Where to Find The Best Afro-Latine Dishes in Houston | Eater Houston

"With the motto “tacos for the culture,” the already internet-famous Supreme Gumbo feels like a true culinary adventure. The restaurant, now located in Third Ward, has gone viral for its tacos and quesadillas infused with a Southern staple — a rich and savory gumbo that combines Cajun and Mexican flavors in a compelling way. Aside from their saucy renditions of Mexican favorites, Supreme Gumbo also serves smothered and fried catfish, cheesesteak, and plates of oxtail." - Camilo Hannibal Smith

Supreme Gumbo - Review - The Heights - Houston - The Infatuation

"Supreme Gumbo took the internet by storm with their decadent gumbo-filled tacos and quesadillas. They’ve since moved their operation from the inside of a gas station in the Third Ward to a new brick and mortar in the Heights. In addition to their gumbo-based creations, they’re also making boudin balls and ribs during the week and fried catfish on the weekends." - Gianni Greene

We were guided to this place by a good friend, and we were greeted by owner Barry Thompson. We ordered the Gumbo Tacos, a cup of Gumbo, and the Catfish plate. ALL of the food was delicious. The gumbo (chicken and sausage) had flavor, spice, and plenty of the rich flavorful roux. Now the tacos, I don't know what magical event occurred in that kitchen, but those are a must-have item. And lastly the Catfish, there were two large fillers with a well seasoned corn meal coating that added a wonderful crunch on the edges.

Best tasting gumbo I had in a minute. 10/10 Ordered for the second day but I didn’t get the shrimp. Just sausage and chicken. Still 10/10 for consistency. And somebody mastered the roux. Lawwwd. You can damn near drink it 😅😋 I tried the tacos and I was severely let down. The tacos were actually disgusting. Tasted like grease. I would not recommend. And I thought it came with a little gumbo dip or something. Maybe that’s my misunderstanding tho.I should have stuck to the damn gumbo 😔0/10 would not recommend tacos .

So I'm visiting from Miami and a friend suggested this spot. I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED!! We ordered the chicken & sausage gumbo(amazing flavors), Catfish & fries (moist, flaky, loved the batter as it was not too much and still crunchy), and last but not least the Gumbo infused tacos. Now those tacos are NOT to be missed!!! WOW! The service was very prompt, friendly, and professional. The owner & chef Berry Thompson is a great guy. If you want so great food and a nice price be sure to head over to this spot.

Oh my the food was delicious, Poboy catfish was huge, as you see in the pictures, he was very pleased we'll have them add more spice, hubby is 6'5'' and it made him look small. I had the Philly on Garlic toast, flavor was excellent, if you want your garlic toast crispy ask them not to wrap in foil. The hush puppies were the best I've ever ate, the boudin balls or excellent crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, it really didn't need any dipping sauce. The Cajun fries were fresh and hit the spot, I normally don't rave over the fries but they were so good! Very friendly staff, we ate our food there. We had plenty of leftovers we'll be back!

We sat outside on the patio. Music playing big TV with football airing. Food was excellent. Spoke with Barry the owner who paid for my son's drink (Sprite) as we took pictures of the food brought to our table. So full as we munched on the fried pickles, Philly Steak with French fries. I had fried ribs, Gumbo Tacos with a large cup of Gumbo for dipping and eating with large shrimps. Had enough to take home. Quite a drive from Katy yet worth it. Wasn't crowded or busy just a flow of people up til we left. Fish only on Friday's for all the fish lovers.

Went here after craving some Gumbo while on campus. So glad I went! They even had some gumbo infused tacos which were delicious! The gumbo was good too.

I had the pleasure of eating here the other day. I am currently writing this review while I’m on my way back for another serving of this delicious gumbo. For years I have been trying to cultivate places around Houston in my own mind that can cook gumbo the correct way with okra. I believe I found my front runner. The gumbo while on the spicier side is packed with flavor and they are not shy about the protein portions in the meal. I also had the pleasure of speaking with one owner and he enlightened me to their rich history in the city. They are currently renovating their storefront, I cannot wait to see how it comes out. The convenience of its location also allows for you to really enjoy your meal with whatever snacks you’d like afterwards along with any drink you could think of. I hope their expansion goes well across the city and cannot wait for a location a little closer to me at home, though the location right next to my daughters university is perfect for this cold season coming up for a warm bowl of what feels like home-cooked food. I paid between 10 and $15 per person because we each wanted the larger size portion of the gumbo with shrimp included. Update: I had their boudin balls, DELICIOUS! The contrast of savory and sweet when using the sauce they give you. Based on the spice content of this food I highly recommend an ice sprite or sweet tea to compliments these Delicious meals.

I was overwhelmed by the great menu. I ordered the (3) tacos and a bowl of gumbo. The gumbo was heavy seasoned, and the tacos were cool. I also tried a friend's boudain ball. It was good but spicy. The dessert looked very appealing.
