"Sunny’s in East Austin is more like a giant patio with an attached bar than the other way around, which makes it an especially great spot during the few months of the year when it's pleasant outside. There's usually a rotating food truck parked on site to ensure you never have to drink your draft ranch water unaccompanied. photo credit: Richard Casteel" - Nicolai McCrary
"This fun East Side bar is capitalizing on its name by becoming Paddy's Pub, the hangout from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. There are photo booths and a themed menu with seven cocktails (like Frank's Trash Can Marg and Rum Ham Punch), a few shots, and a little illustration of Danny DeVito's face. If you get hungry, R&B's Steak and Fries is parked here for the month." - nicolai mccrary, matthew jacobs
"A vegan food trailer with a nice patio and full bar where the double-battered, twice-fried plant-based ‘chicken’ sandwich on a vegan brioche bun (with pickles and aioli) delivers the crunchy, slightly spicy satisfaction of a classic fried chicken sandwich without greasiness, making it a memorable must-try." - Eater Staff
"The East Austin bar Sunny’s Backyard (3526 East 7th Street in Govalle) opened as a vegan bar in March 2021 but nixed the vegan focus in February as a way of staying financially viable, and it currently hosts operations like the El Borracho Tacos truck." - Nadia Chaudhury
"An East Austin vegan bar closed its namesake food truck at 3526 East Seventh Street on Sunday, February 11 after years of financial losses; the truck had served vegan comfort foods like fried chicken–style sandwiches and wings. Co-owners shuttered the truck to avoid dragging the bar and live-music venue down, and to make up for the lost kitchen the bar will host rotating food pop-ups through SXSW that include both non-vegan and vegan dishes. The decision to add meat options was intentional to broaden the bar’s customer base, but vendors will be required to offer at least one vegan item and the bar’s cocktails, wines, and beers will remain vegan. The business began as a vegan food truck in March 2021 and expanded into the bar space in May of that year; the owners previously worked at a Los Angeles vegan bar." - Nadia Chaudhury
