Where to Find Popsicles, Italian Ice, and More in New Orleans This Summer | Eater New Orleans

"New Orleans’s only shop dedicated to Italian ice, located at 1832 Gentilly Boulevard in the Fairgrounds, opened at this location in 2021 after earlier iterations in Old Metairie and origins in Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina. Trevail Thomas focuses on a soft, flavorful Italian ice—non-dairy, vegan, and gluten-free—that she likens to if ice cream and sno-balls had a baby; it’s served in soft scoops and avoids being overly sweet. The shop offers 31 flavors (not including sugar-free options) that can all be combined or “swirled” into endless pairings; Thomas’s favorite is piña colada and the top seller is the Sunset NOLA (strawberry-mango), while local favorites include strawberry shortcake and wedding cake (almond and cupcake). You can top your ice with sweet or sour gummy candy, caramel or chocolate syrups, or condensed milk; Sunset Slush is open Wednesday–Sunday, 1–7 p.m., and also operates a mobile store available for schools, summer camps, and private events." - Clair Lorell

Not quite what I expect from Italian Ice. The flavors were very artificial. There was a limited menu at the time, one of the flavors I had I loved but the other one neither of us where able to finish. Had I gotten just the one flavor I liked I would give it five stars. They do let you sample so make sure you like the flavor you get and don't get anything you don't try first.

very small area and but the italian ice is delicious! super smooth but can also be icy depending on what you get. no complaints though the flavor variety is very wide and you can even swirl any two flavors you want. very refreshing and will definitely return!

I never had Italian Ice before coming here, but it is now one of my favorite cold desserts. Dare I say, it beats even the classiciest of new orleanian delights - the snowball??? You're just gonna have to go and try it. The wait might be a little while, but DEFINITELY worth it. Would go again every day if I lived closer, but would also go out of my way to buy their product again. 10/10

The Coconut Sunset Slush Nola recently became my new favorite frozen treat, and for good reason. The flavor is authentic, boasting a pronounced coconut taste that is neither overly sweet nor artificial. This delightful experience likely stems from using natural coconut extract or essence, as highlighted in a study by Smith, Lee, and Patel (2015) in the Journal of Food Science. Their research indicates that natural extracts contribute to a more authentic and enjoyable coconut flavor, evident in this slush. Beyond the exquisite taste, the Sunset Slush Nola's texture is equally remarkable. It's exceptionally smooth and creamy, making each spoonful a delight. This luxurious mouthfeel is likely achieved through carefully incorporating emulsifiers, a common technique in frozen desserts, as Martinez (2018) discussed in the Journal of Texture Studies. Whatever the method, the result is a truly silky and satisfying treat. I am thrilled with my purchase and wholeheartedly recommend the Coconut Sunset Slush Nola to anyone seeking a refreshing and flavorful frozen dessert. The creators have clearly paid close attention to detail, using quality ingredients and expert techniques to craft an exceptional product. It deserves nothing less than my highest recommendation. I ordered 6 through Door Dash and they arrived frozen and delicious. It was sooooo good!!!! Texture was awesome and the flavors were phenomenal. If you're in the area you have to stop and try them out.

I really like the flavors it’s just that the presentation is really sloppy.. they throw the condense milk all over the cup causing a mess.. the customer service could be better as well..

We went to this place after seeing a tik tok about their Italian ice slushies. They’re right down the street from the fairgrounds. The atmosphere wasn’t entirely welcoming to us and parking was tough like every other good place in New Orleans but I’d go again when in the mood for delicious Italian ice slushies. Yummy!!
