Google
I’ve been going to Super A Foods for years, and it’s always my go-to for groceries. It’s a family-owned market, and you can tell they care about their products. The produce is always fresh, and they have a great selection of imported goods from Latin America. The deli section is also fantastic—try their tamales if you get the chance! It's the perfect neighborhood store

Google
A very nice shopping experience in this supermarket without much fuss. They sell international products most of which are from latin america. Everything including the produce were fresh and the prices are quite satisfactory. The store is well organized and kept clean. Employees are also approachable.

Google
The reviews I’m reading cannot be real… C’mon! We decided to give this place a try, but the prices are way too high for the quality they offer. We bought fresh beef, chicken, turkey, and pork carefully checking the expiration dates. Once we got home, most of the meat packaging broke apart and spilled into the shopping bags. Even worse, when we opened the packages, much of the meat smelled spoiled, even though the dates looked fine in-store. Additionally, a significant number of the prices per pound didn’t match the actual weight of the product. Very, very bad. Do better, or hire someone who can actually get the pricing right. It feels like they’re trying to scam people by altering or mislabeling expiration dates. Unbelievable.

Overall excellent grocery store, bakery and eating place. Of the eating place, cannot say enough to let you know how much I love the food here. During non-COVID times they have tables inside. I have come here to have lunch with friends many times. Always pleased with my food. As for the in-store bakery, very good, great selection of items, not the best I've ever had, but in top 5. Grocery store is very good also. They have lots of product, prices are good. Staff working here are nice. Have even met members of the family that own this chain, they are very nice, and even eat lunch here too. Parking is very good, considering in an area where parking is often problematic. Getting here is okay, nowhere near a freeway. Parking, restrooms, entrance, aisles and checkout are all accessible. Restrooms are fine. On a personal note recommend the tacos, they are outstanding. Have brought friends here, and while they may initially question why we are coming here, they all agree that the food is quite good. Currently on the weekends they sell chicken and tri-tip that they bbq outside, and it is really good.

Google
I was searching for a place to go get bottled water, and I left with a BBQ chicken! Best $10 spent!

Google
This morning the lady at the register “scolded” me for not putting the checkout divider. Then tossed my items to the side because she was mad. Overall all the employees are nice 😊 I have nothing but good things to say about them just this lady.

Google
The York Blvd store has fire grilled whole chickens for $10 each on Saturdays. Delicious and fresh.

Google
Love the bakery there. Great value plenty of options

Yelp
This review is for the CHARCOAL GRILLED CHICKEN only. On the weekend, from 10am to 4pm (or till sold out) Super A Food sells charcoal grilled chicken that's set up outside the market. It's perfectly brined, seasoned, and grilled. Absolutely delicious! A whole chicken for $9. You pay the cashier inside the market at the register; then get in line outside and show the receipt to the staff member tending the chicken and you're good to go! Super- A has a nice selection of tasty salsas and fresh tortillas. Definitely recommend!
google avatar

Yelp
I bought pico de gallo from the salsa department and it's 85% jalapeños, 5% poorly chopped onions, 4% long strands of cilantro, and1% tomato.

Ruben-Typewriter Guy F.

Yelp
Love the outside marinade barbecue and the fried chicken The food is cooked very well and tasty! Great store to purchase other items for the home too! Will be try the house barbecue soon Great friendly staff and they play great music too shop too! Customer for life!
google avatar

Vanna M.

Yelp
Every time I walk into this store I get warm feelings of Nostalgia. From the music they play, the nice folk working there, to the design of the store. It's old school, the way a grocery store should be. They have great chicken here as well.

Yelp
Bought Al carbon pollo several times Very good every time Smoky but not over cooked Great value for $10 Good fresh tortillas and salsa in store Staff has been consistently helpful and friendly to this gringo Highly recommend

Yelp
Find was good. Service was good Butchers were very friendly friendly people working there

Yelp
I have a really weird experience here, lost and grateful. I was only looking for corn in a can, but I end up with chicken salad, burros, sweet bread, and avocados, etc. I was skeptical to come here because of traffic and how people drive around the area in a small street/road. Being first time I didn't expect much, from the security guy to Deli sections, to the kind lady at Bakery were all such hard working people I have encountered. Literally, they stopped what they are doing when I was unsure of what I was looking at , or they anticipated I needed something. Great customer service and clean feeling environment, I didn't feel followed, rushed, or overwhelmed. I took my time without being run over by carts. I was humbled at my shopping experience here. Thank you.

