Google
My new favorite Sushi restaurant! Their Shrimp Tempura roll, with chicken added and deep fried, 🤤🤤🤤, soooooo good! The staff is really cool too, make sure to say hi to the Chef, he's a really cool dude with amazing Sushi Talent! Plus they have Fuji Apple Sake, which in my opinion is the greatest Sake ever! Seriously, if you like Sushi, check this place out, it has a very unique and chill atmosphere.

I eat sushi often, but this was my first time coming here being on the other side of town. I was impressed and will be back! Both rolls I had were great and fresh! It's not your normal atmosphere for sushi, which is nice finding somewhere unique. Sounds strange, but it was nice going to a sushi restaurant where the bathroom didn't smell like a sewer plant (don't know why that's so common). Good service, even though it was in the slow afternoon time, so I don't know how quick they are on a busy night. I plan on finding out though!

I came in to get a couple of sushi rolls to go. There was no wait so I got my rolls quick. The employees were nice. I would say this place is a hidden gem. I tried the spider roll and the Vegas rolls. They were both super tasty but the Vegas was my favorite. They also do great deals. I will be back next time I’m in the area.

Google
I was skeptical walking in Friday afternoon because the small venue smelled a bit fishy. Tried the Zenith, Pineapple Tango. Also had the Serrano Sunrise as per my waiter’s suggestion. First, I appreciate the large roll size and pieces. I struck a lucky hit with a good combination of deep, rich flavor (Zenith) and a light, spicy experience (SS). The other roll was good, but the other two stole the spotlight for me. Overall, this might be my favorite sushi place in SLC at the moment. Currently my favorite place to get sushi in Salt Lake City.

Google
My wife, baby and I went here and we were not disappointed! So good! The staff is friendly, owner is inviting and Adrian is an awesome chef/artist! Yeah, I said artist. They have a cabinet with some art for sale and a little spot in the corner for a DJ. The vibe check is there. This place ought to be slammed every night! Sake was tasty as well! We got a flight and they were all smooth. I loved the coconut, my wife loved the plum. We'll be back for more noodles and sushi! Thanks for the amazing service!

Google
The HARDCORE COMBO is the best sushi platter with the freshest, tastiest fish assortment of sashimi & nigiri... plus it comes with miso soup and a Poké bowl with seaweed salad... all for $24.99! The vibes are cool, with under the sea dj graffiti. Also, I heard on Tuesdays they have nigiri happy hour all day. Local gem, for sure! Salmon belly is mind-blowing.

Google
This place is great! Highly recommend the mount fugi roll, I've never heard anything like it and it absolutely devolved in your mouth. It was basically a riceless roll, crab replacing the rice. The other roll pictured here is the White Mars. Also delicious. I came to leave a 5 star review again just for that Mount Fugi roll and forgot I already left one. Seriously, everyone needs this roll.

Google
We’ve been coming to Sushi Groove for date nights for years. We get both take out and dine-in depending on our mood and both are great. Great place for both veggie sushi options and meat-eaters. I’ve ordered a Vegas for myself and sometimes it’s got different ingredients from the last time I got it, but it’s still tasty. I think it just depends on who rolled it. The sake selection is great. The servers are great. I think there are vegan options too but neither me nor my boyfriend eat vegan so don’t take my word for it.

Yelp
Service was prompt and courteous and the food was great. The atmosphere is casual and inviting.

Yelp
Still consistently good. Edamame and seaweed squid salad was good. Zenith roll is delicious, Mt Fuji is my favorite with baked salmon, and the Rainbow roll was excellent. Kinda slow service.

Yelp
Went on a Saturday for lunch. The outside is pretty run down, the inside isn't much better. There's a weird smell inside. Service was great but we were the only customers. We should have left. We got a ceviche that was supposed to be spicy w Serrano chiles, but it was not spicy at all. It was served in a tiny bowl that was awkward to dip the chips into and scoop out of. The only flavor we could taste was salt. It was marinated in ponzu sauce, too much ponzu sauce, looked like ponzu soup w shrimp. We got a Jersey Devil roll, supposed to be spicy, it wasn't. The rice crumbled apart upon picking it up. It was all one texture and bland. The Buddha roll was the same. Bland and mush. I desperately wanted flavor but the only condiment on the table was soy sauce. We didn't finish our rolls or our beers bc it just wasn't good.

