Sushi Yashin

The worst, most bland ramen I’ve ever had. I’m extremely disappointed in the ramen I just got. The broth is horrible and entire thing is flavorless. I am throwing the entire thing in the trash. Money completely wasted. Will never order from here again. So pissed. I was craving ramen all day only to get a bowl that taste terrible.

Ate here for the first time Thursday evening. Miso soup and rainbow roll. I got sick the same night and felt unwell for two days. On the upside my dining parter was fine. Enough for me!

Pink/grey rubbery tuna with a spoiled aftertaste. Server was nice, but she pretended she had no idea they served spoiled fish. (Cooked) miso cod was ok. Don’t order the sushi here, no liquor license, and uncomfortable dine-in atmosphere. Spartan. Our first and unfortunately last time here. We should’ve read the reviews.

I have been dining at or ordering out from Yashin since it first opened. The quality has gone down. A spicy tuna hand roll looked like a seaweed burrito, the seaweed was gummy instead of crispy, and overwrapped like a stuffed grape leaf. The sushi mixture inside was bright orange and did not taste of tuna. There was no rice. I threw it out. My partner and I had gas and nausea for 24 hours after dining here, having eaten several combo rolls as well. I can no longer recommend. :(

Food was good. I really liked the gyoza and the chicken karaage. The sushi was ok. I preferred the appetizers. Not bad.

Not sure what happened to Sushi Yasin. The quality of the food has declined significantly over the past three years. The portions are much smaller and the sushi is not as fresh as it once was. We spent $125 on lunch for three people and left hungry and unsatisfied.

I’ve only ordered food to-go from Sushi Yashin and I ordered it 4 days in a row, so I hope that sums up my review for the most part. The Spicy Girl roll is tasty and delicious with fresh tuna and jalapeno for a kick. The Apollo roll is tempura shrimp with some sort of mayo on top. The Rainbow roll has different fish on top like tuna, salmon, and yellowtail—if you’re looking for one roll with variety, this is the one I’d recommend. As for the normal rolls, can’t go wrong with a basic California roll. We will definitely be back and hopefully for dine-in so we can try it at its freshest!

Sweet atmosphere, calm, a nice place to visit! Friendly service, VERY fresh and flavorful fish, especially the yellowtail and tuna. Served beautifully- they put wasabi into the rolls/nigiri directly, so you do have to request that it be on the side if that’s not your thing.

Excellent sushi. Very fresh and very unique. One of the best I had. The place is pretty small so might need to wait a little. Not a good place for large party.

I recently ordered from Sushi Yashin for work and was left pretty disappointed. I took advantage of a buy one get one promo on Uber Eats, so I ended up with double the food, but unfortunately, the flavors just didn't hit the mark. I got the shrimp tempura, spicy tuna, and takoyaki. The takoyaki was the highlight, but even that felt just okay. The shrimp tempura arrived soggy, though I know that can happen with delivery, so that wasn't my biggest issue. The spicy tuna, however, was very mushy and just didn't sit right with me. Overall, the meal was bland and lacked the vibrant flavors I expect from sushi. I ended up with a lot of food but not much to enjoy. Wouldn't recommend based on this experience.

The best Japanese sushi that I ever had in Brooklyn, my best friend said. I treated my best friend a Christmas dinner at Sushi Yashin last night, the experience was truly delightful. The ambiance exuded a serene charm, setting a perfect stage for an exceptional dinning experience. The service was great, we all so welcomed when we stepped in the restaurant till we left. We ordered two appetizers, one sushi sashimi combo, one salmon teriyaki and four pieces of Uni sashimi. All the food featured fresh, high quality ingredients that left a lasting impression on my taste buds. The Sake offered a perfect compliments to the exquisite flavors on the table. Sushi Yashin is truly mastered the art of Japanese cuisine, highly recommended.

Found this place on Yelp and wanted to take my mom on a nice last minute omakase experience without having to make reservation weeks in advance. Sushi yashin had great reviews and availability. Came in and sat outside, weather was soo nice and there was private space for our party. Servers were attentive, patient and took time to explain everything to us! The food was amazing! We tried the sushi as well as the sushi and sashimi omakase courses, which were extremely filling and decadent pieces of sushi!

This is a solid spot for simple and fresh sushi rolls! We dined in and ordered 2 basic rolls and the 5th Ave Roll which was our favorite! It was a tiny spot so you may end up with a wait on a busier night (we went on a Thursday and had no wait). The staff were all really nice and the food came out quick! Would recommend for a casual dinner.

