First time here & really enjoyed it. No sticky floors or dusty shelves. Quick friendly service. I came after lunch rush so food came out quickly. Definitely will be back. I had Shrimp Tempura roll & Chicken Katsu box. Delicious!

Google
Very cool spot with great options and unique plates. Well prepared and rolls are quite large so you don't feel like you're spending a lot for a little. We enjoyed the creativity in the rolls and the flavor each roll offers is great. We definitely recommend this spot, good value and great taste.

We just moved to the area and wanted to give this place a try. We went with the lunch menu and it did not disappoint. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was chill and quiet, we will definitely be eating here again.

We had a great experience from start to finish. The interior of the restaurant was warm and inviting. The staff was friendly, helpful and attentive. The robust menu had something for everyone. We enjoyed a variety of sushi rolls which were all fresh, creative and delicious.

4/26/2023 was my first visit to Sushi Haru. My first thoughts when walking in were, wow this place looks nice, clean, and well decorated. The place was larger than I thought with table choices for 2, 4, 6, or extra large booths that might seat 8 people. The crab Rangoon appetizer was perfect and the 6 crab Rangoon were at least 60% larger than I am used to seeing. Our Sushi rolls arrived about the same time we finished the appetizer. The rolls were excellent. I was surprised that they were warm and lightly fried with a delicate crisp crust on the out side. The texture and flavor were both perfect. I will be back for more very soon. I want to try all of the many roll options that they offer. In my opinion, the prices were very reasonable and a little cheaper than another place where I had Sushi a few days before I dined here. Check out their menu. They have a lot of dishes, huge Sushi roll selection, and group options.

This was my second visit, and I noticed some changes in the ambiance since my last trip in 2018. The Japanese floor tables (chabudai) have been replaced by traditional tables. The staff was friendly, and our group of five received our orders in just 5-10 minutes. I tried the Chicken Teriyaki and KC Strip steak combo lunch plate, which came with clear soup and salad first, followed by the combo. The plate was a perfect balance of greens, rice, and protein, and I loved it. My friends enjoyed their sushi and rolls as well. We visited quite late for lunch, so the place wasn’t busy at all.

Google
This small hole in the wall probably has some of the best sushi on state line. The service was outstanding as we were greeted and seated almost immediately with a big friendly smile. The restaurant itself was very clean and orderly. I got some salmon Nigiri, miso soup and sea food tempura combination. My partner got the rainbow roll and a variety roll. The fish tasted fresh, the tempura was extra crispy and our edamame was seasoned to perfection. It was very nice to have multiple other options incase you want something other than sushi. Overall this experience is well worth the price you get!

Google
Great hidden gem in SKC! Ate lunch here and the food was fantastic! Ordered one of the lunch specials with the Korean beef and it was delicious. The California rolls were fresh and scrumptious. The shrimp tempura and crab rangoon was amazing as well. Definitely making this a favorite spot.

Yelp
Sushi Haru was a excellent hole in the wall choice for me and my family when they visited KC. The food came out very good with good sized portions. The service was on point when we went. To wrap up, the overall vibe of the place was nice and it was very clean and orderly. Would recommend!

Yelp
A small quiet restaurant, tucked away in a strip mall. Don't blink or you'll miss it. We came on a Saturday for dinner and were surprised not many people were here. Usually that's a bad sign but a friend had recommended this place, so we got seated and agreed to give their food a try. We ordered 4 of their signature rolls, 3 of the 4 were super delicious while the last one with the soft crab was good but nothing to rave about. Their fried rice was a hit - well cooked and full of flavor. The only downside I noticed is that the large majority of their rolls have imitation crab. Trying to pick rolls with only real fish is hard as the selection is limited. I hope they will get more fresh fish rolls on the menu.

Yelp
Always the best sushi around. Great service. Moderate atmosphere, friendly servers and the prices are great

Yelp
This place has to be fairly new because I used to live minutes away and I've never heard of it. I wish I had taken more pictures of the inside, because it's a beautiful restaurant. The sushi was delicious and the rice and fish felt fresh. I was so happy to have a spicy garlic edamame option that didn't destroy my stomach. We were seated right away. We had a reservation, but there plenty of open tables. It was a Saturday, so I hope they are a new place just getting established. I would love to see it stay in business. They also offer hibachi and have a full bar, two things we will have to try the next time we come.