Yelp
DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU HAVE A GLUTEN ALLERGY! The waitress seemed annoyed I asked about a gluten free menu. I'm not gluten free by choice, it's a serious health issue! She brought a bottle over and told me it was Tamari sauce but the bottle still said Soy sauce. I thought that was odd but figured they didn't have a designated bottle labeled but it DID have a different colored lid so I trusted her. Why else would she bring over a different bottle than what we had on the table? Nope Nope Nope. Night was ruined after that.

Yelp
A good friend of mine took me and the BF here on a double date night, and this might have to be a weekly stop! The outside of the building isn't flashy, or honestly noticeable from the street, so it's very easy to just pass it by. But going inside is a completely different ballgame. It's bright, it's loud with music and chatter and conversation, and they have some awesome wall art and decor. It's like a fun mix of groovy urban vibes with a sushi restaurant. We went on Tuesday, as specific rolls (it was the nigiri selections when we went) are 2.50 versus the full price. So if you plan to go at this time, please be aware of how loud and busy the place will likely be. ;) The service was great. The staff are nice and welcoming, but the food is 100% solidly the reason to give Sushi Groove a try. The gyoza were served piping hot and fresh, to the point where the outside was crunchy and crisp and so delicious. We ordered the unagi (eel), sake (salmon) and ebi (shrimp) nigiri and all three were extremely tasty. I went out on a limb and also tried the tempura shrimp full roll, and oh man, it was great. My budget wouldn't budge for the extra four orders my stomach desperately wanted, haha! To sum it up, this place is a fun date night spot to try out as well as a delicious option for take out sushi! I definitely liked it and will be back again.

Yelp
Grabbed some rolls to go on a Friday night for a picnic, and the service was extremely fast! We ordered there and it was done in about 10 minutes! We ordered the Vegas, Coco Loco and Maui Wowie. The Maui Wowie was soo spicy so if that's not you're jam, skip that! The Vegas roll was *chefs kiss* Will be back!!

Yelp
I go to sushi groove at least 2x a month, and every Friday during lent (no meat for me). The Zenith roll is my absolute favorite, and the coconut shrimp with spicy mayo and eal type sauce for dipping is LEGIT. Bring a bottle of Sauv Blanc or get beers to pair. Never disappoints!

Yelp
Is there a negative star to give to this place? Currently have a bad diarrhea.Stopped by today and the the nigir smells so fishy. Roll was okay and I went when its not busy (I was the only customer take note) and took 20 mins for 1 roll and nigiri. I wish the Health department could inspect the quality fish in sushi restaurants, and if not passed just close them down. If you dont want food poisoning, PLEASE just go to Street tacos its way better and safe
google avatar

Yelp
Cool vibe, great service. Definitely a great spot for lunch. I got Nigiri and the chef's choice roll. This will be my spot for lunch fo Sho'

Yelp
If I could give no stars I would. Me and my partner try to support local and give places a try. Sushi spot on the corner. Why not. Went in. Very loud. Got put in a corner under a DJ booth which we later heard wasn't barely used. Order 4 pieces of nigiri and a Maui wowi roll. Both abysmal. Left and the food wasn't sitting with our stomachs. Grabbed a ginger ale and soda water on the way home and within the hour my partner was in the bathroom. The fish looked like it had seen better days and tasted like it had been not fresh at all. I tried to call and speak with someone they said they can't give me a refund unless I came in. Sorry my partner is throwing up and we don't feel like driving back over. I was hung up on and told that they couldn't have gotten sick. I was upset as I tried to be nice and the staff was the most rude person I've ever spoken too. Don't tell me it's form something else. DONT EAT HERE UNLESS YOU WANT TO GET SICK https://www.poison.org/articles/what-you-cant-smell-can-hurt#:~:text=Symptoms%20of%20scombroid%20fish%20poisoning,hours%20after%20eating%20the%20fish.

Yelp
$2.50 nigiri on Tuesdays! What could go wrong? (I wrote that before I ordered) I had my doubts about this place, especially when I saw a couple of white guys behind the counter. But overall, this was a very pleasant experience. Sometimes it's good to have low expectations. If you're serious enthusiast of sushi, you might not enjoy this place, but it's a great value for the casual sushi eater. The fish slices were a bit thin and smaller than normal, but for $1.25 apiece, you can't complain about that. The quality of the fish was better than expected and there was a pretty decent variety. My only complaint is that the rice was a little bit tough. Not too bad, though. Our server, "Mads" was very attentive and nice. If I lived in Salt Lake City, I probably would be here every Tuesday...

