"Sunset Club debuted last Friday and is serving ceviche, burgers, tacos, and more. The restaurant features a huge outdoor dining section with fire pits, as well as a four-season indoor dining room and bar. Located at the foot of Plum Island’s residential section, directly across the street from the northern stretches of the Great Marsh. The menu features a mix of seafood dishes inspired by cuisines from across the globe, including poke, fish tacos, ceviche, oysters, cod cakes, and shrimp Louie. For non-seafood eaters, there’s a smashed patty burger, a Cuban sandwich, veggie tacos, duck empanadas, and more. The bar menu features frosé, frozen margaritas, beach-inspired cocktails, canned beer, and a small selection of wine. The restaurant can accommodate 164 diners and operates primarily as an outdoor space." - Terrence Doyle

The atmosphere is fantastic—great vibes, stylish decor, and an unbeatable view, especially at sunset. It’s a perfect spot to unwind with friends or enjoy a laid-back evening. The food was decent, not exceptional, but enjoyable. That said, prices felt a bit steep for what you get. You’re mostly paying for the location and ambiance—but that part truly delivers.

Google
Amazing location for Sunset and drinks. Lots of groups of families and friends. Better for drinks than food as the food is mediocre at best. The fish tacos are decent portion, however it’s more batter than fish. Shrimp cocktail has a tasty sauce but it was a bit watered down.

Great place for drinks & sunset. Food is not great, we tried the fish tacos and cocktail shrimp. Will keep it simple and get a burger next time! Friendly service, lively bar, fire pit, plenty of tables and parking, overall good spot.

Being from the area I rarely visit places in my own backyard; as many people do, one tends to veer a bit farther away. However, on a beautiful late August evening, I decided to stop by and sauntered in to this very family friendly and unique outdoor place. Noticing other reviews, there is a chorus about the basic nature of the menu. The menu is simple and basic, but nonetheless very appetizing. It is not the culinary mecca, but rather a place to enjoy the fresh salty air, with a vibe of levity, great views and open air dining. The service is outstanding and my server Erin, was ever so friendly and joyous. I started out with the Patatas Bravas, which is a fancy way of saying Tater tots. They were very flavorful with a tasty mix of sautéed onions and roasted peppers. Being summer and in NE, I could not resist having the quintessential Lobster roll. It was very hearty and mouth watering, with a very decent amount of Lobster and not overly dripping in sauce. It was a good complement to the mundane but delicious taters. It comes with a side of chips. If you are visiting the area, or local, this is a great venue to enjoy a relaxing meal. There is a fire pit to warm up with friends and family, while taking in the refreshing salty ocean air and potentially gazing at an amazing sunset as the evening of merriment wears on.

Delicious! I enjoyed a bibimbap sandwich for lunch which was superb. The seasoned fries were also quite yummy. Beautiful location, great atmosphere and great food makes this a must return place. Beer selection is weak BUT everything else was great!

Google
One of the best outdoor ambience with amazing sunset view, overall the experience was good but food options are very less and tbh not a great food. But they have beers and cocktails, you can go and enjoy outdoor sitting, they have bonfire and nice atmosphere.

Incredible spot for a good weather day. The food was fantastic! I highly recommend the blackened tuna. Good music, great drink selection, and an ambiance that can't be beat.

Stopped here with my husband for our first time and we had a nice experience. Good food and atmosphere for sure! I got a greek meatball type of plate for something different and really enjoyed it. I didn't take many pictures but I'll be back in August and will add to this post then because this place is so cute! There's a boat you can sit in and a lot of cute graphite art everywhere. Came back here in August with my friends for sunset time, got drinks and I had the smash burger and it was delicious! Beautiful view of the sun going down over the marsh, and a really nice fire pit to sit or stand around.

Yelp
The food was really good. The drinks were plentiful but you go for the ambiance and the fun!! Any time in PI is fun but this place kicks it up a notch. I haven't been in the busy summer months but a sunny early spring day it was like being in a friends livingroom! Enjoy!

