What an unforgettable dining experience we had at sushi by bou. This is a *private omakase dinner* experience and it is unmatched. You will be with about 6-8 others to enjoy. Skyye and her team were fantastic! The chef personally prepares each course right in front of you, curating a unique menu based on seasonal ingredients and your preferences. Highlights include melt-in-your-mouth toro and delicacies like uni, paired perfectly with sake. I highly recommend getting the sake flight! It includes all of the different types of sake and truly is a great deal. Also, if you love caviar I would definitely recommend it for the price of $100 that includes assortment of items that pairs well with it. The intimate setting, exquisite presentation, and attentive service make this dinner more than a meal. I will be back and will be bringing friends.

We went to Sushi By Bou (West Loop) for their BOGO deal. Overall, this is a decent omakase spot for the price point. Portions were small but quality was acceptable. The staff were very friendly and Chef Bank delivered! We drank sake on-the-house with the chefs and that was fun!

The ambiance is inspired by the Hip Hop Era of the 90s, with graffiti-covered walls, playlists dedicated to the best of the ’90s Hip Hop, and murals of Chicago Hip Hop legends. There are 10 seats to the counter and they have a lounge to hang out and enjoy craft cocktails and the great music! I really liked the options they served during the omakase and I got the Big Mac after. Soo good! I’d come back! It was a very cool experience!

For my birthday my wife booked the 17 course omakase here. We've enjoyed Sushi everywhere we go and had never had a private more personal experience like this. The staff was terrific and dedicated to getting us comfortable and ready to indulge in their excellent food and drinks. My wife is handicapped and in a wheelchair. The space isn't very compatible but the staff went above and beyond to make it work. I had an old fashioned and their signature highball as a drink. Both were excellent and handcrafted by the very attentive bartender. The actual sushi was possibly best I've ever had. Every bite fresh and often paired with only 1 or 2 twists. My favs were the Hotate(scallop), Hamachi and the Wagyu UNI. An excellent experience all around.

This is a place for real sushi lovers. We enjoyed our upgraded omakase dinner and really loved it. Chefs were very friendly and told us the details about every piece of sushi.

One of the best & most fun experiences I’ve had! We celebrated our one year wedding anniversary here and so glad we did! We went to the Sushi By Bou in West Loop at The Emily Hotel. The vibe of the room was amazing. We did the 12 course Omakase and it did not disappoint. My favorites were the Toro, Bincho and Wagyuni. You cannot go wrong with any of the cocktails but my absolute favorite one is the Yuzu Honey Bee 👏🏼 Chef Win was our chef for the night and he made the experience all the better. I cannot wait to go back and try the 17 course 🍣

What a cool experience! It was my first time experiencing an omakase and I enjoyed how it still felt pretty casual while providing some high quality bites. The salmon and scallop were my favourites. The staff were attentive and the drinks were good as well. The whole experience is pretty quick, we were out in about 50mins. Overall a cool place to check out!

Omakase by Sushi by Boy offers a unique and hipster twist on traditional omakase, with an innovative tasting menu that doesn't disappoint. The $70 promotion for two makes it an unbeatable deal, especially considering the creativity in the dishes. Highlights from the tasting included torched bincho and an exciting wagyu with uni combination. My personal favorites were the ikura (salmon roe) and hotate (scallop), which were exceptionally fresh and flavorful. However, the entrance was a bit hard to find, giving the place a speakeasy-like vibe. Once inside, though, it added to the charm of the experience, making it feel like a hidden gem. If you're looking for a modern take on omakase with excellent value, this is definitely worth a visit!

Sushi by Bou offers a great omakase experience for newcomers who haven't had the experience before. I took advantage of their $70 BOGO deal this summer. The space channels an old school speakeasy atmosphere, which I respect their dedication to the bit but finding restaurant was a tricky. Shoutout to the helpful front desk at the Emily Hotel! I appreciate how casual the whole occasion was. Our chef even moved to give me a better angle to take pictures. Each serving was fresh and it was fun chatting with the chef in between courses. I admittedly have a big appetite and had to grab a bite after my meal. Sushi by Bou does offer an al carte menu for anyone interested at the end of the experience but the venue is small (12 seats) so my friend and I wanted to try something new afterwards.

