Top Sushi Omakase for Under $125 in NYC | Eater NY

"There are four omakase choices at this East Village serving a modern take on omakase. The smallest starts at $65 for 12 pieces of chef’s choice sushi. Choices then go up to $75 for the Dojo omakase (eight premium sushi and a king salmon hand roll), $95 for 15 pieces of chef’s choice sushi and a hand roll, and $125 for the chef’s choice of sushi and sashimi. Unlike more traditional omakase places, Sushi Dojo incorporates nontraditional elements such as foie gras, gold leaf, and truffle into some of its offerings. The ambiance — which resembles that of a house party more than that of a traditional, somber sushi joint — is more laid back and relaxed than that of many other places with comparable omakases in the city. Note: The $65 and $75 omakase choices aren’t available at the sushi counter." - Lorelei Yang

Service was fast and staff were amazing! Will visit again when I’m in the area. I enjoyed dining in on a calm rainy afternoon. The sushi tacos were good. But, the chicken pot stickers and one inch punch specialty rolls were dynamite! Note: Establishment is a hidden gem with limited parking. There’s a few indoor and outdoor seating spaces available.

Google
This placed is tucked in and you could drive right past it if you weren’t paying attention. Don’t let the size of the place deter you! It is small, with only 4 tables inside and a couple seats at the counter. There is also ample seating outside on a nice day. The tacos were delicious. Very different than anything I have ever had. They were messy and hard to eat. Very difficult to get a little bit of everything in one bite. The Shaggy roll was delicious and enough to share. The seaweed salad was a good portion. It had a snap to it and a sesame flavor. It was very refreshing. The dumpling were also good as well. The service was great and quick and everyone was super friendly. This is my second time coming here. Try the desserts! They are great.

Our visit was on Saturday at lunch time. Thankfully we got there at the beginning of the rush. There’s a lot of tables on the patio but it was too warm, so we sat at the bar. It’s limited seating inside and they ask the customers to kindly keep the meal to 30 mins. I love how they do that. The menu isn’t too big but we already knew sushi tacos were on the menu for us that day. We added an order of shrimp dumplings, one inch punch (delicious tuna), bang bang shrimp. They delivered it pretty quickly and it looked so spectacular I was afraid to take a bite. The sushi tacos had one of the best presentations I’ve ever seen. Well, the taste blew us away. First of all, that sushi taco was an explosion of taste on every bite. I could have eaten several more. They killed it with this!!! We loved the two sushi rolls because they casted fresh and had just the right amount of seasonings. This will be a new sushi go to for us. Even if we have to drive 25 minutes from Fort Worth. Just go early or you’ll sit outside.

Google
The BEST sushi TACOS!!! Highly recommend you let them order for you. I loved all the suggestions. Everything we ordered was very tasty and very well portioned. Sushi burritos are delicious especially with the sauce! Mix well and enjoy! We also enjoyed strawberry shortcake for dessert and it definitely hit the spot! We will be back for more!

Tucked away right off 114 & Southlake Blvd, this spot was buzzing when we arrived right in the middle of lunch. Lots of folks from nearby businesses filled the place, and while parking is a little tight, there’s street parking available if needed. It’s counter service here, with the Itamae’s busy behind the counter putting plates together quickly for the crowd. We grabbed a table inside, though there’s also a nice outdoor seating area. We kept it light and ordered the Sushi Tacos, Chicken Potstickers, and a couple of egg rolls. Everything came out within minutes and was fresh, hot, and flavorful. Overall, a really good experience—fast, tasty, and great for a casual lunch.