Yelp
Port-o-potties Drinks in plastic cups Smash burger came with salsa and also crumpled up chips "for texture" (explained the waiter) Someone had a vision for this place, but the focus was not on the actual food or drinks, which were flavorless, and had weird combinations of ingredients. It was also too expensive, but I guess everywhere is nowadays.

Yelp
Go-to summer-time spot. Food and drinks always delicious. Views can't be beat. Be sure to also check out their sister restaurant in Newburyport, the Paddle Inn.

Yelp
Good for drinks! We stopped by Sunset Club on a Tuesday afternoon and found it almost completely empty. There were people sitting inside, but we were the only ones outdoors, so we chose to sit at the adirondack chairs by the fire pit. I ordered the Miss Shipwreck cocktail and my friend got the Red Shorts - both tasty and refreshing. Our server was also very sweet and friendly. However, we didn't stay long - this place is probably more fun at a busier time!

Kristen B.

Yelp
Had dinner for the first time here with a friend and was really pleased with the service and food. The weather was perfect and we were seated right away on Saturday night after getting there around 8pm. Our waitress gave us advice on what to order and everything was fresh and presented in a creative way. My friend, who had been there a few times, shared the 3 orders with me. I'm pescatarian, but there are plenty of options for something everyone would enjoy. Beachy island vibe with fun music playing and attentive staff. Big boat you can call ahead and reserve for a larger party. Would definitely go again.

Daniel C.

Yelp
Not a great experience, hoping we caught them on an off day. We came around 1 pm, it was hot and already pretty crowded with the lunch crowd. A band was tuning up and started playing reggae and rock covers. A nice vibe, but they were just very disorganized and the food wasn't good. My sweet tea had two dead bees in the ice which was pretty yucky. My wife's corona came without the lime. The fish tacos had decent salsa but the fried battered fish was so flavorless it felt like we were choking it down. We tried ordering the street corn but were told they were "out of corn" an hour after opening for the day, in August when New England corn is everywhere. Had to flag down help to get silverware after our food was served. It was just that kind of day. Seems like a nice place to go if you just want to get a drink and watch the sunset--recommend not coming if you're hungry.

Yelp
We were staying just next door to the Sunset Club and decided to check it out ...I got the grilled swordfish skewers and my wife got the lobster roll ..outstanding !! We went back and both got a lobster roll the next night. Very cool beach bar atmosphere Check it out if you are at Newbury Beach !

Nicole B.

Yelp
Beautiful spot great views, fun friendly vibe. A bit pricey at $40 per lobster roll but what they lack in quantity or value they make up for in ambiance. Enjoyed the coconut margarita

Elayne L.

Yelp
We got there at about 4:30 on a Sunday and the bar was full. We ordered a white wine and a beer and shared the Brussels sprouts. They were delicious! Service was great. The music was so loaded that we were practically yelling at each other. I'm sure sitting outside would be awesome. Tiny menu but fun spot.

Yelp
I've been waiting for this to open and it did not disappoint. The vibe was cool and the staff were great. The bartenders were very helpful and even though they were extremely busy, they still made time to check in. The food was tasty but for the price, the portions were small. I had the duck empanadas, street corn and fish tacos. The empanada filling didn't fill out the entire empanada and the fish tacos (2 per order), had a "fish stick" size of fish in each tortilla. The tortillas were large which only made the fish seem even smaller! At $18, I would have expected a little more. The street corn was tasty and had a great kick to it! Bottom line: I'll definitely go back but won't go there hungry!