This was my second time coming to this location. The first time we came the chefs and sushi was fantastic and the whole experience was wonderful. Today the rice seamed a bit off, it was a bit chewy/mushy and almost too hot. It threw off the whole taste of the courses. I was going to mention the taste in rice but wasn't sure who to tell as the courses go so fast. The chefs were still great.

Love the 90's vibes. We did the BOGO omakase deal and it was so worth it. For a La carte pieces, we got the Big Mac (wagyu, toro, scallop & uni - however they ran out of uni this night and did additional toro as a substitute) and maguro. I can always count on Sushi by Bou for a good quality omakase at an affordable price. Drinks: - old fashioned pearl - kyusho cove - I'm not a big drinker but I enjoyed this drink! Alcohol is subtle and it's a good fruity cocktail I'm allergic to raw shrimp but the chef was accommodating to provide me a different fish.

Such a cool concept. We love Omakase and had not had one in Chicago since moving here. Our experience at Sushi by Bou was incredible. We loved that it is a small venue which felt more intimate. And the decor was super cool. The sushi was super fresh and it was so fun trying things we would have not even thought about before. Perfectly made in front of you and the perfect bite size. The servers were also really attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. I would love to come back and also try their other venues.

Food: 12 courses is not going to feel any guilty because each piece is about half size of the regular sushi. The rice might stayed a little bit longer when we arrive, the bite getting bitter. I'd give a 3/5 on food. Service: our sushi master is nice and patient, repeat everything that what we can't hear from the busy background music. One of the server seems not well trained and not familiar with the menu, or just double check the price before you order. So 3/5 for the service. Ambiance: this is the most unique omakase experience I ever had, located in the hotel, 10-12 seat in total with a hip hop style interior, escape from the quiet mode to a enjoyable vibe. 5/5 star Price: $100/2ppl Total 3.5/5

got the friends and family deal $70 for two 12-course omakase. it was a fun experience and ambiance. we brought our 1 year old daughter and she had a blast. the staff was very accommodating and brought us a high chair from the hotel. they also let us wait in the space even though i think the groups typically wait in the hotel area. my favorite was the miso cod and my husband liked the fatty tuna. we got another fatty tuna a la carte but it was $12. we also got the highball and old fashioned and both were good and not too sweet. I would go for the experience but don't expect to get full.

This sushi bar serves up omakase with a speakeasy vibe - a bit of a hip hop setting. I made reservations here a week in advance and made used of their limited BOGO deal - $70 for 2 people (normal price $65/person for 12 pieces). This review will be based on normal price as most often, people won't have this promo. We got a reservation for 5pm and got seated shortly after. I got the shiso leaf drink that is vodka based that is really good and fairly strong. For the 12 pieces, they have the menu written on the board on one side of the sushi bar so it is really friendly for people that are fairly new to omakase. However, the pieces are tiny and so 12 pieces alone are far from enough for a sufficient meal. It is more like snack, so people would tend to pay extra for 5 more pieces for their "bougie" omakase, and can also pay extra for a la carte pieces of items off the omakase. If you want a meal that is sufficiently filling, you are going to end up paying about the same or just a little less than a higher quality omakase, but the quality here is not as good. The quality of the fish here is good but not amazing, just sufficient for a casual omakase. Additionally, we didn't really get the value since they didn't have uni as part of the menu so instead they gave us more toro as part of the surf and turf. They also did not wipe the ikura juices off the plate for subsequent courses so all the other pieces have ikura juice in it which messes up getting the full flavor of the subsequent pieces which is a no no. The plus of this place is that there is not much commitment needed - if this is your first omakase then I would recommend since it is affordable and not much food. Also, the experience is one of the fastest - for our 12 pieces, it took us only 40 minutes from getting seated to paying the bill and leaving the restaurant. You get what you pay for.

I would suggest going early on in the week, not on a Sunday, as they will run out of otoro and serve chutoro. Overall, it was a nice evening experience!

