"Before H Mart came to the East Village, there was Sunrise Mart - a second-floor Japanese grocery store on Stuyvesant Street where you can get cookies from Hokkaido, uni, matcha powder, and eight different Kit Kats flavors. We love to walk here and pick up everything from wasabi sesame crackers to a couple of reheatable shumai. If you’re looking for really great Japanese ingredients, this is where you can find them." - Hannah Albertine

Made the best sushi and sashimi hand rolls from the items purchased from here. Surf clam + uni (sea urchin) + salmon + negi toro + masago + rice + seaweed.

love to shop here. you'll find all kinds of Japanese groceries here but also prepared sushi fish and fresh packed snacks. So cool when the elevator is broke and you have to got through the kitchen of the sushi restaurant to get in the shop. staff is very nice and helpful too!

Nice Japanese grocery store, not nearly as cramped as the location up by Grand Central. They have some nifty housewares, including tea wares and some Japanese chef's knives, but are a bit lacking in produce and spice offerings. I could only find whole garlic, but no garlic powder, for example. Then again, garlic isn't really a big thing in Japanese food, so that could be on me. They also have plenty of Japanese specialty foods and candies if that's what you're looking for, and a decent number of Japanese beer varieties beyond the usual Asahi and Sapporo.
