18 Knockout Spots for Affordable Dining in Portland

"The number of conveyor belt sushi restaurants in Portland is frustratingly small, though not nonexistent. Sushi Ohana has maintained the integrity of this dine-in-centric style of cuisine, offering stacks of rotating California rolls, nigiri, and tempura. Thanks to the classic five-tier pricing style, it’s easy to spend less than $10 while dining in, since even the “priciest” plates of higher-quality fish remain less than $5. During the busier lunch and dinner rushes, the trays are loaded, making it possible to get a meal in less than 30 minutes." - Katrina Yentch, Eater Staff

I've been to many sushi places in the state of Oregon, especially Portland, but this place is just like the others. Just another common sushi place. Not bad, not good, but mediocre. It's a place you'd go if you're nearby and craving sushi quickly, straight off the train. Food: 2/5 This place hasrubber chicken and mediocre "crab". That sums it up. But, if you're just out for a night in the town craving seaweed salad and tamago, this is your place. I got the California Roll and Seaweed Salad. The California Roll really wasn't anything special, I had better at other places. The Seaweed Salad on the other hand was amazing, I'd go as far and say delectable. It was juicy and made correctly. My acquaintances got the chicken noodles. She said the chicken was dry. I had a taste and I agreed, it was also rubbery. My other acquaintance got the Seared Salmon and liked it. Obviously the food wasn't anything special, but serves its purpose. Service: 3/5 The service here has some really nice and patience waiters. Though there is one big thing I need to mention, and the reason I gave it a 3: The language barrier. Waiters speak a little bit of English, and had trouble trying to hear what my acquaintances were saying, leading to one of them getting lemonade, instead of their "Ramune". But, they were very nice overall. Atmosphere: 4/5 Besides the "okay" food, the atmosphere was really nice. They had Japanese paintings of people, scriptures, and nice lighting. The only reason this isn't a 5 is because it feels very cramped inside.

Google
This place used to be my go-to lunch spot for over a decade, especially during happy hour—but it’s completely gone downhill. The food was never amazing, but decent for a sushi train. Now, the service is awful and borderline shady. One of the cooks refuses to take orders unless a waiter is present to repeat it back right in front of you. On top of that, he randomly overcharges during happy hour, claiming the same items I’ve ordered hundreds of times are suddenly “excluded.” Total lack of consistency, professionalism, and honesty. Avoid now unless they do something with their cook and service.

Google
It's great for cheap sushi, but the staff seems completely out of it. They'll bring one cup of water for two people and then it's 10+ minutes to bring a second cup. If you order takeout, they'll put hot items right next to cold items. My friend asked for spicy mayo to dip calamari in and they insisted they didn't have it, yet it was on several rolls.

-First time here and food was good, place was not full for a weekend lunch, would be back for the happy hour. -Only thing I didn’t like was, I ordered mussels and they took to long to get to me, and when I received cheese was hard. -There’s parking next to building $4, or you can park by the street for free.

Google
It is a fairly standard sushi place, BUT they have good food, decent prices and they are nice. I like it, and I do eat here quite often. The staff is nice which is pretty important to me at least.. AND they have served me, even close to closing time, which is REALLY nice when you're starving, or have a date with you or whatever!!

Google
Hands down the best conveyor belt sushi in town. They must have a good relationship with their fishmonger! Lots of sustainable options and very well cut generous portions of fish. I have been going here for almost 20 years and I will continue to go back

Google
One of the best price sushi spots in the Portland area. Decent rolls served conveyor style. Happy with my dining experience, though I wouldn’t go again.

Google
Delicious sushi for a very competitive price. Loved all the varieties of sushi we tried. However didn’t like the Shrimp Udon and Miso soup. Service was very very poor. Servers were indifferent to customers and behaved very weird. Anything we ordered (that was not on the belt) took almost 15 minutes to arrive. Very difficult to find parking. They have a few parking spots which are almost always full. We had had to park at a free parking which was 3-4 minutes walking distance from the restaurant.