Very friendly and attuned staff in a small intimate restaurant. The black cod was very moist and the ebi tempura was very flaky! Omakase selection was fresh, especially the toro pieces and uni! The omakase was reasonably priced and I have definitely had worse omakase that costed more. Seaweed for the hand roll was crunchy, which is definitely a plus! I just wish the pieces would come one at a time, but nonetheless it was tasty and definitely a good experience. Definitely worth trying! (: Thank you for reading and good luck!

This place is super awesome. Had a Chirashi bowl from here, which was very affordable.

First time here, and we ordered a bit of everything. First got the soft shelled crab and the sweet shrimp tempura. The crab was good, but the tempura was just okay, did not taste the sweetness of the shrimp. Next, we had the ocean roll and rainbow roll. The ocean roll waa definitely the star of the show. Fantastix combination and mix of flavors, and the rainbow row was simple and fresh. Finally we ordered the scallop ala carte and sashimi deluxe. The scallop was very fresh, juicy, and big. The sashimi deluxe was of decent quality!

It's worth the extra $ - nothing in this hood is even nearly as good. You can tell by the seaweed salad- way more than green goo.

Well food was ok... won't go back. Place felt dirty. The chair cushions were covered with stains and that was a big turn off. Maybe don't get ivory colored ones that show everything.

Whenever I'm feeling indecisive on what to eat, Japanese is my cuisine of choice and Sushi Yashin is a great, casual, neighborhood spot. Whether it's one of their many sushi and sashimi entrees or their kitchen appetizers, I'm always impressed by the quality of the fish and speediness of their chefs. My go to order here is their sushi for two, which comes with 16 pieces of nigiri, 1 special roll, and 1 regular roll of your choice. It's not that often you get to pick the roll and special roll you get with a sushi dinner combo-- special rolls typically set you back around $16 per special roll, so this is actually a very sweet deal. I trust that all their rolls are tasty, but I especially like their dancing eel roll. This place is no frills, but they don't skimp on quality. I'd even come back to try their very reasonably priced $65 omakase.

surprised I've never reviewed this spot. I've done takeout and dining in. It's a small place but people still come to eat! Great great service. Very attentive. Started with the green tea which is free refills and they really keep them coming. We had gyoza and edamame (both delicious and reasonably priced). The sushi there is quite good and fresh. A tad bit too much rice on the sushi rolls but other than that quite good. The chicken katsu looked amazing and huge portion.

I pass by here all the time and finally decided to try it - no regrets! The interior of the outdoor dining areas is very simple and cozy. The staff is very friendly and service is fast. The fish taste really fresh - the himachi carpaccio is not only refreshing but the sauce on top also complimented the yellowtail well. The uni here is ok - it's not the best uni I've had and I probably wouldn't get it again. I had the Kaisen don which includes salmon, yellowtail, tuna, uni and ikura. I would just get the salmon chirashi in the future, which also includes ikura though not stated. The salad that comes along is a little elevated from the typical salads with sushi - it has a different sauce (maybe balsamic?) but it is a surprising change from the usual ones you find. I love plum wine but theirs is on the sweeter side for my tastes. (Plum wine is generally sweet.) All in all, a good sushi spot that I would visit again sometime.

Hanging out with my best friends in this decent restaurant, very good quality food, very fresh food. One of the best in the neighborhood. Definitely will be back with more friends.

The sushi omakase set is good value ($50) for 10 pieces of nigiri and a small tuna roll. The fish quality and selection isn't top notch, but you also shouldn't expect that at $50 a pop. However I strongly advise against ordering the cheaper raw fish items such as the chirashi. I made the mistake of ordering the two together, and after finishing the sushi omakase, the chirashi was a total letdown and left a bad taste in my mouth (literally). The quality of the fish in the chirashi is just not the same; perhaps I should have known that as it's reflected in the price (below $30, can't remember exactly).

Great sushi!! I highly recommend ordering omakase (no menu) and sitting at the bar for the best experience. They have a very nice variety with unique fish I have rarely seen elsewhere. I'm not typically a fan of Oysters but the ones here were delicious!