Yelp
Nice concept, but poor execution all around We had high hopes for this venue. We pulled in and found a packed parking lot and the outdoor restaurant looked like it would be lots of fun. Many different styles of seating to choose from, cornhole, firepits, etc... And of course, a view of the sun about to set looking west. Looked like we were in for a good time at a beach bar. Unfortunately all down hill from there. It took some time for our waiter to arrive, but the place was hopping and almost everybody is short staffed. We placed our drink order and cocktails finally arrived. They were tasty, but frankly they were weak and the cups were largely ice. We were very specific about our order, and chose the empanadas from the "To Start" portion of the menu, and said we would have those to start, and then for our dinner, we would have the Fish tacos and Vieja bowl, listed in the "Mains" portion of the menu. I was surprised that a runner quickly appeared minutes later with all of our food, dropped everything and rushed off. Clearly, our waiter fired the entire order at once. I'm always bothered by this because you have to choose to enjoy your appetizer and let your meal get cold, or eat your dinner and let your app get cold. Our waiter walked by a few times, seemed to notice but did not stop to check, and I finally made it a point to get his attention. I explained that I did not expect appetizers and entrees to be served at the same time. He then said "We do not course meals here". OK, well it would have been nice if that was mentioned when I ordered, and I would have coursed my own meal. Secondly if the restaurant will not course your food, then that should be explained on the menu and it should not be divided into sections labeled "To start", when that is not how the food will be served. We were then ignored for the rest of our dinner. Our server brought the check and said he removed the appetizer from the menu, a nice gesture but I rather pay for my meal and have proper service. I can't comment on the empanadas, as I did not eat them and chose to eat my dinner instead. The Rioja bowl was bland with a moderate amount of meat and I can't be sure, but the rice seemed to be instant/converted rice, not real rice. The fish taco had a nice crisp coating, but was a very small portion. Overall very underwhelming food. I get the whole pandemic thing, but it is becoming an overused excuse for bad service and poor management. Although a fun looking venue, unfortunately I can't recommend. If you do go, I recommend sticking with a bottled beer, skip the food, enjoy the view and then go to a restaurant that knows how to serve food properly.

Yelp
Service was a ten! Excellent drinks and we loved the street corn! Highly recommend it! Beautiful sunset while relaxing with a great beverage!

Meg C.

Yelp
Great Pina colada, I like that it's not blended. Apps are good, sometimes hit or miss. Friendly service and a really cool space. Recently split the chowder with my bf and they automatically gave us two bowls without us asking, which was nice. Spectacular views of the marshland around Plum Island and near Parker Wildlife Refuge.

J. B.

Yelp
Stellar spot w/ incredible views and an overall fun time. It seems so far that the complaints are all about the weather and have nothing to do with the establishment. The frozen margarita was shockingly tasty. Usually, I feel like the pre-made type cocktails can get watery and typically aren't flavorful nor strong, but that was the exact opposite here. The food was also quite good and fitting for the space: a nicely seasoned and well-cooked piece of fish in the tacos, a simply but properly executed elote, and some darn good wings. Its family-friendly too, so bring the kids, but don't expect to park on site, as the lot is always packed up.

Yelp
Good food, amazing location and my waitress was very nice too! Will come here again!

Yelp
Trina was the bestttt servo!!! 10/10 recommend her Customer service was amazing I definitely recommend her any day

Jenna M.

Yelp
Magical experience here on the day of the epic snow storm. I'm best friend having just moved to the area, I decided to come stay with her and experience the snow storm together on plum island. This place was open for business and what a fun bonding experience it was for the whole community! This place was hopping with good cheer, the staff was super friendly, and overall we had a great time. Highly recommend checking this place out, looking forward to enjoying the Saunders here during the summer!

Joe D.

Yelp
First time here. First off, staff is great. Friendly, attentive, and all so hip. We had the conch fritters*, street corn and wings. All the food came out quick, priced perfectly so your not afraid to break the bank if your still hungry for more. Drinks are made perfectly-- even if you order off the menu. The vibe of the whole place is definitely beach perfect. Cool, laid back and chill. Must go if you want to make new friends and hang.

Karla M.