Yelp
Our reliable sushi spot! Sushi Ohana is a small sushi restaurant on Broadway right next to Pastini. Service is usually always fast unless there's a wait but they're good at paying attention to who's coming in the door and welcoming them. My favorite roll from here is the dragon roll, they usually always have it on the conveyer belt but it is a popular one so If they don't have it you can always request some to be made! I love that this location is always very speedy and friendly, it's helpful for when I'm in a rush but want some good fresh sushi.

Yelp
A Deeply Disappointing and Repeated Experience with Discrimination I'm Black, originally from East Africa, and have lived in beautiful Oregon since 2018. While I've always hoped to avoid racism, my repeated experiences at Ohana Sushi have been deeply upsetting. Ohana is close to my apartment and a regular hangout spot near Peet's Coffee. The first time I sensed something was off was a few years ago -- subtle but unmistakable. I was alone and tried to rationalize it as a long day for the staff. The second time, I went with a friend (also East African), and we were treated with blatant disrespect by the same two staff members -- a man and a woman. It felt very clear it was due to our accents and skin color. My friend even addressed it directly. After that, I stopped going for a long time. Post-COVID, I returned a few times and didn't see the same staff. I was treated well and hoped the past was behind me. But in 2024, I unfortunately encountered them again -- and once again, I experienced cold, unwelcoming behavior. Whispering behind me in another language, laughing while looking at me -- the message was clear, even if not verbal. But what happened on Memorial Day 2025 was the last straw. Craving sushi, I considered other spots, but they were closed. Against my gut feeling, I walked into Ohana -- and saw the same male staff member. I tried to avoid him, but he approached to take my order. I asked for water and some ginger. Instead of simply helping, he gave me a long, uncomfortable stare and pressed me repeatedly to order more. When I said I was fine, he muttered something in Japanese and then asked why I still come to the restaurant -- a statement that felt like a clear dismissal of my presence. I stood up feeling deeply unwelcome and angry. None of the other staff intervened or showed any concern. I've also noticed how African American customers are treated there -- especially if they're alone or not accompanied by someone white. It's 2025 -- and no one should have to feel this way. Needless to say, I will not be returning. But I'm sharing this review because staying silent only protects those who think this behavior is acceptable. We all deserve dignity and respect -- regardless of where we come from or what we look like.

Yelp
This is a chill place. Went on a date here and the atmosphere was pretty laid back, the portions were pretty substantial. The desserts are yummy too very attentive servers.

Yelp
This place is just across the street from where I work. I have been getting lunch here for near two years now and have never been disappointed. Amazing food and even better service. Staff is super nice and the vibes inside the building are super chill and relaxed.

Yelp
Ohana is amazing at what it is: A no-frills budget friendly sushi conveyer belt and take out staple. I think we have eaten here 15+ times in the past year, and every time we want to branch out and eat elsewhere, we always return to this place. It's cheap, the fish is solid for the price, and the service is easy/quick. This is not the place to take a sushi snob or a high-maintenance friend. This is the place to go when you are starving with a hankering for salmon nigiri or a spicy tuna roll and you don't want to spend $50+ per person to walk away still a little hungry. It's good for solos or couples because everything is 2 pieces of nigiri or a 4 piece half roll so you can get a large variety without a large group. You can show up here in sweat pants, sweaty after gym class, or on a quick lunch break. You will eat until you are convinced you could enter a competitive eating championship, and win, and then you still would have only probably spent $30 a person (maybe not even). It's made sushi an affordable weekly reality, and I'm so happy about it. Don't expect 5 star service, but you can also order whatever you want to order off the regular menu and they will bring it. I also LOVE this place for carry out or delivery.

Yelp
While I was in Portland, I was looking for a quick bite before heading home to my brother's. My palate was looking for sushi and one of my favourite place to go was in Cancouver WA and I definitely didn't want to drive all the way up there. So I searched fir the nearest sushi place and honestly it was overwhelming since I was in downtown PDX and the list was too long to look. I decided to check the first three and decided on the closest one, you guessed right! I enjoyed my time and loved the hefty serving. It satisfied my sushi craving for sure. I shall visit again next time I fly into Portland.