Yelp
Good sushi for a good price! This is a favorite place for us when we are in KC and the sushi has always been consistently good for us. It's not fancy and we like the casual vibe of the place. We like the heart attack roll and the pyramid roll. We also will usually get the tuna and salmon sashimi and it's always good. The service here is ok, it's a pretty casual spot so nothing out of the ordinary. Mixed alcoholic drinks are just ok, but if you're getting sushi just get a beer or sake and it's all good. If you're in southern KC you should try it out for good sushi and sashimi.

Yelp
Lunch Yellowtail Scallion Roll, 2 out of 10. Half of the pieces are falling apart and the color of the fish is scary. Shrimp Tempura roll 3 out of 10 came with 4 massive pieces, never seen a roll cut like that. Definitely went downhill

Liz W.

Yelp
Great place with friendly staff and outstanding sushi. We had eel avocado roll, California roll, Spicy dragon roll, Live roll and salmon roll. All were delicious and very reasonably priced. Elayna was our server and she was attentive and helpful in picking our selections. Great job!

Yelp
I loved almost all I ate. The Miso soup was ok but not the best. The shrimp tempura was excellent as was the squid salad and the sashimi sampler platter. My new favorite sushi joint in the KC Area!
google avatar

Bobbi T.

Yelp
We have been here a few times whenever we are shopping in the area. So far everything we have tried has been good. Not good enough that we would venture out this way just to eat here but definitely good enough if we are in the area. Service was fast and friendly. We were in and out of there in less than an hour so they are all definitely efficient there!

Yelp
The chirashi is decent! I think adding ikura would add to its wow factor. We ordered delivery tonight. I asked for no plastic utensils and they listened

Mike C.

Yelp
Glad i tried a new sushi spot, good food, a great sauce, good service, great ambiance. Its my favorite sushi spot in south kansas city.

Yelp
From beginning to end, our trip was fantastic. The restaurant's decor was cozy and welcoming. The personnel was attentive, kind, and helpful. There was something for everyone on the extensive menu. We sampled a range of sushi rolls, all of which were inventive, tasty, and fresh.

Christina H.

Yelp
Very disappointing experience. I ordered the cucumber salad and a spicy tuna roll to go. The salad had no dressing on it, it was completely dry when as advertised it was supposed to have ponzu sauce on it. The spicy tuna roll was not spicy. The quality of the tuna was very poor, almost zero color and chopped, very dry. I have been eating sushi for 20 years all over the US and have come to recognize the color of healthy, fresh raw flesh - this was either the discarded remnants of the choice cut OR it was not tuna at all but a whitefish disguised as tuna with red coloring. Though this was not a good experience, I realize that there are many other items on the menu and would be willing to give it another chance ordering something else, such as a bento box with cooked items. I will not ever get raw fish from them again.

Yelp
Weird sewer-like smell when you walk in. I got used to it while waiting for the order.

Yelp
Has my sushi craving been satisfied? Yes. Have my foodie expectations been met? Maybe not so much. First things first, the interior was top-notch (10/10). Definitely a sweet place for a first date or a special ocassion. They even have two beautifully decorated event spaces that give a bit more privacy. The service was ... satisfactory (7/10). We just had so much trouble catching our server's attention (or any server's attention for that matter). For being a pretty slow Thursday night (maybe there were 4 other tables being waited on), both servers were hardly on the floor. Whatever they were doing out back by the kitchen must have been of quite the importance. However, whenever we DID catch a glimpse of them, they were quite sweet and eager to help. Now for the most important part...THE FOOD (6/10). I had been craving sushi for nearly 2 months before we finally decided to go out for some. Being from SoCal, we know how to do our sushi GOOD (think quality AYCE sushi options with lots of good competition). That being said, gearing up the courage to try a new sushi place in the midwest has been sort of a daunting task. Perhaps my expectations were a tad bit HIGH? We ordered the crunch roll, the las vegas roll, the dynamite roll, and the love roll. As much as I was dying to order the raw fish sushi, I had to hold back (as I'm now 8months preggos). The rolls tasted decent, but the portion size is what really threw us off. Each order of rolls came with maybe 5-8 pieces of sushi, but they were TINY. They all came with the bare minimum. All the ingredients were there but literally the smallest amount you could think of putting on a roll. They all came with such a thin, thin layer of rice that you almost couldn't taste the rice! Also, be warned, the dynamite roll is not anything like a dynamite roll you might order from another sushi restaurant. They put a crunch on the outside, hardly any sauce, and...crushed peanuts on the outside. A VERY interesting combination. For having dropped nearly $50, we left hungry but just couldn't justify dropping another $10 for another roll.

