Suzie’s is quickly becoming a weekly stop. The staff are so sweet, the salmon bites and crawfish tails might make you slap somebody, and the happy hour drinks are nice.

My husband wanted soul food from a “hole in the wall” and this hit the mark! The music was good and loud enough to drown out the other tables. The service was fantastic- plenty of refills, condiments, boxes and everything in between. The parking was the only “bad part” but that’s city life! $50 for two meals, premium sides, sodas, and dessert. Highly recommend

The fried chicken here was the best we've ever had! The chef signature salmon bites are a must. The staff was amazing and the atmosphere was great. We ended up going here twice on our 3-day stay on St. Charles Ave.

We were there shortly after they opened for dinner and were the only people in the place. There were seven of us. From the time we walked in, to the time we got our food, it was an hour. Not a fan of the ordering process. You will see a lot of comments about this throughout the reviews. I can’t imagine being there during the dinner rush. However, it was worth the wait because the fried chicken was probably the best I’ve ever eaten. I got two sides of collard greens. They were amazing. Everyone at my table loved their food. The peach bread pudding needed some flavor. It tasted like hot, mashed peaches in a bowl of warm, wet bread. It needed some cinnamon and some ice cream.

We stopped in for the last dinner of our trip after spending the day at the WWII museum. Everything we tried was so good. We all decided that it was the best meal we had in New Orleans!

Took a mancation to new Orleans and wanted to try something different. This place is fantastic! Not too expensive and a lot of food to eat. I had the salmon bites platter. It came with fries, hush puppies, and a nice slice of cornbread. You better come hungry! Hope you guys enjoy!! We sure did!

I'm from Chicago, but fell in love with New Orleans and it's food back in the 90's. I now travel there at least 3 times a year to eat, drink and be merry. I have a few favorite restaurants that I always have to eat at and now I have one more! Suzie's Soulhouse has the most consistently delicious and authentic home cooked southern soul food that I have tried! The fried chicken is the BEST I've ever had! (*my number 2 is now "lil Dizzy's" also in Nola) The mac and cheese was the BEST I've ever had (and I've had a lot)! The greens were the BEST I ever had...so perfectly seasoned that I didn't add hot sauce which I normally do. It was too darn tasty to mess with! However, Suzie's has Crystal and Louisiana hot sauces so they've got you covered! The atmosphere is low key, nothing fancy, but comfortable enough with plenty of tvs everywhere to watch sports or news. My server, Andrea was very helpful and kind. The prices were great, especially with current inflation! Suzie's also has stewed chicken and smothered pork chops and try to find that outside your grandma's actual southern kitchen! It's a pretty 25 minute walk from the quarter and right by the WW2 museum. Go to Suzie's Soulhouse next chance you get! It is as good as it gets!

Yelp
I was visiting town with several other folks who had never been to the south -- let alone New Orleans. They couldn't have had a better introduction to soul food! Everything from the catfish and jambalaya to the fried chicken and gumbo was packed with the flavors and spices that can only be found in New Orleans, and every one of us was blown away! The only downsides were they only have takeout for lunch, the food took a while to prepare (well with the wait!), and now my friends' bar for soul food is impossibly high .

Yelp
While visiting NOLA for my anniversary, my wife wanted soul food in NOLA so I searched Yelp and found this place. There's not many soul food places in NOLA to my surprise. When you walk in you're greeted and told to get a menu and place your order at the counter. They will bring your food to your table. You pick any available table. That seems to be a thing in NOLA. The place plays contemporary jazz in the background so nice ambiance. They also have TV screens playing sports. I ordered the fried chicken, cabbage and jambalaya. Everything is WELL seasoned! I love seasoned food but this was too much for me. If it was a bit less seasoned I would have enjoyed it more. My wife got the shrimp platter with corn and mac & cheese. She felt her food was good and seasoned well. She wants to go back for lunch. To be fair I'm not a soul food person. It's not my first choice of food since I ate a lot of this food at church.