Yelp
Listen friends!! This place!amazing.Visiting from out of town for the weekend and we found this hidden gem that's been here for 11 years! The staff was so welcoming even when we showed up 40 min before closing thank you. The food was fresh, delicious and the rolls were huge ! I had a the coconut shrimp and they were HUGE for under $10'!! Whatttt Tuesday is a good time to come .. more deals and there's a DJ from 6-10pm (don't quote me) Over tip the waitresses they deserve it. Air high-five the cooks because they are fast and amazing. The bathrooms were super clean & ladies there is a full length mirror for shameless selfies ! You won't be disappointed

Yelp
We love going here on Tuesday for $2.50 Tuesday. All the nigiri is $2.50 for two pieces. Service is inconsistent in the fact that sometimes it takes 30 minutes to get the nigiri after ordering, sometimes only 10. But the staff is always friendly, we love the groovy music to go with the vibe of the restaurant, parking is easy, and of course the bill is always amazingly reasonable. Will definitely continue to go back

Yelp
Such a chill spot for sushi when you just want to sit down and enjoy some good food. Rolls were great and they have some rolls I've never had but are delicious. Sunrise Serrano one is great. Jasmine serving us encased the whole experience!

Yelp
We started coming here 2+ years ago and there have been ups and downs, but I really think in the last 6 months or so they have found their GROOVE. We are diehard regulars of Tuesday nights and the fish has always been excellent and the service lovely, but slow. But now I think they have gotten the right staff and while Tuesday night is always going to be a little slow because of the great deals, the service is very attentive and makes the night very enjoyable. Outside of Tuesday, this place is always top notch and the prices reflect the quality of the fish. I like that they do interesting rolls but they really don't need to, the fish stands alone. Come for Tuesday night and stay for when you're craving great fish any other day.

Zaynab S.

Yelp
Great hole in the wall chill spot. The service was super quick but it did feel like they wanted you in and out quickly. I feel like the best thing on their menu is the tempura rolls, the rest were just okay! I love how many options there were on this menu though so there is a lot of opportunity to get something good! Not a long wait when we went in and they have TVs playing big games which made it fun!

Nicole S.

Yelp
This is the worst sushi place i have ever went to . I thought that food would at least be good because the outside looked sketchy , but no this sushi place was not it. And the service sucked the waiter was basically talking to his co worker when he could have been playing attention to us . took forver to get the check and to hurry up and leave . the food was so bad we just paid for the food and told ourselves we were never gonna come to this nasty sushi place ever again . the soft shell crab sushi was no even soft . and The tuna had me guessing if it was even tuna or not . I would not recommend this place .it was the worst experience ever . My boyfriend and I were disgusted at the food . I was scared he was gonna get food poison because of it . I honestly was gonna send it back but didn't and just paid and left . Worst sushi ever . Just thought you should know .

Clint M.

Yelp
Great vibes and good fish. Love it when they have a DJ spinning and love the art work on the wall!

Sophia C.

Yelp
My friend I tried this place two times because we wanted to take advantage of the 2 dollar Tuesday deal, which is unfortunately a scam. Both times the fish tasted fishy and didn't look fresh, the service took really long as well. It's also very pricey for the quality. The employees were very friendly, but my friend and I both felt very scared we were going to get sick just by how the fish tasted and looked last time. It would be better to go to Tsunami instead as it ends up the same price.

Yelp
This little unassuming restaurant is a hidden gem in SLC. They serve great sushi for incredible prices. The rolls are HUGE! All veggie rolls can be made vegan, but make sure to specify that, especially in regard to the sauces on top. The presentation of each roll was appetizing, appealing, and artful. You can tell the sushi chefs took great care to make each one. The service was great. Our server was attentive and friendly, and our waters were always full. I think the small size of the dining area helps them keep an eye on everything fairly well. I love that they play hip hop and indie soul music (almost every song was on one of my Spotify playlists, and I pride my music taste on unfamiliar but talented artists and songs). I would love to go back when they have live music. My biggest complaint is the cleanliness. When I asked for a glass to pour my beer, it wasn't clean... and I tried to wipe it with my napkin thinking it could be residue from the dishwasher, and it didn't help. It was covered in fingerprints and something else. The bathroom, especially the floor, walls and door, haven't been wiped in a hot minute. The floors had a hasty mopping job and the area behind the toilet looks like it hasn't been cleaned in a long time There is a lot of gunk gathered around the base of the tables, like they've never been moved to be mopped underneath. The sushi bar glass had splatters that seemed to be there for weeks and weeks. I truly do enjoy this restaurant, but it is pretty grimy. I'm not sure if it adds to the appeal and atmosphere, but it definitely makes me feel some type of way. Still, I recommend giving this place a visit!