Yelp
I use to shop at this store often, it's been a while since I came back to this store again. Bakery is great, including the employees are nice, helpful and greed you with a smile. The groceries are ok, they have improved the quality of a lot of items. The cashiers, not sure what's going on with them, it's been 3 times I went shopping to this store, and the cashiers look so unhappy, or not sure what's the problem, but they are rude, no greeting what so ever, you just a cold feeling from them, I don't know what it is, and will not try to figure them out. You do pay a little more because they bag your groceries, but friendliness or at least being polite it's not there.
google avatar

Niko A.

Yelp
Local spot with Mexican specialty items, bakery, and butcher. I love getting their fresh pan and also bbq chicken on saturdays and sundays outside. Bakery has this cheese and jalapeño bread that is so good, bagel and jalapeño cream cheese vibe but softer and lighter bread. They also have a decent selection of Asian sauces and specialty items too.

Yelp
The carnitas that the gentleman helped me choose, or I should say he chose on Saturday September 8, 2023 were FANTASTIC!!!!!! He was an older gentleman in the deli are. Very kind, polite, and enthusiastic!!!!!!! All the salsas and cheeses, the par baked flour tortillas and even the little mini tortillas were amazing. OKAYYYYYY THE PAN DULCE!!!!!!! So dry. What happened to the egg that was added. It was as though we were eating a paper sack!!!!! The chefs are not doing well with the pan dulce!!!! Come on guys! We grew up in East LA where it was all happening, including the Concha with the Rock Sugar on top.

Yelp
Be warned I recently bought some eggs that were on sale from this market I spent time in emergency room with food poisoning I had tremendous pain unbearable this market doesn't have a night crew like Ralph's or Vons so there food stays in store to rot I've purchased tortillas the next turned moldy purchased milk rotten I'm warning everyone stay away from this market
google avatar

Yelp
Currently many stores don't have Donald Duck OJ in stock. After calling various businesses, this store had a good supply in stock. Wonderful returning to this Super A and having some DD. Efficient service too.

Maria F.

Yelp
If you haven't had a chance to try their parking lot chicken, run don't walk because they sell them until they run out. They only sell them on the weekend so stock up as they make great add ins for salads, tacos, enchiladas, etc. A friend shared this info with me, and we've been going back week after week.
google avatar

Sergio D.

Yelp
The food here especially the fruit is no good. I pay money to get shit food. This place only takes your money and sells you Crap. I have bought so much food here that when I get home and start preparing to cut open to see it's already rotten. You'll waste even more money, time, and gas to exchange. Your literally going to get the same crap. I put pictures too. I just got home from that damn place. No Good!
google avatar

Yelp
Nice clean well stocked market with some very impressive low prices. Staff was very knowledgeable & helpful.

Yelp

Yelp
RIP to my OG Super A in Alhambra that has long since been replaced by the Civic Center Library. This guy however, is much bigger and cleaner than what I remember Super A being. The potato wedges brought me back to my old love but you should get the spicy fried chicken here (warning: definitely spicier than you think). They have cheap produce including the necessities like cilantro, green onion and others. Even some Asian ingredients but can be hit or miss on other items. The peeps at the deli were nice and you can get whole onsite bbq chicken on the weekends for $8.99 - Guys, can we just say $9 flat?

Karen V.

Yelp
I'm afraid to return to this store because of the cashiers. There very intimidating, and the people in the front of the store asking for money and food when they look like they already have it. I don't appreciate it. I don't have any money for myself now.
google avatar

Cari A.

Yelp
I am giving this place a 5/5 because of their excellent customer service. I stopped by Super A Foods for the first time today, looking for meat tenderizer (the spice, not the tool). I couldn't find it in their spice center so I asked one of the cashiers if she knew if they sold meat tenderizer. She was so helpful and went to the spice aisle with me to help me look. We couldn't find it in that aisle, so she took me to the meat section, which had a separate section of spices, including some meat tenderizer! She also helped me to interpret what the bottle said since it was partly in Spanish. I wish I got her name so I could give her the credit she deserves. Pros: -Friendly and helpful staff -Great selection of spices -Great variety of items from different cultures Cons: -There is no direct stop traffic light by this market

E J.

Yelp
Cashiers and bag people when I visited one morning were incredibly annoying. They kept talking and commenting on what I was buying, and I was already late for a meeting. I literally had the cashier, and two bag people comment on what I was buying, with a third bag person just standing there. The fact that there were so many workers not doing anything should have given me a clue that I should have shopped elsewhere. Also, I should have just used the self-check out because these workers would just not STFU- they kept going back and forth with each other on my purchase and I needed to get out of there to go to a meeting. Additionally, the store seems drab and dirty i.e. OLD. The decor is OLD, the meat IS OLD and the produce looks OLD. The meat and produce are fresher and better at El Super down the street. Going here reminded me why I haven't been here in so long, and why I won't shop here anymore. Still surprised this place is in business.

