The Best New Restaurants in San Diego | Eater San Diego

"Super Dumpling Cafe, a new dumpling destination, opened its doors in Piazza Carmel, replacing the former Villa Capri Italian restaurant. The new spot comes from the family behind Sunny Noodle House in Clairemont Mesa, who decided to head to North County to open a Chinese restaurant that uses other Asian diasporic influences. After undergoing a major renovation, the light-filled casual dim sum restaurant now slings xiao long bao (soup dumplings), pot stickers, grilled pork buns, and noodle dishes. The spot’s colorful soup dumping set features eight flavors, such as chicken and corn, black truffle, and Korean barbecue beef." - Helen I. Hwang

Google
The food was okay. I was really hoping to have a new regular spot for dumplings but flavor wise, none of the items stood out.

Alyssa Chiang

Google
Food was amazing - menu was broad but everything we ordered was pretty flavorful. Came during dinner rush so there was a bit of a wait. Service was prompt. Will definitely be back. Glad to have this spot opened up closer to where we are.

Google
This is a newly opened spot and I’m so glad I found it! The food is super tasty, the prices are reasonable, the place is really clean, and the service is great. It’s also super close to where I live, which makes it even better. I’ll definitely be coming back often and the flavors are just right for me!

Google
This place is a vibrant Chinese dim sum restaurant celebrated for its handcrafted dumplings and wok-fired classics. We came to Super Dumpling to celebrate my mom’s birthday after she spotted it on Instagram. This restaurant is brand new, barely two months in business. Their offerings cover everything you could want from appetizers, dumplings, bao, noodles, meats, seafood, vegetables, and a whole lot more. We ordered a generous amount of food - a few appetizers, four different dumplings, two kinds of fried rice, some meat dishes, and a handful of other plates. Every single dish, and I mean everything was flavorful, fresh, and perfectly prepared. There wasn’t anything I disliked. The servers and staff were very friendly, polite, and attentive. The teamwork was very precise, and I was impressed on how well they worked together and helped each other out. It’s not something you see all the time. Whether you’re a dim sum fanatic or just want to have delicious Chinese food, I highly recommend Super Dumpling!

Google
Great new spot! They’ve been open about a month and we will for sure go back. Our food came out pretty fast and was really good. We got both veggie and pork XLB. Along with the beef rice cake dish.

Google
Super Dumpling serves incredibly tasty, fresh, and high-quality Chinese food at great prices. The dumplings are amazing, and the service is top-notch. A must-try spot!

Yelp
Came here on a Wednesday night not too busy about 10 minute wait for a party of 2. We ordered the Pork & Cabbage dumplings + potstickers and the Beef Noodle soup. The dumplings were very juicy and came with a flavorful dipping sauce. The pot stickers had a really nice crispy skirt around them and were also super juicy. The beef noodle soup had nice chewy noodles and tender beef. We asked for green onions on the side and the staff quickly brought them to our table. Overall food was yummy and staff was nice. Service was pretty fast would come again.

Halle E.

Yelp
We really enjoyed our food at super dumpling. We got the string beans, cucumber salad, spicy chicken XLB, pork XLB, and pan fried pork pot stickers. Everything was incredibly flavorful and good portion sizes. Wait definitely builds up around dinner time (6pm). It's clean and smells good inside.

Natosha R.

Yelp
What a great local find! The parking is nice because there's a lot of spaces. I came Wednesday night for dinner with my sister and we had to wait for almost ten mins. Staff is super friendly and quick! I ordered the pan fried beef and onion and the pan fried pork and scallions. I also got the bok choy & green beans and they are so delicious. This place is definitely a new favorite of mine! 10/10

Yelp
We were in the area and this spot was on my list to try! There was a bit of a wait, but once seated, our food arrived quickly. We shared the cucumber salad, chongqing style spicy chicken, beef fried rice cakes, and an order of xiao long bao. The cucumber salad was cut too big, but the rest of the food was pretty tasty. They ran out of the piggy buns, but you can get them almost anywhere now.

