Sushi Beluga (Playa Del Rey)

Fresh sushi at a reasonable price. We were travelling to the LA area from Ontario, Canada and were eager to try sushi in California. This place popped up on our radar and did not disappoint. The sushi is super fresh, great quality, customer service is very attentive and food came promptly. You can tell this place is busy and for good reason!

Cute little restaurant with inside and outdoor seating. The sushi was fresh, very delicious. The albacore and yellowtail belly are my favorite. The staff is prompt, very friendly. I really enjoyed the Miso Yellowtail, the bluefin toro was nice. Melts in your mouth.

Must try authentic sushi! So fresh and delicious. We had an older Asian lady as a waitress and she was hustling the service was great. The price was just right and I’ll definitely be coming back ☺️

It's a cozy small place. surprisingly, there was a wait to get a table. We tried the combo menu that got me chicken and a sushi roll. The quality felt okay. Not the freshest food I have tried in a sushi place. But this could be good for the price you paid as they added a soup and a small salad with the combo too.

Reason for visiting: buddy's birthday lunch Date/time of visit: Friday afternoon, ~1:30 PM Parking: in the adjacent lot; tight. not sure where else you can park if not in the lot. We were able to find parking in the lot but there's limited parking. Maybe better to Lyft (no Uber; I recommend Lyft since Uber started charging a freakin' nonsense "booking fee"; Lyft may too but saw it first with Uber 😀) Party size: 2 Environment/ambience: quiet; small place. We sat outside; little chilly but it was manageable. They have heat lamps outside too. Restroom was inside, all the way back; relatively clean. Service: was ok; came around few times. not sure they remembered we were there until we were ready to pay 😀 Food: had the 207, mixed sushi plate with salmon cut roll, rainbow roll and a Toro hand roll. Everything was pretty good with good flavor. Cost: ~$90 with tip Would I go back: Yup! 😀

My new favorite sushi spot in the Playa Del Rey area. Have tried several of the menu items and haven’t had a bad experience yet. The truffle hand rolls are so good!! Service is great and gave some great recommendations. Will be coming back, highly recommend 10/10. The service can’t be beat too, reason why I’m writing this and making the effort!

I’ve loved this place for many years—it’s always been my go-to for authentic sushi in Los Angeles. However, today’s experience was disappointing due to the poor service. I had to bring my own food from the kitchen because it was getting cold (I ordered baked salmon). I also requested a miso soup, which never arrived, even though other tables received theirs on time. When it came time to pay, the waiter didn’t say anything or acknowledge me, even when I thanked him. The ambiance and display remain incredible, and I hope this was just an off day. Please don’t let the quality of service decline, as this has always been one of my favorite spots.

Food: Fresh, quick, and delicious! The price point is similar to any other sushi spot on the west side. We ordered the #71! Service: The super kind waitress told us to also try the location in Long Beach. We didn't wait at all to be seated. There were only two tables open which is a great sign. Ambiance: Cozy but cramped! Definitely a take your friend to vent about life type of spot after a rough work day haha

I've been here once before and the sushi is GREAT. However, today I ordered my takeout at 12PM to pick up for 7:15PM. Arrived at 7:25PM to pick up my order and they said that it is not ready yet and that they will "text" us when it is ready.... even though it's 10 minutes past pick up time...? We waited 30 minutes after and at 7:45PM it is still not ready???? We went back to check to see what is going on AND apparently they forgot to do our order (LOL) and the aburi miso cod sushi that I ordered HOURS ago is sold out???? We ended up having our food ready at 8:07PM -- almost an hour after our pickup time. My goodness....what TERRIBLE service.

I appreciate sushi spots that are Japanese ran. I heard them speaking the language and knew I was in good hands. Ordered a sushi set because I was hungry and Saba because it's my favorite nigiri. After taking photos of the menus, I was intrigued by the Snowman nigori and asked for an order. Apparently three sizes. Ordered the small bottle and happy that I did, very delicious and went well with my meal. Enjoyed the music that they played: 90s Acoustic covers. Once I was done, I asked what their freshest nigiri was and sushi chef replied with my last order: red snapper. The waitress checked to see I wanted anything else. Unfortunately they don't have kakigori. Although I got a smile from the waitress saying, "kakigori sounds good!" Paid and left a nice tip. Told the sushi chef, "Gochisōsamadeshita" and had enthusiastic replies back from both the chef and waitress. Love it! Would highly recommend!