My stars were are for the service which was exceptional. Came to eat based are majority of good reviews and I was in the area. Small place on the inside only a few tables but cute and it had some low music playing. Hostess was very nice and immediately seated us and appropriately came to take out orders and was attentive when we needed something. Appetizers -kani salad -ok- not much flavor- fried pumpkin was actually good. Probably the best thing I had tonight. The sushi was a complete miss for me. I ordered the spicy girl roll. - take a look at my picture the tuna in the roll is hardly visible. There was a very funny taste, later I realized it was the spicy mayo- it honestly tasted spoiled to me. I asked the hostess and she politely stated they make it different with tobasco instead of Siracha- I'm still anxiously waiting to see if I get sick. The other special roll ocean roll was not wrapped well and kept falling apart. Eel was not pleasant on the palate. I couldn't put my finger on it. My vegetarian sister enjoy her rolls more especially the sweet potato. They had some interesting vegetarian rolls so I give them kudos for that. Server was great but will not be coming back.

This place is great. We were in the neighborhood and came on recommendation from a local business who often come here for lunch. If you're looking for a nice casual sushi spot, definitely worth checking out Yashin. They currently have a decent amount of outdoor seating. Not sure about the indoor situation, but this place isn't really big. For lunch, they have omakase and specials available. We each had a medley of specials. I had the sashimi special (comes with 2x each of king salmon, tuna, mackerel and shimaaji), the Hamachi Kama (grilled yellowtail collar), Giant Sushi (2x scallop, uni, and roe sushi), and an additional Uni a la carte. The fish was all nice and super fresh. I really enjoyed the Hamachi as my main dish and the sashimi to start. The Giant Sushi was a luxury since I haven't dined on sushi since pandemic took over. Really, no complaints overall. I highly recommend Yashin for a casual experience of better sushi. All the sushi was delicious. The outdoor seating was nicely spaced out too so it felt safe dining here.

This Brooklyn parkslope Japanese restaurant is absolutely wonderful. My husband and I decided to order food to go in support of our local restaurants. The personnel took our order and it was ready within 15 minutes which was awesome. We had a few hand rolls with a avocado salad it was all delicious. My hands rolls consisted of eel and cucumber with rice and the other one was salmon with avocado with rice absolutely mouthwatering. The fish was extremely fresh melting in my mouth. I truly recommend this little gem of a restaurant. The avocado salad was wonderful with fresh crispy veggies the avocado was creamy excellent. The establishment was ensuring all COVID-19 protocols such as hand sanitizer, people wearing masks, and social distancing. Thanks all for excellent service and please stay safe and well.

I really enjoy this local Japanese restaurant in my neighborhood. The fish is always fresh executed with visual presentation. I just love sashimi which is very good with great selection ranging from fatty Tuna, scallop, salmon etc. I usually have it with some sake excellent for the pallet. The outdoor dining is great the structures are made giving you private with your party.

Service is good. But food is below average and small portions. Can't recommend it. Ambiance is good.

Great local spot for good quality sushi. I got the regular sushi deluxe dinner which comes with 8 pieces of sushi, a tuna roll and a soup/salad for $27. If you want good sushi to be available support your local businesses otherwise i have no decent places to review and i cant help you help me help them help us

The difference in quality of fish between Sushi Yashin 2 months ago and today is night and day. The quality of the fish went way up. The selection in the sashimi sampler is more interesting, better cuts, and more delicious overall. Great job. A sushi glow up.

Had dinner at Sushi Yashin on Sunday night. Affordable and solid sushi set-up for easy take-out or quick dine-in. Quality: Sushi Yashin is a simple, yet tasty sushi spot in the Park Slope area. We ordered an assortment of standard rolls as well as a combo platter of sushi and sashimi. I believe the Ocean Roll with eel and mango topped with salmon, tuna, avocado, crunch, and spicy mayo was my highlight. However, I was also very happy with the tuna served with the Sushi Sashimi Combo. The Salmon Avocado Roll, Spicy Tuna Roll, and Shrimp Tempura Roll were all fine, but didn't leave much impression. Quantity: I felt it was a solid value for the quantity of fish we received. The Sushi Sashimi Combo is large enough for two. Value: $6.50 for the Salmon Avocado Roll. $6.50 for the Spicy Tuna Roll. $7 for the Shrimp Tempura Roll. $16 for the Ocean Roll. $33 for the Sushi Sashimi Combo. Ambiance: Sushi Yashin is a fairly simple sushi restaurant located in the Park Slope area of Brooklyn. Outside they have built a fairly impressive structure for private dining. Inside the space is small, with just four tables and a sushi counter. I assume they used to have additional seats at the counter, but right now it is mostly used as a place to stack take-out orders. The background music was fairly quiet instrumental music. Crowd: They only have four tables inside, but they were all occupied when we arrived. I also witnessed pick-up orders headed out every ten to fifteen minutes. Service: I was shocked how quick the chefs were to get our food prepped and on the table. Parking: Limited street parking in the area.