Yelp
Read about this spot on Eater and given its so close, we decided to check it out one night after work. Restaurant is simple but clean, and the food smelled delicious when you walked through the door. We were greeted quickly and sat shortly thereafter. Once we were sat, there are QR codes on each table to order, however they did provide a paper menu as well. This is a newer spot and I believe may still be working out a few kinks in their service. While the staff was kind and our main dishes made it out hot and quick, the smaller items we ordered (i.e. soda and steamed rice) seemed to have been forgotten. We did have to remind the staff about those items and they were eventually brought out after two of the main dishes. Food wise, here's the breakdown of what we ordered: - Spring Rolls - Orange Chicken - Pork Xiao Long Bao - Beef & Onion Dumpling The Xiao Long Bao and the Beef & Onion dumplings were by far the favorites! Both were very delicious and packed with flavor. Spring rolls were perfectly golden and crispy! Sadly I felt orange chicken fell a little flat. It looks like it's going to come out swinging with flavor but I think really missed the mark. It wasn't bad by any means, just underwhelming and mild for what we had anticipated. That said, they're not known for their orange chicken here so I'd probably just skip that the next time and focus mainly on the dumplings! All in all, there are plenty of items I would return for and many more on the menu i'd like to come back and try! Will eventually make my way back and update the review accordingly :)

Yelp
Tried Super Dumpling for dinner and overall had a great experience. We ordered the pork xiao long bao, cucumber salad, Chongqing-style spicy chicken, and beef fried rice cake. The Chongqing chicken was the standout--crispy, juicy bites packed with bold Sichuan spices. If you like heat and that signature numbing flavor, this dish delivers. The xiao long bao were also very good, with a savory filling and nice soup-to-dough ratio. The cucumber salad was just okay--the dressing was garlicky and flavorful, but the cucumber pieces were cut a bit too large and chunky for easy eating. The beef fried rice cake was comforting and satisfying, with tender slices of beef and chewy rice cakes that soaked up the flavor nicely. Portions were generous, prices were fair, and the food came out quickly. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area and craving some quality Chinese food--especially the spicy chicken!

Yelp
Was excited to have Chinese eatery in this part of San Diego. We ordered quite a variety of dishes - Xiao long boa, pork and chives pan fried dumplings, eggplant with garlic sauce, house special pan fried rice cake, sweet and sour pork and chili oil pork/shrimp wontons. My favorite was the pan fried rice cake which had some wok hay. All the other dishes were mediocre with the skin of Xiao long bao being too thick. Prices also felt high for the portion. Not bad but definitely have room for improvement.

Yelp
Super Dumping is a Chinese restaurant which opened a month ago in Carmel Valley is about 8 mins east of Del Mar located in an open complex with plenty of free parking. Indoor and outdoor seating. What a late lunch here several weeks ago and made sure I visited post lunch crowd for avoid wait time. As I approached the restaurant, I noticed most of the outdoor seating near the restaurant were occupied by diners, mostly non Asians... After stepping inside, three hostile staffers asked if I was there for order pick up, I said no, I'm here to dine. The staffers immediately pointed outside, telling me to sit outside. It happened to be a particularly hot day, too unbearable and uncomfortable for me and Fendi and I communicated that to the staffers, as well as informed them Fendi is legitimately a service dog, The older male staffer asked for proof, which I quickly produced, and that ended that discussion. BTW, it's legally against ASPCU policy to asked for proof. I then pointed to the table I wanted to sit at and they all hesitatingly obliged. I sat close to the entry and observed that I the only non Asian sitting inside. The diners outside were African American and the optics was NOT good PR for this restaurant. Had already previewed the menu and ordered an iced Chinese green tea, and three entrees. Only tea and sodas available. No beer, wine or alcoholic beverages. The female waitress who took my order was surprised I ordered three entrees, as a solo diner. I wanted to order more but was reluctant because because the staffer informed me the kitchen could NOT accommodate my request for 'no pork' in the multi colored dumplings, as I do NOT eat pork. I hate it when a simple request can't be made, ugh! Ordered the golden dumplings filled with crab and shrimp, which were very tasty but had minimal soup broth. Additionally, ordered the Mongolian Beef noodles which were also good. The Kung Pao shrimp dish looked good but lacked flavor. I ate all of the dumplings and after tasting the other entrees had these boxed togo. I was not comfortable the tension the staffers projected, an overall negative dining experience. As each dish was presented, I took pics and videos of the food. The staffers came out and one of them recognized Me and Fendi. The battery on my iPhone was at 1% and desperately needed to be charged. I didn't have my portable charger and asked the younger male staffer if he had a charger I can borrow, there was a plug outlet on the wall next to me, the staffer said he would not let me borrow his charger, which I thought was not nice. The staffers chatted and then I was asked to lots of post pics of their food, I guess the hostile tone seemed to have dissipated but my phone was about to die and their staffer wasn't helpful. The restaurant looked clean with typical Chinese furnishings and decor. Service from staffers needs serious improvement in terms of training to be less hostile towards non Asian diners, be more cordial, hospitable and accommodating. Despite having tasty Chinese food, when the staffers warmed up to be semi nice, it was it was a little too late, as their uncordial demeanor would turn any diner off.