Yelp
I'm a big fan of Trina's in Somerville so I decided to check out the Sunset Club. After a quick ride to the North shore we found a cool restaurant with a beach feel, fire pit and amazing sunset. The drinks were excellent and the food was "the right amount of" unique. The Sunset team was really friendly, especially Trina, Jen and Cindy. It's amazing when an evening out feels like a vacation :-)

Kristine W.

Yelp
What a great place!!! We spent a delightful afternoon having drinks and snacks. So chill and relaxing. This Is great for people with kids since they have all kinds of fun stuff like a giant Jenga set, cornhole, and bocce. Also lots of fun for competitive adults. The setting is delightful! Like the name says, great place to watch the sunset. All kinds of comfortable seating options, some of which around fire pits. I highly recommend trying out Sunset Club! The staff was super friendly, the snacks yummy, cold drinks and beautiful views. What more could you ask for?

Sonya Y.

Yelp
Nice vibe, lots of outdoor seating and friendly staff. There are 'lawn' games on sand (Jenga, corn hole, Bacchi) Parking lot fills up fast - maybe first week excitement! Limited menu but my friends loved the frose (frozen rose wine with strawberry simple syrup), Caesar w/shrimp and Louie salads. Fish tacos thumbs up, but sushi rice in the tuna poke bowl was too dry/hard.

Dave H.

Yelp
Let's get the main thing out of the way - people come here for the sunset views and outdoor space. Both things are done well, and if you want to watch the sun set over the horizon, you can't beat it. This is more of 2 1/2 stars review, but I rounded up for the friendly staffers and everyone seeming to try their best. But everything else needs a little help. Let's start with drinks. We arrived in the afternoon on a Sunday and the place was about half full, mostly with people finishing up a late lunch. After we put our drinks order in, it took about 15 minutes to get them. Two drinks. Not a good start. Drink choices are extremely limited. No taps, so all beer is from a can. One brand of wine. And a bunch of mixed drinks that came heavy on the ice (plastic cups filled to the top with ice), light on the actual drink. This, too, on a day where the temperature was struggling to rise over 50 degrees (so really, I don't need that much ice!). Food comes faster than the bar, unbelievably. Apps came quick, as did our mains. But everything food-wise was uninspired. I had the burger, but it was literally two patties of meat on a bun with some jalapeños thrown and crushed corn chips on top. Supposed to be pickled jalapeño and salsa on it too, don't know where that went. It tasted mostly like someone just made some quick burgers and served them dry on a bun. Honestly disappointed by the burger, which is so easy to make and make well. Dinner-mates were equally unimpressed. Cubano was bland and nothing like a real Cubano (one of us lived in Miami, so we know). The enchilada was a highlight, had good flavors, and had us all wishing the rest of the food could be as good. If the Club wants to stay open to Thanksgiving, investing in more than the 3 propane heaters and the single fire pit might be helpful. Given that they have about two dozen outdoor tables. So much potential! I get it, restaurants that offer views usually don't have the drinks or food to match them. Sadly, this is the case with the Sunset Club so far.

Julie A.

Yelp
What a great location with great views, fun vibe and awesome food! Waited a while to get our food (they've only been open a couple of weeks, still working out the kinks), but totally worth the wait! Party of 6, everyone was very happy with their food, even the 13 year olds! Had the ceviche, poke bowl, chorizo , duck empanadas, burgers , and fish tacos. Everything was on point! I am a very good cook, and have high expectations, and they met them! Trina was our waitress and was sweet and apologetic and honest about the wait. The hostess was funny and remembered me by name several times, even while we dined. Fun night, would definitely go back, happy diners, thank you!

T M.

Yelp
Awesome Vibe Best sunset on the island!! Give this place a try one of my Favorites Plenty of seating cornhole

Caroline E.