Yelp
Great ambiance here! Loved the vibe of this sushi bar. Lots of people coming in and out for takeaway and dine in for a Spring 2021 Tuesday. Menu had tons of options (sans alcohol at the moment). We tried the Ume nigiri plate, the Samuri roll (served on fire) and the Alaskan King Crab roll and they were all tasty! Good prices for the portions! Glad Yelp brought us to this part of KC so we could find another solid sushi joint! Looking forward to them having that liquor license so we can come back for another date night!
google avatar

Nebie T.

Yelp
Service and ambiance was great. Sushi was also tasty. However, I would probably order something different if I came again. Peanuts and sushi are an interesting combination. All in all, I enjoyed eating here.

Yelp
We just dropped by because we were in the area but boy are we glad we did. The Haru special was a deal! All the fish was so fresh. Honestly both the crab salads were good but the other apps were better. Overall great sushi experience
google avatar

Jesse S.

Yelp
Best crab Rangoon around and sushi is tasty. Everyone is always nice when you come in even if it's carry out.

Yelp
We ordered curbside pickup for lunch yesterday and we were so impressed with our meal. They packed it very nicely and with such care so that nothing spilled on the way home and that the hot food stayed hot and the cold food stayed cold. Everything tasted extremely fresh and we couldn't think of a single thing that could have improved what we ordered. It is so nice that they offer the lunch special even on Saturdays. We will be frequent customers!!
google avatar

Yelp
I order to-go for a lunch bento and the food is DELICIOUS! For the price I cannot believe how much I get. I can call and they have it ready in a couple of minutes.

Yelp
Do not judge me, I went to this restaurant two days in a row for hibachi and sushi. The customer service was amazing and the place was decorated really nice for the holidays. The place was very Clean!!!! The first day I had a small order of salmon and scallops with white rice and veggies. I also ordered sushi and which one of the sushi rolls was recommended and it was good. The crab Rangoon oh my God! Amazing! Ordered both days!!! Day two was a Very Large Order!! Multiple Sushi Rolls, Fried Rice Combos, and Hibachi for 17 people. I said don't judge me. I love my family!! I forgot to mentioned I ordered pineapple juice both days and it was good- compliments of Dole. My only complaint was not enough Yum Yum sauce after I requested extra. No I didn't check the bag until I got home. Next time I will make sure I see the extra. 1 more is not extra when you have two large orders worth $200 together- better yet give me a bottle of yum yum, just kidding. Now I mentioned the customer service was amazing but I need to be more detailed. Since the order was so large I asked could the containers be labeled and "Just Like That" (inside joke for the Sex in the City lovers) they were labeled. Yes we will be visiting this restaurant again upon our return to KC.
google avatar

Mike K.

Yelp
Great sushi and sashimi. The last time we went we had lunch from the lunch menu. The lunch pricing is amazing. You can't even eat at McDonald's for the same price.
google avatar

Sandy B.

Yelp
New Year's Eve. They have always had great food & service. Restaurant was not completely full but we were given small plastic forks in cloth napkins to eat with! I couldn't even pierce my vegetables or chicken to pick it up. No excuse not to have enough silverware. Hibachi chicken was good but dinner was too frustrating to eat. Decided to take it home. Good prices.
google avatar

Courtney R.

Yelp
This has become my go to sushi place! The location is very unassuming but check the menu before you judge!! So many options for all group types and the interior is well decorated. My go-to is the Benji Roll but it's easy to find something that works for you. I'd stay away from the egg rolls and the calamari... not the best in town.
google avatar

Merry J.

Yelp
The service was awesome. We got seated quickly and our waitress was attentive. The yellowtail jalapeños was so good, ate in within 5 mins lol. The salmon and yellowtail just melts in your mouth. My husband got the trinity roll-said it was perfect and you don't feel bloated after eating it. Will come again
google avatar

Philip S.

Yelp
First time trying and I'll definitely be back. The spicy salmon was my favorite. My wife had the steak hibachi and really enjoyed that.

