Sushi Kiwami - Review - Yonge-Bloor - Toronto - The Infatuation

"Sushi Kiwami serves top-tier sushi at the bottom of a condo building in an area packed with bubble tea shops and butter chicken roti takeout joints. Kiwami means "the ultimate," and we agree with the name—the omakase is a masterclass in precision and restraint, focused around seafood flown in from Japan. It comes grilled, stewed, or aged in a custom-build himuro icebox, and the meal peaks with Edomae sushi including beautifully braided gizzard shad and uni wrapped with in melty-soft, soy-glazed kombu, all served on rice seasoned with a delicate blend of Kyoto red vinegars. It’s a place for special occasions only—while it’s not the priciest Japanese restaurant in Toronto, at $299 per person, it’s close." - Renée Suen

Chef was very friendly and service was very attentive! Their crab dishes were so flavourful and we lucked out because it’s seasonal. The wagyu dish was also good. The melon dessert was very sweet just like what we’ve had in Japan. What’s unique about this place is you get to have wagyu, crab and Japanese fruits, beyond the typical sushi omakase. Really enjoyed our dinner here ♥️

One of the best omakase in Toronto. Their ingredients are fresh and directly imported from Japan. The dessert (Melon shortcake) was the cherry on top. Not only the full experience was amazing but the chef was so friendly and kind! The service was perfect. 100% would recommend! 🤩

We came to Sushi Kiwami for lunch to celebrate my wife’s birthday, and it was a wonderful experience. The sushi was extremely fresh and beautifully prepared, and you can really tell a lot of care goes into every piece. The atmosphere was calm and welcoming, and the staff were attentive without being intrusive. It made the birthday celebration feel special and memorable. We’ll definitely be back.

An unforgettable omakase experience at Sushi Kiwami with Chef Yuta Arase! My arrival at Sushi Kiwami had me amazed with the tranquility and the sophisticated yet simple woody interior, warm lights, spotless dining area, and perfect details that almost made it seem like it was transported straight from Japan . In my opinion Chef Yuta Arase is the epitome of culinary mastery. Precision, creativity, and real love for the art of cooking were the qualities present in each dish. The flavor balance, texture, and styling were flawless as well - from the taste layered appetizers to the sushi that melted in your mouth. Quality and technique were the two elements that became evident in every single bite. The enthusiasm of Chef Yuta can be felt in every serving that goes out and his calm, funny, and attentive demeanor made the meal more intimate. The staff were very considerate, and everything went smoothly from the beginning up to the end of the meal. If you are looking for an excellent omakase experience at an intimate and authentic place, Sushi Kiwami should be your first choice. Absolutely recommended. Thank you, Chef Yuta, for an unforgettable night.

This restaurant impressed me with its creativity. The fall-inspired appetizer plate showed how thoughtful and inventive the chef is with seasonal ingredients. The fig paired with monkfish liver in a crisp monaka, and the persimmon and shrimp in a silky tofu sauce, both gentle yet memorable. It is so rare to find this level of imagination in Japanese cuisine here, and the warm, fun chef made the experience even more enjoyable. I will definitely come back to see what chef Yuta can offer with winter ingredients!

The chef had a great sense of humor and offered such an enjoyable hospitality. 🍣👏Not only his conversational skills but also his professional service were excellent. We could even choose our favorite design of traditional Japanese cups and enjoy our drinks in them.😊

Overall it’s a good experience but over priced considering the level of service and ingredients they used 1. Appetizer design: start with the fish soup. It was amazing. 2. And another set of small dishes was disappointment. The small crab as a seller point. But I’m here mostly for the taste and food. The presentation is not something I care the most if the taste is not there. 3. Fishes: puff fish was a hype for majority of the costumer. But deep fried puff fish was so heavy and greasy for me. Couldn’t finish. 4. Sashimi: love the blue fin tuna as well as the white shrimp. Beside that. Not so many things were meet my expectations. Btw. Uni was perfect perfect too. But chef mentioned it’s only available one month of the year. So if u come different time. I won’t expect the same quality. 5. Dessert: highlight of the menu and highlight of the restaurant. The only thing I truly remember after I left the restaurant. 6. Peach sake: really don’t like this bottle of sake. Artificially sweet and surprise they didn’t ask how we like the drink or how is our preference for drink. 7. Alternatives: basically hard and difficult for them to do any alternatives based on ur preference for the dish. Which is understandable as lots of dishes were pre-designed and pre-prepared. 8. Environment: same small room with group of other people. Based on the luck who is in ur room. Hopefully they are not as loud