Google
I’ve experienced Sushi Dojo three times now, and every single visit has been a delight. This place strikes the perfect balance between inventive flair and classic reliability, something most restaurants try to do but rarely pull off. Their menu is a masterclass in blending Tex-Mex, American and Japanese cuisine, with creations like sushi tacos and burritos, sushi fries, orange chicken and excellent ice cream for dessert. Each of these are just as exciting as they are delicious. Yet, they never lose sight of traditional favorite rolls, making it easy for sushi lovers of all kinds to find their perfect bite. On our most recent visit, Mikayla took wonderful care of both me and my friend, who had begged me to come here with her after being bombarded with glowing TikToks and rave reviews that I could agree with by my own experience. Mikayla guided us patiently through the menu, wearing the kind of warm, genuine smile that makes you want to follow her recommendations. And we did, with no regrets. She’s got the right energy, knowledge and customer service I look for when I hire staff myself. She shared how the chefs are happy to customize your order, something you don’t often get at other sushi spots. She also hinted at a secret menu, which immediately became our next culinary goal. What struck me most, though, was the atmosphere behind the counter: a team that felt like a family, with caring owners and proud staff. You can feel it. And you can taste it. It all adds up, how a smaller-scale restaurant can consistently serve such incredible dishes with top-tier service. It’s the kind of place that not only keeps people coming back but earns new fans every day. We literally drove through a thunderstorm to get there... and we’d do it again. Honestly, next time, we’d drive through a flood if that’s what it takes to try that secret menu. Congratulations to the owners for building a gem of a place, welcoming, flavorful, full of soul with a proud and knowledgeable staff that enjoys the food as much as your guests.

If you’re a true sushi lover, Dojo Sushi is a must-try spot! I’ve visited multiple times, and it’s absolutely worth it every single time. The sushi bowl is packed with flavor, fresh ingredients, and the perfect texture mix. The sushi burrito is next-level—loaded with bold taste and delicious sauces. You can tell they really care about quality here. This place never disappoints!

Google
This was one of the most interesting sushi spots i have been to in a long while. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The off menu items were amazing as well such as the sushi burger and sushi fries. The customer service was fantastic and friendly. They explain everything in detail to help you make a decision. They are very much child friendly as they think about the children to make things easier for the parents. Highly recommend going to this spot. You won't be disappointed.

Yelp
The food is creative, and delicious! Very well made. Simple, staple menu but every item is well curated and tasty (not OVERLY done). Service is always good, and staff is friendly.

Yelp
The sushi was ok... it's your typical americanized sushi. Don't expect too much fish variety here. Although they do have some specialized items like the Sushi Tacos and Sushi Cake. The restaurant is quite small, it's mainly a to-go place. The staff is really good and friendly. They were ready to help if I had any questions. If you like the simple americanized sushi with lots of sauce on top then you will like Sushi Dojo.

Yelp
The first time I visited here they were brand new and I was not that impressed, in fact so much not so I thought it unfair to review them the way I wanted to since they were new and thought I would give them another chance before I wrote it down. I have not been back until today, and I am fine if I never come back. The ambiance has not changed, its a tight packed place that offers little comfort to the dine-in customer. Today, they had two photographers, who brought their kids with them, shooting photos/videos at 1pm. The dining room as I mentioned is very small and they literally took up over half of it, and that was when they were keeping themselves contained to that space. But then they came over and started taking photos and videos in the area I was in. I felt like I was in the way, which honestly, a customer should NEVER feel like that. Now lets talk about the food...I ordered a Philadelphia Roll and a California Roll. It was just ok, and it the sliver of salmon in my Philly Roll was laughable...literally (see my photos). I also want to mention that they had received a shipment before I got there and frozen and refrigerated foods were left out the entire time I was there. A time or two someone started to put them up, but always got distracted and so boxes did not make it the whole time I was there. The one bright spot was the staff here. They were nice and engaging. Other than them though, as one reviewer said, "Sushi Dojo is a No-Go" for me. Review #2027

Yelp
This sushi spot is an absolute gem--perfect if you're into bold, unique flavors and rolls that don't skimp on the sauce. We had fun trying all the different items and left super full.

Yelp
The food was good, it's different than anything I've ever had! The buns on the tacos are amazing! Loved the sushi burrito, would get one again! Love fusion and mixing of cultures.

Yelp
Food is unique, is fresh, and the counter service is great. This small business deserves your time and a shot at your money in my opinion.
google avatar

Kyuri H.

Yelp
Small restaurant but staff always make accommodations for the changes I want in my life order. The sushi is more fusion style, but I'd say it's still pretty good. I love the poke bowl here, and it even comes with avocado!

Robin S.

Yelp
Friendly greeting from Matt and Justin also happy helpful service. The food is so delicious! :)

Yelp
Was previously a food truck, now it has its own building. Limited parking space in the front but you can park across the little street with some more parking. Covered patio seating. Service was nice. Food was decent. Salmon sashimi was a little fishy and very thinly sliced. The taco was a cool conception. You can order ahead of time for catering and sushi cakes and several other options. Can get cramped during peak hours but you can always order to go. Clean environment!