This is a really small cute place. Great for a date night. We typically order food to go from here and they always get the order correct. The staff is friendly. Sushi always tastes fresh.

Please please don't go here! I need this place to be hidden. The sushi is so fresh and delicious. Every bite leaves you wanting more. The authenticity of this restaurant is like none I've ever seen in Los Angeles. The lady that was waiting on us was spectacular. It's a hole in the wall feel will transport you to a small restaurant on the outskirts of Tokyo. If you go please save me a seat.

Food They had a variety of good looking menu options and I got the set option wherein I could 3 pick food options. I got the spicy scallop roll, gyoza, salmon teriyaki, and it also came with a side salad, rice, and miso soup, so for the price I think it was kinda worth it. The salmon teriyaki was pretty good, a bit overcooked imo but it wasn't too dry and the teriyaki sauce itself tasted good. The gyoza was nice and juicy in the middle. The spicy scallop roll I would not recommend. Prior to ordering it, the server already warned me that I would be spicy and I was fine with it since I like spicy. But each piece was filled with jalapeno so it was too spicy for the little amount of scallop you get that spice is all you get. overall, the place is okay, may come back to try other options Service/Ambiance Did not get to see the inside since they seated us outside. The server was nice and accomodating. We got our food pretty quickly as well so no complaints really on the service.

Despite having quite many sushi restaurants, admittedly I haven't had that many which I thought having good fusion sushi rolls. So still in search for it, giving Sushi Beluga a go. Parking would be bit tricky particularly on weekend as the place sat together with some other restaurants in the neighborhood, and the option most likely was street parking. The restaurant also was quite petite with some additional seats outside. Fortunately it's only two of us so at least better wait time (though wouldn't call it quick). The place looked very busy on our visit with plenty of people dined in as well as bunch of to-go bags stacking. We tried few dishes from different sections on the menu, starting with the Crispy Mushroom stuffed with Kani and Spicy Tuna. It's a great mix of crispy and chewy texture and I loved the extra kick from the spicy sauce. The Baked Salmon Roll came next with decent balance between the rice and stuffing, which was usually my top requirement when it came to sushi roll. The sauce was peculiar yet succulent being creamy but complemented by tangy hint. Feeling like going for one more, Unagi Nigiri was the pick as we had salmon and tuna already. It's awesome that the unagi came in great size with just bit of rice, exactly how I wanted my nigiri. The sauce was also yum, and I could see myself having this again next time. Overall would call it worth being an option for sushi rolls in the west of LA.

Found me a spot close to home. Know what that means ... it'll be where I go to get my fix. My fix of some uncooked dead seafood! Been on a Japanese kick as of late - getting my gut ready to be in Japan. Two weeks from today. So, was looking for Sushi/Sashimi one evening and couldn't believe I hadn't heard of this place before. And if ya know me - ya know I was on my way there to try ... There's a small lot - and when I arrived there were spots available. But, I had parked on the street because when I got to the area, a primo spot was available so I pulled in and walked over. Free. The lot too. Don't know about time restrictions - but didn't look for signs. Service was excellent. I'll probably spell this wrong but her name is Taori. Rhymes with Sorry. From Nagoya. Attentive. Friendly. Polite. Spoke a little about Japan - all the while taking care of other customers as well. And the food - well, see the pics. Couple of beers. Sake. A few appetizers and an assortment of Sashimi. Enjoyed all of it. And I mean all of it. From the cuts of the Sashimi to the Seawood Salad. If I had to pick something I didn't like - it would be the Baked Shitake with Scallops. Not that it was bad - I would have liked it if the scallops were baked a little more. More of a preference. And if you haven't guessed by now, this is on my "I'll definitely be back" list. May not be everyone's cup of tea but it just hit all the right notes for me.

