Surrey's Review - Lower Garden District - New Orleans - The Infatuation

"Every time we pass Surrey’s in the Lower Garden District, there’s a line. Even on weekdays. We’re here to tell you it’s worth the wait. You’ll smell the sauteeing New Orleans seasoning trinity of bell peppers, onions, and celery right when you walk in (and probably even waiting in line). Stay focused and get some french toast or the crab meat omelet, which is easily one of the best crab dishes in the city. It’s filled with avocado and brie, and topped with creamy lump crab meat sauce that sparks joy every time we spot it on our fork. Get a biscuit instead of toast with that, because it’s ideal for sopping up that sauce—it's moist but still dense enough to stand up to aggressive plate swabbing. Despite the lines, the food comes out quickly, you won’t feel rushed, and every other table is lingering and having fun." - Megan Braden-Perry

Really enjoyed the food and atmosphere here. The mushroom gravy is fantastic, and the corn beef hash was good quality and tasty. It has a very cool "New Orleans" vibe which was very cool. The location was very close to where I was staying which was nice too.

Amazing food, excellent service! Totally worth every penny. It has a real homey feel. I shared several dishes with my friends. I highly recommend the shrimp n grits and banana french toast.

If you do not make it here for the shrimp and grits, you are missing out! Being from the north, we thought we’d had shrimp and grits, NO, we had not. We are ruined for this dish any place else, but that’s ok...a reason to return. Do yourself a favor and make your belly HAPPY!

It was my best friends birthday and we wanted to dine somewhere we had never been. Im glad we chose this spot. The host was professional and accommodating; i particularly loved her blue n black hair. Our waitress was knowledgeable of the menu, hospitable and quick on her feet. (A young black lady whose name begins with D) I order the shrimp & grits. Bestie ordered the french toast. Yall!! When u go here u gotta try these dishes... soo good! Note: I don't usually eat French toast because i dont care for the soggy, doughy middle. This french toast is different. It has a light chrisp on the outside with banana foster inside. I'll be eating french toast now but only from here! Loved Surreys! The food and service was top notch I will be back

Love the place for healthy breakfast. It was close to the Airbnb we were staying in in town. It’s really hard to find simple healthy vegan options for breakfast in this town. I had a fresh juice and an out meal with soy milk. The staff was very friendly, young cool millennials! And they have seating outside. Cool place

We just enjoyed an amazing breakfast at Surrey’s Uptown. The four of us each had something different and we all enjoyed our meals thoroughly and shared with each other. Standouts were the biscuits and gravy and Pain Perdu, but the breakfast burrito and crab meat omelet were very yummy also. Service was perfect! Plenty of coffee refills that were definitely needed. Hostess was very accommodating, rearranging tables and chairs to best serve large groups. We loved it so much we’re planning to go back tomorrow! Don’t miss this wonderful restaurant!!!

Came back for the Shrimp & Grits cause they were so good the first time around! All of the staff was very attentive and friendly. I love this spot-Becoming a staple for every NOLA trip. The salmon scrambled eggs were so tasty, rich and fluffy. Paired with perfectly cooked and seasoned home fries and a warm buttery biscuit. Will return! Sometimes there can be a short wait to be seated but the Host is great and was able to seat all waiting in a reasonable time.