Yelp
We only ordered a sushi cake so this review is specific to that. We plan on visiting another time and trying more rolls. The sushi cake is perfect! It was a bday surprise that everyone enjoyed. It is a ton of food that we'll be eating on. The process of ordering was extremely easy. The cake was delicious.

Yelp
I think this restaurant is primarily a take-out style as there are very limited tables inside. My guess is the high rating is for takeout customers which is likely the majority of their business. When we decided to go to this restaurant we didn't know the above and going there expecting a normal sitdown experience created a letdown. Of the four tables, 3 are table top with no back to the stools and there is 1 sitdown table with normal chairs. There are more tables outside, but when it feels like 100-degrees not many people will sit there. We initially had a hard time finding it because signage off of Southlake Blvd is poor and the restaurant is hiden behind a 2-story building. If you know where it is located it is no big deal, but for first-timers the location is not readily visable. Their most popular item they told us is their taco's. They were good, but on the small side and certainly not a healthy food as it is fried. Evidently, their burritos are their next hot item, but we order 2 rolls to go with the taco order and this was sufficient for 2 adults. The rolls were average quality and not as good as other "pure sushi" restaurants in the area. The restaurant chooses to serve soy sauce and ginger in packets that are extremely messy/sticky. I would't go back for that reason alone as the whole lunch my hands were sticky and feeling yucky. Again, for the majority of their business which is take out this is normal, but for sitdown dining it is not desireable. The place settings are plastic and again fine for takeout, but not good for sitdown table settings.

Yelp
Endless vegan and vegetarian choices. All delicious! Friendly staff. And kid friendly, too. They have outdoor seating. Indoor seating is limited. The Food is sooo worth it!

Yelp
Stumbled upon this place while in town for a conference at The Gaylord and I'm glad I did. Excellent sushi, very creative and made fresh and pretty quickly. The owner, Matt was great and definitely cared about the quality and a great dining experience. It's not fancy and there are just a few tables and it's BYOB, but I'm telling you, you can't go wrong. We'll be back again!! Great going, Matt!

Yelp
Awesome food. Great service. Definitely worth the trip. We will be back for more very soon

Yelp
The 5 star reviews are legit. This place is incredible. My wife got the restaurant's top seller, the sushi tacos. She said it was one of the best things she has ever eaten. They come with a fried bao bun "shell" and are generously packed with fried shrimp tempura, crab, avacado, and a sauce. The owner made a special item for me. I don't eat fish but I wanted to try one of their sushi burritos, but with orange chicken instead of fish. It was absolutely delicious. Their orange chicken is so fresh and went really well with the veggies and sticky rice in the burrito. The owner also suggested their egg rolls, they are a top seller too. I have had many egg rolls, and essentially they are all the same, so I was curious what made these a top seller. But man were they amazing. Way better than any egg rolls I've ever had. The pork was so juicy and flavorful. And the roll was so crispy. I could eat like 20 of them lol. We also got a couple of the ice cream macaroons, great way to end our meal. Throughout our meal, the owner spoke with us and we got to hear his passion for food. He doesn't just make something and stick it on the menu. He tests his recipes through trial and error and ensures top quality and flavors. I cannot speak highly enough of this place. It's such a gem of a place and we cannot wait to go back.

Yelp
Delicious!!!!! We had a pleasant experience the sushi tacos is a must for sure!!!! We enjoyed our self

Nicole G.

Yelp
I just need to say that the sushi was SO GOOD! I have an unhealthy obsession with sushi so I like to think I have a pretty good judge of good versus meh sushi restaurants and this one is definitely up there in my top 5. This is not the place to go if you want the fully authentic/traditional experience but if you love fresh fish, new flavors, and a variety of options I highly recommend! We had the sushi tacos (ended up ordering a second order because we liked them so much), the sushi burger (secret menu item that was absolutely massive), the one inch punch roll, and the salmon and tuna nigiri (I order this pretty much everywhere because I loooooooove nigiri). Let me tell you, it was all so delicious and FRESH! I was shocked by how fresh the fish and ingredients were. So for food 10/10 Service - couldn't be better! We came in 15 min before closing and the owner rung us up and treated us like family (this was our first time coming too). They didn't rush us out and even let us order that second sushi taco after they had technically closed. It was such a friendly environment, I can see why so many people rave about it! Next time you want to change things up for dinner or a chill date night, definitely check out Sushi Dojo!

