Skip Champagne: Pop Bottles of California-Made Bubbles on New Year’s Eve - Eater SF

"Winemaker Faith Armstrong Foster is a busy woman: she’s a mother of four and runs two wine brands. For Onward, she specializes in single-vineyard wines that showcase the characteristics one piece of earth can give to a wine. Her pétillant naturel of malvasia bianca, an aromatic italian white grape, comes from Suisun Valley. In the glass, it’s all powdery white flowers, zesty grapefruit, and a hint of stone fruit and nutmeg. About $48 for four 375ml cans." - Maria C. Hunt

A collaborative tasting room where winemakers from micro-wineries pour their own bottles—an experience praised by regional wine publications for its authenticity and value. Great for meeting the people behind labels like Sunset Cellars and King Andrews.

Google
Very nice, relaxed, roadside wine tasting featuring a variety of vintors. Uncrowded even on a weekend, well worth a stop. Plenty of parking. Friendly, engaging service. We were very pleasantly surprised and had a wonderful time, a big thank you to our servers. And the wine was good too!

Google
Cool spot for a wine tasting. The owners really care about the wine. They have plenty of outdoor seating areas.

Google
Very good experience, and a nice lady who helped me pick a good wine.

Google
I had an amazing experience in that place, they are a welcoming community. The wine is amazing and for a good price, and the owners were also great always caring and teaching about wine. Great experience!!!

Google
The Suisun Valley Wine Co-op is one tasting room for three Suisun Valley micro-wineries: Sunset Cellars, Blacksmith, & King Andrews Vineyards. Each winemaker has a unique style so there is definitely something for everyone! In addition, each winery experiments with a number of different varietals making it a wonderful place to try something new. Last but not least, the staff are knowledgeable, approachable, and generous! Always a great time. Worth a stop whenever you’re in the Suisun Valley

Google
Brought my brother and his gf here for a decadent Sunday afternoon. Pat and the team were all super friendly and happy to share a taste of each of their LONG list of wines. I especially loved the old vine zinfandel. Great place to bring some friends, taste some great wines, and you get 15% off the already reasonable prices for such good wine when you buy 12! So we split a case =] If you only taste I believe its 10$ each, but if you buy any wine than the tasting is free! After all the wine and laughs we went another mile up the road for some delicious Mexican food truck tacos at Larry's Produce on Pat's reccomendation which were also delicious!

Google
Unique Wine Cooperative Operstion Wine Tasting shop. Unlike other places, you can taste wine from 4 other wineries under 1 roof. We went during 4th of July and tasting is 10 per person but that fee is waived if you buy a bottle, and average bottle price is $23. They range from Roses to Chardonay to Pinot to Malbec to Cab to Mixes to Sarah's. They even have Ports and Apetifs or that brandy/wine mix. Highly reccomend since they allowed you to try 14 wines sequentially freely. Restaurant next door. COVID update: outdoor seating and walk up for refills are essentially normal and convenient like any other post covid shop. Highly recommend for a full tasting and leave with a full bottle with just a 20 buck bill.

We are members at the Suisun Valley Coop. We checked in with Brenda, on this rainy January day. We had a nice day and the wine was delicious.

Yelp
Cute little spot. Came here for the first time for the wine passport weekend. It's right next to a tap room and bbq spot which is nice. Loved the tree ambiance. Only one bathroom tho. So id add another lol

Yelp
Absolutely LOVE this place! My son and his family took me here on my birthday. Love the eclectic tasting room and outdoor seating areas - lots to look at and appreciate. Wine was good! We did a flight and sampled wine grown in the Suisun Valley. Our server was professional and provided great information about each wine. I enjoyed every sip! I like the peacefulness of the Suisun Valley. It's not super touristy like Napa. Definitely check this place out!

Yelp
Had a wonderful tasting experience! The business felt open to all and more chill and relaxing kind of tasting. It was wonderful! Our wine expert was so great! (I wish I remembered her name) she was young, funny, knowledgeable and we had good chat. The tasting was a great price and I loved the deal with a bottle of wine. Super cute inside. Will be coming back!

Yelp
amazing winery tasting in Suisun area! my hubby and I we came back for the third time just looking to have great time, awesome wine tasting and the most we appreciate it is the experience and great service we get from Brenda, the expertise in wine Per sure we will come back again

Yelp
Wine was good, but service was great! I've always visited Pioneer Tap Room next door, but been curious about this winery. My gym held a family night here and I decided that this was a good opportunity to check them out. We all had a blast! Great company, good wine and fantastic customer service. The interior has a funky charm with a mixture of sofas and bar seating. Outside there were tables and fire pits. I'm looking forward to returning again soon.