Yelp
This place was sent to me to try so I figured why not... I am not disappointed. Japanese cuisine and sushi are by far favorite foods. I'm pleased that this establishment offers fairly authentic options as well as Americanized options. The building is located in a strip mall but dont let that fool you. The layout inside is quaint, clean, and private without being forgotten. There is also a sushi bar you can sit at with itamae working behind the protective plastics as well as a full bar. I came in for a late lunch around 2p.m. on a Tuesday. After seating myself, the waitress appeared to be the only one on the floor for a decent flow hour i was there. She approached and answered a few of my questions before bringing my drink and taking my order all in a timely mannered without feeling rushed. I am often rushed out of places when i dine alone but the staff here are welcoming without a peep of judgement. As my meal progressed I noticed this is a popular place for single lunch diners. The food I absolutely love that they have a bento lunch option that comes with a small salad with ginger dressing and miso soup as well as your choice of meat, steamed white rice, 2 pork dumplings, and 4 pieces of California roll. I also ordered their lunch roll special, 2 for 10.95 or 3 for 13.95. I definitely ordered 3. I got the Shrimp Tempura, which is my go to since pregnancy, the Wildcat, and the Bagel (highly suggest) rolls. I ordered the beef bulgogi bento lunch. Although fairly dry, it came out hot and smelling amazing. The rice was fluffy and the right texture. The ginger dressing (made in house) was really quite good and I'd love to take a bottle home! The salad was just lettuce and the miso soup, dumplings, and Cali roll are tasty but nothing special. Very good value and filling. My total for all this food was $28.71 and I'm pleased to sat I have dinner and maybe lunch for tomorrow. Not a perfect experience but certainly close. Over all a great, mid-week experience and I have bookmarked them to visit again when I am passing through. Give em a try!

Kadence O.

Yelp
I just wanna say the food here is just amazing, especially the Fusion rolls. The service is amazing & always so kind.

Yelp
Great food, delightful & friendly server. What's not to like? Restaurant was clean too.
google avatar

Yelp
This place went through a recent renovation and it looks great! The sushi here is always fresh and the food consistent. My default order is the Fuji Mountain ( with eel sauce added), shrimp and veggie tempura, and an avocado salad. My husband loves the Super Yummy roll (a big congrats to them on getting him to eat/love soft shell crab). The customer service is wonderful and this is definitely our favorite spot for sushi in South KC. Try them out and support a small business. You won't be disappointed!

Fatima M.

Yelp
Food was delicious. Restaurant was clean and orderly. Service was efficient and fast. Prices were very reasonable. What else could you want from a restaurant?!?
google avatar

Joe K.

Yelp
I came here for happy hour with a friend. We ordered $2 individual sake (which was a good deal to me). Service was really good. Our waitress checked up on us the right amount and had a pleasant attitude as we ordered more items throughout our meal. We started off with beef potstickers, and it had a more korean style/feel to the taste. I liked it. Then we each ordered a las vegas roll for ourselves from the happy hour. It was good, but not the best I ever had. All the sushi from happy hour was roughly a $1.50 off. I would order it again, but I may try the pretty women next time. I ordered the calamari next for $8 I think. It was not worth it. I think it was just frozen squid that was tempura fried. We ordered the mount fuji next off the regular menu, and that was the best thing we had out of what we ordered. Had multiple flavors to it that complemented each other, and I would definitely order that again ($15). Overall, I would go back with friends, but I may have to order off the regular menu, and pick more of the higher end items.

Yelp
1. Love the atmosphere, looks great after changing up the restaurant . 2. The service is great, waitresses consistently come back to check up during the meal and are very kind. 3. The sushi is excellent. The presentation is beautiful. One of my favorite rolls here is the heart attack (a sushi chef's take on a jalapeño popper) it's amazing if you like spicy. The benji roll is also excellent and the fried onions on top really make the roll. THE CALAMARI. Unlike anything I have had in the midwest. It's so soft and fried to perfection unlike the rubbery calamari that is served at so many restaurants. 4. Will definitely keep coming back.

Yelp
We just LOVE this place!! The samuari roll is our favorite, but the kids have loved the shaggy dog since they were young. This year we celebrated our daughters graduation with sushi for her grad party and the owner made us a great deal and beautiful tasty sushi!! It was so much fun & even got my 82 year old overall wearing uncle to try it and he liked it! I also love that they make their own low sodium soy sauce!! Who does that?!? Due to the party I found out they sell the soy sauce so each time we come in we purchase some to take home. It is just SOOOO much better than anything you can buy off the shelf! Small batch soy sauce in KC! If you haven't tried this place you are missing out....

Yelp
Sushi Haru is a new one on our list of "favorites". We tried stopping by a few months back but they were closed for construction. Finally made it by after the construction finished... worth it! Staff is always friendly and smiling. Never have to wait for a table. Wish to see this place a bit busier.... their food is quite good! Sushi is fresh, always quick to the table and the wait staff is always attentive. My criticism of this place would be their drinks. Pours are pretty small... the martini glass is typically only half full... fairly priced for a martini but when you get the drink, even the $5.50 seem steep for the mini-pour. Menu is great, specialty rolls are delish. Give it a try!
google avatar

Steph W.