Yelp
I have been trying to find a good sushi spot in the area (the place I'd been going to started to treat their regulars poorly, quality of service & food dropped), so I searched yelp and came across Sushi Dojo. I placed an order to - shrimp dumplings, California roll, and a sushi burrito. I haven't had a decent sushi burrito since living in CA (It's been over 5 years now), and have been on the hunt. Fried shrimp dumplings (shumai) - I've never thought to deep fry shumai - I've always preferred steamed - but it was tasty. California roll - one of the best tasting Cali rolls I've had since moving to TX. Very fresh tasting! Sushi burrito - first, the taste was amazing! The ratio of rice to the ingredients was perfect! Second, the portion size was perfect - filling, but not overwhelming. Third, this is something I'd definitely order again. The team that works at Sushi Dojo are extremely friendly, professional, and was very helpful. I was told that the house specialty is the sushi tacos (they use bao buns vs taco or wonton shells - genius! I look forward to trying the other items on their menu (and the ice cream sandwiches they had looked yummy). This is a great local spot worth trying...you'll be hooked! 6/26/24 - Ah, now I get it! I tried the puffed tacos tonight - SO DANG DELICIOUS! The bao buns were light, airy and crunchy...I was concerned they would be too doughy, but it was the perfect texture for the filling - both fried fish, spicy crab and avocado with a spicy Mayo drizzle. This is one of the best fish/sushi tacos I've had since living in CA (definitely Top 5!).
google avatar

Mechelle S.

Yelp
Dojo is a no go for me, just not fresh tasting. I ordered the pot stickers that were doughy and this taco bun. The taco bun was hard to eat and tasted fishy with way too many sauces so this dish found its way into the trash. This place is popular for people that want food delivered as they are more focused on curb pick up and delivery not dining in. I am sure they have an audience for their food and restaurant type but not for me.
google avatar

Yelp
The music is such a vibe also the food is just as awesome as their service, 10/10 will be coming back. Love it here and highly recommend this little hole in the wall sushi restaurant!

Yelp
My wife and I were craving sushi and decided to give Sushi Dojo a try. We both loved it! The staff was great. Thank you.

Yelp
You can't beat the sushi tacos! They are amazing. My kids loved the food and the staff is very friendly

Yelp
I could not recommend this place enough. the owner is so knowledgeable on everything they have and is so creative. amazing personality and amazing food. Great outdoor seating. I got the sushi burger (secret menu item) and it was AMAZING! Great quality on the food as well. Definitely give them a try.
google avatar

Lissandra P.

Yelp
For the price on the menu, the sushi rolls tasted amazing and fresh! They are slightly thinner than normal rolls- but that's where the cheap price comes into play. I love that they do daily specials as well! Mount Fuji is def my fave. Will be coming back! Oh and the food was prepped quick! Less than 10 minutes (we were the only ones there).

Jenn E.

Yelp
I can't say enough good things about Sushi Dojo! The food was amazing, and the service was exceptional. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Erin O.

Yelp
SEVERELY DISAPPOINTED ... that I didn't know about this place SOONER! As soon as I walked in, Matt got me a seat and, when I was overwhelmed with the amazing amount of options, he told me what I needed to try. I got the sushi tacos and the Mt. Fuji roll and let me tell you what, it's some of the best food I've ever had! Will definitely be returning to try more, although it'll be hard to break off from these two. They were delicious! Highly recommend!

Melinda K.

Yelp
Service was excellent! Friendly and informative. Ordered 4 different things and everything was better than delicious. Loved the casual atmosphere. Definitely want to go back soon!

Yelp
Tuesday around 1pm and we had a phenomenal experience at a phenomenal price point. Some of the best sushi I have had recently! The cashier was a woman who was very kind, wish I'd gotten her name! She helped us narrow down our options and was even sweet enough to bring our food to our table outside as soon as it was ready even though this is a counter service restaurant. Top to bottom: Shaggy (added fried onions) SLC Dragon (no sesame seeds) One Inch Punch - MY FAVORITE! Spicy Salmon (no sesame seeds) All were phenomenal and I'd recommend them all! The ambience was very casual, a bit of indoor seating but most seating is outdoors with umbrellas. Metal tables and chairs with lights if eating at night time. Wooden chopsticks, soy sauce and ginger packets, and napkins are near the drink station along with takeout containers if you need them. Wasabi given with each roll! 10/10 recommend!
google avatar

Sydney W.