Yelp
Super Dumpling looks shiny and new.  I tried the house special chow mein.  Chicken, beef, and shrimp were tender and had nice flavors.  Soy sauce was applied a bit heavy handed but I could still taste the mild mild starchy flavor.  I did like the smoky flavor imparted from the wok.  Pretty good dish but I prefer Minh Ky's version. 2nd visit I tried 2 different dishes. Pan fried dumplings with pork and Chinese cabbage.  I liked the crispy shell and the salty filling.  Interesting how there was a small amount of liquid inside like a soup dumpling. Yangzhou style fried rice had shrimp, pork, ham, and eggs.  There were a good amount of shrimp in this dish but not much pork and ham.  Shrimp was plump and had a nice flavor.  Pork was tender and I liked the flavor.  Ham was cut into tiny bits and hard to taste.  Overall this was a pretty good dish. Chairs had a cool looking seat cushion but not much better than sitting on hardwood. Staff was nice and efficient except it took over a half hour for my pan fried dumplings to come out even though I was the first customer and put in my order first.

Yelp
New local dumpling & Chinese food spot took over where Villa Capri was in Carmel Valley. Our area needed a restaurant like this. Food was very good and so creative! Love that the dumplings come in different colors. All colors are made naturally and the menu explains that. Highly recommend trying the Xiao Long Boa (soup dumplings). Our favorite was the Black Truffle which uses squid ink to get that deep color in the dough. My kids loved everything. The portions are big which is great for a Mom like me with two teenage boys. Service was great! They were very attentive even though they were bustling with a full restaurant and lots of take out orders. The reason for 4 stars instead of five is that the Chinese food was a little greasier than other local Chinese restaurants. We will be going back to this new neighborhood spot

Yelp
To avoid waiting in line for a table, go before the lunch/dinner rush. It looks like it is trying to setup some sort of online waiting system. Hopefully it will come soon. We sat at one of the outside tables at 5:30PM on a Friday evening. By 6PM, there is a line of people waiting and watching us eat, lol. Be aware: there is $1 "convenience fee" if you order online with the table QR code. hmmm... I saved some waiter time. Whose convenience is that, restaurant owner or the customers? Food: Kitchen hot dishes taste were decent. My son liked the eggplant in garlic sauce because of the sauce. The pepper beef was tender. Portion size: good for 2-3 peopl; not family sharing size. XLB and pan fried dumplings: average. The wrapping skin is a bit too thick. This is probably good for causal family takeout dinner on hot kitchen hot dishes, although the portion size needs to increase. People don't need to go to Convoy and Mira Mesa for Chinese food. Really want to like this restaurant but it has some room for improvement.

Yelp
Overall. The food was good at Super Dumpling. The best dishes we had were the Beef Chow Fun and Xiao Long Baos. We didn't care for the chow mein nor the garlic eggplant. The chow mein tasted sour and the garlic eggplant was burnt and then covered in chili oil to cover the taste. The ambiance was clean, but unfortunately extremely noisy due to a kids soccer team that was seated next to us. Decided to leave as soon as possible because it was literally hurting our ears. We will come back again to try out other dishes.

Yelp
Came on a weekend with a large group and got sat at the large table with the conveyer belt. We got the signature xiao long bao, which was one of each of the different types of soup dumplings. I had the crab, it was good it had a strong crab/seafood flavor but I wish I just had a traditional pork xiao long bao. They are color coded so you can determine which is which. We got 2 of the pan fried dumplings; pork and chives and beef and onion. These were my favorite, they were crispy on the bottom and chewy on top. They were also very juicy, actually much more juice than the xiao long bao (soup dumplings) Bok Choy with garlic was nicely stir fried, still retained its crunch. I like the bok choy but liked the the string beans more. It was nicely blistered with black beans and garlic. Beef chow fun was probably the second favorite dish of the day. The beef was tender and the noodles soft and had a good soy flavor. We ordered the mapo tofu less spicy but it was still rather spicy. I could taste Sichuan peppercorn it had a spicy zing and slight citrus flavor. It was the perfect heat for me. I can't imagine how spicy the regular would be. For dessert we got the Ube buns. The menu states 4 pieces yet the picture shows 8 pieces. So it was a bit confusing. When it arrived it came with 8 pieces. It tasted more like taro than Ube. It was not as sweet or deep purple as I think Ube is. Service was excellent. We were sat at the one large table with the conveyer belt. So if you have a large party make sure you make a reservation as all the other table are mostly 4 tops. Ordering was done via QR code which came with a $1 convince fee, not a big deal but I think you could order with the waitress if you want to avoid it. There's lots of parking in the lot. Over all a good meal. Definitely get the pan fried dumplings. Note menu errors Ube bun 8 pieces (4 stated on menu) Menu says "Safood" should say Seafood