Yelp
Yes! It was yummy. We had the fried chicken and rib plates. We also tried almost all their sides. The mac n cheese so yummy and just the right amount of cheese. It was one of the most yummiest mac n cheese, I've tried. We also had the greens that were also yummy but a little salty for my taste, still I would return just to eat those. The corn bread was amazing, I was so happy with the texture, as it was not dry. My husband highly enjoyed the mashed sweet potato, they were his favorite as he enjoys sweets. The fried chicken left me wanting more, however, the ribs were not my favorite although they were tender, and had a good tangy flavor. I should have taken a picture of our plates because there was no leftovers. We had lemonade and the sweetest of teas. Honestly I highly enjoyed our meals The service was amazing, and super friendly. I also took an amazing peach bread pudding to go. The restaurant was golden and welcoming, they even asked if we wanted our table candle lit. Thank you to the ladies at Susie's. It was great.

Yelp
New Orleans, like many major cities, is changing. Large scale gentrification and chain corporations can make you long for the days when you could stop by a neighbor's house to "get a plate", and you know that plate would be delicious and made with love. Well folks, New Orleans is lucky to have a place right uptown where you can get that homecooked flavor, at the one-and-only Suzie's Soulhouse, a family-run restaurant that has years of experience in local catering. My husband and I went to Suzie's on a Saturday evening, and got a table with no wait. The staff (Suzie's daughters) were welcoming and friendly, and fellow patrons also contributed to a very chill, casual vibe. We started off with homemade lemonade, which was the perfect ratio of sweet to tart. I had the seafood pasta, which features a tasty cream sauce and crawfish. My husband had the fried chicken, which he reported as crispy and flavorful on the outside, and moist on the inside. His dish came with delicious mac n' cheese and smothered cabbage. The real mic drop at Suzie's Soulhouse came with dessert. We got the peach bread pudding with rum sauce, and it was HEAVEN. Now I have family from New Orleans, and lived there for 7 years, so I know my way around a bread pudding. I daresay I am a bread pudding conossoire. This was the best bread pudding I have eaten in my long and blessed life; moist and tasty, the peaches added some excellent fruitiness, and the sauce was truly sensational. Don't miss this soul food experience that leaves you feeling like you just left your mama's house after a lovingly prepared meal. That is, if your mama is a gourmet cook from New Orleans! The food here is prepared with quality and time, which are lacking in today's society. Chef Suzie even came out of the kitchen to greet us, for which I felt extremely lucky! Don't miss this uptown gem!

Yelp
Yeah.... Yeah... Yeah... ((sigh)) I absolutely LOVE supporting local businesses ANYWAYS possible. Certainly adore supporting black owned businesses. . Ok, so I went on yelp for find a place that served cornbread... I was craving it like crazy (not on my daily or monthly eating habit at all - but I HAD to have some). Anyways, I called a number of times to one get menu, the. 2 to get address/location clarification. I arrived... Their sides (collards/cabbages) had meat in them / bomber :-( I don't consume meat. Anyways... I ordered (2) cornbread pieces, a side of Mac & cheese and a lemonade (they had peak sweat tea - I wanted homemade). I about chocked when the young lady told me my total it was $18.52!!! Whatttttt I immediately said - No ma'am... I will have (1) cornbread and lemonade. I don't drink water OR any beverage with "ice"... Ok, I asked for no ice, young lady said ok. So, she came with my cornbread, the. i tasted it... it was very good. The. i stood there waiting for my lemonade. I seen her fill the cup, I said - I'm waiting for my lemonade. She spun around and walked to the side and came back with the cup & straw. The kids doesn't fit properly. I said thanks... as aim walking off, top pops off and I notice it's. VERY light. I go back to the counter to secure lid then noticed - WHERES THE REST OF THE LEMONADE!?? Wow... I asked nicely - Ma'am may I have more lemonade please... The young lady looked embarrassed then there was another lady (now know it was a daughter I guess), came walking off and stated .."If you don't get ice, we don't fill the cup all the way up." I had the look of WTH on my face! She said it again ... "We don't fill the cups all the way up if you don't get ice." I was furious like - ARE YOU SERIOUSSSSSSS! For a 16 oz styrofoam white cup for $2.99 and I have to get ICE If I want a beverage!? WTH!!!! I've NEVER!!! . I have multiple businesses and what I experience with the "no ice, no full cup" thingy - I would NEVER. I was a 1st timer and it will remain that way. I was coming back with my hubby next week for dinner, but after that - no way! I understand inflation coast with inventory as any other restaurant owner, but we all know that it coast about 5-8¢ to make sweet tea and about 10-15¢ to make homemade lemonade. Mind you the lemonade wasn't true lemonade... why it took them a while to go get my lemonade - there was something "added" to it. It wasn't true lemonade. I couldn't stomach the 1/2 of the 1/2 I received. . When I went in, there were ZERO customers patronizing there. It was around 6 PM. The cost is bananas. I don't mind paying for great service, even if the food isn't up to par, but the whole experience is a red line off my "swing by" list. You can't make payroll off of (1) meal. Heck - I didn't have a full meal!!! It was 2 cornbread a side of Mac & cheese, then a 1/3 cup of mixed lemonade. For over $18.... After deleting items - I had 1 cornbread and a lemonade for over $7.00 After I left, my thought was... I should have gotten a refund and picked up a fruit bowl, because THAT wasn't it. I was ROYALLY disappointed. Maybe that explain why there was NO ONE in the establishment, even if they HAVE been in business for awhile. You can't have everyone attempting to run your business efficiently and with great customer service, which is MAJORLY absent in businesses today. . Hate it , but they won't see me again there EVER. . See pic of a side of Mac & cheese (not my I found from another review. A "small" cup for $6.00!!!?? Holy Taledo!! Bring a stack of cash if you plan to eat here and bring your own drink because you won't get a full cup without ice. Ok - ok - ok... Review over.

