Well that sucked.
I haven't been to this location in about 3 or 4 years. Last time I was there the food and service were fantastic and the place was absolutely packed. This time around the food was awful. From the look of things I think they had a change in ownership.
We decided to go there for dinner last night and at around 7:30 pm on a Thursday there was only one other table occupied. I should have taken that as a sign that things weren't good and went somewhere else, but we decided to push forward.
As for the food, we had a party of and 5 we got a variety of sushi rolls, the keto salmon skin fries, the fried rice and the steak teriyaki.
I'll start out with what was good. I actually ordered a salmon jalapeño roll but wound up getting the Spice Girl roll which was spicy tuna and avocado and sliced salmon on top. Even though it was wrong, it was pretty good. The sauce that came with it was actually quite spicy, I really enjoyed it. I also got the Big Bopper which was a tempura covered roll with salmon and tuna. This one tasted a little bit off to me like the oil in the fryer needed changing or the rice was old. Maybe both. The fish was completely nondescript as well, so it was like eating weird tasting fried rice globs. And it was $23!
From what I heard from everyone else the other rolls were either average or not good. The California rolls had a weird taste to the rice as well and the fish didn't seem that fresh. Same for the tuna and crispy rice roll.
My wife got the steak teriyaki and fried rice and she said it was horrible. The steak was tough and seemed reheated and the sauce was overly sweet. The fried rice was also clearly reheated and everything was served with wilted, rotting romaine lettuce on the side as a garnish. Why? I have no idea.
The worst thing we got was the salmon skin "Keto" fries which were literally a served cold. We told the server about it he took the plate, apologized, disappeared for 2 minutes and came back with the same plate lukewarm. I guess he microwaved it. Overall though, it was inedible and insulting.
Food aside they also did a mandatory tip on the order which I did not appreciate especially since the service was a bit spotty. I also want to mention if you're calling the place Sushi Rock and you have album covers of rock bands all over the wall you may want to put some rock music on the playlist. The fact that they're playing Paula Abdul and Beyoncé in a "rock" place is absolutely ridiculous.
Overall I was very disappointed I would definitely not go back here again. It looks like most people in Fort Lauderdale already got the hint and aren't showing up either. Zero stars, one of the worst sushi meals I've ever had.
