Supreme Court Cafeteria Serves Bad Pizza, Thanks to Justice Brett Kavanaugh - Eater DC

"According to a couple of enterprising D.C. reporters, it is very bad pizza. Roll Call writer Clyde McGrady sampled the personal pan pies after a 25-minute wait in line at the publicly accessible dining room. He ranked it as, 'just below Pizza Hut and just above the average gas station offering.' Washington Post food columnist Tim Carman recently sampled two of the pizzas, priced from $6.50 to $8, and described the premade pies as relics of a time when Kavanaugh, 'Squee,' and their boarding school buddies were running amok in Ocean City." - Gabe Hiatt

The US Supreme Court Cafeteria is a remarkable, hidden gem in our nation’s capital. Lurking in the bowels of the court is a full service cafeteria! You go thinking you’re about to argue your case before Justices in the highest court in the land, or more likely attending court or getting sworn in…and you go early because you are always early to court and you learn there’s a cafeteria! Clean, inviting and comfortable. Made to order omelette, 2 patties, a supreme cup of coffee and your day is bound for success regardless of the justice’s decision. Keto friendly too!

Grab-and-go bites, items grilled when ordered and a barista. Nice quiet area to eat. Options aren't as plentiful as at the Capital building but this atmosphere is much more relaxing. Orders are done on a large touch screen. Not a ton of service, mostly do-it-yourself. Highly recommend.

I ordered a tuna cheese (American cheese) melt with mayo; I did not get my cheese on it. I went back and told the employees this, and they were happy to remake it. They gave me a new one, but the cheese wasn't American and there was no mayo on it. But whatever, I just sucked it up and grabbed a mayo packet instead of going back again because I wasn't going to have them remake the whole thing again. My dad also ordered a cheeseburger and paid extra for bacon, and they gave him no bacon

Just visited the Supreme Court Cafe for the first time since the pandemic shutdown. It's been revamped quite a bit. Customers now order via kiosk. The menu has been revamped with healthier options in addition to the usual stuff. I ordered one of the weekly specials, a salad with quinoa, sweet potatoes, white cheddar cheese, greens, and sunflower seeds, along with some kind of light dressing that seemed homemade and was nicely flavored (not overly salty or oily). It was excellent! The kiosk setup also enabled me to order a Cafe Misto from the coffee bar, which now serves Starbucks items, complete with barista (albeit with a more limited menu than the usual Starbucks, and no Starbucks cards accepted). The dining room is as clean (very) and pleasant as I remember, and, of course, very secure. It's a terrific place to get work done after enjoying a meal. I would give the cafe five stars overall if it weren't for the prices, which are more what one would expect for restaurant food than for cafeteria food. Can't have everything, I guess.

The very best cafeteria I have been to in Washington. The pizza slice is big, and the price is small. And the staff is very nice and helpful!

Yelp
After a long hiatus, I had lunch with some friends at the Supreme Court Cafe today. The company was stellar, but alas... the cafe was not what it used to be. A new company called Brock has taken it over and installed touchscreens for both ordering and payment, and reduced the quality and variety of the menu. Gone are the steam tables full of collard greens, macaroni and cheese, hush puppies, fried chicken and smothered pork chops... the fountain sodas (and the fuzzy ice) and even the Salad Bar have gone by the wayside. Instead, there is a limited menu of grilled and cold sandwiches, plus a few other items. My uninspiring Tuna Melt and cardboard Onion Rings were not worth the tight security measures at the door. Skip this place, if possible, and eat at Pete's Diner instead. https://brockcafe.com/supremecourt/

Yelp
Go for the historic value of the location, but stay for the delicious club sandwich. The Italian Club is a hard skip, don't waste your time or money. A Starbucks is located in this area & has the standard items.

Yelp
Stopped by the cafe while in town for a conference. Loved the breakfast sandwich and the Starbucks coffee menu. The staff was very friendly.

Yelp
A good selection of grab and go foods and a Kiosk for made to order foods. One thing to watch out for is sometimes they call your order number when ready and other times, you need to check the pickup stand.

Yelp
Here at the epicenter of government there aren't many options to sit down & grab a bite to eat. And while the court itself is magnificent, the cafeteria is a desperation choice -- Stale bread for your sandwiches; sullen & disengaged staff. The grim, greasy hot food line is reminiscent of high school. The bulk of the two stars here is due to convenience, with the rest because the prices are reasonable. If you're in a pinch for lunch, it's a minimally viable option. But if you have some endurance left, I'd suggest elsewhere.

Yelp
Be prepared to wait. The employees working in the building will cut you in line. I'm not sure if this is a privilege they're supposed to have but it's a little frustrating when 8-10 of them cut in front of you while you're waiting to order. I ended up waiting for 15 minutes! Also there was only 1 person at the grill station at the peak of lunch time when the 2nd worker decided to take a lunch break... The food is mediocre. Probably less than mediocre. Think of the lunch food you had back in elementary school. Edible? Yes. Enjoyable and worth the price? No. I highly recommend skipping eating at the Supreme Court and spending your money elsewhere for lunch.

Yelp
We stopped in for lunch after our lecture; and, after touring the Supreme Court. My wife and our daughter opted for the Fried Chicken, on with Waffles, the other with Green Beans. Entrees are priced at a bargain of $5-to-$6. I just had a couple of slices of Toast and some Chicken Soup, as I wasn't feeling well. Unfortunately, the soup was quite salty; but, it did perk me up. Bottled and Fountain beverages of all sorts are available, priced at $2-to-$3, better than many of the tourist attractions. The buffet line is a bit cramped; but, the dining hall is spacious and comfortable. Trash and Tray Return are right near the exit. Good Job!

Yelp
Burgers, sandwiches and salad. Not huge but big on service and freshness. Excellent sandwiches with the most amazing roast beef I have seen in a long time. Son happy with burger from the grill. And did I mention the service. All the staff there was so friendly and helpful. Great stop after you trek through the museum although have heard the cafe at Library of Congress even more amazing!

Yelp
About what you'd expect from a cafeteria. The food was OK... maybe slightly above average for a cafeteria. Unfortunately, the service was poor. There were only two food servers and the last thing they seemed interested in was serving food. We seemed to be a nuisance to them.