Yelp
I often wake up craving a sushi taco from here it's that good. We try to come here as often as we can. Excellent service and food and prices. You'll miss driving by the brick and mortar location if you aren't careful. It's a tucked away little gem!
google avatar

Nicole C.

Yelp
We stopped in to eat during a layover for our flight and it did not disappoint. We got the tacos, one inch punch, shredded burrito, and orange chicken. The owner is super friendly and accommodating. It's a little hole in the wall spot next to shopping centers which was nice to walk off the food coma. Sushi tacos 9/10 One inch punch 8/10 Shredder burrito 7/10 Orange chicken 5/10

Yelp
This place is incredible! It is a casual restaurant that offers both dine in and takeout with quick, friendly service. The owner was working when we were in and he was wonderful with lots of helpful suggestions. Everything we tried was excellent, but the sushi tacos and the macaron ice cream were so unique and fun. They are both a must try while you are in!

Yelp
New favorite sushi place!! We ordered two sushi burritos (SO filling!) and a sampler of their fried yums. The hubby has proclaimed this as his new favorite sushi lunch spot. The staff is hardworking, as you can see their full kitchen from their tables. The music is calm and the place is clean. There aren't many tables inside, but plenty of tables outdoors for nice days! We'll be back soon to get another sushi fix!

Marjorie S.

Yelp
Always love this place. Everything is good and employees and owners are always friendly

Yelp
Ordered their largest celebration tray for my son's 10th birthday. Justin was very helpful and pleasant over the phone when taking my order. My SIL picked up the tray for me and when she got to my house, I saw that the zero was not filled in with sushi, It looked a little weird with the black space. I ran to a grocery store to pick up a Cali roll to fill up the black space. Sushi was good but it could be a bit bigger.

Yelp
Great experience at Sushi Dojo, wondered in for first time visit on a Saturday afternoon. We decided to try a bit of everything and all items were good but the taco is a standout! The bun is so delicious, soft but still has enough strength and toasting to hold the taco together. The Taco is 2/$9 and worth a try. We tried the popular burrito with hot Cheetos too, it's good but I found it kinda gimmicky. The sushi was fine. I'd give the food a solid 4 stars. The menu had catering options listed as well, pot stickers, egg rolls and tacos available. The crew working are really amazing and accommodating. I have a small child and they made him his own special taco with chicken (kinda like nuggets) and carrots. It was so nice and my kiddo loved participating in our sushi meal, the crew works to make our experience an enjoyable on really pushes Sushi Dojo to the next level and a full 5 stars. They are awesome. The dining area is small high tops but there is outdoor seating available at regular table height. Highly recommend you try the tacos first- they are a crowd pleaser!
google avatar

Yelp
One of the best casual fast sushi places I have been to! Sushi taco is a must try, good blend of flavors. Everything here is good, I like the service and the deals. I would definitely order a specialty tray for a special occasion.
google avatar

Celeste G.

Yelp
Sushi Dojo was great, and even had options for people with celiac and vegetarians! They were attentive that we got and liked our food and even though the place was small, it felt cozy and welcoming! The only downside is the minimal parking, but it was no big deal to get our extra steps in!
google avatar

Lolo A.

Yelp
While searching for restaurants, we came across Sushi Dojo, which serves "Americanized sushi." My husband was intrigued by their menu and suggested we visit. He took the initiative and placed an order for sushi tacos and a shredder burrito. I prefer sashimi and nigiri, so honestly, I wouldn't have chosen these items on my own. The sushi tacos were drenched in sauce, but paired with the fried bao, it made for a surprisingly tasty delight. The shredder burrito tasted okay, and better than expected. However, I absolutely did not care for the Cheetos in a sushi roll (personal preference). ************ Sushi tacos - Tempura shrimp, crab salad, and avocado with spicy and sweet sauce, served in a fried bao Shredder burrito - Tempura shrimp, spicy tuna, flaming hot Cheetos, cucumber, and avocado served with their spicy/sweet dipping sauce