Yelp
I'm glad this store is in my neighborhood. I have a bunny and he goes through 6 heads of lettuce a week (2 Romaine, 2 red leaf, 2 green leaf) in addition to kale and other vegetables. The price on their produce is great and it's fresh. When there was a recall on Romain they put up notices to let their customers know that their lettuce comes from Arizona. They also have a to section where you can get hot foods and prepared salads to go. I love their crab salad. Their fresh tortilla chips are the best! I buy them for parties and football on Sundays. There homemade fresh salsa is fabulous! There's also a bakery where you can order creative cakes, and all their pan dulce is made in-house. It's always fresh and soft. Their Conchas are the best I've ever had. They are also addicting! You can also get scoops of Thrifty Ice Cream. They have fresh flowers, and they also carry a wide variety of Stella Rosa wines. There's a good selection to fulfill all your grocery needs and the prices are better than Ralph's or Vons. What I love most about the place are the people that work here. They are all so very friendly and helpful. They remember you and treat you like family. They are also doing an excellent job of keeping things clean during Covid. Carts are washed down after each use. Staff wear masks and gloves and social distancing is enforced as well as requiring customers to wear masks as well.

Yelp
Get the chicken that is BBQed outside! Pay inside, then line up to get an overnight marinated BBQ chicken over the open flame. It's $8. If I was going to a pot luck dinner I'd bring 2! It's cut up on the spot and package either in a bag, or tray if they run out of bags. One chicken can easily feed 2 or 3 people... it's the kind of food you keep eating just because it tastes good! There is also an impressive to go food station to the left when you walk in. So if you want an easy catered meal to go there are plenty of options!

Yelp
The grilled pollo/chicken out in front, in the background, is an unexpected cheap delight. While I cannot vouch for the food items located and prepared inside the store's location, I can say, with confidence, that I'll be back on Saturday morning to purchase the perfect cookery and works of arts that are produced in between tight car parking spots. The grilled pollo is smoky, flavorful, not salty or too smokey, it's just right. The pollo is juicy, tender, and just so well cooked. I will say, to add, I've gotten back a few times and while the cookery on the pollo isn't always a 10/10, it's a 9/10 and that's superior to some restaurants in the area that charge about 25 for one pollo. Here, at Super A, buy one grilled pollo, keep it in the foil bag for a few minutes (let it steam up) and then enjoy. Good stuff.

Yelp
= RUDENESS. Since 2017 the store is going down in quality of service. The manager forgets that customers expect good service and courtesy before price. = Management: Because of an ill-mannered store manager, people who work in this store are unhappy, and therefore the work suffers. They are not as welcoming as other stores around. = Problem w Security: Also, the security seems to be looking to harassing people on the parking lot. He repeats itself, and has very poor work habits; = Manager's reaction: I reported this to the manager who displayed unprofessional and rude behavior, arguing and he taking a partial attitude. He screamed at me and argued, almost insulted me when i reported this harassing behavior. = Outcome: I will not go back shopping there because of the disrespectful ways of their treating customers. After all, we have the power to chose where we spend our money.

Patricia L.

Yelp
I am a long time customer of Super A Foods but the new method of no cashier and self check out is unacceptable. I am disabled and can't use self check out they leave me no choice. I won't be returning. Along with this they sell spoiled chicken . Its happened so many times its I won't return ever. The quality of goods is bad and now no customer service. To bad they have such nice employees.

Diane K.

Yelp
I am a regular shopper at Super A foods because I love the people who work there. They always make me feel at home & I like that. I don't think I'll ever shop anywhere else.

Yelp
My review is only about their hot food case. I usually enjoy eating at the grocery stores in predominantly Hispanic neighborhoods (let's pretend that Highland Park isn't being gentrified...but that's besides the point), because the food usually provides a variety of mouthwatering items. One week, I had a tamale and a taco. The taco was okay, but that tamale was dry AF...Got Milk? Never again! The saving grace is that this particular location makes BBQ whole chickens outside in the parking lot every weekend. As of late, I've been spending a few weekends in the area for work. I decided to stop in and give the chicken a try. I did -- and it was great! A whole char-grilled chicken that would put El Pollo Loco to shame any day. It was only about $8, and so worth it. If there's any reason to come to Super A for hot food, it's that!
google avatar

Mary E.