Yelp
The wine is incredible, and the winemakers and service are truly outstanding in their passion and attentiveness. Truly a hidden gem.

Yelp
We were here on a Saturday in March, and it was a great experience. Brenda was AMAZING!! It's nice to have someone pouring your wine who seems happy to talk about it without talking down, who is willing to customize your tasting, who doesn't rush you, and is just super friendly in general. The Wine Co-Op is three small wineries (Sunset Cellars, Blacksmith Cellars, and King Andrews Vineyards) in one room. None of the wines are high quantity production, so if you like something, get it now! The standard tasting menu was $15 for seven wines - two white, one rose, four red. They also had another Cab opened, and we got to taste two side by side, which I always enjoy. The wines are on the light side - nothing heavy or especially robust - but they are perfect for summer days on the patio. Or lunch with the girls. The tasting room is pretty spacious and there is outdoor seating. This was a nice stop for our wine tasting day.

Yelp
We had the pleasure of coming in for a tasting hosted by Sunset Cellars. The gentlemen helping us was nothing short of amazing he was super knowledgeable, friendly, and gave us one of the best tasting experiences we've ever had. The inside is very cool and offers a chic/rustic atmosphere. Outside they have an awesome deck for members along with a large selection of wines to pick from. The value they offer for a $15 tasting is amazing, I would highly recommend their membership since not only you get to spend a few weekends with them but you get access to some delicious wines and support small business.

Yelp
This was a fun tasting room that was in a convenient location by where we were staying and the BEST part was that each tasting was free with each bottle of wine purchased. We tried a variety of different reds and whites from all over the area. Many of them were really tasty and we hadn't heard of those wineries before so it was even better that they were all in the same place! My favorite was actually a Chardonnay that was aged in a whisky barrel. So it had a unique smokey flavor that I really enjoyed. I'm definitely not a wine connoisseur but I know what I like and this co-op gave that to me and it made for a fun start to our day of exploring wine country.

Camille F.

Yelp
Love this winery. Great place to sit inside or out. Fireplace, foot spa. Bring a picnic and make a day out of it. Fah and Mio are so wonderful as well as the other winemakers. Come for a tasting, a glass or a bottle!

Jeanette R.

Yelp
Cute country winery atmosphere and nice staff. Even the guest were helpful and knowledgeable of the wines. My sisters and I loved the foot bath!

Yelp
I see there are no recent reviews for this place but lot has changed here in the past couple of years. One of the wineries (Sunset) changed owners and the new owners apparently have a different business model in mind. Previously it seemed the purpose of wine tasting here was to let the customer taste various wines so they can identify what they liked and wanted to purchase. With so many options it was always easy to select several bottles to take home. Previously, you could taste any wine you were interested in. Now, you can only taste a few pre-selected wines. If you are not a wine club member the list of wines you may taste or even purchase is even shorter. Personally, I don't care for pink wines, white wines or sweet wines which left only a couple of wines on the tasting menu that I would have considered for purchase. I get that customers can't have unlimited tastes but maybe give them more options? Maybe let the customer pick 5 tastes from a list of 10 or something? Or offer an All-Red tasting? Let them taste something they are interested in and likely to buy? Are they expecting customers to buy wines they have never tasted? I don't need to go wine tasting for that. Also, I think this place is geared too much towards club members. They are trying to make the wine club members feel special but maybe they just make non-members feel unwelcome? Anyway, I am not saying this place is bad, it still has great potential. I certainly recommend you go check it out for yourself.

Yelp
Extremely knowledgeable and friendly staff, especially Fah. Fah showed us a wide selection of reds, whites, and ciders. I appreciated his deep knowledge of the winemaking process, and also his willingness to take us on a journey through very different flavor palates! Looking forward to the next time I can make it out to Suisun. (review of my experience in November)

Yelp
Doug & Katsuko Sparks (Sunset Cellars) were great hosts today at Suisun Valley Wine Cooperative. We tasted white and red varietals from King Estates, Blacksmith and Sunset (owned by the Sparks). These wines are sourced from Suisun Valley, Napa and Carneros AVAs. Unlike Napa, you actually interact with the winemakers. Great values. Try the Sunset Old Vine Zin or Syrah - you won't be disappointed. Also, any tips go to Solano Midnight Sun Breast Cancer Foundation. Enjoy!

Sharon E.

Yelp
Wine was great! But waited too long in between next tasting. Our original server was nice but he busy doing something and the lady left at the bar didn't even acknowledge and tried to avoid eye contact with us. Quite disappointed.