Went here with my daughter on a Wednesday night. It's in a little strip mall with a small, crowded parking lot, so I was glad we got there early. We were so hungry, we forgot to take pictures but we had miso soup, tuna on crispy rice, mixed tempura, and a specialty roll. Everything was very good. Honestly, food wise, it wasn't anything special. There are a lot of sushi restaurants in SoCal that offer similar fare at comparable prices. But there was definitely a hole in the wall, mom and pop charm about this little restaurant. It is small and quaint, but the owners take pride in their establishment and are so friendly. We definitely would return if we were in the area.

The sushi itself is great. Unfortunately the service was really bad and our server was rude. As for the food the lemon roll was good and #733 (I think) was phenomenal.

I will definitely be coming back here! The fish quality is very good and pricing is fair. They also have a variety of hot dishes you can get which were really good. The tuna sampler had 4 unique nigiris all so good. The 3 item premium combo was $30 and we got it with sushi chef choice of 5 nigiri, salmon avocado roll, and mixed tempura. It also comes with miso soup, salad, rice, and pickled cucumbers. So worth it!!! Service was good. Restaurant was small on inside and very hot unfortunately so I recommend sitting outside.

Since this sushi place opened myself and my family go and eat at an outdoor table or inside or we take it to go and enjoy it in our home the very very best thing about this sushi is that it's absolutely fabulous. I really haven't had any sushi that can compare and I've eaten it all over the world. I'm 78 years old. I think I've been eating sushi for at least 58 years. There's never been even one piece that wasn't absolutely delicious from the dipping sauces to the ginger to the soup to their regular sake. You just can't go wrong. Enjoy.

Really good quality fish at this restaurant. When we got here, they used the old school system of adding your name to a wait list so plan ahead for that part! Mainly ordered nigiri including toro toro and yellowtail. Each piece was extremely tasteful. The toro toro melts in your mouth and the yellowtail tasted like butter. Ordered a few sushi roles (one crab and one spicy tuna) and the quality of the sushi rice really stood. The rolls here are also fairly priced which is a big plus in terms of value. Finished off with a classic red bean mochi that tastes like your typical ice cream mochi. All the staff here were very friendly and accommodating. Will definitely be coming back!

We stumbled upon this sushi spot one day and have not turned back. The amount of high quality fish you can get for the price is unbeat. The service is always top notch and you never have to wait too long. Highly recommend.

THIS PLACE IS 10/10 - my favorite sushi place in LA The quality of nigiri is to die for, it's just so damn good. I always usually get the salmon nigiri assortment because I just love it and it's so delicious. The salmon sashimi is so good as well, the quality is just so good!! Not pictured but I've tried a couple other items that I recommend such as the yellow tail carpaccio, baked green mussels, crispy rice with spicy tuna avocado and ANY of the aburi nigiri's (yommmm)

Excellent sushi & sashimi and very prompt service! They also have gluten free soy sauce & ponzu sauce. Will return.

The sushi was okay, made in a rush maybe. My order was a bit wrong & When I arrived they said they lost my order & they just seemed disorganized which sucked because I felt if they didn't make my order such last minute, It would have been better. I wasn't really satisfied and I didn't finish my food, just tossed.

What a lovely experience at this beautiful establishment. Definitely a hidden gem. Excellent customer service with extremely friendly vibes. I could taste the freshness of the sushi. I will definitely return for more great sushi!

Sushi Beluga is a great neighborhood sushi spot. Their menu offers a mix of traditional and modern offerings. I really like the aburi sushi - seared on the outside, still raw on the inside, and warm. The service is friendly and fast.

This place never disappoints. We are always welcomed when we arrive. It's always great service. zits small yet always crowded which is a good sign. Not much fit ambiance but it's clean and comfortable. They do have outside seating. No reservations required. Food is always excellent. They definitely know sushi. The menu is like a novel, there's so much to choose from. My favorite appetizer are the green mussels. They are so delicious. 1 order is 2 mussels, so we always order 2 orders. A local hidden gem. Unable to make reservations, but they did get us seated quickly. Went here with a couple and their daughter for my wife's birthday. Ended up walking to the place, but it does have plenty of parking and surrounded by other bars and restaurants. The sushi and bowls were all good. We were quickly served and our server took good care of us and individual needs. We couldn't quite tell how the ambience was like inside since we sat outside. Overall, wouldn't mind coming back here again when we're in the area.

