Sushi K - Review - Beverly Hills - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Taking over the former Rockpool space in Beverly Hills, Sushi K picks up right where its oddly named predecessor left off—serving a bargain-priced omakase in an area better known for sushi that costs as much as a car payment. There’s a set for $43 that includes eight pieces of nigiri and a handroll, and another with sashimi, ten nigiri, and a handroll for $78. Most of the fish arrive pre-brushed with soy and are sliced quite thinly, but the quality is respectable, including buttery salmon from Scotland, glossy yellowtail from Japan, and rich, dry-aged tuna. Sit at the bar, where chefs hand you pieces as they make small talk, and suddenly a sushi dinner in Beverly Hills will start to feel like a reasonable weeknight move." - Cathy Park

Sushi K - Review - Beverly Hills - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Budget-friendly omakase restaurant Rockpool was short-lived, but its Beverly Hills address is now home to Sushi K, a casual-leaning restaurant from the people behind Grand Central Market handroll spot Sushi Rush. The menu is as stripped-down as the decor, with an entry-level omakase, a la carte nigiri and handrolls, and a few cooked dishes like miso black cod and salmon collar. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Cathy Park

Google
Sushi K earns 5 stars on every count… the beautiful atmosphere, lovely server, interesting menu, superstar chef/owner, but mostly for the high quality sushi. It’s definitely the best sushi we’ve had anywhere in LA. We tried a variety of the nigiri, cut rolls, hand rolls, and appetizers, and everything was super delicious. The standouts were, well everything, but if I had to pick I’d say the crispy rice with tuna, scallop nigiri, and eel and avocado hand roll. The rice is perfectly made and the ratio of rice to fish really stands out compared to most sushi (less rice and more fish). There is a small but nice selection of sake, I recommend the Dessai. We ended the meal with the matcha and vanilla mochi which were creamy and just sweet enough to satisfy. The beautiful yet minimalist atmosphere made us feel like we had just entered a high end sushi restaurant in Tokyo, and evoked a feeling of calm as soon as we walked through the door. We sat at the sushi bar and had a fun time talking with chef Tomo throughout our meal. Our server immediately brought water and was always there when we were ready to place an order, without being overbearing. The restaurant is located in a smallish, unassuming storefront on Robertson. Luckily for me it’s within walking distance as I will coming here frequently. Highly recommend!!

Google
I had the pleasure of dining at SUSHI:K and was thoroughly impressed. The fish was incredibly fresh, and the omakase was thoughtful and well balanced. The atmosphere was relaxed and refined, making it perfect for both a casual night out and a special occasion. The staff were friendly and made us feel truly welcome. Such a great addition to Beverly Hills. I will definitely be back!

The omakase course was excellent—the ingredients were incredibly fresh and we were very satisfied. The Yuzu Margarita was also delicious. The unique style of breaking the bubble before drinking made it extra fun, even for the kids!

Google
Great sushi spot! Drove by and something about it just spoke to me—so glad I stopped. The vibe is non-presumptuous and welcoming. I went with the Omakase and it absolutely delivered. Fresh, thoughtful, and definitely worth a visit.

Yelp
3-3.5 stars. I was excited to try this new neighborhood spot after seeing all the great reviews but unfortunately my experience fell a bit short. I ordered the 8 piece nigiri set which came out to ~$50 after tax and tip. The sushi itself was pretty solid - the fish was fresh and tasty. However, at that price point I would expect a slightly bigger cut of fish, as both me and my partner walked away feeling a bit hungry. Service was very slow with the amount of people and we waited a while to order and never got water.

Yelp
Absolutely loved my experience here! I was staying at a hotel nearby and decided to walk the mile. It took to get to sushi K because it had such good reviews on here. So glad I did ! I was by myself, so I sat at the sushi counter, the place has an authentic intimate Japanese feel. The sushi chefs instantly looked like professionals, and clearly knew their craft. I ordered the K premium combo, with eight pieces of nigiri and a hand roll. I was blown away by the Nigiri, they were each made Omakase style, with sauces, garnishing, and small touches for flavor and texture, added into each piece. It was served in waves of four, with the hand roll following. I was absolutely blown away by the quality of the fish for the price, my favorite by far was the aburi salmon - the slight charred flavor from being flash torched was incredible. So much so that I ordered another individual two piece serving of it afterward. I also got the Shishido peppers which were delicious and served with a flaky topping that paired well and a Ponzu sauce. The quality for the price was fair, especially given the area. And the staff were so nice and professional. I even accidentally left my credit card there and they stayed behind 10 minutes after closing for me to come pick it up. Really appreciate everything, will definitely come back next time I'm in the area. !

