy house-made English muffin." - Nathan Tavares

The 18 Best Breakfast Spots In Boston 2024

"At Sunny Girl in the North End, it’s all about the breakfast sandwiches. Specifically the one with a fried egg, bacon, cheddar, and, importantly, smashed avocado that’s already included (and not a $2 add-on). We’re also smitten with their Artie Party sandwich with crispy mortadella, and The Lox that’s loaded with confit fennel and a citrus salad to brighten up the smoked fish and mascarpone spread. The small counter-service spot has around half a dozen bar stools, so it’s great for a quick, casual breakfast on a weekday morning.  " - lala thaddeus

Google
We needed a quick lunch and stumbled across Sunny Girl's for some sandwiches. Ended up ordering three different things to try and everything surpassed our expectations. Figuring out what to choose took longer than them making our order. Great service, quick sandwich and awesome combinations. Thanks for the delicious meal!

Google
We had the sunny girl muffin and madame croque for breakfast! Both was delicious 😋 Coffee variety could be better, but the coffee blend they use was good. Maybe a hand washing facility would be great!

Google
This places serves the most delicious bacon. It was thick and savory. The toast was good, but I wish I had ordered one of their sandwiches instead. I saw most people eating there ordered one and it looked delicious. My husband also loved his meal. He eats gluten free so he had the corn tortilla with two over easy eggs and bacon. He loved it! Con: is that the place is very small and limited seating outside. This place was super busy, but this is not necessarily a bad thing. It must mean that the people love the food from there & with good reason. It was delicious!

Google
Sunny Girl is bustling on a Sunday morning, but their service stands out: friendly, helpful, and attentive!! It's especially true if you're unsure of what to order. However, my partner found an eggshell in their dish, which was disappointing. As for their original hot sauce, it was decent but lacked the kick and depth of flavor I expected. While the service and branding are top-notch, the food itself feels underwhelming. Given the long wait and the restaurant’s popularity, I wish the food was better. The portions of the breakfast sandwich were quite small, making it less filling than I’d hoped. My breakfast sandwich also tasted bland - with a lot of my favorite breakfast sandwiches, you can taste a little bit of everything but maybe the sunny Girl sandwich is not for me. It was nice to try at least.

Google
Sandwiches are great, they capture the greasy dinner experience but on the go. Bit of a wait to get one, and definitely pricey. But good once in awhile. Sunnygirl was the best (bottom) BGC was a cheese overload (left) Truffle shuffle had nice bread but was just okay (right)

Google
props to that review that encouraged me to get this spicy mortadella. the crisp, the spice, and the pistachio nuttiness along the creaminess is unreal. we were a big party that shared bites and this one won votes for the most loved. also still thinking about this a week later…

Google
Love it, Love the style and the employees so caring and professional. Except this place has a menu that is inspired by someone that knows food obviously, they have amazing home made muffins, that was what drew me in, I saw muffins walking by at night on the window that I came back 7 am next day on way to airport. The muffin was the best part of the sandwich, I wish I can say the eggs were amazing too but they where just OK, not amazing but you can't always get everything perfect I guess. Apple wood bacon was nice and thick but could be more crispy. Will be back Keep up the good work you guys are doing an amazing job.

Google
Boston’s best subs!! Oh my god, this place is sooo good! I’ve been there multiple times and never disappointed! My absolute favorites are the Truffle Shuffle and the Sunny Girl OG!

Yelp
Got a takeout order from here and the breakfast sandwiches were amazing! The sunny girl was a classic combo done well (egg, avocado smash, bacon, and aioli), but the real standout was the artie party. If you like sweet and salty sandwich combos (in this case, smokey ham with jam and marscapone), you'll probably like this too. Our order was prepared very quickly and packaged well despite the messiness of the runny eggs. I can't wait to get the artie party again and to try more of their menu options!
google avatar

Yelp
Sausage Egg and cheese is great. The biscuit is homemade. The egg is runny and adds flavor. Order your food at the counter and grab a table out front and they will call out your name when your order is ready.