Yelp
Came here with my three Chinese friends, we were all so excited to try this new Chinese restaurant. This place has a very casual vibe, and the service was efficient. We went all in, and ordered 1. xlb,: (2.5/5) 2. 8 color xlb :(2.5/5) 3. pork and shrimp dumpling with chili oil : (3.5/5) 4. pan fried pork and chives dumplings : (3.5/5) 5. sweet and sour pork with pineapples: (2/5) 6. eggplants with garlic sauce: (2.5/5), and 7. fried rice cakes: (3.5/5) All in all, the food was ok, not too bad but not something we would rush back for.

Yelp
Lunch for 2 cost $75 We ordered: Xiao long bao sampler. $19.95 Sweet and sour pork with pineapple. $18.95 Green beans $15.95 Cucumber-salad $8.95 Bowls of rice $1.99 x2 PORK: son barely ate 3 bites and spit out a huge wad of fat. Then he was done. I could tell this was a dish for people who wanted old school Cantonese-American style dishes. But way too fatty and tough. XLB SAMPLER : just ok - Black Truffle tasted more like concentrated mushrooms, not truffle...Trust me. Green veggie was ok. Pork was decent. Spicy was not spicy. KBBq did not taste Korean. The BEST flavor was CRAB. But I just had to try all of them for the cute colors and the novelty, lol! GREEN BEANS: slightly overcooked and oily but delicious- not as crisp and fresh like Din Tai Fung CUCUMBERS: delicious! Bottom line: If I have to pay Din Tai Fung prices, I'd rather eat there. Decent alternative if you are in the area. Don't order the pork and pineapple.

Yelp
Everything here was delicious. We ordered the beef and broccoli, fried rice, walnut shrimp, pork and shrimp dumplings, and the chicken corn soup. The only think that lacked a little flavor was the soup. Everything else was bomb. Will definitely come back. The service was great and the place is very nice and clean.
google avatar

Yelp
Came here for dinner last night and enjoyed the feast. They ran out of beef noodle soup so we were sad about that. 1) soup dumplings signature pork - this was delicious, we got 2 orders of them 2) sweet and sour pork spare ribs / small pieces of pork but flavor was good 3) hot sour soup - tasty and lots of meat 4) 2 bowls of white rice - yum 5) cucumber salad - decent and not too spicy 6) spicy pork and shrimp wontons - good! Would recommend this to anyone who is in the area.

Yelp
We came to Super Dumpling recently for a group weekend lunch after learning that it opened in the Piazza Carmel off Hwy 56. I am not sure if this business was related to one of the same name from Orange County because on the outside of a takeout menu, there was a crossed-out Brooklyn, NY address and phone number. Perhaps it had some roots on the East Coast, but I never asked the staff. Parking was plentiful in the plaza lot. The inside of the suite was smaller than I had expected with a capacity for about 50 customers. There was only one large oval table which we occupied because of our party of eight. In the middle was an automated lazy susan that was operated by remote control. I had never seen one of these before, but it was a neat contraption with the conveyor belt rotating counterclockwise slowly. You had to be careful and ensure that no objects were near the belt because dishes that were set on the lazy susan could collide with them and cause spillage. There were nearly 100 choices on the menu as each item was numbered for easy reference. We chose the following spread for our meal that arrived in the following order. * Sauteed String Beans * Stir Fried Bok Choy with Garlic * Spring Rolls (4 pc) * Beef Chow Fun * Mapo Tofu * Signature Xiao Long Baos (8 pc) * Vegetable Fried Rice * Pan Fried Beef and Onion Dumpling (8 pc) * Pan Fried Pork and Chives Dumpling (8 pc) * Ube Bun (8 pc) The Sauteed String Beans had fermented black beans, scallion, and minced garlic for garnishments that added pungent flavors. The Spring Rolls came with a side of sweet dipping sauce. We asked for the Mapo Tofu to be less spicy than the two chiles symbols shown on the menu. It still had quite a bit of kick from the Sichuan peppercorn in the spicy sauce. The Signature XLBs consisted of one of each of the following soup dumplings that were colored differently to distinguish the fillings. The quality was good, but not the best we have tried. * Pork - beige * Chicken and Corn - blue * Korean BBQ Beef - brown * Crab Meat and Shrimp - yellow * Crab Meat - orange * Black Truffle - black * Spicy Chicken - red * Vegetable - green Our party thought the two sets of pan-fried dumplings were the best items because they had a juicy filling that squirted out liquid when you bit into them. This was what I expected from the XLBs, however the effect was not the same. The Ube Buns for dessert were the least impressive offering. The food arrived from the kitchen at a steady pace. The automated lazy susan allowed each of us to snap a photo of the items when they rotated in front of our setting. I enjoyed our lunch enough to give Super Dumpling a four star rating.

