Yelp
SRBC is a large brewery-restaurant in an unexpected spot: the Sunset district of S.F. I visited recently with a group of hiking friends on a Saturday after scaling nearby Grandview Park, Mt Sutro, Tank Hill, and Twin Peaks (in that order) before eventually looping back through Golden Gate Park. After just over 9 miles, we were hungry and thirsty, so we stopped in for a bite and a beer.
A couple of issues:
-- The beer menu needed help, at least on our visit; No west coast IPA, no stout, and no porter (my three "go-to's"). Thankfully their hazy IPA was supposed to not be overly-sweet (like most hazies) so we ordered a pitcher. It was fine. (Note: I tasted the rauchbier and it was semi-nasty - and yes, I've had good rauchbier).
-- My veggie burger was a homemade patty but was too soft and lacked good flavor/texture. Also, they charged $2 extra for avocado, but when I looked under the bun, there was less than a tablespoons worth.
-- Prices were a bit steep. $20 for a basic burger and fries, without additions.
-- Their group policy is bizarre. When I asked about bringing a larger group of hikers (15-20) for a future Saturday afternoon, I was eventually told they would charge us $30/person PER HOUR for any group of 15 people or above (Huh?!!). Pretty weird, especially since the place was only 1/4 full at that very same time of day (also a Saturday). The entire upstairs loft space was vacant, and they had more than enough staff. I don't get it.
On the plus side, my friends enjoyed their food way more than I did. (A few even raved about it). And we liked the vibe and the overall space. The staff was also friendly and efficient.
I would go back here again, but being a pescatarian, there's not much left for me to try on the menu. Plus for larger group plans, it seems I'll need to go somewhere with a less draconian policy.