Yelp
Quick place to grab some sushi and other dishes. The host is friendly and will sit you down quick. You can choose items from the conveyor belt or order some special items. I ordered the chicken hibachi and my friends picked some items out from the belt.

Yelp
Good price for conveyor belt sushi. We ordered a lot of sushi and it all came very fast.

Yelp
I love this place! The food is good for conveyor belt style, which I also love for the wide variety I get to try. The prices are very reasonable and the service is great! I want to come here every time I'm in Portland.

Yelp
Not bad for lunchtime sushi conveyer belt place. 4 tiers of pricing (by color of plate), $2.55 - $4.95. Solid for quick and easy. Crisp Sapporo beer makes a nice complement! We had seaweed salad, Inaru, octopus, unagi, fried shrimp.

Yelp
we wanted to return to sushi ohana and did so for lunch today...i had a kirin lager, and she had warm sake.........next i had the calif roll, seaweed salad, and a couple of other rolls with cucumber and salmon...she had the pepper tuna/cucumber, mackerel roll, spider roll, poke salmon, and a couple of others....she ordered the mackerel roll and it didn't take long at all...the food was delicious and affordable...it is very relaxing, and fun....the staff is very friendly and stays on top of everything......the building is so cozy and vintage.........thx so much...

Yelp
Totally decent conveyor belt sushi with some awesome happy hour deals. As far as conveyor belt sushi goes it's totally solid. It's fresh and the portion sizes are nice. They offer a good variety of stuff too and, of course, you can always order from the menu.

Yelp
Nothing wrong with this place for a quick and relatively cheap meal. The place is clean, the folks are pleasant and the sushi- belt experience is interesting and fun. And, nothing wrong with the sushi, not particularly to my taste, too much goop over the rolls but perfectly palatable. My partner really liked the tempura. So nice, middle of the road food- but it's not fine dining or particularly great fish. So quick and cheap- what's not to like just adjust your expectations and relax.
google avatar

Makenna R.

Yelp
So good. Have gone here for years. Very reasonably priced and delicious. Wish they still had their 11 o'clock happy hour for lunch, but overall a great spot.

Yelp
There are four sushi restaurants in a 3 block radius, two are super expensive, another has a conveyor belt also but the sushi is meh. Sushi Ohana crushes it every time. They kept up with take out orders throughout the dark times, and are back up and running per usual. Sometimes they're super busy and catching a server to throw down a custom roll can be tough, so if you're in a hurry, rock the excellent sush on the belt. Try the onion topped salmon nigiri - it will rejuvenate the rest of your day. Unless you don't like salmon, in which case, you might want to get that checked out as that's just tragic. If I had to whine about anything it would be that they've had the radio playing in the background complete with commercials the last 6 times I've been in there, and dang - time to sign up for a music app.
google avatar

Yelp
The menu was pretty good, and the conveyer belt selections met most of my hankerings for some sushi in Portland after not having been here for almost a year and a half. Salmon slices were superbly generous on the rice and salmon nigiri pieces on the conveyer belt. I enjoyed a cup of miso soup as well between the selections off the conveyer belt and the pieces I ordered off the menu. I checked out and paid very quickly, but the wait was over ten minutes for a dining party of just myself. Looking forward to coming back here again. The color coding of the plates' pricing was really clear and visible with the prices and plate colors displayed on the wall.

Yelp
Some of the better nigiri around. Took a sushi class from a Portland Chef who said they purchase their fish at the same place Bamboo does
google avatar

Rachel A.

Yelp
This is our go-to spot for sushi delivery and we like it a lot. Prices are very reasonable and food is good. Can't speak to the service as we've never dined in, but I highly recommend for reasonably priced good sushi.
google avatar

Scooter L.

Yelp
Almost all of the rolls at places like this use fish that has been macerated into a baby food consistency and covered with so much spicy mayo that you can't enjoy what once was a fish. Some of the rolls have been on that merry-go-round for a while. When the avocado goes brown it's time to get off that conveyor... We counted the plates and used our calculator to know what the bill would be but they overcharged us anyway. So in review; baby food fish, old 'cado, and added a plate to the bill. The search for sushi continues.
google avatar

Johnny L.