Yelp
Excellent priced sushi. Chef really cares about what he does and he made the perfect place for someone who does not care for pretentious sushi but cares about quality and good value. It's a really calm atmosphere and the service was impeccable.

Yelp
Cute new sushi spot in Beverly Hills. I came here with coworkers and we went for the omakase, which was about $70 if I remember correctly. The quality of the fish was good, but at that price point I can't help but compare it to Sugarfish, which I personally prefer. I also felt like some of the cuts of fish were a bit on the smaller side. We all got the yuzu margarita which had a fun little twist to it with the smoke! And then shared some sake, which our server recommended to us and was delicious. That said, the service was excellent, very attentive and friendly from start to finish. The vibe was great for both a small group and a more intimate catch-up. It wasn't too loud, so conversation flowed easily while we enjoyed the food. Another plus: parking! Even though it's on a busy street, we had no trouble finding parking on a weeknight, which is always a win in Beverly Hills.

Yelp
We had a lovely birthday dinner there (Omakase x2)! Already have the revisit plan and bring with friends :)

Yelp
This place is truly a hidden gem. Amazing sushi, incredible staff, and beautiful music in the background. I will 100% be back!! Thank you Chef Tomo

Yelp
In a city drowning in sushi joints, SUSHI:K is the rarest of creatures: a place that actually gives a damn. It's the kind of spot you stumble upon and immediately want to keep secret, like a hidden fishing hole or a perfect dive bar. The fish? Flawless. At this price point, it feels like cheating. There's always something new and exciting on the specials board, the kind of fresh bites that make you wonder why you've been settling for the same tired yellowtail everywhere else. For the indecisive or adventurous, the omakase at $78 is an absolute steal, a guided tour of the day's best offerings that feels almost criminally underpriced. Prefer to chart your own course? You can go with a set reminiscent of Sugarfish or order à la carte like a true sushi ronin. Behind the counter, Tomo and Wasu run the show with a mix of skill, humor, and quiet pride. They're craftsmen, yes, but they also seem like they're genuinely having fun, and that energy seeps into every bite. If you're hunting for a sushi joint to call your own, a place you can hit on a random Tuesday without torching your bank account, this is it. I would say don't tell too many people... but some secrets are worth sharing.

Yelp
The margarita was amazing!!!!!!! Food was amazing. Will be going back!!! Celebrated my friend's birthday here and we were not disappointed.

Yelp
Ordered the Omakase and sat at the counter. Amazing! Best sushi I had in a very long time. Chef Tomo was our sushi chef and owner. Quiet music was a Tuesday night so not busy. Will be back!!

Yelp
What a hidden gem! I'm surprised there wasn't a packed house and we could walk right in at 6:30 PM on a Friday. We had the omakase set and it was well worth the $78. Each piece of fish was fresh and high quality. The uni is to-die-for. The chef was so nice and continued to check in on us. The cocktails are such a good deal, too! Parking was not bad at all; there is plenty of street parking. Well worth the trip from OC.

Yelp
Had the omakase here, 10 pieces of nigiri and a Handroll, plus Miso soup and a seaweed salad for $78. Fantastic quality, value and service. The ambiance is super nice and chill, an absolute gem of a sushi spot. Highly recommend and would come back for sure

Yelp
Sushi K exceeded my expectations. I walked in on a Wednesday without a reservation and sat at the sushi counter. The restaurant feels very fresh and clean and has a great vibe to it. Chef Tomo and is staff provided incredible service and created an experience that made me wanting more. I had the K Premium, but will definitely be back for the Omakase. Thanks Tomo!

David J.

Yelp
Well the first thing you should know is I drove over 350 miles, from Phoenix, Arizona, to try this place. The second thing you should know is I would do it again in a heartbeat. That's how good Sushi K is. Without question the finest, freshest, most inventive sushi I have ever had. Owner/Chef Tomo is both a master and a magician. Most of what is served is flown in fresh daily from Japan, and it shows, both in taste and texture. The establishment is small and intimate. If you sit at the counter you can enjoy a description of each dish from the Chef. Don't agonize over what to order, it's all incredible. I recommend you request the Chef's special Omakase and settle in for one of the most memorable dining experiences you will ever have. I guess the last thing to know is Sushi K may spoil going out for sushi anywhere else. Like I said, it's that good.