Sushi by Bou at the Emily Hotel was a great experience. The room is intimate and has a hip-hop vibe. 2 chefs create each piece of the 12 course meal in front of you. The chef we had was kind and explained each piece before service it to us. My top three pieces were the miso cod, surf and turf, and scallop. I will definitely be going back.

Super cool space, u didn't realize how intimate it was! Service was amazing! Super quick and the chef did a great job explaining everything! I did the 17 course boujie lunch! I left feeling full, each piece was unique. I loved the pieces that had the pickle wasabi! We were in and out within an hour!

Great vibe in terms of music and food. Total speakeasy. However, a few things: 1. They started late, and rushed us. Literally was being asked to move to the sofa area before I could finish eating. 2. A bit heavy on the Wasabi, I had asked for less a few rolls in. 3. The host was also extremely loud at the start when welcoming the table, almost militant. Food was excellent, and priced really well. I will give it another try, maybe just an off night. PS. Headbands were cute, should have handed them out earlier and let people have fun wearing them during dinner.

Not sure, but maybe it was the day (edit: have gone again and it was similar...). Wanted to ask the chef, but the fish was very small - maybe it was cause we just did the standard course? Almost kid size IMO. I've been to sushi by bou in Gold Coast and in nyc and it's a clear difference. Overall ambiance and service was great however

Service was top notch! Joe, Tashon, Chef win, Chef bank, Jackie, and of course Skye - treated us so well. There was a problem with the reservation so 2 people couldn't join us, poo on the reservation team, so aside from that, the food and drinks and service were perfect. I recommend the sake flight for all the fun flavors

Insane value. With a promo code, you can get $60 for a 17-course lunch. Our chef didn't really interact with us much (maybe his English wasn't good?), so it was a little different from what I expected from my first counter service omakase. Starting with the bad: wasabi was pretty inconsistent. Some pieces exploded my nose while others were fine. The good: I don't want to have to rattle off all of the courses, but pretty much every course was excellent. Really cool and unique underground hip-hop ambiance. This is the best deal on omakase around. Highly recommend!

I visited this omakase restaurant for my boyfriend's birthday, and unfortunately, the experience left much to be desired. Upon arriving, we sat at the bar and were immediately asked what our go-to drinks were before we even had a chance to look at the menu (we had wanted sake). I mentioned a vodka soda, and my boyfriend said old fashioned. Without confirming if we wanted drinks, the bartender started making them for us. When the drinks appeared to be done, we took them--only for the bartender to get upset because my boyfriend's drink apparently wasn't finished, lacking an orange peel. His attitude was unnecessary and off-putting. The omakase itself was great, but what was advertised as an hour-long experience was rushed and only lasted 35 minutes. To top it off, we were asked to leave our seats and finish our drinks on the couches, which made us feel like we were being ushered out prematurely. As it was my boyfriend's birthday, I had mentioned it in the reservation notes, hoping the restaurant would do something to make it special. Instead, when the waitress acknowledged my note, we were given four mochi ice creams with a candle. Nice gesture, right? Wrong. When I got the bill, not only were we charged $20 for each drink we didn't actually order, but we were also charged for the mochi ice cream! Most places offer a complimentary birthday treat or at least a drink, but here we were forced to pay for it all. For an experience that only lasted 50 minutes and cost $300, we both left feeling disappointed and taken advantage of. It was supposed to be a special night, but the rushed service, unnecessary charges, and unprofessional behavior from the bartender completely ruined it for us.

Super cool spot! It's super tucked away and hidden and you literally almost think that you're walking into a broom closet when you finally find the place! Lol Regardless, the experience is pretty dope you get walked through all of your Omakase courses but I loved how you got a welcome shot of sake! Each course taste unique and any questions we had, our chef didn't mind answering. The place is super tiny, very cool in decoration but small, so yes, it can be rushed. I think they should space the reservations out a little better- I think my group had to wait about 20/30 mins after our reservation time to be seated. There was little time to linger at the end, hence being rushed, before they were saying you had to go. The hostesses/waitresses were super nice though! Give it a try just to experience it once! Enjoy!

Service was outstanding the chefs made wonderful reccomendations including their secret menu item ' The BIG MAC' Ambiance was killer and its a small space with limited seatings every night. Perfect for a sexy date night experience and great for talking !!