Yelp
For conveyor belt quality sushi, this is probably the best in Portland.. The service is attentive They have a large selection already made that spins-around-and-around Best roll is their Dragon Roll.. everything else is good like the Mackerel Nigiri Price is nice Shared building restroom Oh yeah.. good tasting water to go with that fish

Yelp
Gave this sushi track place a try before a hockey game as i knew it would be quick and our son requested sushi. Happily, it was as good as the other reviews state, and we enjoyed our dinner and were pleased to add another track sushi place to our roster. Happy hour is the way to go if you have a big appetite or hungry teen. Plates were $2.20 which is a nice savings off the $3.50 black plates, which had the best rolls. We thought the salmon was fresh and tasty. Rolls were good-sized and the chefs kept the track full. They'll make you anything you don't see on the track; I had them make me a tuna poke plate and it was great! Street parking or there's a pay lot next door. We'll be back! Great to have another pre-game option not too far from Moda.

Yelp
Super friendly, fast service and for conveyor sushi and reasonable prices the food is great!
google avatar

Erin S.

Yelp
Consistently fantastic sushi every time we go here! It's one of the few buffet-style sushi places here in Portland and dishes are made super fresh so there's no stale-dishes on their conveyor belt. My son and I have eaten here about a dozen times in the past here, and every single time has been impressive, no disappointing things to mention here. The servers are attentive and friendly, and for us, the conveyor style belt was the reason we started coming here, but the deliciousness of the food and friendliness of the service is why we have stayed. Try it, you'll like it!

Cheyenna S.

Yelp
Was my go to sushi belt place. Decent sushi, fast service, and not too spendy. But unfortunately I got food poising from them yesterday (7/27/24). I got two tsunami rolls and I believe one spicy crab. Left feeling off immediately and was throwing up within 2 hours and continued for the next day. Still not feeling great. Won't be going back
google avatar

Kerry B.

Yelp
Love this place for a quick salmon nigiri or rainbow roll. Always fresh and great service!
google avatar

Tricia S.

Yelp
It was just okay ... staff was friendly, there was no wait at lunch time on a Monday, but the food itself was just okay. No tickets at the table to make special order for special rolls or menu items. The sushi belt was full, and kept full, with a variety of plates but there is no labels (and a lot of it looks similar) which kept us looking at each plate to be sure we were grabbing the correct one. Plates were $2 (and some change) each. Some parking nearby - 1 hour street parking in front. It's a decent place for a quick bite but I doubt I'll be back ... just not for me.
google avatar

Judy B.

Yelp
We went on a Friday night! Got right in! Sat up at the conveyor belt. Nice thing is they have high chairs that are high enough to sit up at the conveyor as well. Attentive staff. The roll selection coming thru was amazing!! A lot of fresh tuna! If they didn't have something you wanted they can whip it up for you in a minute. We left full! For three of us it was around $50 which I think is a great deal for fresh sushi in the city. We will return here again! So glad they are doing conveyor belt sushi again since covid. Wished we lived closer to visit more often! I didn't get any pictures because we were too busy eating it all
google avatar

Marshall S.

Yelp
Went at around 7pm on a Saturday night and the place was popping. Yet somehow there was no chefs making new sushi. Was excited to enjoy some sushi conveyor belt style, but the same 5 sushi dishes all filled with mayonnaise continued revolving around the entire time we were there. The few that were eaten were very subpar. If you have a busy restaurant with a conveyor belt, I cannot imagine why you wouldn't be making new sushi to add to it. At one point there was a mere 3 dishes on the long belt, 2 of which were seaweed. Disappointed and will not be returning.
google avatar

Dave K.

Yelp
Firsr conveyor belt sushi since pandemic. Clean. Feels safe. Fish is good. Maybe there really is an end in sight! Yay!
google avatar

Kristel g.

