70 New Restaurants and Bars That Have Opened in San Diego | Eater San Diego

"I noticed a remodeled and revamped sushi bar under new owners Brian and Misun Yoon where chef Brian Yoon has introduced a fresh menu spanning signature and specialty rolls, premium sashimi and nigiri, plus cooked items like chicken katsu, salmon teriyaki, traditional curry, and fusion dishes like yellowtail carpaccio and mango pineapple ceviche, accompanied by a large sake selection and soju cocktails." - Candice Woo

First time visit on a Saturday afternoon 2:00. The outside seating was well spaced and we also enjoyed the live band performance from the Coyote Bar and Grill just below us The sushi was delicious. I especially enjoyed the Dragon Roll and the spicy tuna hand roll was spectacular. The service was good although it took a while to get our first plates but we weren’t in a hurry so we enjoyed talking and listening to the tunes. Definitely worth the wait and we will return

I had high hopes for Sushi Taisho but found it to be mid. The TLDR is that the fish was warm and not well cut. The sushi rice wasn’t seasoned well - dry and undercooked. Service was slow and not super pleasant. We had the mixed tempura which was okay but the tempura sauce was overly sweet. The nigiri wasn’t much to write home about. It was similar to what I have gotten at Costco. The fish was warm and the cuts weren’t neat. We tried one hamachi cut roll which was okay, but not great. It felt hyped. The interior was nice but the floors felt a little sticky. I was hoping for a cute date night but it ended up being underwhelming.

My boyfriend and I have been at Taisho three times so far and each time was an absolutely amazing experience. We went during their busy days/times and the longest we've ever had to wait was 10 minutes. The other two times we didn't have to wait at all. The atmosphere is great for the most part. I recommend staying inside so that the music below doesn't drown out your conversations. The food is not only affordable, but also good quality. Most sushi places we've been to, we've had to wait a long time until we get out food. At Taisho, it only takes a couple minutes. I recommend not ordering all at once or else your entire table will be filled with food. I can't emphasize enough how kind everyone who works there is. My boyfriend and I are always surprised just how kind everyone is and not in a pushy kind of way. This most recent time we both said "This is the only place I can think of where I would easily give a 25% or high tip because they very much deserve it." That's how excellent the service there is. So if you want to get good sushi, at good prices, with excellent service, I highly recommend you check out Taisho.

Back for another lunch here. It's been a while, regrettably. Sushi was divine (again)! So tasty. Mid afternoon dining on a Thursday found the shop tranquil and relaxing with quick and attentive service that wasn't intrusive. Super clean and plenty of daylight inside. Very enjoyable. Looking for a repeat soon.

We came here for our last night’s dinner and wanted a spot where we could enjoy a meal before walking the village after dark, Sushi Taisho was the perfect choice. The service was excellent, portions were huge, and everything we ordered was absolutely delicious. We sat inside, and one thing we really appreciated was that you couldn’t hear the live music from downstairs. It kept the atmosphere calm and made it easy to enjoy conversation over dinner. Normally we steer clear of overly “Pinteresty” or trendy-looking places, but this one struck the right balance. The interior had a nice look, the food presentation was thoughtful, and most importantly, the flavors lived up to the visuals. On top of that, this ended up being the best value meal of our entire vacation. What we tried: Chicken Teriyaki – Generous portion, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. Beef Yakisoba – Comforting, hearty, and packed with flavor. Green Tea – Fresh loose-leaf, smooth and aromatic. Chamomile Tea – Served as a bag, but still a nice touch and a soothing finish to the meal. If you’re in the area, Sushi Taisho is a must. Great service, great food, and an unbeatable value. We left full, happy, and ready for our evening walk through the village.

Walked in and seated easily, as it was mid-afternoon on a Wednesday. Clean restaurant, bright interior due to plentiful windows; outdoor seating available as well. Service was fine but I found myself waiting and trying to get our server's attention - or anyone's - so I could close out our bill. Both food and atmosphere were excellent. Lot is fairly small but we lucked out and found a spot around the corner from the restaurant. Will definitely go back next time I'm in Carlsbad.

Google
This was a really good find. We came to Carlsbad just to get out if the house and enjoy the weather. On the drive we figured we would find a Sushi place and this was the first one that popped up. It was a perfect day so we sat out on the patio where most of the seating is. The staff was friendly and attentive. They have a good selection of different rolls. The inside was nice and clean as well as the restrooms. Our food came quickly and it was very good. Prices were as expected and we left knowing we will come back and try more down the road. I would highly recommend it if you are in the area.