Yelp
Came on a Saturday evening around 6 pm, there was a line out the door, given it's a soft opening. Overall great service, food came out relatively quickly. Here's what we got: - string beans: crispy, probably once deep fried (opposed to twice) but I liked it this way as it didn't taste as dry, it was still tender and well flavored - Xiao long bao: the skin is doughier/chewier than DTF's but I prefer that texture - could have had more soup inside, but overall pretty good - salt and pepper fish: crispy and perfect amount of seasoning, even my husband (who doesn't normally eat fish), liked it. However it didn't have much fish meat inside, it was more batter heavy - pan fried pork dumplings: this is probably my favorite dish. It tasted fresh and hot off the stove. The extra skin fried onto the bottom added the perfect texture

Yelp
I would say generally 4 star experience, 3 for food, and 4 for service, efficiency, and cleaniness of space. We had a reservation and we able to grab the big table with the lazy Susan/conveyor belt thing. They had a lot of high chairs stacked in a corner and we were able to help ourselves to two of them for the toddlers. Even not moving some of the adult chairs aside, we had plenty of room around this table and that was nice for a change. There was a QR code to pull up the digital menu and order online as well as paper menus. We were able to place our order digitally (but there's a $1 convenience fee for that). The standout dish was probably the pot stickers and we tried the beef/onion one and the pork one. Both were delicious, super juicy with lots of broth inside and the crisp of the skin really good. There was more broth in the pot stickers than the soup dumpling. Since we got the assortment, I tried the original one and it's definitely not as expertly made as DTF. I also enjoyed the veggies fried rice and both bok choy and green beans veggie dishes. The one dish I would not order again was the Ube dessert dumpling. It tasted more like mashed taro and was super bland. Definitely worth visiting again to try other items.

Yelp
This was our first time here and it was a wonderful experience. Good service, delicious food, and plenty of seating. The dumplings were solid and all the dishes we ordered were tasty. The only thing we noticed was the food was a bit salty but otherwise great. It's a bit out of way for us but this is a solid Chinese restaurant that I can see us coming back if we are ever around in this area.

Yelp
The weather and rain gave me the perfect excuse I needed to order soups for lunch while working at home and I am sooooooooo happy!! I walked in and the staff said, "Oh, you're back!" That made me very happy!! Having run companies in China for 20+ years, I have really missed great authentic Chinese food and Super Dumpling is as authentic as it gets without having to drive to Convoy and deal with the craziness of parking and traffic and sometimes, mediocre Asian cuisine! My test in the US for potentially a great Chinese restaurant is their Hot and Sour - a great hot and sour soup shares the authenticity in the broth, the heat, the sourness from the Chinese vinegar and the ingredients used. The Hot and Sour soup at Super Dumpling is undoubtedly the BEST I have ever had. The broth is and depth of flavor is superb and I love that the heat and contribution to the flavor profile is derived primarily from white pepper, so, it's an incredible burn. Also, the pork is more like a spam meat versus just shredded pork so that flavor also enhanced the depth of flavor in the broth. The mixture of the vegetables and the egg is perfect. My wife doesn't like any spice so I ordered her the Chicken and Corn Chowder, their version of what most Americans call egg drop soup. This version is really delicious with small pieces of chicken throughout the soup and when the chicken broth is thickened, it ensures every spoonful has some chicken, some corn and some tofu. It's excellent. The food was so delicious for lunch, I'm thinking about going back for dinner - I really want to try their Chongqing Style Spicy Chicken, a dish I would always eat when I was in Chengdu, Sichuan, China for business!! I LOVE SUPER DUMPLING!!