Yelp
Gave us food poisoning We tried this new place out and the tuna / salmon got us sick and we are with food poisoning
google avatar

Christine L.

Yelp
Yummy. Reasonable prices. Very good quality. Fun ambiance. I had to request a few things because they didn't have them on the conveyor belt but they were very quick and kind about getting them.
google avatar

Daniel S.

Yelp
Surprisingly good though the salmon tastes like farm-raised blandness but the seared version is an improvement and the rolls were quite well done though the dragon was heavy on the unpeeled cucumber and light on the BBQ eel. Would try it at the restaurant for peak quality.
google avatar

Angie Y.

Yelp
Awful last dining experience in Portland, Oregon. After having a delicious donut from the famous Voodoo donut we came here for their lunch which was served conveyor belt. All of the sushi was awful - I couldn't even get myself to like the nigiri which I normally find to be decent if I stick to the classics like salmon and tuna. The rolls were made with rice so tightly packed it was texturally off. The fish inside (I tried a few) like spicy tuna and a few of the fried rolls were bland, didn't taste fresh and grinded into a weird texture. Not only was all the raw fish extra fishy - the rice was also just poorly made. Mushy and tasted almost of no vinegar. There was also such a lack of variety spinning on the conveyor belt. They had the same 5-6 items in bulk and nobody was taking them so there was no space for the chefs to put on any more plates. Also their happy hour is weird - from 3-5 all plates are 2 dollars but there are a ton of green plates that are originally 1.35 that they were charging at $2! That makes no sense!! Overall it was a disappointing way to finish off my food packed road trip. I highly recommend you avoid this place - I left wondering if I was going to have food poisoning.

Yelp
Been to this sushi conveyer belt several times and have had delicious & fresh sushi each time. If you are looking for freshly made conveyer belt sushi, with lots of sushi options, and friendly staff, look no further. They stand out when it comes to this kind of dining, as I watched staff remove old sushi off the conveyer belt- which is somewhat of a rarity. Nothing to complain about just 4 stars because at the end of the day it's still quick conveyer belt style sushi.
google avatar

The D.

Yelp
Great affordable spot. Staff is super helpful, rolls are constantly being rotated and menu choices will be freshly made request. Oregon Roll was Da Bomb!

Lily W.

Yelp
Salmon and escolar were good! Good portions for a good price. They seemed a little understaffed but were doing their best
google avatar

Gina R.

Yelp
I moved to Utah and miss sushi from here. I lived in my apartments in Portland for six years and ordered weekly (often more) and I'm just now writing my review, jeez I'm lazy! I loved the salmon nigri couldn't get enough of it and I'm salivating thinking about it. Loved everything on the menu. Only complaint is to have the option of ordering spicy Mayo on the Uber eats app as we always had to make our own.
google avatar

Savanna P.

Yelp
DO NOT EAT HERE! There is so many reasons why. 1) they are so rude to you when you are ordering or picking up. 2) they take FOREVER to get you your food. 3) they ALWAYS forget some of my order and by the time I wait 30 minutes to get my food, I don't want to wait another half hour to get the rest of the food THAT I PAID FOR. 4) they are not clean at all. I saw them all eating and not washing their hands before touching food again. DISGUSTING. 5) when they give you your food after the half hour you wait (I've waited up to an hour and a half before) they don't even say anything. No "sorry for the wait" no "thank you for being patient" or even "here is your food!" They literally won't say anything to you just hand you your food. DO NOT SPEND YOUR MONEY HERE.
google avatar

Nyla M.

Yelp
The staff work their butts off. The people flock for the happy hour sushi so yeah, sometimes you're gonna have to wait. But it's decent quality sushi go round. Always fresh. And they make avocado rolls to order for me every time I come in. Which, given the affordability to fillability to decency ratio, is fairly often. I also order the salmon. Salmon and avocado rolls. That's my thing here. Three stars for the quality of the sushi. The extra star is for the very hard working staff who are always polite, even after loooooong f-ing shifts.
google avatar

Gozer G.