Google
Great spot for sushi! Came in with a party of five and were seated immediately. Staff is very kind! Restaurant is on the second floor We started with a few options from the appetizer menu u and didn’t go wrong. Immediately went for the sashimi and it was great! After that we had a handful of rolls. Food is excellent

Yelp
We went to Sushi Taisho for dinner last night, and it was such a great experience! We shared a nice bottle of sake, ordered multiple rolls, and even got individual hand rolls--which were generously portioned and delicious. One of our friends needed gluten-free options, and they had plenty available, which was great. The service was excellent--super friendly and welcoming. The restaurant itself is really cute and cozy, with a warm atmosphere. It's located upstairs in Carlsbad, so there's a nice little view of the area, and you can even see the train coming in. Plus, you can hear live music from downstairs, which adds to the fun vibe. The seafood was super fresh, the space was clean, and everything we tried was fantastic. We went as a group of four, got seated without a problem, and had a great time splitting different rolls and trying new things. Definitely a highly recommended spot!

Yelp
Oh wow, I haven't left a review here? Five stars for Taisho. I love this place. Cute little interior, not great for a big party, but I usually take 1-2 other people here. Their sushi is high quality and their service is fast. There are spots around town that are maybe better, but there's a good reason that this is somewhere I both recommend to people and frequent regularly: for the quality, the price is very good. High quality, good price. They do an excellent job on their maki rolls and nigiri which is my go-to order. Can't really comment on their specialty rolls but based on my typical order I would be shocked if they weren't good. So you're in good hands here. One thing that needs to be mentioned: they are right above the Coyote Bar & Grill. This is worth mentioning because on weekends, the Coyote always has live music. This could be a + for you, in which case, get a seat outside. However, it is very loud. This is no fault of Taisho, but if you don't want loud, live music, go during lunch or before 8pm (like I do). You can check the music schedule on the Coyote's website. Really a gem of Carlsbad Village.

Yelp
Wow! The reviews on this place were not lying. This sushi place is excellent. We came here tonight with my husband without a reservation or anything, I don't think they take any currently (so says their website). The inside is really cute with green leather booths, a cute neon sign and gold dishes for soy sauce. I enjoyed the decor. Staff was very friendly and immediately they greeted us by the door. We were seated right away. They had a couple of tables available. As a side note they have a pretty nice patio, but it was too cool for us on this night. We would definitely sit out there in the summertime and maybe bring our small dog? If allowed. We kicked things off with a couple of beers and some strawberry soju (my fav). Then we moved onto the sunset tuna carpaccio (8/10) which was delicious but a little hard to eat with all the pineapple and mango pieces falling off the fish. I liked this. My husband's pic was the New York lobster roll. He LOVED this with the lobster on top with drawn butter- a 10/10 from him. I love a salmon skin hand roll and got one here. Honestly was the best one I ever had. Salmon skin was crispy- no imitation krab in sight (I find a lot of sushi places at imitation craft to their salmon skin hand roll. I really hate when that happens as I don't like krab with a k myself) 10/10 here as well. We got a nice sushi combo to share with a mix of sashimi, nigiri, and some maki cut rolls as well. We ordered fresh wasabi (a must for me) and it was amazing and fresh. We will be back! I think I found my new favorite sushi place.

Yelp
I found this sushi restaurant on Yelp when I wanted to eat sushi near the beach in Carlsbad because it had good reviews. At first I didn't have a great first impression because NO ONE working there is Asian and I always feel like it's better to eat Italian food cooked by Italians, Mexican food cooked by Mexicans, etc. So I was prepared for some janky sushi....but it actually ended up tasting good! Like good enough where I'd eat it again! Everything was fresh and they have A HUGE menu of tons of sushi rolls to choose from which was fun. The service was outstanding! Everyone was so friendly, helpful and attentive! The restaurant is located on the second floor and you walk up stairs to the left of the restaurant to get there. Parking can be hard on prime time but it's not a far walk if you have to park outside the center on the street like I did. Overall, I'd come back here if a friend wanted to meet me here since they have such an extensive menu of fun rolls and fresh/good tasting sushi that exceeded my initial first impression!

Yelp
1. I normally don't like Miso soup, and I absolutely liked this one! 2. The sesame chicken entree was delicious! 3. The sushi was also delicious! 4. Prices were reasonable! 5. Our waitress was friendly and timely. Overall, I would 100% come back.