This is my favorite sushi place. It is an authentic Japanese sushi restaurant with fresh fish. I love the sushi platters, everything in it is fresh and the rice is always very well prepared.

To top things off, I got food poisoning after. Currently still ill. Can't reach any management to at least avoid others from getting sick.

My all time favorite sushi place The chef is from Japan They treat you like family The fish is sooooo fresh and tasty The Hamachi..crudo is my favorite I love the crab rolls Toro is divine My advice is to ask him what to order It's very tiny so it's hard for get a table I suggest lunch then go walk by the beach .

This place is now one of our favorite sushi places in Playa and Marina. We have been here before and decided to try it again because our first experience was great. I cannot say enough literally every single thing here is great! We ordered the #808 and substituted the egg for salmon rolls. The service here was above par and Osamu our waiter was working solo! He literally was handling everything , multiple orders , customers etc. our service was fast and polite and he got everything correct. We also ordered vegetable rolls and spicy edamame, as well as hot sake. The food here is Fresh and delicious and will for sure be coming back. We sat outside the last time we were here and they have space heaters because it was a little chilly outside , this time we sat outside as well and it was perfect. This is a very small place but do not be fooled by the small size, I give this place a 10/10!!

Food was excellent - we got the sashimi and crunchy dragon roll, and loved every bit of it And the best part was our server who was so kind and helpful, and gave us the best experience. Definitely go here if you're in the area!

Hidden gem tucked away in a small shopping plaza. The restaurant could easily go unnoticed-- until you try it. Despite its unassuming appearance the food is outstanding. Forget the decor, focus on the food and hospitality. They offer a full range of sushi and sashimi, alongside combo bowls including ones with cooked protein options. Delicious and satisfying!

Sushi Beluga is now my new go-to sushi spot in the area. I highly recommend the salmon sample if you're a salmon lover. Each sushi had big pieces of fish and they were all so fresh and tender. Great rolls and apps here as well! The servers are super friendly and the restaurant just had a great environment. My one complain is that service gets extremely slow when you are waiting for your check. My friend and I waited 20 minutes to pay, which I thought was a bit ridiculous.

Cute little local sushi shop. Service is great and the food came out FAST and fish is fresh. We barely had room on our little table. Highly recommend: - Baked snow crab hand roll - surprised me how good this was! - Salmon skin roll (wasn't on the menu, but you can ask for it) - Crunchy dragon roll (dragon roll with the crunchy bits on top and doesn't have a tempura in the roll, which we preferred) - #703 aburi salmon, miso salmon, aburi yellowtail - miso salmon was basically melting in my mouth

Love love love!!! The fish quality is always top notch, regardless if it's dine in or takeout. I love getting their sushi platters as there is so much variety and is a very fair price. Service is always friendly and quick, even on busier days. I usually do take out because the dine in is a bit of a small space and can get packed on busy days but is always great for a quick lunch.

This is some of the best sushi I've ever had in Los Angeles! Seriously. This place is a total hole in the wall located in a strip mall, but holy cow is their fish fresh! The staff is very friendly, and they have great sake tastings / flights too which is really fun since I'm not really a sake drinker--this place has definitely gotten me into it. I would highly recommend the salmon lemon roll, but also their uni is to die for if you're lucky enough to get some before they sell out. They get it in fresh daily from Santa Barbara. Their crispy rice and tempura veggies are outstanding. This is the third time I've got there in a month...I just can't get enough!

Great sushi and friendly service! When my go-to spot went downhill, I was looking for a new place and it looks like this might be the one!

One of my favorite hidden gems for sushi in West LA is this delightful spot. The sushi here is consistently fresh, bursting with flavor, and expertly prepared. Every visit is a treat, and I truly enjoy the inviting atmosphere that complements the incredible dishes.