Yelp
Sushi is fine. Service is consistently bad. And I'm not expecting a lot from sushi train service. But ordering a drink seems to be toi much for the waitresses who stare at their phones all day long. The only reason I come here is because it's the only sushi in the neighborhood. Please someone else come and open up a sushi shop in Lloyd! I will go every day!
google avatar

Lauren C.

Yelp
5 stars for a sushi track restaurant! Good quality and variety. Attentive and speedy service. Clean and welcoming space. The happy hour is fabulous. A new favorite place for me and my little ones lunch dates. 2018 #21
google avatar

Allison H.

Yelp
I've ordered sushi from here a handful of times and am yet to be disappointed. Is this the absolute best sushi in Portland? Nah. But it's easily the best sushi I have found at this price point. The rolls are portioned smaller (like 4-6 pieces) which I love because I can order several different ones without feeling like a pig or breaking the bank.
google avatar

Eric O.

Yelp
Might be a decent place for cheap sushi, but as a delivery driver I will be avoiding this place in the future. I've picked up here at least 10 times or so and they have me waiting 10-15 minutes every time. As I'm writing this review I'm waiting on an order they requested a driver for 35 minutes ago.
google avatar

Eli W.

Yelp
Not the best sushi in town but..by far the best best bang for your buck you will ever find. Due to the small samples and prices you can absolutely taste test everything. Solid.
google avatar

Brian B.

Yelp
First time eating here. Food was prepared well and great taste. Prices were very reasonable. Had to track down a server for drinks as there was no attentiveness by the wait staff. I would recommend trying this place out.
google avatar

Jake M.

Yelp
FOOD POISONING! I thought I had covid after I had takeout from here. A fever, headache, 2 rolls of TP, and a negative covid test later, I confirmed what I assumed to be food poisoning. Sushi was my favorite meal until this place ruined that for me. (Not going to lie, it was tasty) but it came with a price..

Yelp
My co-worker and I were looking for a good sushi joint so we came here after an Uber driver suggested it. The first thing that caught my attention was that they had conveyor belts with an endless amount of sushi and appetizer choices. I have always wanted to go to a sushi restaurant that had that (it's the little things). But because it was our first time, I wasn't even sure what anything even was on the belt, so we just special ordered what we wanted. They have a pretty good menu to select from and the best part is that it's so unbelievably cheap. Happy hour is from 11-5 and sushi is under $2!!! However, we missed 5pm by like 15 minutes but all sushi was I wanna say under $5 per roll. Regardless, it's the cheapest sushi I've ever eaten and it's good quality too. I think we each got like 5 rolls each (each roll is 4 pieces). Another thing that was cool was they price things out by color of your plate so they don't take your order on a pad, they price it out by color. Our waitress was okay. She got our drinks and occasionally checked on us. It's not the type of restaurant where they attend to your table since it is bar seating for the most part. They just take your sushi order and that's it. You pay at the counter. It seemed to be in a somewhat popular area. There were other businesses and restaurants surrounding it. Overall, I was pretty satisfied with the food and experience.
google avatar

Ophelia Y.

Yelp
Ok, so I've never actually eaten here, but I've gotten takeout on several occasions. So far, they haven't really let me down. Their happy hour is that if you pay for your food before 5pm, it's $1.95 per plate, which isn't bad. I usually get A TON of stuff, and the reason for docking a star is that there's often some sort of mistake with big orders, so lately I've kept them small. The people who work here are Chinese, even though it's sushi, and I can hear the frustration and slight language barrier when I correct the order at pick up, even when trying to verify it over the phone before hanging up. The qualify and value of the sushi is good. It's not fancy, it's not pretentious. But it's good for what you pay for.

Yelp
I've been to some excellent Sushi restaurants and go to Bamboo Sushi regularly. Sushi Ohana is an excellent sushi boat experience. The ingredients are very fresh, the staff courteous, and the options are diverse. Their pepper crusted seared ahi is particularly good. Their nigiri is also wonderful. The prices are very reasonable. I took my daughter and we ordered a standard amount of food and the bill only came to $25. Highly recommended for as sushi boat experience!!!