Japanese sushi and sushi bars should be spare, uncluttered, pure. Coming from Los Angeles we held out for as much as possible. But there is only so much an Asian can go without authentic Asian food. Found this gem on Yelp examined the photos and found that true to the food and design aesthetic, Yashin was excellent. Great service. Fresh fish. Simply well done

The spicy girl, Apollo and vegetable udon dishes were very good. Sushi was very fresh. I ate in person. Service was great, very quick.

Food: The Shishito peppers and hamachi carpaccio was ordered as appetizers. Both delicious were fresh and delicious. I ordered the sashimi deluxe as my entree and it was such a great choice. The fish cuts were all well presented and absolutely delicious. The fish they used tasted super fresh. They also had a decent selection of sake to choose from as well! Cost: As with all sushi restaurants, sushi is expensive. However, I thought this place was a tad more expensive for how much/many pieces they gave. My friend and I enjoy omakase however the cost here was on the more expensive side for how many pieces they give. Also the dessert for the omakase was a little dissapointing which made use not want to choose that option even more. Environment: Very cozy. The place is not a big place and I like that. The decoration was nice and not too over the top and dramatic. The bathroom was nice, clean and well kept. Service: The waitress was very good. We didn't have any issues with waiting or needing to flag down someone because she checked up on very well. Uniqueness: The experience itself was unique however I would come here for regular/special rolls and sashimi rather than an omakase. The selection of drinks here were nice as well!

Change of staff!!!! It used to be great! Staff really doesn't know what they're serving. Sushi chef is too lazy to make a sushi and sashimi combo for 2, not much variation, only 4 kinds of fish. Overall the experience went down hill. Won't be returning. All the sushi special on the picture won't be served anymore.

3.5 stars. Pros: - Excellent sashimi and fresh fish, which I've heard is imported from Japan. The blue fin tuna melts in your mouth so I highly recommend. - Enjoyed the Ocean Roll (Eel and mango roll with tuna, salmon, avocado, crunch, masago with eel and spicy mayo sauce.) - Friendly and attentive service Cons: - I got rid of 1 star mostly because of the subpar rice. Given the high ratings here, I was surprised to find the rice slightly hard and tasteless. - Rainbow Roll didn't stand out in flavor or texture.

Rating this restaurant 3.5 stars. By no means did anything knock my socks off, but I had a nice dinner here with my friend Lindsey since she lives a stroll away & we wanted to take a walk to Park Slope in the nice weather! Restaurant was clean, very tiny and service was good. Was feeling particularly huge that evening so I opted for a lighter fare-- ordering the cucumber roll, scallop scallion roll, and small garden salad. I'd say the highlight of the dinner was the yuzu vinaigrette on the garden salad- delightfully zingy and fresh. Wouldn't go out of my way to come back but we had a nice average dinner and nothing went wrong :-)

Good fast service, delicious sushi. We had the salmon special and it was very fresh good quality. We also had the sushi deluxe which offered a tuna roll and several delicious fresh fish sushi pieces. Highly recommend!

Five stars because it's a pandemic and they have individual outdoor seating booths with heaters! Excellent service, fast and friendly, and if you take the green tea they refill frequently. Beautiful crockery and comfortable furniture. The food is good if you eat fish; for vegetarians, you're really limited to a few sushi options. There are no really vegetarian hot entrees; the udon soup has fish broth, and the tempura is fried in the same oil as everything else, plus the sauce for dipping is not vegetarian (but if you want, they can make an onion based dipping sauce that is vegetarian. There's also a side salad with a vegetarian dressing that would actually make a good dipping sauce. So yeah, not overwhelmed by the vegetarian food options, but it has everything else; service, ambiance, covid precautions.

Came here on a Tuesday night for a dinner , looking to try a new sushi place. This place is fairly small, decor is minimal. We ate outdoors and it looks more like a shed with a table but it was spacious for the two of us. They did not have blue fin toro , and didn't have the Omasake tasting course . The items we did order was fresh and if your in the neighborhood come check it out and support them .

Friendly owner, freshest fish, what else can you expect!! Omakase is a steal, it includes 10 pcs of high quality sushi piece, the rice flavor and temperature is on point. Will make this a usual spot.

