"Sushi Kiwami serves top-tier sushi at the bottom of a condo building in an area packed with bubble tea shops and butter chicken roti takeout joints. Kiwami means "the ultimate," and we agree with the name—the omakase is a masterclass in precision and restraint, focused around seafood flown in from Japan. It comes grilled, stewed, or aged in a custom-build himuro icebox, and the meal peaks with Edomae sushi including beautifully braided gizzard shad and uni wrapped with in melty-soft, soy-glazed kombu, all served on rice seasoned with a delicate blend of Kyoto red vinegars. It’s a place for special occasions only—while it’s not the priciest Japanese restaurant in Toronto, at $299 per person, it’s close." - Renée Suen