Libby J.

Yelp
The fried vegi was so so fire! Service was also pretty quick! It was a cute environment
google avatar

Yelp
It's the cheapest sushi we have found around. When I went in to pick it up the vibe really made me question my life choices to buy sushi from a place like that. But we ate it and it was good and nobody got sick, so win! My only complaint is that their spicy tuna was *really* spicy. The firecracker roll even got my husband who loves heat! I got it with lemon instead of Serrano peppers which was delicious, but still with the spicy tuna center it was
google avatar

Adriana R.

Yelp
The fish quality was surprisingly really good! Everything is fresh, the chefs are fast, and the employees are kind. It's such a hidden gem and it's well-worth a try! :)

Angela B.

Yelp
Visiting from California. My son-in-law said this was the best sushi he had ever had when he worked here ten years ago, so we gave it a shot. So glad we did!!! The staff was phenomenal! So friendly and attentive. The sushi was some of the best I have ever had, especially the groovilious and the Buddha. If I lived in SLC, I would be a regular.

Anna Fulton L.

Yelp
I mean... don't dine in because the atmosphere bites. Think subway but worse. It's best to order to go, but be aware of the rude and annoyed 20 yr old bros taking your orders over the phone and ringing you up as you come in to pay. I called in and had my kid crying in the background (hard and embarrassing for me) but heard the host complain about me before he hung up. Also this isn't just a one time experience for me. I live close by and go often but I'm so fed up with their service. The sushi chefs making the magic are awesome and gifted, but all their little workers bite. So! If you want 10/10 quality sushi, in a horrible atmosphere, that is priced the same as Tsunami, Sapa, etc, with horrible service... this is your spot.
google avatar

Ashley K.

Yelp
Good sushi, good service, loved the Sake flights! Definitely recommend going! Make sure to check out their Tuesday specials too!

Shawn C.

Yelp
Awesome ambiance. Fun but also clean and comfortable. Food is amazing from the basics to the unique and interesting. It was great to try things I would have never imagined existed. Friendly and fast service. Happy staff. With personality. It's like Roburritos in York, PA, but made into a sushi restaurant. We WILL be back.
google avatar

Sydney M.

Yelp
New favorite sushi place! Service was chill and it was lively at 8:30pm, which was really nice for a Tuesday night. Great sushi! Coco Loco was amazinggggg.
google avatar

Brandon L.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem! The sushi is fresh with a really cool atmosphere! I would put their sushi up against anyone in Salt Lake. My wife and I really enjoyed its. We will be back to try more items

Sara S.

Yelp
Sushi Groove was good but not great. The rolls were a bit disappointing, as the quality of ingredients and taste were just okay. However, I really appreciated the atmosphere and friendly service. Also - the cucumber salad is just a green lettuce salad with a small topping of shaved cucumber.
google avatar

Melinda A.

Yelp
We have loved Sushi Groove in the past but last Tuesday night wasn't so good. My husband, daughter and I all got food poisoning! Bad stomach pain, diarrhea some nausea. We got 6 rolls, gyoza and tempura veggies. There was a weird spicy tuna prep (almost a paste)on top of a couple rolls that tasted sort of weird, but not obviously bad, so we ate everything. Sadly, after the fact I read reviews of other food poisoning events, especially on Tuesdays. Also the rolls were not tightly rolled and fell apart. Someone mentioned a health dept issue in the past, I am going to report it.

Sugarhouse G.

Yelp
I was told that my small takeout order would be ready in 25 minutes, everything except for my sushi roll was ready when I arrived 25 minutes later. I was told to wait until they finish the sushi roll, that took an additional 30 minutes. By the time I got home all of my food was cold and I was late getting back to work. Good food but the service really let me down this time.
google avatar

Adrienne M.

Yelp
Great sushi and they cater to allergies. Well priced rolls, unique flavors (try the Oreo sushi for fun), and great atmosphere. It can be a long wait at times but we've been back a handful of times. Super fun, you will enjoy!

Yelp
Our family really enjoys Sushi Groove and we return as often as we can. I do have a suggestion for the chefs and especially the owners, Jeff and Dave - if you know your customer's name when they walk in, say "Hi 'insert customer name here'" to us, or look at us and nod your head in acknowledgement we're here. Don't just address your 'cool dude friend customers' with a 'warm bro welcome' with hugs and handshakes - the rest of us see that(!) and it's uncool! I know everyone is busy, but that simple gesture would make our family, customers for almost 10 years, feel as appreciated and warm as the 'cool bros' (that we are not).
google avatar

Steven P.