Yelp
I am giving four stars I am a "hipster" who just moved to highland park. I was initially concerned that they did not carry any healthy foods and I wanted to shop locally rather than driving to Whole Foods so I spoke with the manager over email to inquire if they were interested in adding some healthy and vegan items and he was able to add so many new items to the store such as organic produce, beyond meat products, gluten free bread, and a whole other bunch of things that I requested. I really appreciate the cultural and ethnic foods they serve and also the mix with hipster foods it makes for a well rounded experience. I still do wish they would carry more healthy foods because no matter who you are health is a priority but extra points for taking requests. So neighborhood people if you want healthier foods email them!!! It works.

Yelp
THANK YOU FOR MAKING ME A VERY HAPPY CUSTOMER! You truly saved my life by going out of your way to make my daughter cake in such short notes (3hr) MARCH 11, 2017 Thank you Super A Bakery Thank you chela (baker)

Yelp
***ROACH ALERT*** I went to the hot food counter to get a bean and rice burrito, as she was putting the beans and rice in, I SAW A ROACH! Scurry across the hot food counter right next to the rice. I told the lady, there's a roach right there! And she put her dish rag on top of it. It was the small german roaches. Completely grossed out. DO NOT EAT HERE!
google avatar

Jennifer N.

Yelp
I love this store, and miss the one that used to be in Eagle Rock. First off, Artists work in the bakery and will serve you a 99 cent ice cream cone too. Seriously, check out the bake case, it is beautiful. The fresh tortillas are yummy, always some ripe avocados stacked near by. The wine prices are awesome. The cashiers must think I'm sad cuz I'm buying a ton of baked goods, wine and cat food. But they're always friendly anyway.
google avatar

Dr. D.

Yelp
We've noticed the weekend chickens cooking in the parking lot, and they smelled amazing. We got one today, and the taste was equally delectable: juicy, tasty and shot through with smokey grandeur. The Super A isn't generally crowed on week days, so it's become a regular shopping spot in these pandemic times. The veggies and fruits are good, the prepared food is reasonable, and they often offer 20% off of wine too.
google avatar

Marie P.

Yelp
Wow, surprised to hear the story about the roach situation. Do not buy from this store unless you're buying more than one item. Staffs like to target customers and claim they've been stealing. This is an easy target for those who can't defend themselves such as the elderly, students, and disabled. A lady accused me and assumed I was stealing water when I put the water bottle back. I will my buy water somewhere else.
google avatar

Irene C.

Yelp
Their produce dept. is below acceptable standards. I just bought this Mango for $0.79 and 90% is rotten. They need to start throwing out the expired produce. Overall their prices are more expensive than Food 4 Less, and equal to Vons in Eagle Rock, friendly staff and great BBQ on the weekends.
google avatar

Kat T.

Yelp
I love there cooked food they have here. Service is cool. Fresh looks kinda fresh. But it's yummie. If you want some cooked Spanish food come here. If you want to shop for your daily needs this place isn't so bad. But of course it maybe a little higher than Ralph since they are competing against other name brand markets. But those places only have cooked deli and a small section of hot food. But this place oh boy has a lot to pick from. And when your done you can head to the market and shop.
google avatar

L P.

Yelp
This score is for the Mexican plates sold on the left side of store. There is an older Mexican man who makes the plates and I swear I watched him serve someone's plates with the same gloves he was sweeping the floor with and he was all in her food and pushing the rice in with those gloves and wiping his hands on a dirty white towel and touching every counter and all up in her food. Don't get me wrong the food is spectacular but danggggg he was dirty. I don't think they all serve like ol dirty man but he needs some training. Big time.
google avatar

Sandra H.

Yelp
Come here for home-cooked Mexican food! In addition to groceries, you can get prepared carne, pollo, potatoes, frijoles, rice, everything! FRESH BBQ! On the weekends, they grill in the parking lot and it smells.... SO GOOD. Very hard to resist! You can get ribs... but my favorite is to get their chicken! They also make FRESH tortilla chips! They are so crispy, salty and delicious. FRESH tortillas (corn and flour) Great spot!

Crystal R.

Yelp
Have been coming here for years, my local grocery store and carries all items I really need. People are generally friendly and nice, especially the people who have been working here years. Just beware of newer employees. If you go to the lane with a newer cashier named Mayra L. you will need to bag your own groceries. She's the only employee who will not lift a finger or ask if she can assist you. She will stare you down and continue assisting other customers even if you have lots of items and are in the way. I would just beware of checking out in her lane, unless you're a fast bagger who wants no assistance from her. Only negative experience has been with Mayra L.
google avatar

Chuck D.