Yelp
I went there today and had an excellent experience. I tried at least seven or eight different wines from three different winemakers. The staff was very friendly and accommodating I felt like I was in my backyard it was a very hot day but they had misters which made it very comfortable. I'm used to going to Napa often however I tried something new and I'm very glad I did.

Summer T.

Yelp
The customer service is fantastic! They are accommodating and so so fun!! The wine is good and there cans are sooo good!! Definitely this lil gem!

Yelp
I love Suisun Valley Wine Co-op! Everyone who works here is super friendly, and they have a wide selection of wines.

Yelp
How it took my honey and me so long to discover the Suisun Valley wine region, I'm not sure. Regardless, now we're making up for lost time. We have visited the area twice (so far) and both times were great. During our first visit we learned that while there are lots of wineries in the area, only a handful have public tastings. The others either require private appointments or don't have tasting rooms at all. With that in mind, one of your best bets is to pop into the co-op to taste a sampling from five local wineries. They have a long list of whites, reds, and dessert wines to choose from and you can take your pick for no fee. They have some fantastic wines to choose from and we have bought at least 2-3 wines both visits. Bonus: There is a resident scruffy, cute pup who, if invited, will say hello and accept some ear scratches.

Yelp
Free tasting in the land of $15 tastings (not free anymore in 2016) Four wineries represented I found The sparkling Chardonnay and the Zinfandel to be the best followed by the petite sirah Really casual atmospherecrackers at the bar
google avatar

Yelp
Totally unpretentious tiny place where you can go to try some local Suisun wines. The first thing I saw when I walked in was a dog walking around. Apparently it is the neighbor's dog and spends the whole day there. Cool! They carry wine from multiple local wineries in Suisun with the one exception being Barbera from Napa. The folks who work here seem totally laid back and chilled. However the wines were just OK IMHO and I did not find any that I liked. I did end up buying a few bottles since I felt guilty about the free wine tasting and the fact that the employees were so nice.
google avatar

Kim H.

Yelp
Hospitality Plus! Friendly staff with great service was the order of the day. She was very knowledgeable about the small local growers and the wines they produced. The complimentary samples enticed us to purchase half a case. Discounts when purchasing quantity. Support the small farmers, they work hard and long for the products that come to market. Kudos to them!

Dan S.

Yelp
What a gem! Great wines and great people. Have been several times and always enjoy it. The Cab, Barbera, and Petite Sirah by Sunset Cellars are stand outs for me but can't say I've had a bad wine. They also do some fun blends just to keep things interesting. Highly Recommend!

Yelp
ok i am not a wine expert but i have been to quite a few tasting rooms and this is still one of the best. Without a doubt in my mind it is the best in the suisun valley for the wine and the owners. i LOVE the sunset zin and you cannot have better people running the place. I have brought in groups of my friends and for alot this was their first tasting room and not one person has not walked out of that place with a smile on their face, alot more knowledge about wine and most of the time a bottle or two in their hands. All tasting is free and the list is pretty long, if you have never been and your anywhere near by you have to go period. I am most likely heading out later today and picking up a bottle of either the sunset zin or barbera actually probably both!
google avatar

Rob B.

Yelp
What a find! Great wines, generous pours, and seemingly infinite opportunities to taste for only $10 (which is waived with the purchase of a bottle). The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and heavily involved in the local industry. Bottles range from $18-40 but average in the low to mid $20s. Very reasonable. We'll be back again and again!
google avatar

Devo S.

Yelp
This is a GREAT place to go to get a GREAT sampling of the fine wines offered by the wineries of Suisun Valley. There are multiple red, white, and dessert selections (all for free, I might add, which is a total SCORE bonus), and the people working the tasting counter are wonderful... We hit this Co-op up every time we're in the area, and will continue to do so. I HIGHLY recommend this place!! Cheers :)
google avatar

Kolby V.

Yelp
An absolutely fantastic experience! This is certainly one of best wine tasting spots I've been able to visit anywhere. The man and woman who were running it the day I was there were both very helpful and knowledgeable and the wine was outstanding. The local small wineries are lucky to have such an outlet to feature their wines. Without the Co-op it wouldn't ever have occurred to me that lots of great wines are coming out of Suisun Valley!
google avatar

Maile N.