Really good value for some good sushi in West Loop! My friends and I came for a $60 lunch omakase. There were 17 courses in total and I was very full by the end. Out of the 17 courses, I liked the hamachi, the maguro, and the otoro courses the best. The fish tasted so fresh and the seasonings were very unique- from yuzu, to truffle, to simply perfectly balanced soy sauce. The other courses were good too, but not as good as those three.. The one thing I wish they could have done better with is the wasabi to sushi ratio. Some pieces were quite heavy on the wasabi- so much that it tasted like an unpleasant surprise. The good part is that these didn't happen too often. Our chef didn't really take the initiative talk to us a lot, but he was friendly when spoken to. He was quite informative and explained what each piece was well.

Sushi by Bou was a fantastic experience! Located in the Emily Hotel, this hidden spot is great for omakase. We did a 9pm reservation for restaurant week - the menu was the 12 piece omakase. The space is located near the back of the hotel - the door had their branding on it so it was fairly easy to find. We waited in the nice hotel lobby space since we arrived a little early, but we got drink orders taken and were sat right before our start time of 9. The staff were extremely welcoming and the service was exceptional. The ambiance was my favorite as this West Loop location has a fun hip-hop flair with the best music! Our chef was great and it felt like each piece of sushi gradually got better and better. My favorites were the Yellowtail, Cod, Spotted Prawn, Scallop, and Salmon. The Kyusho Cove cocktail was also refreshing! Will be coming back!

I absolutely adore this place. Been here 3 times already. I usually do the 12 piece omakase and add the Big Mac. The sushi is fresh and melts in your mouth. It's rare for me to actually like pretty much every piece. Uni can be very hit or miss, but this place hasn't failed me yet. From the food, service, to the overall vibes, I'd give everything 10/10. Great place to go with a group of friends. Can't wait to go back again!

It was kinda confusing to find, and if you arrive early they will sit you in the hotel lobby while they get your drink orders. The cocktails were very creative and crafted well. Would totally come back for omakase again!

Wow. This was fantastic. I'm a beginner at omakase but I could not have had a better experience, drinks were great, very intimate setting, and our chef did a wonderful job. We got the bougie experience which was a good decision but not necessary because most of my favorite pieces ended up being a part of the regular menu. We splurged on a Big Mac and it might have been the best bite of food of my life. If I could afford to eat this every day I would.

It's a cool vibe with hip hop music, fresh sushi, and the most amazing hostess with the mostest Sky! She will keep your drinks flowing and show you a good time. Amazing service. The Omakase is only $60 for 10 pieces and they get you in and out in 60 mins. The fish is fresh and they season it with all sorts of flavors from yuzu to miso to truffle salt. Every single piece was heaven! I would definitely go back!

Cute, affordable omakase in the Emily Hotel in Fulton Market. Follow the signs, it's a little hidden away and that's part of its charm. The chefs are nice, it's an intimate space and you can chat with them as they present each course. Fish is fresh and flavorful! Not the most filling but then again the base course is only $60. I recommend as an easy and tasty option in the area!

Amazing. Simply amazing. I literally have no qualms for this place at all. The sushi chefs are true artists and their food takes you on such a beautiful adventure. Each piece was an explosion of flavors and textures. It's crazy to think how much can go into a one bite of food. The ingredients are so fresh and so pungent. Literally everything they created was a 10/10. I highly recommend getting the boujie experience and getting the mochi plate at the end it's slightly more expensive, but very much worth it. Come here for a unique date night, celebration, or fun hang out. At this location there are only 8 seats total I believe, so get a reservation early on. And make sure to get there early, as they don't start the experience until everyone is there.

Had the best time here! We did the 12 course 60 minute omakase and it was so fun! We started off with some sake and their Kyusho Cove cocktail which was so refreshing! Some of our favorite bites were the toro with truffle salt, salmon with yuzu sauce and the wagyu uni! Definitely can't wait to come back for the 17 course omakase!