Yelp
I love this place. The sushi was phenomenal and the staff was really friendly! I came twice during my visit the SLC. Really loved their miso soup and really really enjoyed all of the sushi we got! Can't wait to go back here next time I'm in town!
google avatar

Aaron F.

Yelp
More coastal fish shop than Japanese staple. It feels like we're in Santa Cruz or San Clemente instead at the foot of the Rockies. The setup is definitely groovy with the painted walls and ceiling. The service was great, the rolls were way bigger than I expected, and their sake list is long. I also thought the pricing was super fair. $5 beer & gyoza.
google avatar

Lacey S.

Yelp
Favorite sushi joint to go to. Staff is friendly and amazing. Fish is always fresh and delicious. Great prices! Big roles! There's no other place we would rather go for sushi! Live music, great Dj's- you just can't go wrong!
google avatar

Bao L.

Yelp
If you're coming here for sushi, don't. Unless you don't have a palette or know what good sushi is then this could be the place! Honestly, I should've known better when I walked in and saw the crowd. Sushi rice was way too mushy. Miso soup? So salty I couldn't even enjoy it. Rainbow sushi combo ? Probably the worst. The mussels are just doused in soy sauce. I had a way better impression when I came the first time with friends but this time was an absolute flop. I would not try it again, 0/10. My partner is now sick with a stomach ache & they only ate like 3 pieces of fish. If you're looking for good sushi, SAPA or Takashi or Itto Sushi would be great. Hell even the happy hour sushi from Seafood Bucket. But I know everyone has their own impression of what sushi should be like. I just know this one is not for me. At all.
google avatar

Carly W.

Yelp
If you're looking for food poisoning, this is your place. My gf and I got horribly sick here after ordering their Tuesday night sushi. Looking at the older reviews, it looks like they clear out their fish and sell it Tuesday's for cheap. Steer clear of this sushi joint!

Linnéa S.

Yelp
We live nearby so I give them a try every few months but it's always been okay at best to me, but they always seem busy so maybe some of the options that aren't my first picks are where they shine.
google avatar

Jay G.

Yelp
Honestly, when I first walked in was a bit taken aback, it a bit too loud and the atmosphere was bit too "bare", but then our server Lisa showed up, and suddenly the vibe was on and the place became entirely different. The whole vibe became relaxation to the max! Then I understood the idea, and it is simply delicious sushi, in an unpretentious atmosphere; where you can be served by Lisa, who will make you feel at home! She's awesome! With everything else I didn't like, if Lisa wasn't so amazing and in queue, this would have been an entirely different review from me.
google avatar

Steve B.

Yelp
My friends, party of 5, went here. We ordered pretty quickly but it took 45 minutes to get our food. Other people that came after us got their food before us. The food was okay, but don't bother going unless you have a lot of time to kill. There are plenty of other places to choose from.

Chris F.

Yelp
I normally love and recommend this place to all my friends and family but the other night definitely made me not want to come back. Me and my mom went and we order some food, not a-lot of food but for some reason people that started showing up after us got there food way before us. We tried to flag down the server but we got ignored cause she knew she had served a later party before us. It's pretty shitty to watch someone completely ignore you. Had the server come up to us and taken some accountability and apologized then we would have been a lot happier. We finally get our food, eat it up and then a new server comes up to us acting all hard and pretty much just disrespected us. Will never be coming back here again.
google avatar

Brooke G.

Yelp
I have no idea why this place isn't at 4.5 stars but they have great sushi, from the way they cut/the fish to awesome plays on flavors like the Serrano sunset(right)! It literally has my heart. And they're never cheap on portion sizes like soooo many sushi restaurants here Utah. $15 for something that's a snack? Nah... I'mma just go to sushi groove
google avatar

Madeline W.

Yelp
The fish on the sushi had a bad odor to it. Tuna was brown and looked like it was from a can. Just all around weird flavor. Didn't realize till after I ordered that the restaurant received bad health inspection scores

Lars L.

Yelp
Absolutely rude, non accommodating and insulting in every way. Nothing good to say about this place!

K H.

Yelp
Don't judge this place by the outside!! It's so worth it! I am so embarrassed that I refused to eat here for 2 years because it looks like a hole from the outside and I couldn't imagine the food being very fresh or impressive I was SO wrong!! It is absolutely delicious and the sushi was so fresh. We ordered takeout on a Friday and it was about 25 minute wait and worth every minute! Highly recommend the rolls w mango- so scrumptious!