Yelp
This is my go-to spot for carne asada, marinated chicken, crema mexicana (don francisco), fresh made tortillas & salsa and tortilla chips to supply any good summertime backyard barbeque. Prices are good, quality is good. What else can I ask for? They are a full-service supermarket with a good produce section. And cooked food to take home or dine in-store. Thankful for Super A... It's a great one-stop shop. Staff are real friendly... That's always a good thing.
google avatar

Vinny P.

Yelp
Ok is going to be split review . Their employees are rude specially at the food dep the women are just plainly rude . I went to buy food and usually I'm the type of person to be smiling and just being nice and this lady would not provide good customer service Valerie is her name but in the other hand the gentleman outside cutting up the chicken he just great with all people . People have to learn not to take their customers for granted because remember because of customers we have a job because of customers we can pay bills because of customers we can buy stuff for our kids . I guess I should stop trying to prove my point .
google avatar

Nikki N.

Yelp
I really enjoy shopping here! There always a fast lane opposed to down the street. Weekend BBQ is a must try if you don't want the mess they also have a full hot table inside with a dining area... I love the girl cashiers there always so sweet I feel like I have friends when I come in thanks super A

Yelp
I lived in eagle rock for approximately 20 years. I have shopped at this Super A around 15 times with mixed results. This review is solely based on my most recent visit. I wanted some pan dulce and since it was late evening and I didn't want to ride around town looking for panderias, I came here. Great parking. There were not any homeless meandering around like at vons in eagle rock. The neighborhood is a mix between lower income and hipster. The variety of sweet bread was limited but I was able to find good soft sweet bread, it wasn't stale. We were drawn to the cooked meat section/deli. We didn't wait long, the employee, Gerardo, was attentive, polite and helpful. I bought a pound of tripas and a pound of chicharrones. I love dropping by the clothing area. I always seem to find the best deals. I got a run of the mill men's zip up hoodie sweatshirt but it had fuzz/fur on the inside and the arms were insulated-$14.99! The lines were average, two people in front of me and it went smoothly. I will definitely go back.

Sam C.

Yelp
That's the main reason why I don't shop at super A foods they always sell meat that is spoil and to me they did not even wanted to give me a credit and manger was very rude so I left with my spoil pork chops to dump them in the trash this happened to me 3 times in one year so I don't shop there any more
google avatar

Kristin F.

Yelp
We tried the Super A deli and ordered the carnitas dinner and the ceviche mixto. We were super disappointed. The carnitas smelled and tasted disgusting - like it was starting to rot. The ceviche was not very tasty or fresh. We have been to the Superior Super Mercado in Pomona and everything was delicious-so we were expecting the same quality and freshness. We ended up throwing the whole dinner away. Really disappointed. Save yourself a trip and avoid the deli.

Sam C.

Yelp
I give them a 1/5 because of poor service. The management don't think. Very poor judgement The store did not wanted to give me my money back. I bought some pork chops and to my surprise when i got home to make dinner, I took them out of the bag the rotten smell the pork chops where spoiled rotten. This is the 4th time it has happened to me or my wife we spoken to the manager and the butchers and it look to me that they put on sale there almost spoiled meat so please spread the word before somebody gets sick also there marinated meat is meat that is almost spoiled and the marinated covers the bad smell. Please spread the word this store does not care about there customers but only making a profit.
google avatar

Benito L.

Yelp
Maybe my rating is a bit generous because I'm a Mexican super market virgin, but DAMMNNN where else can you feed 5 people for dinner (chorizo, carne asada, tilapia, corn, chips, guacamole, beer, tequila, triple sec, fresh tortillas) and still have TONS of leftovers for only 80 bucks. One word..... BUENO.
google avatar

Timas L.

Yelp
I really enjoy their bulk items. Thus store is very clean and great produce. Everyone here is so friendly. Prices are definitely cheaper here than other places.
google avatar

Claire H.

Yelp
What Super A does not have: - organic food - yuppie grains that I like to eat like quinoa and wild rice - cage-free eggs or milk from local dairies - pretentiousness What Super A does have: - a cozy, neighborhoody vibe - inexpensive and very fresh produce - a fantastic selection of spices and chili peppers - pre-made food that usually looks and and smells delicious (and fattening, not that I give a damn) - the best chips around - awesome oldies playing while you shop If you take it for what it is, Super A is great.
google avatar

Yelp
Their cakes are so good and can't complain about their prices! I definitely will go buy all my cakes here Now especially their fruit tart!