Yelp
Ate here about a month ago. We ordered the Dancing Bull roll, a Spicy Tuna roll, and a Firecracker roll. Neither of us were very impressed, unfortunately. The sushi just didn't taste fresh and was not super favorable. Additionally, we waited easily 20 minutes to be seated. Clearly this is a popular place as it was PACKED, it just wasn't too our liking.
google avatar

Matthew M.

Yelp
Been here a lot before covid, now it looks like they completely remodeled restaurant and menu. Looks great! Dont have Soba noodles anymore but rest looks like it's here. Good food, never crowded, and staff is nice.
google avatar

Porter K.

Yelp
The food was outstanding, the service was smooth and friendly, lastly the ambiance was breath taking. This place is a 5 star from me any day of the week. The fish was so delicious I couldn't get enough.

John B.

Yelp
Best crab Rangoon I've ever had. They make it fresh everyday from scratch is what I was told! Delicious
google avatar

Madi M.

Yelp
Delicious! Sushi was very good, tasted fresh. Went back a few weeks later to try the hibachi. Got the KC strip, boyfriend got the teriyaki chicken and KC strip, the chick was so delicious! Very flavorful and juicy!
google avatar

Sherika F.

Yelp
I always drive past this place on my way to the store. I'm glad that I finally stopped and gave Sushi Haru a try! The establishment is very clean and the space is big. There are plenty of tables and chairs available. This place does have a full bar which is a great touch to the restaurant. I ordered Spicy Roll Combination (pick 3 roll types) and it came with miso soup. Usually when I get a spicy roll from other establishments, it is not spicy at all. Well I was pleasantly surprised by Sushi Haru spicy rolls. Not only did I receive a great portion but it actually had a hint of spice to it. The spice really gave my rolls a nice kick!

Emily P.

Yelp
Without a doubt, this sushi restaurant reigns supreme. The service it offers is absolutely outstanding! I'm enamored by the remarkable speed and friendliness displayed by the entire staff.
google avatar

Chloe B.

Yelp
The food is great, but don't even bother ordering for carry out unless you're ready to wait an extra hour for your food! Our food wasn't ready until 30 minutes later than the estimated time window on a previous order, which is fine if it happens once every now and then. But tonight, our order wasn't ready until an hour and 15 minutes later than the estimated time window. I understand things get busy, but we didn't get our carry out order until 2 hours after we ordered it! There was a crowd in there today as we waited that was also waiting over an hour for their food. It's honestly just not worth it. And they didn't seem to care that it was late either. I love to support small, local businesses and this place has great food, but having to wait over an hour past the estimated time window is just unacceptable. Take your business elsewhere.

Yelp
Many families have traditions. Our family has had a new years eve tradition for about six years now, and it's one of my favorites. This tradition is called "Eating The Best Sushi In Kansas City to Welcome the New Year". Every year, this tradition takes place at one restaurant alone: Sushi Haru. Don't get me wrong - all time of year is a good time to enjoy The Best Sushi in Kansas City, which this is. Since moving to Kansas City, we've been to Sushi Haru no less than 400 times. I'm sure. I've counted. We've tried nearly every maki roll on the menu, and they're all aces. Our entire favorites list is too long for such a post, but our top five are, in no particular order: Cherry Blossom, Boss Roll, Shaggy Dog, Salmon Special Roll, and White Dragon Roll. And the Dynamite Roll. And the Pretty Woman roll. And the MachuPichu roll. You get the point. But seriously, you could close your eyes and point to random food on the menu and not be disappointed. The sushi is like artwork on a plate. The guys at the sushi bar are black-belt fresh-fish pros. Order enough, and you'll get your eats served on a fun, wooden ship. Yes, it's in a strip mall. Yes, that's patio furniture you're sitting at. And yes, most of the time the music leaves something to be desired. But, if you go to a sushi restaurant for good sushi, then this is the only place you go in The City of Fountains. Either side of State Line. Food = 6/5 Facility = 3/5 Service = 3/5 Ambiance = 2/5 Value = 3/5

Yelp
I love love love this place!!! I ordered sushi online. It was ready when I arrived and everyone was polite. Amazing atmosphere and food!. I was really impressed and pleased with my order. They also have great lunch specials that are worth it.

Richard B.

Yelp
The sushi is good, but the take out service is absolutely horrendous. Orders are consistently 30 minutes or more later than the time indicated when ordering online. Shame on us for continuing to order from Sushi Haru and expecting a different result. Perhaps the in-dining experience is better, but if you order take out, I'd suggest that you arrive 20-30 minutes later than the suggested time.

Meg A.

Yelp
Great food. Good service. We both eat in and carry out! Best ginger salad dressing in town!