Ordered delivery via Doordash a few weeks ago during quarantine. We were all seriously craving some sushi and Sushi Yashin was highly recommended. I had a salmon roll with avocado, an eel roll with avocado, and a spicy scallop roll. The spicy scallop roll was very good and the highlight of the meal. My sister had the eel roll with avocado and a salmon roll with avocado. She said the eel was her favorite. My mom had the eel bowl and it came with so much eel!

I took a chance on this small and rather run down neighborhood spot based on the 4 star rating. Not worth it. Mediocre sushi

I really wonder if our order was a fluke. There are so many great reviews for this place so had really high expectations. The quality was below average and definitely not fresh. Spent a lot of money for food I couldn't even eat.

Mackerel that doesn't tasty fishy. That is the sign of a good sushi restaurant. I personally hate sea urchin, but after the mackerel they get the shot. Second time in my life I've had it and didn't gag. Only other time was in Japan so for that, 5 stars. Omakase is completely worth it and while the post covid speed is a bit slow, the quality of the fish easily makes up for it. 100% we'll be back.

We made a Tue 6pm reservation via OpenTable (note for some reason it's listed as under Gowanus neighborhood) which we made the three following comments: Anniversary, Omakase, and Bar seating. It wasn't too busy yet but as we proceeded to order, we weren't given any recommendations or clarifications on the menu. The 15 piece omakase came with 1 kitchen appetizer, 1 hand roll, and 1 dessert. We went ahead and CHOSE a kitchen appetizer - that was our mistake I suppose. What it really meant was everything was chef's choice and it came out to be 12 (not 15) pieces of nigiri, 3 small hot/ cold samples from the kitchen, 1 hand roll, and ice cream. Anyhow the separate order of crab tempura and shrimp tempura appetizer was, just ok and for the $15ea extra we paid, it wasn't really worth it. The rest of the omakase wasn't very memorable: 3 types of mackerel, 3 servings of uni, 1 bluefin tuna, and a single type of soy sauce and presentation for everything. Not a single piece of salmon or octopus was served (which was clearly available in front of us). Most of the time when omakase is ordered, chefs talk to patrons - he was working directly in front of us afterall. Not this guy. Whats also bad about the service/ space was that the server would reach directly in front of me during service - thoroughly annoying. It's a tight space I understand and we would have been more comfortable at the table. Another thing of note was the fact that consistency just wasn't there. Why my partner's fish was cross cut and mine was just slits on top of the torched fish? Why does my uni look wetter than my partner's plate? When dessert came, the server did not acknowledge "anniversary" - so oh well. Very sad omakase service did not offer the variety I was looking for and seeing everything was one-note, I doubt we'll return.

First and last time ordering from Sushi Yashin. Ordered via the yelp app and it was a disaster. Their menu specifies that the salmon roll has salmon, crab, eel sauce and cucumber. Odd, but ok - I wanted it for a child, so I wrote in the notes "no wasabi, only salmon and cucumber please". Rolls arrives with salmon and wasabi, that was it. We also ordered 3 special rolls and the amount of actual fish in these was appalling - less then a standard roll is in regular restaurants. Spicy rolls weren't spicy, and the portions were tiny compared to most places that offer special rolls. Ridiculous disappointment. Called to ask that they redo the salmon rolls because of the wasabi. Woman didn't seem to believe me, and then when I explained over and over to look at her own yelp page to read the description and told her she was ruining our dinner on both fronts (my dinner was being ruined by her calling twice and questioning me over and over again over why I didn't fee obligated to pay additional $ for cucumber and my child was starving and screaming), she totally didn't get it. The description said that cucumber was in the darn things, didn't even mention wasabi, and even with my note, they STILL got it wrong. And frankly, take one on the chin lady - if you've ruined my dinner and I ask for the cucumber that is in the description by mistake and it normally costs extra, just honor the description as a courtesy for your error! Add to that, it took 25 minutes to redeliver from 3 blocks away. Won't order from here again. MUCH better delivery available elsewhere, and frankly, much better customer service just about anywhere!! This was a total disappointment on every front.

We've had several really good meals here. I love the little outdoor huts that feel like tatami rooms with tables instead of floor seating. We tried the omikase on our last visit, and the fish was very nicely prepared. And while it was slightly less expensive than Katsui, the preparation was not quite as expert, which is why I give Yashin 4 stars instead of 5.