Yelp
The waiting system is very organized with a text message system when your table is ready. The place was very full when we got here. Plenty of free parking outside which is a plus. They're pretty fast with the entrees. It's very a clean and well organized sitting area The colorful dumplings are super fun and delicious. The rest of the food was average

Yelp
Found this gem while looking for homes for a client. The spot is hidden amongst subway, hardware store , and other spots. The quality of the food made me feel like I should be in San Fran's Chinatown. Came here two days in a row because the food was delicious. Tasty dumplings. I ordered the kung Pao chicken. And the 2nd day I took my mom . We ordered XiLongBao. The service was great. They get busy during lunch but we were sat quickly.

Yelp
My wife and I really enjoyed the beef noodle soup, the chili wontons, and pork xiao long bao a lot. We will come back again. Lots of souo in the xial long bao, and really balanced and delicious beef noodle soup. Even the chili wontons and some soup and was really yummy. Service was great too.

Yelp
Great service and good food. Just a bit in the pricey side. For the 2 of us it was over $80. We got 2 of the XLB samplers since we both wanted to try them all. Definitely wasn't enough food as we expected so we added on a shrimp and pineapple fried rice and red bean buns. The fried rice flavor was good but the shrimp was lacking. For nearly $20, we expected more than 1/2 dozen pieces of shrimp. The XLB sampler was nice to try once but we wouldn't do it again. Our favorite was the crab and shrimp one.

Yelp
My neighbor and I were excited to try the new restaurant in our neighborhood. We see the potential, but there is definitely room for improvement! Our order: honey walnut shrimp, orange chicken and an order of pork & chive dumplings. The Good: The honey walnut shrimp was spot-on - would definitely order it again The dumplings - very tasty Pitcher of water at table (so you don't have to wait on the server to bring refills, esp. since they're busy) Staff friendliness Restaurant cleanliness The Not So Good: Rice was not included with the meal - we had to pay $2 extra The orange chicken (the sauce was lacking flavor) - would not order again The timing - we were done eating when the dumplings finally showed up Incorrect order - the server asked if we wanted the the dumplings boiled or pan-fried. We asked which he recommended and he said pan-fried. We were brought boiled so we had to wait even longer for the correct order to be made. Boring decor - hopefully they'll decorate more in the future Overall opinion - given that this was a soft opening, we didn't expect perfection, but I think we'll wait a few months to let them grow into their new business before returning.

Yelp
I had a great experience the first time we visited. Both the food and service were excellent. Unfortunately, this visit was a very different experience. Although the restaurant was only half full, the service felt disorganized. I placed an order for three items, and while the first two came out promptly and tasted great, the third never arrived. After waiting about 10 minutes without any updates, I had to flag down my server to ask about it. That's when I found out it was never entered into the system. Something I wasn't told until I asked. No apologies for the mistake. By that point, I had already been waiting over 20 minutes. When I requested the check, they let me know the third item would take another 10 minutes but offered it to me for free. While I appreciated the gesture, the lack of communication was frustrating. I still think the food is very good, but the service needs improvement to match. I hope this was just an off day, because I'd love to return and have the kind of experience we enjoyed the first time.

Yelp
What a wonderful gem in our Carmel valley neighborhood! The food is excellent, the service impeccable! Amy, the owners daughter is super sweet and knowledgeable about their extensive menu. We had the steamed dumplings which were as good as Din Tai Fung. Also, the beef noodle soup is one of the best in town. Add to that easy, plentiful parking, we will definitely be regulars at this restaurant!

Yelp
Had high expectations after waiting an hour to be seated. Unfortunately, the wait for the food after being seated took another hour. And the dishes were brought out individually all about 10 minutes apart. They definitely have a shortage of workers and it showed. I might be able to forgive the delays if the food was good, but out of all 5 dishes, all were mediocre at best. The cucumber was very plain and the slices too thick. The rice cake dish was all soy sauce flavor. The dumplings were not too bad but the dough a little thick. Maybe they are going through growing pains, but will not be coming back for awhile.