Yelp
Great fresh sushi and a nice atmosphere. Prices are very decent. Walking distance from my home. Second favorite sushi spot.

Yelp
One of the best new up and coming sushi restaurants on this side of LA. If you've ever had the hand rolls at Sushi Rush in grand central market, these are the same guys! Omakase is very reasonably priced and the experience is top notch.

Yelp
Wow! Had an amazing omakase meal tonight. Every piece of sushi was melt in your mouth delicious. The service was also top notch. Chef ToMo is a phenomenal sushi chef and we are so thrilled he opened this new spot. You can bet we will be regulars here!! Dont sleep on this spot-- if you love authentic, fresh, and mouth watering sushi then this is the place! Wish I'd taken more pics...

Yelp
Wow! What a great experience! From the time we walked in the door we were greeted instantly by all staff, followed by being seated right away. After being seated we ordered the best fresh sushi we've had in a long time. Sashimi was amazing and fresh from Japan specialty's

christine k.

Yelp
Amazing quality sushi!!! We went during their soft opening, and it was sooooo good! The restaurant has a clean minimalist zen vibe. The customer service was so attentive. My stomach left happy and full. Now back to the food... High quality sushi with comfortable vibes. I got the Premium K. 8 amazing nigiri that's so fresh - my favorites were the salmon with truffle oil and Hokkaido scallops. The crab handroll is made with real crab with a really nice crabby taste that's not so overpowering. We also got salmon and ikura nigiri too. For the quality, the prices were a steal! The yuzu sorbet at the end was such a clean, refreshing dessert - the perfect ending to an amazing meal! This place is a MUST TRY! Great new sushi place to try!

Yelp
Food was delicious and high quality for the price! All of the pieces of sushi were fresh and flavorful. Will absolutely be coming back

Yelp
I almost don't know where to begin... this place is fantastic. Sushi chef Tomo was incredibly hospitable and on top of his game. I ordered the Omakase which was hot after hit of amazing sushi. It started with the miso soup which still had the subtle smokiness of the bonito. Immediately satisfying. All 10 courses of nigiri were fresh and expertly prepared with the perfect amount of wasabi and came pre-seasoned with shoyu. I never once reached for the soy sauce container to add more. The toro taku hand roll was hands down the best I've ever had. I had to stop and enjoy the umami explosion. Finished everything off with yuzu sorbet and can't wait to go back!

Yelp
Really cute new spot near Beverly Hills. Came on a Saturday night and was able to get table for 2. Would go again!
google avatar

Ashley K.

Yelp
We went for the chef's special and... WOW --total flavor explosion! Every dish and every piece of nigiri was next-level delicious. Even my husband (aka Mr. Picky Eater ) loved everything we tried. The service? 10/10! And sitting at the counter is where all the omakase magic happens . The vibe is so chill and low-key--we're already counting down the days until we're back!

Scott N.

Yelp
If you want to taste authentic Japanese sushi in a great ambience that feels like you're in Japan, then Sushi K is place for you. Everything from the quality of the food, presentation, dinnerware, and service was on point. Will be coming back again.

Yelp
I went for their omakase set and it was wonderful--the fish was flavorful, smooth, and rich. The chefs were also very welcoming and friendly :) am visiting from out of town but would definitely recommend others to visit if they're in LA! Also got their bubble yuzu margarita and it was REALLY good--secret star of the show ;D

Yelp
Super fresh fish - most straight from Japan - ice cold sake - perfect time at fab prices - definitely back soon!

Yelp
My wife and I came in to Sushi K on a whim and were pleasantly surprised by the pricing, warm service, and quality of fish. We tried the shima aji, aji, seared salmon with truffle oil, oysters, yellowtail, ankimo, and toro for our sushi and goma tofu for a warm appetizer. The fish was amazingly fresh, presented perfectly, and melted in our mouths. It's clear they source the highest quality fish and import from Japan. After every bite, my wife did a happy dance. The tofu was presented in a delicious broth with bonito and a red paste - it was so warm and nostalgic. It felt like a family recipe passed down to the chef. We will definitely be back the next time we are craving sushi! 5 stars from us!!!
google avatar

Nikki R.

