This Kaiseki Master Hand Makes Some of the Greatest Soba in Los Angeles | Eater LA

"An eight-seat sushi restaurant in Beverly Hills opened in fall 2023 by chef Yusuke Yamamoto, Sushi Yamamoto serves an omakase that has recently incorporated Motoishi’s hand-made soba; the small room by the entrance that was once a rarely used private dining room under the previous tenant (two-Michelin-star Urasawa) is now dedicated to soba preparation. Because the restaurant is closed on Sundays and Mondays, owner Yamato Miura and Motoishi use the space for the Kaiseki Motoishi pop-ups, and Motoishi also contributes soba to the regular omakase where the soba course can feature elevated ingredients such as abalone or Hokkaido uni. Miura originally planned for Motoishi to work there for five years before taking over, but instead they are keeping the pop-ups small while Miura prepares a separate eight-seat dining room for Motoishi inside the upcoming Hilton in Arcadia, where they hope to add a stone grinder and expand the soba program." - Fiona Chandra

Sushi Yamamoto  - Review - Beverly Hills - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"The newest member of LA’s growing club of very expensive omakase spots, Sushi Yamamoto is hidden on the second floor of Two Rodeo plaza in Beverly Hills (sushi geeks might know it as the former home of Urasawa). Dinner at this eight-seat counter costs $390 per person—gulp—but if blowing that on amazing sushi sounds not totally unreasonable, you’re in the right place. The young chef running the show here worked at Matsuhisa and Nobu Tokyo, and he brings a loose, fun energy that perks up what might otherwise be a too-serious meal. A simple surf clam in dashi is enough to make your knees wobble, while flashier dishes like uni-caviar tempura and hay-smoked wagyu explode with flavor. Nigiri is fine-tuned to enhance the natural sweetness of seafood, but dessert is perfectly not-too-sweet: a wedge of hollowed-out Japanese melon filled with extra creamy melon ice cream." - Garrett Snyder

If you can get a reservation, enjoy Sensei Yusuke Yamamoto presence and skills. It was like watching an artist perfect plan, craft, display in real time. The best omakase in LA is unfortunately leaving end of October 2025 - back to Japan and then Switzerland (private chef). He shared about his two young kids back home (Japan) and he and his wife want to make the best life for his girls. Thank you Chef for an amazing experience

Best sushi I’ve had in the states in a very long time but I had to pay the price. It was extremely expensive. Worth every penny but it’s the type of spot that’s reserved for those special celebratory moments.

Chef Yamamoto has a beautiful story to tell and his food reflects it. Thank you so much for the most memorable experience. This used to be Chef Urasawa’s space and it has been preserved. I was so pleased to see that the special wood countertop has not been changed. The food is very special but the alcohol pairing is even more special. So if you are planning to come here, make sure you get the alcohol pairing. It elevates the food to a whole different level. The chef and the staff are extremely gracious and that makes for a phenomenal experience. The Sake is some of the best I have ever had. We started the food with a beautiful barbecued smoky tilefish in a homemade tortilla. It was absolutely delicious and it set the tone for the entire meal. Some of the highlights were the Astrea Caviar Toro, the abalone soup which came after the Awabi-abalone, the kegani-hairy crab, uni-sea urchin, and the A5 Wagyu beef was the most phenomenal beef I have ever had. I was concerned that the food would not be enough to make us full but to my surprise, by the end of the meal we were pretty full. My husband does not enjoy sake so they recommended different wines that he really enjoyed. This was a very expensive dinner, but this is a once in a lifetime experience. I would only ask that chef Yamamoto adds to the courses to justify the price. I highly recommend this restaurant for a very special evening.

Very disappointing overall. For $400+ per person, the food quality and experience did not justify the price. The chef was frequently absent from the counter; there was lots of presentation, but the taste was lacking. The staff was friendly, but unfortunately it didn’t make up for the food. Easily the most disappointing omakase we’ve had. It was hard to understand how something at this price point could deliver so poorly. Not recommended at all.

Absolutely wonderful. On top of the great food, the chef and staff were extremely kind and friendly. A little hard to spot, it is in two rodeo shopping complex. The elevator to the 2nd floor will take you straight up, there's a sign on the one to use.

Absolutely the best sushi-centered omakase set course! And such wonderful chef & staff. Expensive but worth it!

Worth 7 stars Omakase experience. It was such an unforgettable experience. My friend and I cried at chef Yusuke san’s outstanding Omakase course. His best friend Teppei san is the best sommelier that I’ve ever met. Chef Kazu san’s soba is also amazing too! Definitely my most favorite restaurant in the world. Although it’s all Omakase style , “ Enzo Roll “ is a must try after your course, seems a secret menu. I’m sure they will receive at least 2 stars Michelin or maybe 3 stars in the future. Thank you for a wonderful experience.
