Wow!!! The flavors are amazing, this was my first time here and I tried the skewers- chicken, beef and shrimp - none of them disappointed. They were so rich in flavor and seasoning. Slightly spicy but u love spicy food so that was a huge plus for me. But my favorite was the shrimp. I highly recommend you check them out if you feel like trying new cultural foods. I also tried the salad with cilantro and that was phenomenal as well as the coconut rice which was maybe my least favorite but still very flavorful and it went well with everything else. Great service too, they were so friendly!

Everything was fresh, flavorful, and the portions were great. Friendly service and a welcoming vibe made the experience even better. I’ll definitely be back!

This is the best Nigerian food I've ever tried! They give you big portions for great prices. It's a local owned restaurant so please go support it. The food and service is so amazing. 10/10 would recommend and I'm now going to be a regular!!

Suya is dry, the meat is wet and all I taste is salt and pepper, no other flavor what a waste of beef. If I wanted eat shitty food, I would cook it myself. N.O.

Quality authentic African food that’s worth the drive if you don’t live locally. Excellent customer service, wait time is a bit long but that’s because the food is truly made fresh to serve. Plenty of options, from rice, meats, veggies, and soup. If your spice palette isn’t strong then certainly stick with the milder options. We really enjoyed the fresh pressed juices that’s offered with every meal. I’d definitely go back for any occasion.

I wanted to try African food for the 3rd time ( I didn’t like it at the other places I went)and was told this restaurant has good food. I came in and was greeted at the door, the young man at the front was very nice. I ordered the egusi but was given vegetable stew with yam fufu instead. I didn’t realize it until I left and showed my friend what I ate. Neverless it was absolutely delicious, my husband had the Jollof rice and beef suya again delicious. This place is very clean inside with plenty of seating. I highly recommend. Next time I want the egusi please 😊

Easy to order over phone, my pickup eta was 30mins & was on time when I got there. Per person Each meal was $18 but had plenty of rice about 3cups I would say & and 2 skewers were plenty meat. The chicken thighs that were the skewers, were so tender.Suggestion ; they should mention that the meats that come on the meal are *Spicy. Jollof rice was sweeter than the coconut rice js. I didn’t know there was different kinds of the soup to chose so im not sure what it was but I think beef ? But it was good ! Tasted like potatoes n beef, mushy texture

Some of the best Nigerian food I’ve ever had had. Came in before a long day of travel. Left with a homemade bowl of egusi soup made fresh to order. Anytime I find myself in Texas I’ll come back!!!!! So good !

We love Suya Hut! My husband I go here atleast twice a month if not more. We especially like the beef suya extra spicy! They are family owned, shout out to Aruna! He is the best!

A friend recommended that this establishment has the best suya. I was highly disappointed. You can tell from the pic that it wasn't cooked fresh. I arrived two hours from closing so it's not like I came right before closing. The jollof was decent, had a good smoke flavor. I don't think I would give this place another try.

I'm so angry it took 30 years of life for me to discover the world of suya, a popular street food hailing from northern Nigeria in the form of thin meat skewers marinated in copious spices and barbecued. I spent a great deal of time researching all the best Nigerian restaurants in the Houston metroplex and ultimately settled on Suya Hut. Was it worth the 25 minute drive to Katy? Without a doubt. The venue is humble and small, with a shiny tile floor, bright orange walls, and a hand-written chalkboard menu. The man behind the counter was jovial and friendly, jokingly quizzing us about the country flags adorning the wall. We did take-out and ate our fill back at home. Be forewarned that they don't shy away from spice. In fact, my rose was running by the end, and I have a fairly high tolerance. Suya - we ordered a ton, both chicken and beef, and basically finished all of it. The meat was nicely charred, juicy, and packed a healthy dose of fruity heat. The chicken especially was awesome. I would go back for just this. Jollof Rice - some of the best I've had, with a really smoky quality and a nice pungent and sweet flavor. Catfish Pepper Soup - a deliciously zesty preparation with moist, flaky fish. The spice reminded me of Cajun cooking, with a kind of dry burning that creeps into the back of your throat. Egusi - a classic soup of blended greens and melon seeds that was vegetal and light; a nice change of pace from the other intense and oily items. It tasted savory, refreshing, and satisfying. Even the accompanying plantains were yummy and sweet. For our accompanying starch, we chose pounded yam. My Nigerian buddy informed me that these staples (fufu, amala, etc.) are dubbed "swallow" because you're supposed to dip it in stuff and do just that - no chewing! But I confess that I cheated because I kind of like the gummy texture. As you can probably tell, I thoroughly enjoyed this meal and would recommend it to anyone looking to try Nigerian cuisine.