Yelp
One of the most memorable meals I've had in LA! The sushi is incredibly fresh, and there is so much attention to detail and care put into every menu item. (Be sure to order the Agedashi Homemade Goma Tofu!) Chef Tomo's kindness and the stories he shared brought a personal touch that made the experience even more meaningful. A truly special place!

Hi K.

Yelp
I'm definitely coming back to this sushi spot! Honestly, I still can't believe I found a place in LA where you get this kind of quality for the price. Every piece of sushi and every dish was so thoughtfully made, you can really tell how much care and skill goes into everything. We had the Premium set ($43), and our whole foodie girl group was absolutely thrilled!

Ginny L.

Yelp
Best unagi we ever had! Overall very fresh sushi and great omakase within a reasonable price! The chef is very nice and friendly as well and love the ambiance! Will come back again :)

Yelp
A total gem. Super quality food. What a great addition to the neighborhood. Omakase was delicious and quite reasonable.

Julie M.

Yelp
Sushi K is delicious! Such fresh ingredients and very friendly staff. I came to pick up a blue crab roll to go - it's one of the best I've ever had.? They welcomed me in warmly, prepared everything quickly and were so kind to come over to ask how I was doing while I was waiting. It's such beautiful decor inside. I can't wait to come back to have a meal here with friends. Highly recommended!

Stephanie N.

Yelp
Amazing food, service, and ambiance! So reasonably priced, fresh, and delicious. Highly recommend sitting at the bar to watch the chef work. Will be back!

Yelp
Quaint intimate sushi restaurant, with exceptional food and great service. A few minor kinks to work out as this place has only been open 2 months.... I highly recommend it.

Yelp
Excellent sushi at reasonable prices, plenty of street parking, just the kind of sushi place we've been waiting for in the Westside. HIGHLY recommend!!

Yelp
We dropped in because we had an event nearby and wanted a quick bite. Boy are we glad we did. This little sushi spot really packs a punch. Delicious. Authentic. Well priced. Wonderful service. Lovely ambience. We will be back to try all. The imported Japanese specials.

Yelp
First visit to Sushi K this evening. A lovely restaurant that just opened. We tried the Omakase Meals, I had the K's Premium Omakase and my husband had the Chef's Special Omakase. There were several options for Omakase at different price points which was great. Amazing value and everything was so delicious. Each piece of nigiri from the Omakase menus are already flavored so no need to dip in soy sauce. It was a great experience to try the Omakase sets and they also have a full list of ala carte sushi that can be ordered. I had the Strawberry Margarita in a Bubble which was really light and refreshing. The head chef/owner, Tomo-san and all the staff were very friendly and attentive. A nice, quiet ambiance that allows you to enjoy the meal and the experience. Look forward to visiting again.

Zachary B.

Yelp
Cannot recommend this place enough. Amazing atmosphere, chill vibes, perfect place for a date or to catch up with a friend. Food is amazing. The service is amazing. It is very much worth a trip here.

J A.

Yelp
Such high quality sushi that easily rivals if not surpasses the pricey neighboring sushi restaurants. Will be returning again and again.

Amneet K.

Yelp
I was recommended to try Sushi K by a friend and man, oh man, it did not disappoint!!! Chef Tomo has done something special here - amazing, fresh sushi at a price point reminiscent of a different time in Los Angeles. Two pieces of sushi ranges from $7 (salmon) to $15 (toro). We opted for the omakase ($78/pp - what a steal?) and left completely full and so happy. The fish was decadent, melt in your mouth, and paired with perfect amount of soy (when needed) and wasabi. Chef Tomo is one of the rare sushi chefs who understands how to sear a piece of fish without ruining the sushi - no propane taste, slightly warm, delicious. We also tried the Salmon Kama (collar) and holy moly it was falling off the bone, comforting, and perfectly salted. They also have great Japanese wine!!! And beer. Sushi K will be a neighborhood favorite for us. We can already tell it's one to add to the heavy hitter rotation.

Emily S.

Yelp
Amazing food! Fish was so fresh. Great service. The chef and owner were delightful. I highly recommend this restaurant. It was truly amazing! I will definitely come back.