Yelp
Came here with a few friends on a Friday evening. For someone looking for a delicious Japanese-inspired dinner or lunch, Sushi Taisho had a lot of options from traditional sushi, Japanese curry/katsu, to even Americanized appetizers with things like bulgogi fries, etc. Some in our group had a bento box, some had a sushi sampler, while I had a Japanese Curry with Katsu and a yellowtail roll. Everything was delicious; service was attentive, and overall our group enjoyed our time here. We sat outside next to one of the heaters; the music from the bar down below was bumping by around 7pm, but it added to the fun vibe; but just be aware you'll hear some loud music if you're sitting outside from the bar below!
google avatar

Samantha V.

Yelp
Came on a Friday night party of 4.5. We were able to be seated right away and the outside dining is cozy with heaters and a view of the downstairs pub that had live music toward the end of our dinner, although a bit loud, we were finishing up, so it wasn't bad. Was excited about the chicken katsu, as pork katsu is one of my fave dishes. The chicken was crispy and crunchy and a nice side dish to the Japanese curry. I wasn't quite in the mood for the curry this time but would def try again! I also went with a classic miso soup, always delish and the Philly roll, big fan of cream cheese! The portions are plentiful and the service is attentive. Would dine here again!

Yelp
Omg this sushi spot is AMAZING 10/10. Stumbled upon this place while in Carlsbad & it was NYE so fairly empty but the service was impeccable. The sushi was so fresh everything melted in my mouth, we tried the taro nigiri and wow wow wow. Highly recommend this place if you're near it.
google avatar

Ren G.

Yelp
Let me preface this by saying that I would have loved to have given this place a 4-star rating, but we just can't get past the bulgogi entree that put a damper on our experience. This is such a great spot for SUSHI in Carlsbad Village! They had a good amount of seating both indoor and outdoor. They also had some heaters for their outdoor seating, which were pretty clutch on a cold winter's night. The staff were friendly and the service was fairly quick. We did beat the dinner rush though, so we were seated immediately. However, once 5:30-6pm rolled in, seats instantly filled up and they even had a line out the door. What we tried: Honey Roll - so dang delicious! It had everything I love and want in sushi roll form. The torched salmon on top was exquisite and just melted in my mouth! This has got to be my newest favorite and I can't wait to have it again already. Poke Tower - AHHHH-MAZING! I devoured this like there's no tomorrow. This was simple and straightforward in terms of poke ingredients; it was also pretty eye catching with it being a tower and all, but it actually tasted divine. The ahi tuna that it came with was fresh and tender. Every bite was just ultimate poke heaven in my mouth. Bulgogi Entree - this one was a big let down for me and my husband, especially after loving the sushi roll and poke tower. Almost every piece of beef in our dish was so dry, it was quite unpleasant to eat. They almost forgot to serve us the miso soup and salad that came with the entree too. They had it served only after we asked about it and when we were about to leave. For the price they charge you for this entree, it's definitely disappointing and not worth the money. We'd consider going back here, but only for sushi next time. I think it's safe to say we'll be skipping the entree part of their menu.

Yelp
A night to remember! Got there around 6:00 and sat outside on a Sunday and it was the best choice! Heaters helped us stay warm while the restaurant below played awesome live music. Sushi was great! Server was great! I can't remember her name but she was on it! Great place. Top floor about coyote. Parking is a hit or miss though.. did a couple laps before finding some.
google avatar

Savanna V.

Yelp
Came here for lunch with a friend and enjoyed myself! I ordered the lemon roll and shared gyoza with my friend. Both were yummy - I'm a sucker for sushi with lemon on it! Service was good and the atmosphere inside was nice. The patio is nice too! Definitely recommend.
google avatar

Yelp
Fantastic sushi spot in the heart of Carlsbad Village. I love a fun specialty roll and Sushi Taisho did not disappoint! I went for the Honey and 911 rolls and really enjoyed them. Also recommend trying one of their several sakes. We visited on a weekday and were seated outside quickly. Service was fast and our waitress was friendly and happy to give recommendations. Rolls averaged around $15 which I thought was fair given the location and quality. Overall a winning sushi spot in beautiful Carlsbad. Will return.
google avatar

Chad D.

Yelp
I appreciate that Sushi Taisho is dog friends. Parking is crazy on the weekends in Carlsbad Village so be patient. Food is good. Our soft shell crab was a bit overcooked. Otherwise we enjoyed several rolls, albacore tuna was great. My wife said her Uni was good, not my thing. Warning on the weekends, their is live music below at Coyote Grill so it was impossible to have a conversation with our friends who were visiting. Overall what you would expect in a tourist destination like Carlsbad CA.
google avatar

Mei C.