Yelp
It took me a year to get here but it was worth the wait! Perfect vibes for a Sunday afternoon with the fam. The outdoor space is awesome- the fire pit, jenga and corn hole boards and a fortuitous showing of Jaws made my 10 and 7 year old's day. Food and drinks were delicious- the pink shorts and the tuna poke bowl were perfect after a day at the beach. Hubby had the wings and fish tacos. Both were excellent. Staff was super friendly and on point. I wish there were more places like this closer to Boston! Will absolutely be back again.

Alex K.

Yelp
It's really 3.5 but as I was writing I convinced myself it was a round down to 3 instead of up to 4. We went with another family. The wait was fine and great atmosphere. Unfortunately the food and staff didn't quite live up except the for the bar/drinks. Their website boasted a gluten free menu but one fryer was down so it was very limited. Their kids menu is limited and the said they would do a chicken taco. It was not good, it was also $18 for 2 chicken tacos which is insane ($36 for the "two orders"). They have a burger on the menu. I don't understand why they couldn't make a regular beef taco. You're paying for the sunset view and the ambiance. Better for drinks and apps I would assume as opposed to a good dinner.

Liz T.

Yelp
There is so much potential here but seating guest in the direct sun on the hottest day of the year ruins the experience. If your guests are seated in the direct sun it also helps to keep the drinks flowing so they don't lose their minds. Also the menu is on the aggressive and eclectic side which didn't tip the scales in their favor on such a hot day. Stick to cooler days and sunset to make the most of this spot.

Chelsea F.

Yelp
Just visited the first time for brunch. The menu was small, but unique and full of flavor. Cocktails were tasty and well made. Service was attentive and friendly. We'll be back soon!

Laura W.

Yelp
Seriously the best place around! Nice view, cute setup, amazing drinks. The chef, Michael absolutely kills it with the food too :) 10/10

Mrs. A.

Yelp
Great vibe-fun place and delicious drinks. Street food options are perfectly sized. The corn has hot Cheetos on it I think. Man I love hot Cheetos. Had the margarita with grenadine it was perfect. Friendly attentive service and beautiful sunset views. They really got this right. People with young children need to watch their kids and not treat the restaurant like a playground. Lots of games and just a great vibe. You gotta go here. Just what the island needed and they are open year round!

Tom B.

Yelp
I've been here 3 times and broken down the reviews from highest to lowest. 4 stars for the Atmosphere. The views, the set up is awesome and it has a Very cool vibe. Love it. The lowest score is food and the menu. Super disappointed since I had high expectations on the paddle inn crew and their menu,, which I loved. The issue is there is very little variety and everything is bland and full of salt. I tried the fish tacos figuring that's a good start. End result: zero taste, no flavor..just a flour tortilla and onions. Next I tried the tostada. Not much too it (again very bland) and I think they added a lb of salt on the short rib, making it inedible. Rating: 1 star. The 2nd time I came here, I had the empanadas, which was okay. I then tried the burger, which was their only saving Grace. The burger is very good. Rating: 2.5 stars. Alcohol: pretty expensive for a plastic cup of wine and the dark and stormys are more stormy, than dark. Rating: 2 stars. Net net, tourist trap at the moment. I really hope they change their menu, so I can go again. If you want food nearby go to the plum island grille and to the beachcomba since their food blows them away....by a massive margin.

Thomas M.

Yelp
While this is my first review, I was disappointed by the drink prices and quantity at the Sunset. I paid 13 dollars for cottage colada and my whole (small to begin) cup was filled with ice. I spoke with the waiter and while he was nice, he did nothing to solve problem.

C S.

Yelp
Pros- great view, service, games, and drinks Con- the food :( the apps were fine - chips&salsa, street corn, and the tostones, the fish tacos and shrimp louie salad though...no flavor, the fish in the taco was a tiny little piece, the salad had 1 egg and 4 pieces of shrimp and the rest was all lettuce and dressing, it didn't taste like anything was seasoned and for $18 please season the food.   If I do go back it won't be for the food.

James G.