I was debating on where to go and get Suya and Rice. I had a few places in mind like Paddy's Point, Motherland, Bantu Vibes, and Class Plus Chez Clarisse. All of which I have not tried yet. I decided to come here. I must say that I was not impressed. I got 3 beef Suya Sticks and 1 Gizzard Suya. I was undecided on what rice to get. I asked about their Coconut Rice and the guy said that they were out so I got Jollof Rice. I was really looking forward to the the Jollof Rice because I have not had it in a long time. The Suya sticks were good but not very meaty. The Gizzard stick was very filling and spicy. The Rice was a let down for me. It tasted like rice with tomato sauce no spice or anything. I may try them again in the future or not.

It's a shame that this place is tucked into the corner of this shopping center! The food is great, and the staff is really nice. Both the chicken and beef skewers are amazingly flavorful. You also can't go wrong with either jollof or coconut rice!

My friends ordered and picked up food from Suya Hut so this was my first time having it. They got me the shrimp suya, with jollof rice and plantain. The food was alright, nothing special. Perhaps because it took over an hour to make and then they had to bring to me but it wasn't that great. The jollof could have been much better but I'll give them a try again.

the food is well seasoned and made fresh to order. best zobo drinks in houston. jollof is smokey and the catfish pepper soup is flavorful! if you like spice, come here! they also have cute hand made keychains they gave us for free. i'd rate higher if i could! they are very kind and play good music too! definitely my new favorite spot

This place is at least a 30 minutes drive from my home, but I was in search of some really good egusi soup and couldn't find any place closer. Plus Suya Hut was featured on PBS "No Passport Required" and my curiosity was piqued ever since watching the episode. The restaurant is very simple in decor and located in a shopping center tucked away in a corner. The young man at the counter greeted me with a warm smile and provided excellent customer service. The wait was long but the food was absolutely delicious! I had pounded yam with the egusi soup, beef suya, chicken suya, and ordered designer stew with steamed rice for my husband. Both dishes were hot and seemed to be freshly prepared which is highly appreciated!! The suya sticks were all delicious as well! The portion size and price were average in comparison to other Nigerian food restaurants in the area. I'll definitely return, but will order ahead if possible or even dine in.

Drove in from Austin after seeing this tasty food on Marcus Samuelson's show " No passport required". I've never had Jollof rice or Suya before this. It was so delicious! next time I'm ordering double

Suya Hut is ok. the best in Houston when it comes to an actual business storefront. However, I have had better in Houston from cats that will set up shop outside of a club. Otherwise, they're just ok.

[Catering]: I ordered 50 chicken suya days in advance for an event. Called to confirm the day of before picking up, and the receptionist couldn't get my order right: * he claimed the person who took my order wrote down the wrong pickup time * I then called again an hour before the rescheduled pick-up time and they were preparing beef suya instead of chicken As you might imagine, this order was late, affected my preparation, and they still demanded full price.

The food was delicious, and the owner was friendly. 10/10 would recommend this restaurant! Also, the music was great.

Ok, the good is really good but the bad makes me question if I'll be back, even for the good. It's called Suya Hut so of course the suya is great. My recommendation to them is to focus on that, because I decided to try out the vegetable soup as well, and that was horrendously BAD! The soup was extremely salty, vegetable was over cooked and the stew base was definitely not fresh- it tasted like stew that had been heated many times over. Shocking because I was told everything is prepared as orders are placed, this made me ok with giving a 45 min prep time. Who doesn't like fresh food? Ordered with assorted meat, but there was only 1 piece of meat in the soup, the rest was chopped up into tiny pieces. Lol. I got there 50 minutes after placing my order and still had to sit in my car, calling them multiple times for my food to be brought out, even though they told me that my food was being packaged when I called upon arrival. Instead of giving a proper apology, the guy who brought out my order simply said it was his mistake for not telling me it would take at least an hour. Good suya ONLY, poor service, do not attempt the soup.

Visiting my Mom today, and we discovered Suya Hut. If you could give more than 5 stars I would. This local, mom and pop 'gem' of a restaurant serves delicious Nigerian food in the Meadows Place. I tried their egusi soup and mom got the Okra soup. Both of our soups were really terrific- yes, we shared. That fufu though......I'm pretty certain I heard angels singing when I took a bite of the egusi and the fufu together. Thanks guys for introducing me to your wonderful food. Next time, we are trying the Suya chicken!!

Delicious, actually hospitable, and reasonable priced. The rice portions are insane. Call ahead because it takes about 30 minutes for Suya. I tried the chicken and beef suya, both were smacking. The chicken one was actually juicy but the beef had a little more seasoning so it was my favorite. Their plantains aren't the super hard ones I'm used to getting from Nigerian restaurants so I should have definitely ordered an extra side. Everything was perfect. I just wish they had meat pies. *hint hint.

It was ok, just ok. I've had better Jollof rice. Would I go back, maybe but it would only be for suya.