Yelp
Some of the best breakfast sandwiches in town. I got the truffle shuffle and sunny girl. I couldn't decide and ate both haha! They both have their strengths but the truffle shuffle was so unique. Both breads were extremely soft and just plain delicious
google avatar

Yelp
A hidden gem in Boston for sure. It's hard to find a truly amazing breakfast place but Sunny Girl is it. Be sure to get the Sunny Girl sauce. It's almost like an amazing aioli with a kick. Their homemade English muffins are also amazing. I will go out of my way anytime I'm in Boston to just experience this sandwich again.

Yelp
English muffin sandwich with bacon, it was the sunny side girl. Best English muffin ever, homemade. This is a take out spot but excellent service and quality!
google avatar

Bonnie G.

Yelp
Such great breakfast sandwiches, oozing with warm egg, served on homemade, soft English muffins. Loved the simple OG, just the right patty size to start the day. The sunny girl was also great and a little heartier, with bacon and smashed avocado. Would totally come here weekly if I lived nearby. 5 stars!!!

Yelp
A perfect breakfast stop in the north end commercial street spot. The basic B toast and iced tea was so yummy and I can't wait to return. I sat outside in the sun, it was perfection.
google avatar

Danielle V.

Yelp
Amazing breakfast spot with great sandwich's. They don't have much indoor seating but have a few tables outside as well. The sunny girl sandwich with sausage was really great and decently priced. I also got a coffee and that was good too. Overall loved this place and if I lived here it would be a frequent stop
google avatar

Monica L.

Yelp
Cute little sandwich shop in north end! The cashier was very friendly too and conversational. (Everything is take out!) I got the truffle shuffle! It was very flavorful and warm and yummy. The egg was very perfectly done. I think the overpowering flavor was definitely the tomato, but there were still subtle hints of truffle and basil and the cheese was good texture. The Iggys focaccia bread was also soo soft and good. Overall tasty but a stronger balance of flavors would've made it perfect! I think it'd be worth to come back but to try smth else
google avatar

Kristy A.

Yelp
Oh, these sandwiches are made on the best English muffins I've ever had in my life!! I seriously wish I could start every morning with one! The sauce, all the ingredients, is heavenly. The inside and outside sitting areas are nice and well-maintained. The service was good, a bit slower but well worth the wait. Sunny girl is so delicious!!
google avatar

Heather A.

Yelp
Super cute little sandwich shop! Me and my friends all got the Artie Party and it was delicious! They make their english muffins in house, but I chose to replace it for the sourdough. It was so good, and my friends all said the english muffin was delicious too. It had a nice balance of sweetness from the pistachio mascarpone. The lady who took our order was very nice as well and our food came out pretty fast. If you are in the area and want a good breakfast sandwich, this is the place to go.
google avatar

Elizabeth L.

Yelp
Great breakfast sandwich spot! Service was quick but friendly. Not very much room inside so best for taking to go or on a day you can sit outside. They have a big menu with breakfast sandwiches, I got the og. It was super messy to eat with a runny egg but so worth the mess. The English muffin is clearly homemade and so fluffy. The sauce they put on this is a spicy aioli style that doesn't have too much heat at all. Really enjoyed this and would come out of my way to get this again. Excited to try more!

Kristen S.

Yelp
Fantastic breakfast sandwiches in the North End. We got delivery to our hotel and it came within the time promised. I got the Sunny Girl and my husband got the lox. Also ordered a side of eggs and a side of sausage for our pup. My husband said it was one of the best lox sandwiches he has had. Also loved the homemade english muffins. Will be back!