Had a craving for sushi and I wanted to look up a new spot to try. Found this local spot on Yelp while driving around. It's in a small shopping plaza with a post office, cafe, and bar/grille on the corner. The service was good and friendly wait staff. You can eat inside or outside. Parking is ample but oddly oriented! We did takeout and the food was ready in approx 20 mins. Prices were on par with other sushi places. The sushi was fresh and really good. My only complaint is they put all of the sushi (cold and hot) in one container. Overall, good spot and will definitely return when in the area.

Such a great Time, we arrived at 9pm the wait staff was very courteous and sat us right away. Food was amazing and they let us dine until 1030!!! Highly recommended !!

Love this little gem tucked away in PDR. Sushi is always fresh and tasty and the prices are reasonable. They are open for lunch so I'll sometimes drop in after a beach walk along the bike path. Servers are always kind and food comes out quickly. It's a tiny spot where you can sit inside or outside. Love that it's close to the beach and not far from me.

Another superb dinner at Sushi Beluga. It's been over a year since I've been here and yet the service is as warm and friendly and proactive as ever. As soon as I sat down, they brought water for my dog and turned on the heat lamp without any prompting from me. I was happy to see that as the night wore on, they grew busier. They should be busy for how good they are! The service slowed a little bit as they got busier, but no matter for me. Throughout my meal, they were courteous and kind and responsive. The sushi is delicious. The service is top notch. This remains my favorite spot for sushi in LA.

This has become one of our favorite local sushi places since we moved to Westchester last year. The food is always fresh and delicious, and the staff are friendly and efficient.

The sashimi and sushi combination has to be the best I've had in a really long. Quality 5 stars on its own Service is friendly and tells you the different types of sashimi and sushi that was chosen by the Chef. Venue has both indoor and outdoor sitting. I will be coming back. Parking lot is small and shared with other businesses. Im sure there is residential street parking near by.

Friday lunch- sat indoors and were the only table while most others sat outdoors which is right near the parking lot. Got the chirashi which was very tasty- thick cuts of salmon, yellow fish, octopus, fatty tuna, tamago. Also spicy tuna and salmon roe. Rice well seasoned. Others got the combo with spicy scallop which has a tempura jalapeño, salmon avocado and premium sashimi. Nicely presented. Server seemed a bit flustered as she was only one but professional and friendly. Ambience is very casual. Enough parking on weekday lunch.

Mmmmmmm, I told my lunch companion that I think this must be what sushi tastes like in Japan!! It's so hard to describe how fresh and beautiful the fish is here. I've eaten some very fine sushi elsewhere, but the difference is clear, this sushi is *magnitudes* better. Sorry to gush on and on, you must experience it to know what I mean. It's a tiny place, we went midweek around 1 and got a table inside. It's not fancy, but once your food is in front of you it won't matter a bit. I honestly don't know if I'll ever be happy with sushi anywhere else.

Rolls were delicious! Baked salmon was the best roll for us. The price was very reasonable between $9-15 per roll. The service was excellent :) all the staff were very attentive and kind

This place is incredible. I come here a couple times a year when I'm in the area for work. The sushi is delicious, the staff is attentive, and it has a nice and relaxed atmosphere. I always get the salmon Crudo which is a style I had never had before coming here, and then usually a sashimi assortment which is a lot of food (the long flight makes me extra hungry). Highly recommend and while I know there are lots of great restaurants nearby, I find myself consistently returning here.

The food was absolutely deliciously fresh. Food came out quickly. Staff was extremely attentive and nice. My husband had a Japanese beer, also had amazing flavor. Would definitely return and recommend 9.5/10 to be strict on the rating

This is right now the best sushi establishment that I have been to in West LA. Thr quality is superb, service freindly and welcoming, and pricing is fair.

Yay! Now I have a favorite sushi place near the beach :) what a win! Thank you Yelp for leading me here. Fresh fish. Some rolls are costly but you get what you pay for (higher end) great quality for sure. Would recommend to literally everyone I know. The yuzu roll, crunch dragon roll, and miso black cod sushi were some of my favorites. We were totally obsessed and cannot wait to return. Thank you Sushi Beluga! Simply fantastic. You WOWed us!