Yelp
Free wine tastings where you select a healthy number of tastings from a full list of bottles available from the local Suisun area. It is a nice way to be introduced to wines from this region and the service is knowledgeable and pleasant. Plenty of parking and a nice view of wine vines across the way.
google avatar

Yelp
Normally when writing reviews I'll briefly scan down the right side to see other reviews and kind of confirm or deny experiences I had. For the Suisun Valley Wine Cooperative, I knew pretty much everyone was on the same damn page. This place gets it. Large menu spanning multiple wineries, FREE TASTING, and a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. What else do you need? Oh yeah, there's a fairly decent BBQ truck outside (Sometimes? all the time? Need to come back to find out). Simply excellent!

Yelp
This winery had a beautiful rustic & home feel to it. We enjoyed the diversity of the wines as well as the company of the owners. You could tell they are extremely passionate about wine making. If you are looking to avoid the crazy crowds of the larger wineries, then this small & friendly winery will fit your thirst quenching needs.
google avatar

Yelp
There is no better place to taste wine than the Suisun Valley Wine Cooperative. They offer wines from five local Wineries - Sunset, Mangels, Winterhawk, Blacksmith and King Andrews. With the combination of the five different wineries you have an opportunity to try many different wines and viritles - side by side tastings - they have a wide selection of wines to select from - Whites, Reds, Desert Wines are all offered. As you taste the wine you will have an opportunity to talk about the wine making process, where the grapes are grown and have all your questions regarding wine answered from the winemakers themselves as they are most often pouring the tastings - Pat Mendez the Co-Ops manager and a very nice person offers a non biased opinion of all the tastings. She has a vast amount of wine knowledge to share with you in a very relaxed atmoshere - She will make certain you have a very enjoyable tasting experience - ask her about wine tasting on the wine train at the Rio Vista Train Museum that is just getting started. As for selection and value - the wines offered are numerous and I am certain that you will be able to find that wine you are looking for at a very affordable price which makes this visit to Co-Op one you will remember and I am certain you will visit again and again. Next time your in the Suisun Valley, Wine Tasting or on your way to Lake Barreyessa - stop by the Suisun Valley Wine Cooperative -

Yelp
We love the Suisun Valley Wine Co-op! This is our absolute favorite place to taste wine not only in Suisun Valley but pretty much anywhere in CA. Here are our reasons why: -Relaxed experience: 5 small wineries (Sunset, King Andrews, Mangels, Blacksmith & Winterhawk) share 1 rustic, quaint tasting room - each winery is "boutique" in the sense that they are relatively small operations.... but there is absolutely no pretense with the wines or the tasting experience. For us, that is the way wine tasting is supposed to be. Very low key and totally awesome!! -Suisun Valley: Most of the grapes hail from Suisun Valley and surrounding Solano County. This is still a somewhat "undiscovered" wine area in CA, kind of surprising esp. being adjacent to Napa County. We like that it is kind-of a secret but we also want people (who appreciate unpretentious tasty wine) to discover it too! -Delicious wines (probably the most important reason): There is such a wide selection of wines (probably about 30 different wines at a given time) a large number of them are available for tasting (best to have a DD!) We have a few favorites, which we are selfishly not revealing ;) -Personable: We've been there now quite a few times and have gotten to know just about everyone involved in the wine making of the 5 wineries (as each winery shares tasting room responsibilities). We like knowing where our wine comes from and to talk to the people who make it. They are a truly passionate, knowledgable and welcoming group of folks. Ask them lots of wine questions! -Overall: If you are looking for an over-the-top wine tasting experience, there are plenty of glamourous places about 14 miles northwest that will fit the bill. But if you are looking for tasty wines that offer an amazing quality-to-price ratio in a low-key environment, stop by here. I think you'll be happy.
google avatar

Lupe A.

Yelp
Bad service. If you come here, bring a dust mask and be ready for negative attitude and remarks of their own wines. Wine was not great, glasses were dusty and the host was negative and couldn't give an explanation of the wines he poured. Complete waste of time and money.
google avatar

Kory R.

Yelp
We finally made the trip to the Co-op after seeing it every time we'd go to Larry's Produce! It's a cute little tasting room which pours for 5 local Suisun Valley wineries. When we went it it wasn't super crowded and the woman who helped us was one of the winery workers and she was very knowledgable on all the wines from all the wineries, not just hers which was nice. Since the tasting is free we felt obligated to buy a bottle or two which was no problem since we already enjoy Winterhawk and we even found a new favorite with Blacksmith Cellars! Great place but limited hours Thurs-Sun 12p-5p..

Nancy L.