Yelp
How have I not reviewed one of my favorite restaurants of all time?? I'm slacking!! Sushi Dojo has fresh, inventive rolls that are also extremely affordable. Their party trays are where it's at y'all!! They also make bad ass sushi cakes for birthdays or celebrations!! Ask about their secret menu. Sushi burger and fries, say whattttt?!?! Not only is their food top notch, but the staff is hospitable and literally the nicest people. Love me some Ryan, Matt, & Justin!! They work hard and will make sure you are taken care of. When you think you can't possibly eat anymore, you order dessert!!! The mochi ice cream is ughhhhh....dangerous. Go give them a shot!!
google avatar

Misty K.

Yelp
It's a little tricky to find but it's worth the u turn. They explained all the parts of the menu to help us choose right as we walked in. I love the personalized service and explanations. Every thing was customizable so my non veggie eating hubby was happy. The sushi taco is on a fried Bao bun with crab salad, tempura shrimp, avocado and some amazing sweet and spicy sauce drizzled on top. I can't even explain how good they are, just try them and thank me later. It's two to an order so it's plenty big enough to share but you are not gonna want to. The shredder burrito is spicy tuna, tempura shrimp, flaming hot Cheetos, and rice wrapped in seaweed. It's a flavor explosion with crunch and heat. They have the sauces on the side for dipping but I liked it all by itself. The egg rolls came out super hot and they did not disappoint. So crunchy and flavor packed. They came with duck sauce but I liked them all by themselves. It's BYOB so for me I would pick a Pinot Gris or a Sauvignon blanc to pair with this amount of deliciousness. I enjoyed every bite. It's a must try in Southlake. Great atmosphere, amazing service and the food is incredible. I had to quickly add an edit to say try the macroon ice cream sandwiches. The fruity pebbles one is so ya ba da ba delicious!

Yelp
Matt was a very helpful host and gave good recommendations. We loved everything we had (tacos, splinter, and one inch punch). We will certainly be bringing our kids down some time soon. Absolutely worth it.

Afrin K.

Yelp
Overall pretty good - a little surprised by the 5/5 review, but I may say not as tasty as I was expecting. The cost was great, each roll ~$10-12. The inside is small and a little hectic, so could be hard to find a place to sit inside around a busy period. The service was pretty good although took longer than expected. Overall good place but probably wouldn't go back.

Yelp
Sushi Dojo never disappoints! It is always fresh and delicious! The employees there are top notch! The location is great being mid cities area! If you're in the lovely area of southlake definitely check them out!

Yelp
Best orange chicken I've ever had. They also have some fun sushi dishes. Service was excellent.

Yelp
The food was delicious! We got the sushi tacos, and the shaggy roll! Cool little spot, and friendly service! Also, it's BYOB!

Yelp
I really like this place. The first time I went I got the sushi tacos, tartare towers. And a Joy macaroon ice cream sandwich. The sushi tacos are amazing!!! The tartare towers were really good. I enjoyed that there were 3 tartare towers, perfect for sharing. The second time I went, we got 2 orders of sushi tacos, a dojo crunch roll, and another macaroon ice cream sandwich. The sushi tacos were amazing again. The crunch roll was good, not great. The ice cream sandwich was really good. The sushi tacos are definitely what will keep me returning to this place.

Sushi dojo is rolling out something fresh! Their Japanese fusion creations are out of this world! Although the place is small, I really appreciate the art & how tidy the place is. Plus, the staff is really friendly! Ok, so here's what we got today: egg rolls, the Crunch Dojo, the Texas Roll, & the Shredder burrito. Although all were delicious, our favorite was the Shredder burrito. It was spicy, yet sweet, & we weren't expecting some flaming hot cheetos in it. Although it's not a common ingredient in sushi, it worked out pretty well. Hope to come back again soon!

Yelp
The menu isn't really my favorite. It's kind of like Americanized sushi The decor is interesting and pop-py. I can see it really appealing to a much younger crowd. I'll give it a 4 bc I ordered a sushi platter and I was so freaking amazed that the rice wasn't hard and stale after it had been in the fridge. The rolls were pretty good and decent sized. A few pieces were kind of messed up but ah well.