Yelp
Last week I went to Sunny Girl located in the North End on 252 Commercial Street, Boston, MA. This cute grab n go spot has great options for both breakfast and lunch also their sandwiches use iggys bread which is a local Boston area spot that makes fresh bread daily! Their classic sunny girl sandwich has a fried egg, bacon, cheddar, smashed avocado, sunny sauce on a housemade english muffin. Their croque madame has a sunny-side-up egg on top of the sandwich. Inside of the sandwich there was rosemary ham, gruyère, pecorino toscano, smoked mozzarella, béchamel on an iggy's sourdough. If you are a truffle lover like me the truffle shuffle sandwich may be your choice here! It has an over easy nellie's egg with black truffle pecorino, burrata, tomato conserve, basil, on an iggy's focaccia. The star breakfast dish was smashed avocado toast with whipped honey-lemon mascarpone on iggy's 7-grain bread. The lemon mascarpone was so unique and a great treat! Finally, we had the turkey sandwich with had roasted turkey breast, marinated roasted tomatoes, basil gremolata on iggy's ciabatta. The North End doesnt just serve Italian classics check out Sunny Girl! 8/10 Food 6/10 Affordability

Yelp
The truffle sandwich is my fave. The gentlemen that takes the orders is just that a gentleman and very polite and helpful GREAT customer service !!! You can eat inside but space is limited - there is also seating outside (but best for warmer days)
google avatar

Phuong L.

Yelp
Overall a great breakfast place in the north end. I probs won't go outta my way to go again because the parking was rough and it was a bit overhyped for me. We still enjoyed our food but it wasn't above and beyond. Sunny girl: First off, the house made english muffin was definitely the best I've ever had. The classic combo of bacon, avocado, and cheddar was good. Croque madame: The meat was quite salty for my personal taste but the egg and toast were cooked well. *Limited seating maybe sits 8 on the inside but there were tables outside. It will probably be nice once it gets warmer. Parking is highkey impossible unless you are okay with paying for the lot.

Yelp
the first time i saw sunny girl it was at night, so i got to see all the homemade english muffins laid out for the next morning. i'm glad i walked by that one night and deviated from the norm of M&P's for breakfast sandwiches cause that truffle shuffle was a hit. bgc was good too. i dont love that i had to make my coffee and it's that expensive, but they had oat milk and simple syrup so i cant truly complain.
google avatar

Maeve M.

Yelp
YUM. Wow. I am not a huge english muffin fan, but I'm so glad I got one here. I don't think their homemade english muffins should even be called that. They are fluffy and delicious. The sunny girl sandwich was amazing and my boyfriend had some regret. The croque madame was good but very rich with the bechamel and had a lot of ham on it. Sat at the counter and savored every bite here!

Yelp
WHO KNEW??? On vacation in Boston and planned to spend the day in the North End the last day of our trip. Looked for a breakfast place with sit-down seating for four and Sunny Girl came up on our phone. So we went. In our heads, we were thinking it would be a regular restaurant, so imagine our surprise when we found it was just a little place with maybe six bar seats inside and a few small tables outside. We were about to leave and find a regular restaurant, but we didn't know the area and were running out of time, so we stayed. OMG. What an amazing place! Those were the best breakfast sandwiches we had ever had anywhere! I had the Arty Party with its over easy Nellie's egg, crispy mortadella, pistachio mascarpone and wild cherry mostarda on a homemade English muffin to die for. I could have eaten three easily. My husband (who is very picky about breakfast) LOVED his Sunny Girl with the fried Nellie's egg, north country smokehouse bacon, cheddar, and smashed avocado on a homemade English muffin. Our friends had the same as we did and were equally impressed. So now we're back in LA and I can't stop thinking about those sandwiches. I googled the recipe but nothing came up. I would KILL for that pistachio mascarpone, wild cherry mostarda and the sunny sauce. I think I'm doomed as we probably won't get back to Boston, being in our 80's. Good job, Sunny Girl!

Yelp
We opted for decent breakfast instead of just ok hotel breakfast today. So I found Sunny Girl. Inside is tiny. There are a few seats at the window (staring right into the sun). I think it's meant to be a grab & go thing. There are tables outside so that's what we did. I got the Sunny Girl which was good but super messy. That's what I get for avocado & egg on a sandwich. I needed 10 napkins! But it was yummy. He got the BGC - breakfast grilled cheese & coffee. He says it was good. Thanks for breakfast Sunny Girl.
google avatar

Kassie K.

