"In Midtown/Hell’s Kitchen, the Generic Business-y Looking Bar is the rule. And that’s why Reunion Surf Bar is a nice breath of fresh air. Is the Hawaiian beach theme a little cheesy? Yes. But you and your coworkers just had to sit in a six hour meeting about property tax. You deserve to live a little. And after a couple “Dark Blizzards” (frozen Dark & Stormys), you’ll be very happy with your decision." - katherine lewin, hillary reinsberg
"Sure you can stick a couple surfboards on the wall when you’re California dreamin’ in the middle of Brooklyn, but Williamsburg’s Surf Bar offers a little more of an escape. It has a few beach shacks in the back, lots of trees, and wall-to-wall sand floors. That’s really all it takes to make this bar and restaurant feel fun, but to round out the experience, they also serve tropical drinks and sizable fish tacos that arrive on a wood surfboard platter." - neha talreja, carina finn koeppicus, kenny yang, bryan kim

"Satiating a seaside seafood shack craving sans the trek to the beach is possible in the middle of Williamsburg, thanks to Surf Bar. Housed in the former Hurricane Hopeful space, there are a number of surfboards suspended from the ceiling, a menu with options like chowders, fried seafood, and grilled fish, plus a back patio with seating that even has sand. It’s a tiny but effective escape from reality, at least for the duration of a plate of seafood and a few cocktails." - Alexandra Ilyashov, Carla Vianna

"A surfing-themed bar in the middle of Midtown makes zero sense, but we welcome any place in the area that’s not overrun by guys in Rangers jerseys or tourists in I Heart NY tee-shirts. This subterranean tiki bar in Hell’s Kitchen serves solid bar food and cocktails, and they do Happy Hour, including $3 beers, till 8pm." - Matt Tervooren