The food is delicious, probably the best I've ever had, but no joke it's expensive and they have no concept of customer service. I won't return because they had no love for me, but could smile all day at the white couple that ordered. The food also took an extremely long time to come out with absolutely no explanation as to why.

We were in the mood for suya and decided to try this spot out. The Suya was mehhhhh (I've had better)... This review is not only for the suya, but mainly for the horrible customer service we have received from this establishment. We ordered some suya to be shipped to our address outside of Houston and when it was delivered to us it was in a mail box (literally) and the suya was not wrapped well and unfortunately was spoiled and or contaminated by the time it all arrived. We have called numerous amount of times to get a full understanding of what may have taken place from the time it was made, sealed and sent to us from the manager and here we are 7/20/2018 still awaiting a call from the manager/owner. This is Not Good Customer service!

The food was heavy in spice and flavor but also pretty healthy and the meat lean. Also very affordable. Fast and easy curbside service

This was some of the best Suya I have ever tasted before, I purchased beef and chicken. The location is in Southwest Houston. The beef Suya was amazing, tender and juicy. You should call in your order ahead of time. I purchase $50 dollars worth, I wasn't able to call in because no one picked up after a few repeated calls. The restaurant is nice and cleans.

Great service. The wait time was a bit longer, but to compensate for that time, they had extra suya for us in the bag. The chicken suya is BOMB, my favorite. I have been here 3 times before making this post, but I am a fan as long as I'm going to live in Houston.

i grew up eating suya . this aint it. worst place to get suya. crave suya is better. suya hut has no problem serving raw meat to customers. overpriced and will not replace or compensate for the mistake. store looks dirty , terrible customer service. good luck eating from this place, youll need it .your order will never be ready on time.

The food was great and the waiter was friendly, but the restaurant itself could use some work. A lot of the restaurant is worn down and it didn't even look open from the outside. Nevertheless the food was great!

Always good! but Always call in your order or you'll be waiting FOREVER! I highly recommend the chicken and beef Suya. I am not the type to usually like chicken Suya, but there's is seasoned well and a great size, especially in comparison to the beef Suya.

I go here all the time. It's my favorite suya place. I'd say sabo suya spot has more of a dry rub. I like the marinade at suya hut better. I usually order the jollof rice, beef suya, and plantains combo. This combo is HUGE. They give a generous amount of jollof rice. Which is good, because I love jollof rice. It comes with 3 beef suya and thick slices of plaintains. I usually order 3 extra beef suya and share with a friend. Also, the customer service here is great. I noticed a lot of patrons are close with the owners of the establishment. I love hole in wall places with a community vibe. This place is family owned with a son usually working the cashier and another son working in the back. I got to meet Haruna and he made me feel very welcomed. Overall, I'd come back. Good vibes, great music, clean and good food. Tip: Taking a bite of beef suya with tomato and onions is a flavor explosion. And that jollof rice too, mmmm.

Authentic tasting Nigerian food... I am European, and worked 35 years in various countries. I spent 7 years in Nigeria, from 1992 until 1999. Based in Port-Harcourt, I also spent time in Lagos and Warri. During my time in Nigeria, I worked at various locations, including land and swamp. At times, only local food was available. This enabled me to discover and taste a lot of different dishes prepared with fresh ingredients, in the most traditional way. I always liked the natural ways of the Nigerian dishes. Suya being the most well known of them, but my favorite is Egusi soup with pounded Yam, or Garri. I always longed to be able to sample again on those exotic preparations. After doing a little bit of research, the Suya Hut popped on my radar, and I decided to give it a trial. It did not disappoint! I ate my Egusi soup the Nigerian traditional way, and my spouse enjoyed the beef Suya for the first time. I was suddenly back in Port-Harcout, eating a local restaurants with my crew, drinking my Star or my Gulder before heading to Friends, Chichi, Big Sisters, Barracuda and other Toby Jugs... We used to eat Suya at the "Principal's office", which was a school, but at night, a bar... So for those of you who never tried it, and a curious, the Suya Hut is it! Staff is friendly, and in these times of Covid-19, you call, they deliver outside to your car. Just a fantastic place, out of the beaten path....

When it comes to getting good Nigerian Food, I always drive out to this spot even though it is a bit of a haul for me. They have a great variety of food on the menu and it tastes really good. They also do to-go orders that you can call in ahead of time. If you happen to have an event out of town they will even ship some of their specialties, like suya, on dry ice to you. The staff is always polite. Definitely a great place to visit.