Yelp
Was in town visiting a friend who lives down the street, and this was one of the best spot we ate during our visit. The fresh homemade English muffins are to die for. This is a small spot but you can tell it's popular among the locals due to how busy it was on the weekend! I would highly recommended to anyone, and if I'm ever in Boston again this is a must visit place!
google avatar

Alaina M.

Yelp
The best breakfast sandwiches in Boston!! These homemade english muffins are to die for. My friends came to visit and they said this was the best BEC they've ever had! The only downside is no turkey sausage or chicken sausage option for those that do not eat red meat (can add deli turkey). Amazing orange juice as well. A couple of outdoor seats when it's nice out! Friendly staff, and we always see the chef the night before preparing the english muffins so they are fresh. Do not go too late as they have sold out before!
google avatar

Iris Y.

Yelp
Would recommend if you want to grab a quick bite for lunch, or are really craving a sandwich (especially a breakfast sandwich). Cutest little place in the North End, they have a great selection of sandwiches that literally ALL look good. In the end I settled on the Turkey #2, which I don't regret! Super flavorful, the sauces added a bit of tang which was nice. Bread had a good chew and held up very well in the sandwich. Will definitely be returning to try their other menu items!
google avatar

Yelp
I've heard such great things about this little breakfast spot and was so excited to finally get the chance to try it! I went here on a Saturday morning and there was a huge line of people ordering and waiting for food. It was a bit overwhelming at first with so many people around, but I was able to order and wait outside for about 10 minutes for my food to be ready. I ordered their Sunny Girl sandwich which was delicious and packed with lots of bacon and avocado. I loved their fresh English muffin bread which really set this place apart from other breakfast spots in the city. I'd definitely love to come back and try some of their other sandwiches!

A J.

Yelp
Great food, wonderful coffee, fast & friendly service. Not much indoor seating but we found a few spots at the bar, also no public restroom. Had the Sunny Girl breakfast sandwich - bacon, egg, avocado, hot sauce and cheese. Perfect! Enjoy!
google avatar

Shawn M.

Yelp
A very modest place with incredible breakfast sandwiches. Employees were very polite and the wait was minimal.
google avatar

Marshall C.

Yelp
The restaurant is a little cramped but if you're willing to wait for somewhere to sit (or take it on the go) this is as good a breakfast spot as any. Affordable, delicious, fast.
google avatar

Merilou B.

Yelp
Just moved to the North End and have been in search of a good breakfast sandwich place! I've gone twice and have gotten the "sunny girl" sandwich. I LOVE how they ask how you want your eggs done, and they do an over medium perfectly!! Price is a bit expensive, but you get what you paid for. Staff is really nice as well. Seating outside to enjoy your sandwich in the sun.
google avatar

Coty R.

Yelp
I went here twice during three days in Boston. The Verde sandwich is A+. The rapini, lemon, and garlic really work. I added an egg.
google avatar

Eddy K.

Yelp
One of the best grab-and-go sandwiches in Boston. The Sunny Girl is absolutely to die for
google avatar

John M.

Yelp
Best breakfast sandwich I have had in YEARS. Homemade English muffin was incredible on the lox breakfast sandwich. Unique flavors, worth the price. Will 100% be back to try more. Give this place a shot if your in the area, you won't regret

J M.

Yelp
The best egg sandwiches!! Efficient, friendly service. Clean, desirable location. That's all you need to know.

Olga S.

Yelp
Sandwiches are amazing! The staff is great. Very efficient, wait time isn't bad considering it's non stop in there.

Zayd K.

Yelp
Unreal, hands down the best breakfast sandwich in Boston since the closing of Seabiscuit in eastie. Got the breakfast grilled cheese and it exceeded all my expectations
google avatar

Kadie S.

