I'm usually not a fan of "orange" flavored things, but I wanted to try a new dole whip and the Aloha Isle was super busy. I was skeptical, but many of my fellow Disney foodies and Dole Whip enthusiasts rave about the orange dole whip, so as a Disney World exclusive flavor, I went for it. The verdict? SOOOO GOOD! (Though I did have it as a float.) No regrets!
The Sunshine Tree Terrace is located in Adventureland of the Magic Kingdom right across from the Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse. Guests can place their order through either the standby line or by mobile ordering through the MyDisneyExperience app. Their menu offers various items featuring their signature flavor of the orange dole whip including floats, and traditional cups of ice cream as single flavors or swirls (other flavors they offer are vanilla, chocolate, or strawberry). The Sunshine Tree Terrace also has Pork and Vegetable Pot Stickers for a savory option.
I ordered the I Lava You Float which consisted of
- Orange Dole Whip
- Fanta Orange soda
- Strawberry and Passionfruit syrup
- Pop Rocks
This had the potential to be a diabetic's nightmare, but it actually wasn't too sweet. All of the flavors complemented each other well and is one of my favorite dole whip floats I've tried to date. Though I was impressed with the coconut dole whip over at Aloha Isle, I think this one is much better, and I usually don't like things that are "orange" flavored. I appreciated the berry-tropical taste to the float. The pop rocks were a nice touch to the float in which they gave it a little surprise with each bite/sip. I would recommend this float on your next trip if it's being offered. It also is large enough to share with another person. Definitely well-worth the price tag.
I had one gripe with my experience and it was the lack of direction for retrieving the mobile order. It is not clear where you're supposed to pick up your order once it's ready if there is a line filed around the stand (which is highly likely since this is a popular spot). To be honest, the line for the mobile order pick up and standby line were about the same...LONG. No way to really distinguish between the two. They have a small sign at the FRONT of the mobile order pickup window that only the first three people in line can see. What is supposed to be a speedy process takes much longer than needed. The Cast Members are also stretched so thin inside due the demand of the items, that when guests would ask them questions, they were so short with them to try and hurry the line along. Though the pickup experience wasn't as magical as the rest of the park, the product (float) at the end was worth it.
The Sunshine Tree Terrace will definitely be a revisit for me during my next trip to the Magic Kingdom to get my Dole Whip fix as I may like it better than the Aloha Isle down the way. Give it a try! With the hot and humid weather of Orlando, you can't go wrong with a treat from them to cool down.
NOTE: You must have a park ticket and admission into the Magic Kingdom to get something at the Sunshine Tree Terrace. There is no designated seating area for this establishment, so anticipate on traveling a little bit with your treat(s) to find a place to sit and enjoy. At the time of writing this review, there were no dining plans or AP discounts being offered.