Yelp
This restaurant is located in a cute plaza on the second floor. Parking may be difficult, I had a hard time but that may be because there's a well known local band playing there! Service was quick and frequent, not to mention the food came out quickly. We ordered some rolls and they were all delicious. I enjoyed all the rolls, the agedashi tofu appetizer, and sashimi (though the tuna one wasn't the freshest)
google avatar

Jamie S.

Yelp
Excellent presentation and flavors. We were looking for a dinner that wasn't packed not terribly expensive. Wow what a surprise
google avatar

Taylor K.

Yelp
Amazing and delish food!! Seriously service was amazing and attentive. Janine did so good at service and it was her first shift. Poke nachos, shishito peppers, sushi rolls, mushrooms, pickled cucumbers!!! Come here so good
google avatar

Mei T.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I came here for some late night bites and really enjoyed the freshness and thick cuts of sashimi. We visited the restaurant about 30 minutes before closing time and were pleased with the service and quality of the food. The table next to us ordered a large display of sashimi that was beautifully presented in a "staircase." We'll have to come back to order that next time! I appreciate a sushi restaurant that goes the extra mile for food presentation! This restaurant is located on the second level of the plaza, and directly below is the Cayote restaurant which is really loud with the live band. If you do not prefer the loudness, then I would suggest dining indoor. Otherwise, the outdoor patio is really nice too.

Baylee C.

Yelp
Love this place! Been so hard to find good sushi and this place is great. Their super mario roll and lobster roll are unreal! so amazing. they are also so fast! Service is great! Only downside is that they have such nice outside seating but they are right above coyote bar so it gets very loud with their live music. But that is not their fault! Must try this place!
google avatar

Kathleen K.

Yelp
Food is outstanding with many specialty rolls. The service was good and we got seated pretty quickly at the sushi bar. Loved listening to the live music coming from the bar underneath the restaurant while we waited. Definitely a great vibe.
google avatar

Ivan D.

Yelp
Best sushi I've had... you won't be disappointed! Salmon, crunch Rolls, Teriyaki and Poke
google avatar

Miriam G.

Yelp
Mid week date night- we wanted to be close to the ocean and have sushi. While this is not on the ocean, it was a very quick ride over so distance worked out great. This is a shopping center with bats and restaurants. The bar downstairs had live music which added to the ambiance. The restaurant is upstairs. The outside seating looks great, but we opted to sit inside. The staff was friendly. The food was pretty good. We did 3 different rolls (I forgot to take pictures of the second roll). I ordered tea. Husband had beer and alcoholic kambucha. We didn't get the sushi restaurant feel. I got tea 2hich was in a cup instead of the tea pot. Big tea drinker here, so this was a sticking point for me. The rolls were excellent. Our favorite was the Homie roll (the one I forgot to pucture, of course). Honey roll was second favorite and lobster roll was the least favorite. After a filling meal, I really wanted dessert. Imagine my disappointment when they told us they don't do desserts. I was looking forward to traditional sushi dessert from deep fried ice cream or green tea mochi. I wouldn't be against coming back here but I think I'd want to experience a different place.
google avatar

Daniel H.

Yelp
Order out Toro !!! ...but tasted to me like OToro !! With a Hamachi hand roll .. WOW !!.. it's a great t season for Sashimi !!
google avatar

Danielle G.

Yelp
Carlsbad has lots of sushi spots to offer! Sushi Taisho is pretty popular spot being right in the middle of downtown in the village! They don't disappoint! Oh the top floor above the Coyote, it's a very upbeat environment and you can enjoy the live entertainment downstairs while you eat! I have had multiple rolls and all were fresh and tasty! The tuna and salmon rolls are my favorite! The servers are attentive. I've never had to wait for a refill or had dirty dishes left on the table . This is a super fun place to grab a roll or two, listen to some music and chill! Check it out if you're on downtown Carlsbad!

Sara D.

Yelp
Sushi Taisho has been our sushi go to for awhile now! Andrea is excellent, always so helpful with recommendations and very attentive! The fish quality is consistent and always delicious! Definitely a comfort food spot and great for date nights, if you're up for sushi this is the spot!
google avatar

Brett P.

Yelp
Food was very good, ordered ahead online and it was all packaged great and ready when I arrived. Fantastic option in the area!
google avatar

Heather C.