Yelp
Service was quick and cashier was friendly. Food was delicious - Sunny girl Sandy and avocado toast. The tables outside were perfect for a quick stop in the busy morning with our dog in tow.
google avatar

Katie O.

Yelp
I have been waiting to try this place and let me say it was worth the wait. I had the Artie's Party breakfast sandwich. It was amazing! Crispy mortadella, pistachio cream, fennel citrus with an over easy egg on a homemade English muffin. I had the pleasure of enjoying this beautifully crafted sandwich while I overlooked the harbor on Lewis Wharf. I will definitely be back!
google avatar

Justin S.

Yelp
Got a BLT and a bacon egg and cheese sandwich. Both were impressive sandwiches and I would order both again. It might be a good idea to order online it took a while to get the food. To be fair it was ~11am on a Saturday and busy. Over all a good experience and would recommend to a friend.
google avatar

Justin M.

Yelp
Food was amazing (sunny girl and a lox sandwich) Food came out very quick considering how long the line was. Would absolutely recommend
google avatar

AJ J.

Yelp
Probably the best breakfast sandwich I've ever had. I was skeptical of the English muffin but the muffin is actually what makes it so good. Super soft and not dry at all. My previous favorite breakfast sandwich was The Fancy from Mike & Patty's (same owner) but this is even better.
google avatar

Heather L.

Yelp
10/10 recommend! The location is very accessible by the water in the north end, and perfect for a quick bite for breakfast. We walked in and it was a super cute and clean place with orchids on the high top tables. There were lots of option on the menu, and the cashier person was super helpful and kind. The sandwich came out super quickly (less than 5 minutes) but was fresh made and still warm. Even though there weren't a lot of seating my friend and I were able to sit while we waited for our food.
google avatar

Lisa P.

Yelp
Delicious but messy sandwiches. Cute spot and quick service and welcoming atmosphere.
google avatar

Mila V.

Yelp
I went for the first time today and it was, hands down, one of the best breakfast sandwiches I've ever had. I had the grilled cheese breakfast sandwich, which was PERFECT. Coffee was great! The guy working there was super nice and seemed to remember regulars orders as they came in. There's a few outdoor seating tables outside. Will definitely be back!!

Mel K.

Yelp
Small shop, got busy very quickly. May save yourself time waiting by ordering ahead. Not many indoor seats, but more tables available outside if the weather is nice. Coffee was delicious, appreciate the simple syrup available for cold brew instead of grainy sugar. Fresh bread and English muffins are to die for. Delicious combinations and sauces. One of the best meals I had in Boston!
google avatar

Chris G.

Yelp
Ate here every single morning when we visited Boston. Absolutely wonderful!!! They were incredibly fast and had my order ready to go each morning.
google avatar

Matt D.

Yelp
In my opinion this is without a doubt the best breakfast sandwich spot in the North End! I got the "Sunny Girl" sandwich which came with egg, crisp bacon, their sunny sauce, smashed avocado, cheddar cheese, all on their homemade English muffins. Really, an incredible sandwich if I do say so myself. We also got iced coffees which were good! Really excited to come back here in future visits and try the other options.
google avatar

Travis S.

Yelp
Hot, delicious and oh, so flavorful. A gem in the north end. Artie Party is a must have. Pre-'98 Italian is fire too.

Rebecca M.

Yelp
I got a bacon egg and cheese with sunny sauce. The English muffin, egg and sauce were all delicious. I got the egg over medium and it was cooked perfectly. The bacon was thick and not cooked crispy so I ended up pulling most of it off because it was too chewy. I would come back but order sausage instead.

Jon H.

Yelp
This place is amazing. It will be busy, but worth it. You can order ahead & eat outside. The English muffins are just fantastic. Probably the best breakfast we've ever had in Boston.

David U.

Yelp
A top tier BLT, that hits every time! They never skimp out on the bacon, there's always perfect amount of fresh AF tomato and lettuce. The sunny girl sauce put its all together for a wonderful flavor that I'm struggling to find the words for. It's simple but comfortingly consistent every time! Highly recommend this corner spot!