Yelp
Not sure why anyone with any taste would ever give this place a 5 star review unless they were already drunk from hanging at the beach. After looking at the menu, if you want to call it that, I decided on a Cesar salad with chicken. 19 dollars layer I got a 3 x 5 tray with some romaine and cheese and 4 small strips of chicken. Thankfully the chicken was done perfect but the salad was pathetic. Ordered a corona with a lime. Got a can of beer with a lime stuck in the open can. Come on, really. The Cubana that my wife got was good but they finished it with a bag of chips. Really, for 15 bucks. One and done.

M W.

Yelp
What l like most about Sunset Club is the layout. It's awesome. They did not forget a thing. All their extras are working out (games, boat seats, extra tiny bar) So apparent the amount of planning that went into this place. The parking flow is right, signage is right, vibe is right. I can't say enough about the drinks. That Spite House is a wonderful thing.

Lesleyjordan H.

Yelp
I ordered the tofu salad- they ran out of tofu so I got shrimp which was good but for the price of the salad, I wouldn't order it again. A little underwhelmed maybe I Just ordered wrong!

Heather D.

Yelp
This is a tough environment for new restaurants. This place is still figuring out its rhythm, but the food is spot on! Sure, we had to wait, because who doesn't want to eat at this great location after a beautiful day at the beach? But the tuna poke bowl was worth the wait! Flavor profile was perfection! Luscious raw tuna, perfect cooked rice, hint of sesame and Wasabi, scallions....just YUM!! Also, get the empanada app, you won't be disappointed! Bonus: wonderful wait staff and hostess. Service with a smile despite crowds and grumpy customers. Please support this locally owned business!

J S.

Yelp
My husband and I have passed by Sunset Club several times, and today we decided to stop. It's a very cute, beachy restaurant. We ordered the smoked fish and crab dip to start. The dip was delicious..easily the best seafood dip I've had. It was the perfect amount for 2 people to share, although they really should serve it with more of the toast crackers. There were around 9, but there needed to be 12. We ended up eating the remainder of the dip with our forks. My husband got the Cuban sandwich, and it was delicious. They did a wonderful job of making the bread very crispy, and the pork was tasty. I had the Fish Tacos. The serving of fish was generous, and it was battered in a very light, crispy batter. The pineapple salsa was amazing. The menu said the tacos come with chipotle slaw, but it was on the tacos. I would've liked a side dish with the tacos. Even a ramekin of black beans or something would be good. My son had a grilled cheese sandwich, and it was crispy, and had a good amount of cheese on it. Overall, we were very pleased, and will go back.

linda w.

Yelp
We went there for the first time recently for a drink and dinner. It was a cold evening so we stayed inside. The staff was friendly and service fine, however the drinks and food were pedestrian. The interior atmosphere is very cute, but the outdoor venue seems to be the best. Seems like this is much more of a fun place to visit in the Summer and go for the atmosphere not the food or drinks.

Melissa L.

Yelp
I went there for dinner with friends and we were not there more than 5 minutes before we left because the manager was extremely rude and we were all totally shocked. This place won't be in business long with managers like that. Very disappointed they would hire someone who could be so crass to their patrons.

Jake S.

Yelp
This place has a lot of potential, however the entire area is terrorized by little children running around while their parents drink. So much for a "lounge" and "restaurant" vibe, seems a lot more like a daycare where careless parents go to drink and forget their kids exist while they rip props out of the ground. Could have way more seating with a better layout, and higher control on parents and children. Set up a booking system for tables & servers, and more games. This place won't last long if they are unable to figure out a target audience, and appeal directly towards them. Such a strange scene from literal babies, young adults, parents and grandparents. 18+ would make this spot 10x better and potentially a 5 star review, though drinks and food were quite expensive. Nothing about this place screams family outing, but it's been taken over by irresponsible parents and will ruin the longevity of this cool spot. Would go again by bring 20-30 friends to take over, otherwise not much fun in small groups.