Yelp
Hands down the best California rolls I've ever had. I usually stick to other sushi's because the California roll always seems to rubbery; But this place has won me over, and California rolls are now my go to but only from this place. Everything else is great but they made an impression on me.
google avatar

Tom R.

Yelp
The chicken katsu is great. The sushi is not very good and I ended up with food poisoning. Also. there were people with dogs on their laps at the "sushi" bar. Leave your disgusting animal at home, and the restaurant should be ashamed allowing this at the "sushi" bar.
google avatar

Leah M.

Yelp
Food - phenomenal, I can't wait to go try more menu items Service - meh, slow and didn't check on us much Ambiance - great, personally love the live music below Pricepoint - good especially for the quality of the food, I was shocked when I got the bill, was expecting it to be double what it was Other - They have lots of cool, modern, creative items on the menu, and you can request real wasabi!

Kevin H.

Yelp
OK folks, it's Carlsbad, California, this week and as always I'm committed to giving you a heads up about the great places to eat, and by great I mean great food at a reasonable price. If you can afford to only pick high-end joints, you don't really need help or Yelp, IMO. I'm more the peoples' critic . And here is one for the bank: Sushi Taisho. Close to the shore, upstairs with nice outdoor seating options, seemingly plentiful parking, and an attentive, beautiful wait staff. As for the food, not one hint of a complaint: - Hello-tail carpaccio appetizer is a WINNER. Just my style, some fresh hamachi, jalapeño, ponzu... hard to beat. - ordered the toro nigiri and that is always life-changing. Those are the moments during which we arrive at an understanding that we came from the sea. - one special deep fried roll with shrimp and cream cheese with eel sauce and spicy mayo called the Red Line - spectacular. Hats off to the sushi chef(s) and to Isabel, who is really easy to like. 5 stars all around!
google avatar

Gabriela Q.

Yelp
I think we got a new sushi spot! Decided to check this place out for a Wednesday lunch date and it was perfect. We typically order 3-4 rolls but we thought we ought to try 2 first and go from there. Thankfully, those two rolls were more than enough for both of us. We thought the rolls were a great size. Our server was very friendly and we thought it's pretty well priced considering the taste and quality.
google avatar

Laura C.

Yelp
Excellent fresh food, great service and affordable prices. Would definitely recommend.
google avatar

Grace C.

Yelp
We just came here for a quick snack. So we shared a poke nacho. Lots of nachos not enough tuna. But great combo flavor and great service. Cool atmosphere right about coyote cafe where they had a live ban.
google avatar

Rick S.

Yelp
The service here was amazingly awesome. We ordered sushi without any wasabi or spices, it came by default with spice sauce drizzled, and they corrected it graciously and apologetically (no apologies necessary 'tho). My son is adverse to hot spiced food, so that's why we asked and made sure ahead of time and it was merely a kitchen mix up. In the aftermath, the food was quickly replaced and consumed deliciously with great satisfaction. My son loved it all. The only hard part of the restaurant and we came on a Saturday evening in the Summer, was PARKING, as the lots were full and it's a busy area as well as located in a little "village" supporting multiple restaurants, shops and retailers. We found parking about 4 blocks away walking distance near the train station for free 'tho.
google avatar

Aprille H.

Yelp
What a great experience! Our service was great ! We had tempura , shishito, and combo 2 . All was great . I would not get shishito and the tempura needed a bit of salt in batter yet it was crunch and tender . The sauce was served hot and sauce dint have much of a flavor. None of this will stop me from coming up to get more sushi again . Worth the drive for us PS I'm Thinking coyote grill that is downstairs has karaoke on their patio on Mondays ?? It was really loud we sat inside . Pss the interior is super cute and I love the green and gold accents .
google avatar

Jonathan C.

Yelp
This place has high quality sushi for a great price. You can only make a reservation for parties of 6 or more, but the wait usually isn't too long. Ambiance is chill inside, if you sit outside there may be a band playing on the first floor.
google avatar

Brett M.

Yelp
My wife and I ate here when we visited the Carlsbad area before Christmas. Saw the good reviews on Yelp and gave it a try. We were very impressed with the service and quality of the food. We got the veggie tempura and loved it. Great crunch and freshness. And good portion for the price. We each got a roll and loved it. Super flavorful and the freshness was perfect. We were extremely satisfied with our order. The sake I got was great and we left very happy and full!
google avatar

Katie R.