The best omakase experience in Chicago! So far, the hubby and I have been here twice, both times have been amazing! One with our west coast besties while they were visiting last summer and for our 2nd, wedding anniversary in March this year. Our first time with Chef Ou (apologies if I spelled this wrong) and second time with Chef Ump. Skye and Stephanie were so nice and made the experience so fun!! We can't go back to our normal AYCE sushi anymore after going to Sushi by Bou. We've done the Bougie experiences both times and it never disappoints. The 90s hip hop music also adds to the experience, as it is our vibe. Please get the Big Mac, if you can, it is so worth it! See you guys next time! This was an amazing experience! The boujee omakase was the perfect birthday dinner, everything was so fresh. They had some great cocktails as well and I enjoyed how fun the servers were and how chill the vibes were. Definitely get a reservation and check this place out.

We had a blast celebrating at the speakeasy omakase inside the Emily Hotel. From a price point, this is much more affordable than others around the city, and we were pleasantly surprised by the quality for the cost. The room had a cool underground hip hop vibe. The chef did a good job explaining each piece, but it was less conversation about the whole design of the menu than we typically get at an omakase experience. We opted for the Bougie 17-piece package which was the right move. Highlights for me were the scallop, surf and turf, spotted prawn, mackerel, and the Big Mac, which is an upgrade piece when your meal is finished. (Pro tip: you wait in the lobby for them to get you at your reservation time, so get drinks at the bar while you wait)

Literally the best experience out in west loop recently. Chef Win was amazing, even giving us amazing a la carte recommendations. Joe, Jashon, and Skye are the BEST hosts! Sake recommendations, good hospitality, the most AMAZING playlist... could you ask for more?? You need to go here!

I can't get enough. Let's talk speakeasy. To find this place, you go into a hotel, look for a corridor, walk through a ton of graffiti, look for another corridor with old-school hip-hop playing on the other side, and into a perfectly crafted setting that takes you back to boomboxes and stereos. The chefs are lively and the food is phenomenal. Chef Navakun transpired the setting with his charm. He has a way of drawing you into the scene and appreciating the food when it's at its best. If you get distracted after he hands you a warm-just-seared fish, he will remind you that you are missing the best part of the meal. Eat what is served, and you won't be disappointed. I loved this place so much, I came back a few nights after. I'm a creature of habit when I find something I love, I must have it again. You should def give this place a chance. Make reservations, it's worth it.

Yes, this is a small space but the food was great. Unlike most omakase/fine dining places, you pay for the entirety at the end of the meal. Since they have reservations so close to one another, they do have to rush you out to get the next group of people in but they only have one toast machine to pay. I feel the most sorry for the chef because food allergies in the other party really slowed him down and both parties had the bougie experience that had more pieces. It's the best bang for your buck omakase I've been to. My favorite was the hand roll with truffle salt and the chopped tuna was a close second. Most of your photos are going to be blurry unless you turn on flash (but you also risk temporarily blinding the chef which I wouldn't suggest). Music is a little loud and maybe I'm too young because I didn't know any of these songs.

Sushi By Bou is a concept restaurants of sorts located inside the emily hotel. There are several locations across the city with different themes, this one seemed inspired by hip hop and its icons like Biggie Smalls, Tupac, and Jay Z. Which is quite the choice for a neighborhood as white as West Loop. The space is dimly lit and has a mural of Biggie Smalls and also lyrics painted in graffiti style all over the walls. There are also iconic Chicago rappers painted on the wall behind the bar. As expected, the playlist bumps a lot of 90s/early 2000s rap. A VERY small space (~14 bar seats) a reservation is required for either their 12 course sashimi experience or an expanded experience. You get to watch the chefs make your rolls and try them one by one. All flavorful and creative. It's definitely a fun experience. But the service left a little to be desired, for now, I'll chalk it up to newness kinks. I've been to other small restaurants in the city, and even in this neighborhood, but for some reason this space felt more cramped than others and there was not a recognition at how frustrating the closeness could cause a bunch of strangers forced to be in the space. When we arrived, the chefs were finishing up an experience with other parties, so we waited. This was no problem, until four other couples came in after us, and also had to wait in the same small space. Just not ideal. When we were seated, the staff was kind enough to take our coats and hang them up since there wasn't a ton of space, but upon finishing our meal, we were told we needed to pay before we could get our coats, which was really off-putting. I'm sure it was just, a misunderstanding, but not the greatest first time experience. Bottom line: food was great, but like with many concept restaurants that use Black culture as a selling point, they lack a fundamental understanding of Black culture and instead are selling a watered down version in exchange for TikTok videos.