Yelp
Beautiful new dumpling restaurant in the plaza near Pavilions. We loved the dumplings and bao buns. The green beans were spectacular in a garlic sauce. And for added protein we tried the fried lamb with onions. Everything was so delicious! We will definitely be back!

Yelp
...super dumpling cafe in the piazza carmel location in carmel valley, the hot and sour was souping, the bok was choiing, beef chow was funning, chicken was dumpling, and the xiao long was baoing. airy and bright dining area. menu items are ordered directly from the mobile app right from your table. food comes out fast and piping hot. just a matter of time before wait times are the norm. aside from the xlb, highly recommend any noodle or fried rice dish.

Yelp
Probably woulda been way better if ate in the restaurant. Xlb wasn't hot enoguh. Same with chongqing chicken.

Yelp
Went during their opening week. Food was good. More authentic than Chin's Szechuan or PF Chang's. More homestyle/low-key than Chef Zhu, Glassbox, and Taste of Hunan. Not as good as Din Tai Fung or Shan Xi Magic Kitchen, which continue to be my favorite Taiwanese/Chinese restaurants in the San Diego area. Service was good. It was a large room with tables and chairs, no booths, and no dividers. Things that stood out was the one large table with a conveyor belt/lazy susan and the large glass windows into the kitchen area. Haven't been back yet but always glad to have more Asian food options.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing some of the best Chinese I've ever had in my entire life. Clean restaurant very kind staff ordering is a piece of cake. The food is remarkable and to die for you need to not walk, but run immediately to eat here. The only problem is that they don't have cots that you can lie on afterwards because you want to keep stuffing your face because it's so good. Their food is extremely traditional. The flavors are beyond. I'm so happy to have this in my neighborhood and I'll be back 100 times.

Yelp
The food was good! We would comeback here again. Here have some other dishes that Chinese restaurant near me did not have it. So we would come back here to eat again! They quite busy today though but is Sunday so lots of customers.

Yelp
Good service, food is authentic. A wide selection of dumplings, and a good substitute of Ding Tai Feng for the local.

Yelp
Great new addition to Del Mar. Shrimp pan fried dumplings so flavorful. This is definitely a must try when you are in the area.

Yelp
Legit Chinese food with good depth of flavor! The best dish was the salt and pepper fish filet. The string beans and chicken chow mein were solid. I wouldn't get the spicy chicken again because personally I'm not a big fan of Szechuan. The portions were average for the price. You'll get much larger portions with similar quality at other Chinese restaurants in Mira Mesa, but this is the best you can get for this area of North County. Definitely worth checking out. The service was lacking in that we had to flag someone down for the check well after we finished, but no biggie.

Yelp
Nice restaurant! I will try next time ~ food dumpling is tasty, and sour spicy soup, crispy chicken. Server is not very fast since is soft opening.

Yelp
Cucumber salad and Garlic Bok Choy were both delicious! Pan fried pork and cabbage dumplings were good. Cashew chicken was good along with Walnut Shrimp.

Yelp
An authentic Chinese restaurant. They certainly make delicious dumplings from scratch. But, they also have a great selection of Cantonese and Szechuan dishes. Yum!

Yelp
The owner responded to my initial review , and this is my response in return : if you have reviewed the security footage, then you clearly saw me still seated at the table when the high chair was taken away and the sweeping took place. You likely also saw me trying to eat what I can, and pack left overs at the same time since I got the hint that the hostess was hurrying us out. I won't be returning as a customer (even though the noodles were great), but hopefully you can leave patrons to dine at their own pace, especially families with small children. ----------- The dumplings were pretty bland (I got the pork and shrimp flavor). The beef noodle soup was pretty good though. 2 stars because the service we received from the main hostess was unpleasant and uncomfortable towards the end: - She brought us the check unprompted and asked us if we needed go-to boxes. We were still eating, and this was a Wednesday afternoon with plenty of empty tables. So I'm not sure what the rush was. - She took away the high chair from our table, even though I was still eating. My kid stepped outside to play temporarily but still needed the high chair. No other kids were at the restaurant, so again, not sure why she was in a rush to remove the high chair. - Then she started sweeping the floor where the high chair was. At this point, I finally got the hint that she was trying to rush us out? I'm really not sure. But sucks that I couldn't finish the meal in peace.

Yelp
We've been waiting for this place to open for months and loved our dinner here! We ordered the XLB, green beans, wontons in chili oil, and general tsos chicken. Everything was delicious and we will definitely be back!