Major hole in the wall!! I always passed by this location but never knew this place existed until my friend took me. I've eaten suya before but the one they serve here is different from dry seasoned suya, it's more moist and saucy. I got the mild beef suya because I was scared that it was going to be too spicy but I should've went spicier. I love the onions and tomatoes on the side, it really helped freshen up the taste. The staff was very nice and friendly and full of energy. Next time I want to try other stuff on the menu

This place was a stop on the "Taste of Black Houston" Bus tour. We arrived to an empty, sparsely decorated, cozy little restaurant. I was a little disappointed that the owner hadn't prepared the samples included on the tour. It's not like he didn't know we were coming. He scrambled to prepare and serve Suya Beef to about 30 patrons. The first batch was spicy which were grabbed up quickly. Despite my disdain for spicy foods, I really enjoyed it! The lack of preparedness tarnished my visit. If I'm in the area, I may return.

I've never heard if this place before today . I was referred to this place by a client of mine. The food is fresh and hot. I ordered the coconut rice and plantains with the red sauce without meat. I ordered the Vita Malt non alcoholic drink. This food is banging . I paid $8.95 for the food and $2.15 for the drink. I'm satisfied and I will be back. The bathroom is clean, the place is clean, and the Afrobeat music is off the chain.

Finally got a spot with some good spicey suya! This hit the spot! Like for real for real the service was good place was clean. I definitely will take this trip again

This joint was interesting. Walked in there today at around midday and if was totally empty except for some Mexican guy who looked like one of the cooks and the lady at the front desk. It took her a bit too long before she attended the us. Now being Nigerian, I kind of expected this so did not ding her too much for this. The place was clean, in a relatuvely nice neighborood and smelled fresh. Great start. Now to the food.we started with the chicken and beef suya. They were so so good. The meats were tender and nicely spiced. My hubs got the chicken jollof rice and I got the catfish pepper soup. Both of these items were very tasty. My hubs did for m gripe about the chicken in the rice being the same as the chicken suya. So keep that in mind when you order this because it might be redundant if you've already gotten chicken suya. This place had awesome food. You don't even have to be naija to enjoy. Final grade: A-

I always enjoy supporting my African people in their different businesses so eating here was a must. The wait for food is longer than other African food spots that I have eaten at before but the food here is top tier in taste with the other restaurants that I have gotten jollof and egusi etc from so this place did not disappoint.

I call and the orders done in like 5-10 minutes! Fast working team in there, and never disappoints with the food! Beef and Chicken Suya is to die for!!!!!

Chicken suya was perfect! Loved the plantains and the jollof. Guy who took my order and brought it out to me was so nice and pleasant. I'll definitely be back!

This place is hype for nothing lol , the rice isn't all that.... at least put some stew on top. The Suya takes FOREVER to come out, and most of the time it's burned.

Taste: I come to Suya hut for the Plantains and Suya, both of which taste amazing here, I highly recommend getting the Suya spicy instead of mild because Suya tastes best that way. If it's too spicy get some Snapple tea to drink with it. I like the Jallof as well but I usually stick to just Suya and Plantains because those two are my favorites. Price: Very cheap for the Quality of food you get. I usually get 8 Suya and 2 orders of plantains with a Snapple tea and it comes out to about $18 for home cooked quality food. You may wait a little longer for your food here but that's because it's home cooked style food. NOT McDonalds. Have some patience. This is one of my Favorite places to eat, I will definitely keep coming back here as many times as possible.

It is definitely a simple layout, but absolutely a great spot. Good prices good food. They are super friendly as well. The chicken Suya is awesome.

5/5 STARS! Found this place very randomly and I am so happy I did. Ordered the rice box with chicken and beef suya. I had never had this type of food before and was very impressed with the spices and flavors. The suya was tender and very flavorful. Plantains and rice paired great with the meal. The suya is not for the faint of heart. The spices and HEAT had my nose and eyes watering!

African food was awesome, had the beef suya and it was delicious. Delicious food at a good price, staff is very kind and polite, an overall pleasure to eat there.

The Suya and Plantains were delicious! My Suya was very well seasoned and spicy (they also offer a mild Suya).The plantains were sliced in large pieces(which I had no issue with because I love plantains) My food was hot and fresh. The prices were fair. The service was good the lady on front counter was very helpful. They are located very close to job so I think I will be going on a regular basis.

My coworkers and I love this place! Great customer service and love the suya! Even when I have to swing by and just pick up my order quickly, they always have it prepared by the time I get there and pack each individual coworkers suya separately so that I avoid the headache of having to divvy the sticks. My mom and uncle also tried it the other day and I don't think I've seen them eat out without complaining or criticizing something this past year and both of them are addicted now!

The suya is really good like it's top 2. 4 starts because when you order and set a pickup time, you most likely would have to wait before you get your order.

Our friend raved about this place but upon sampling the actual suya we were highly disappointed. We bought chicken, beef and gizzard suya. Meat was tender, but did not taste like suya. They should take syuya out of their menu and stick with the other items for now p.s. we didnt taste the other items. Visitors from Abuja, London, Los Angeles!