Yelp
I haven't been here for a little while now, but at one point, this was one of our regular spots. It is where Peabody's used to be and has a really cute atmosphere with a pretty art deco, green and gold color scheme. The sushi is excellent and so is the service
google avatar

Madison N.

Yelp
Service was great - food came out very fast and everything tasted good! I love that you can make a reservation for inside or outside. The outdoor patio has heat lamps and is dog friendly as well. One note is that the restaurant below often has a band so it can get super loud outside if they are playing!
google avatar

Amanda B.

Yelp
I love sushi and Blue Ocean is my fav sushi foodz in North County but now that Sushi Taisho is here, I may have to reconsider. It is green and gold in here and very cute. The food is divine. They even have a baked scallop roll (Blue Ocean does not). I have never had to wait to eat here. They are upstairs in the Cbad Village Faire (by Sun Diego and the like). I love to eat outside and feel the breeze. The only bummer is Coyote Ugly is below it and loud as hell alot of times with live music so maybe listen for a few before deciding to eat here. Also the train horn still sounds in Carlsbad when it goes by so it may scare you and make you drop your chopsticks. Great presentation and taste. Really excited to have a close awesome place.

Brandon O.

Yelp
This place had great service and even better sushi!! I would come back here every day if I could afford sushi everyday :)
google avatar

Suzanne C.

Yelp
This place has wonderful fresh sushi with great sushi and service. It's upstairs in a mall, quite popular place.
google avatar

Ruby T.

Yelp
Absolutely scrumptious, a positively delightful treat. My name is Ruby and I approve this message.
google avatar

Erik T.

Yelp
Ordered the 20 piece sashimi and it did not disappoint! The fish tasted very fresh and were healthy slices. I would definitely go back!

Jane E.

Yelp
Food was great, service was good too. We sat inside because the patio was above a live band. Inside got a bit loud when the restaurant got a little full
google avatar

Caitlin K.

Yelp
Delicious sushi and beautifully prepared! Ordered take out and the dishes still came beautifully prepared in the go containers.
google avatar

Dean R.

Yelp
The food here is always fresh and tasty. While the music from the coyote bar below them is a bit loud, sitting inside helps with that a lot. I would recommend getting the matcha IPA is you like stout beers (a strange recommendation, I know). The matcha combined with the ipa style of brewing unique taste makes for an almost stout like flavor. The rice beer is also an excellent choice if you enjoy lighter beers and has a very unique flavor. The cost of the sushi is similar to Miko, but higher quality. So if you liked them, you'll probably like this place. The servers arr friendly but not overbearing. They check by quickly from time to time and use visual judgment as well as asking if you need anything. Overall they are polite and courteous.
google avatar

Alexis F.

Yelp
Beware of the Yelp check in! The wait times are not accurate. Once we arrived it claimed our table was ready, when going to the host stand I was told another 30 mins. We waited 30 mins to which we were told it just depends on when someone gets up. I told the host inside or outside depending on availability. Wish they would update that to reflect on the Yelp check in. Service was slow, seemed like we were always looking for our server. Rolls were delicious and unique. The outside seats is lovey when the band is playing downstairs.
google avatar

Margo D.

Yelp
Ordered take out on a Friday night and it was absolutely delicious! Everything was so fresh and great portions! And so reasonably priced! Will 100% be ordering again. - I ordered salmon sushi, yellowtail sushi, scallop sushi, and a roll. Just delicious!

Yelp
Great spot with an awesome origin story! Sushi Taisho delivers with high quality Japanese cuisine and great service in an enjoyable atmosphere. The new owners, a husband and wife team, first worked together at the original Sushi Taisho back in 2006 before it was sold and renamed. The couple went on to start two nearby sushi restaurants in Carlsbad before recently buying this space and opening the NEW Sushi Taisho. This was a big win for all local sushi lovers. My wife and I first came here for dinner on a weeknight and enjoyed every bite. We started with a bottle of crisp sake and an order of Tamago, which was prepared to perfection. After that we feasted on fresh Green Salads and a hearty order of Vegetable Tempura. Lastly, we split an Eel House Roll that was packed with Unagi, cucumber and avocado. Everything surpassed our expectations, which were already high. 5 Stars all around! Whether you're looking for a quality sit-down meal or a quick weeknight takeout option, I highly recommend Sushi Taisho to locals and travelers alike. PRO TIP: If you're dining with someone who has dietary restrictions, Sushi Taisho has a list of gluten-free sushi rolls on the menu. Like most asian cuisine, this is also a great choice if you're eating dairy-free or vegetarian.
