East Village Restaurant Superiority Burger Opens a New Tokyo Location | Eater NY

"Now operating in Tokyo, the second location of Brooks Headley’s rock-and-roll vegetarian counter Superiority Burger offers a different menu and specials from the East Village original: the tofu-fried-tofu sandwich comes with a kinpira slaw; the chicory salad has been boosted with sticky persimmons and purple daikon; there’s a new sandwich on a roll with yuba, mixed herbs, frizzled onions, and pickles. As with the East Village spot, things change daily based on what’s seasonal — including the gelato — and the Tokyo outpost also has a very cute sign outside." - Serena Dai

Brooks Headley Readies to Reopen Superiority Burger

"Superiority Burger in Tokyo was opened in 2019 by two customers who struggled to find vegan food options in the city. Brooks Headley and his cooks assisted in establishing this location, which serves as a counterpart to the original New York restaurant. Headley continues to visit Tokyo regularly, enjoying the opportunity to explore one of his favorite places in the world." - Chris Crowley, Dolly Faibyshev

Sicilian Oregano Is the Pizzaiolo’s Secret Weapon

"Chef Brooks Headley calls it “extra‑oregano‑y” and scatters the branches over his pizzalike focaccia, preferring to crush the herb between his fingertips before applying; his enthusiasm is so strong that he even packed branches in Ziploc bags when flying to open a satellite in Tokyo." - Grub Street

Great vegan burger joint. I tried their スペリオリティーバーガー (Superiority Burger) and their ユバクリエイションズ (Yuba Creations) and both were delicious. Amazing taste and texture, really well seasoned. Superiority Burger has a more classic taste (delicious, though) and Yuba Creations has a kind of sweet, innovative taste (it reminded me to yakisoba, somehow). Set comes with a soft drink and fried sweet potatoes (delicious and amazing texture, crunchy and soft). Total was ¥2,700 (including the two burger sets). The restaurant has a small dining area, so it’s convenient to order to go (or just to eat there if you want a quick bite). Nice rock music in the background and decoration. Friendly staff.

A very small but very lovely place, there were about 7 people when I visited, which made the place quite full. The seats are basketballs and surprisingly working well once you adjust in them. I had the special Yuba Creation burger available in Japan, coffee and tiramisu. The special burgers are served with crunchy potatoes and a drink. The burger is on the smaller size, but was incredibly tasty. It made me wish I ordered a second burger instead of the tiramisu (which by the way, as an Italian didn’t make me angry at all :P), then I tried the tiramisu and I wish I ordered 2 burgers and 2 tiramisu! Very tasty place maybe risking overcrowding, but recommended if you’re in Shimokitazawa, it has a good vibe and really tasty free water.

I was reading some article about places to eat in Shimokitazawa and this caught my attention because burger (surprisingly, vegan at that!) and yuba. I had the Yuba Creations Burger set (which is a Japan only flavor) and it was good! I think I want to try the tofu burger sometime.

Best vegan burger I've ever had! Very tasty and even more messy. 😀 I don't usually eat veganized versions of meat preferring to just eat regular old veggies but for some reason had been craving a burger. And this place delivered! It's small and below street level, so you have to look for it. But don't ask for fries because like the sign says, "no dogs, no fries, no smoking". Nuff said!

If you like burgers, come here, simple as that. The burgers here are simply excellent, whether you’re comparing them to other vegan burgers or to meaty ones. The burger patty seems to be bean-based, which gives them plenty of flavour and makes a nice change from those which try to replicate the texture of meat too exactly. The vegan cheese seems like a proper slice of American cheese, doing just what you need. And of course the salad, pickles and all the rest are present and correct. It doesn’t feel unnecessarily gourmet, quite the opposite: it’s messy in the best way, satisfyingly filling, and simply a delight. Oh, and don’t ignore the gelato! The milky kinako flavour we tried was incredible: smooth, sweet and luxurious. If I had any criticism, it would be that the basketball-constructed seating isn’t amazingly comfortable (though not quite as bad as it looks) and there aren’t many tables inside so you may struggle to get a seat. These negatives are hugely outweighed by the positives though. If you’re looking for a burger in Tokyo, you must come here.

The place was easy to find. Came here for the lunch set which includes the superiority burger, a side (potatoes and vegetables or coconut potatoes soup) and coffee or tea. The portions are pretty small but the burger was delicious! Would come back to try some of the other vegan burger options! The lunch special ends at 1400. The place was not crowded and there were plastic separators between the seats.

This is a very famous American chain of vegan burgers that started in NYC. Located in Shibuya near the Meiji-Jingu Harajuku station it is a small restaurant specializing in completely vegan "junk" food. They have three main burgers and daily special side dishes and sweets. The burgers are delicious and have a surprising amount of mayo, other sauces, lettuce and tomato. The side dishes are also good especially the red lentil and crispy brown rice. The lunch set consists of one burger, a side dish and 1 drink, sweets and salads are separate. Although they are 100% vegan it doesn't feel that you're compromising taste for health! and the side dishes are full of different tastes and flavor profiles. The ambience is very American with high-rise service counters and high seating chairs. It is located a floor below the main street and is accessible either by an extremely narrow and winding spiral staircase or a straight and wide stairway. Updates for new side-dish of the day can be found on their Instagram page. Definitely recommended for those looking to satisfy their (vegan) burger cravings.

My first time ever trying a vegan burger, and I must admit I enjoyed this a lot more than I was expecting to. I had the Superiority Cheese Burger set, which includes the burger, small potato wedges, and a drink (black coffee for me). The wedges were small, but good, but the burger was a real winner. I honestly am not even sure what the sauce was they had on it, but it was good. I also had the caramel vanilla gelato, and it was smooth and creamy. The reason I am giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because I hated the seating. The seats are made of Spaulding basketballs, which looks cool, but was really uncomfortable. If not for the terrible seats this would be 5 stars from me.