Yelp
Friendly energy with local winery representatives. Affordable wines....you are likely to find one or two you really like...today we bought 2 bottles. However, 3 months ago my favorite winery from Suisun Valley, Mangels Vineyards, left the Co-op tasting room opened up their own tasting room within walking distance of this Co-op...just north on the same Suisun Valley Rd. We didn't even have to move our care to visit Mangels. We bought 6 bottles today from Mangels, and they were pouring at least 12 different wines, including rare varietals. Over the past few years, the majority of the wines we were purchasing at the Co-op were Mangels wines. Now, we will just go to Mangels tasting room directly! Mangels also has a nice large shady outside patio and lawn area with big trees...so I will stay even longer next time.
google avatar

S J.

Yelp
This tasting room currently features the wine of 2 wineries, with 4 more to join in the near future (as soon as ATF, i think he said, sends their approval). the sunset winery and twilight ridge (same winery, actually) have great wines. the owner/wine maker/everything else of that winery was staffing the cooperative's tasting counter when we were there. he's sooo friendly and fun to chat with. and i have so much respect for a guy (and his wife) who can create such delicious wines on his own. well, their red wines were great. i didn't love their pinot gris. oh, and the tasting is free! honestly, i never knew that suisun valley had so many wineries!!!
google avatar

Rachel S.

Yelp
Yes, it's free and the service was friendly - however, the wine they were pouring had been opened too long (3+ days). We did not taste anything we wanted to buy. We try to buy at least one bottle from everywhere we visit, just to be courteous, we just couldn't bring ourselves to take any of these home. There were also two large groups, both drunk, only there for the free wine. Felt a little frat party-ish.
google avatar

Roxanne H.

Yelp
Cute friendly little place with FREE tastings!! The winemakers from local wineries usually volunteer to pour at this venue which makes for really knowledgeable chit chat! Will definitely be back! This place lost a star because the owners keep their cat in the venue which had the whole place smelling like cat which was awful for my allergies!! Another lady near me was experiencing the same thing and actually had to leave because of all the cat dander in the air. Yuck!
google avatar

Rachel C.

Yelp
Everyone is extremely helpful and nice. This is a great place to find out what's in the neighborhood and learn about all beautiful wineries near by.
google avatar

Marty S.

Yelp
Decide to taste here while in town. Very dark tasting room. Friendly staff, Many small producers. Some interesting wines.
google avatar

Kyle D.

Yelp
These folks were the NICEST people with the best wines around! They also gave us an restaurant recommendation based on our tastes! The winemaker spoke with us (Doug), while Pat poured. We would definitely come back!
google avatar

Lawrence N.

Yelp
One of the best places in the valley to try wines. The ones working the counter are local wine makers. Very knowledgeable about about variety of wines in the area. Price is great - Free!!

Keith P.

Yelp
This is CA wine of 40 years ago: -You know it will win awards...but hasn't gone to their heads yet. -Engaging, really truly friendly wine people who love what they do and want to share it. -Basically completely undiscovered and unappreciated. Way better than the price for the wine, incidentally. Just staggering to run into a place like this. It is completely worth the trip, and will impress your friends. (note, distribution is starting, and some of the better restaurants are carrying a few of the wines, so this won't be a secret for long).
google avatar

Anthony P.

Yelp
What a great place! Great local wine a wonderful and friendly environment. Love it!!!!
google avatar

Anne T.

Yelp
This place is adorable! Nestled at the bottom of Rockville Hills - tasty wines, their bacon fat wine was DELICIOUS with our smoked ribs and brisket. Tasting is free, and there's a cute kitty cat that roams the grounds. We'll be back when my family comes to visit
google avatar

Amanda W.

Yelp
Had a fantastic time tasting today. Everyone was friendly and attentive. And FREE tasting on as many wines as you'd like...! Great stop not far away from Napa.
google avatar

Jason F.

Yelp
The winery staff that share this place are all nice, friendly and informative. Of course I have my favorites like Sunset vineyard, but they ALL have good wines. You wont be disappointed in the wine selection or the prices. Its worth a visit!

Rob S.

Yelp
5 wineries that have joined forces. Awesome wines with free tasting so you can find out you like what you want to buy. The guy working behind the counter actually got me to buy a wine not from his winery. The idea here is to have the people enjoy the wine. I felt bad because my 2nd and 3rd choices were from his winery (which I will definitely go back and buy later). Very friendly. No pressure. Lots of education. Free Tastings. What Napa USED to be.
google avatar

Rachel S.

Yelp
Delicious Wines, free tasting, very friendly and nice staff. We walked in 5 min before closing, but stayed for at least 30 min. Had about 8 different wines and had great conversation with the 2 elderly staff members and 1 regular. They even offered us some snacks from her back (wasabi almonds!!)