17 course omakase dinner was a great experience. The boujee package comes with a gold chain you wear during dinner and a few extra pieces compared to the classic 12 course. My partner and I tried three cocktails, all of which were delicious. It did feel a tad bit rushed since they had back to back reservations all night.

This is probably my third time to Sushi By Bou, but I've only been in NYC locations. However, I think this is my favorite location by far! We met so many cool people, our bartender was so cool as well as the bar manager. I forgot her name but she was a Saints fan! Sushi by bou never disappoints. Max and Ump were so fun and had such a good time with us even though we were their last reservation after working all day. Music was RnB/Hip Hop. I don't know if it's like that at every location but for every one I've been to, it's the same which I love. We took our friends here for their first omakase and they loved it so much! Sushi By Bou was my first omakase and I will keep recommending them! Sushi was also so fresh of course and I was so full by the end of it. It was $65 I think for the 12 course? And then we ordered the Big Mac of course, Sushi By Bou's specialty! Y'all def get it if you go!

Sushi by Bou was all around a great experience. The location at the Emily Hotel is definitely small and intimate. The sushi was fresh and I enjoyed almost every piece I was served. Although, the food was really flavorful, for $100 per person I didn't leave stuffed full of food. I would come back but I would like to try the other locations.

such an affordable omakase - will definitely be back! they've been doing a free bougie upgrade if you reserve for lunch (not sure how long) and honestly prefer a smaller, cozy group - plus you can go roam the city afterwards! food was sooo good we thought we'd be hungry after seeing the size of the nigiri but were surprisingly satisfied after 17 courses. the tuna and scallop... melts in your mouthhh not always a fan of uni/ikura because it can be fishy but they've got it down here, so yummy!! loved the vibe and music choice, and service was super kind. fyi - they're located off of an area inside the emily hotel so it can be confusing at first but just follow the signage and the front desk of the hotel kindly led us the right way

Gave three tries!l BUT probably done with this location. Attracted by price and proximity. Sadly, the price does not justify the quality even though I know it is a budget sushi Omakase. Too much Shari and neta is too thin.

A good place for beginner's Omakase. We had a reservation at 9PM and did not get seated until 9:25PM. The restaurant is very small and there was a very loud group seated on the couches. Thankfully they left halfway through our 12-course. In thirty minutes, we enjoyed our Omakase with my favorites being the spotted prawn, scallop, and miso cod. At the end, the servor told us that they were going to seat the next group and that they needed to clean up. With that experience, I would recommend coming here if you have not had Omakase before and if you are okay with a less than 1 hour experience.

I dined solo last night and I couldn't have asked for a better experience. From the moment I stepped through the door, the warm welcome set the tone for a great evening. Upon arrival, the host had patrons sit in a cozy waiting are before the omakase experience began. Upon entering the waiting area, everyone was greeted by the bartender, Skye. When I asked about mocktails, she not only informed me that they could make any cocktail into a non-alcoholic version, but also recommended the Shiso Southsider. I'm so glad I took her up on her suggestion; the drink was incredibly refreshing and delicious! I also just want to add that her understanding and non-judgmental approach when I opted for a non-alcoholic drink on my birthday made a significant impact on me. It may sound silly, but her thoughtfulness meant the world! Now, onto the main event-the omakase. Every single piece served was better than the previous. Chef Wu not only showcased his craft, but also accommodated to those with food allergies and restrictions-I felt like he went above and beyond to ensure everyone at the table could enjoy the experience. My favorite pieces were the Bincho, Hotate and the Toro. I am truly perplexed by any negative reviews because my entire dining experience was a solid 10/10. The attentive staff, including Skye , Chef Wu, and the host (sorry I didn't get her name!) made sure that everyone patron had a seamless and enjoyable evening. Oh, I almost forgot-I absolutely loved their playlist!! I'm already planning on returning with my friends.