Yelp
Today is our last day in NOLA and wanted to try some soul food. Had the fried chicken, crispy and juicy 10/10. Had cornbread very moist 10/10, collards were well seasoned 10/10. Mac and cheese was a dud on the same level as Kraft Mac and cheese, very disappointed. You guys have to work on the Mac and cheese. The service was great. Would definitely come back.

Yelp
I have never posted a restaurant review before but I had to do it. I am from NJ and I was looking for a place to eat while in New Orleans, somehow I stumbled across this place and decided to give it a try. I am so glad I did! I am not exaggerating when I say this might have been one of the best meals I ever had!!! The ribs were falling off the bone, so tasty and tender! The greens - I don't know how they cooked them but they were absolutely delicious. My wife had Secondline Pasta, she loved it. Luckily we asked for a piece of cornbread - AMAZING! The people were super friendly. We will be back before we go back home. Awesome experience!

Yelp
The food, service, and location are perfect! The food has a true authentic southern taste and the jambalaya is a hidden jewel in New Orleans !

Yelp
Good food. Great service. The greens could have a bit more flavor but the ribs are tensor and the sauce is different. Crawfish and shrimp pasta was good. Cool little place They serve wine, beer and seltzers.

Yelp
Food was the best I had during my various visits to New Orleans Louisiana. My husband and son and I ordered different dishes and I got to try each one. The dessert was delicious also.

Yelp
First day in NOLA with my partner and we found this spot! AMAZING FOOD FRIENDLY SERVICE AND OVERALL CALM SOOTHING ENVIRONMENT! Fries, Mac and cheese, fried chicken, and BBQ ribs were a 10/10! I kid you not, best soul food I eve had! If you're a tourist like myself or happen to be around the area and want some great soul food, COME TO SUZIES SOULHOUSE!!!! Shout out to ARLESHA the host who was real patient with us!

Yelp
The tables were a bit sticky but we're not mad about that. The service was friendly and quick. The food was great! We got the St. Charles catfish over jambalaya and cleaned the plate. Cooked perfectly, flavorful - really hit the spot! It's too bad we weren't hungrier, other dishes looked tasty too.

Dione R.

Yelp
When you walk in you get a menu and seat yourself. Look at your menu then walk to the counter and place your order. When you look at my pictures you will see the comments on the food. Sorry this was a flop not a flip. Hope it gets better but we were extremely disappointed. We didn't complain, we didn't get to go plates we just graciously paid and said thank you. We are foodies and local NOLA citizens and know good food. On to our next adventure.

Yelp
Walked in for the first time the smell of the place brought be back, I was going for pizza..I ordered the fried chicken plate with Mac and mashed sweet potatoes...yall, the fried chicken was fire, crunchy, crispy and right out the grease it was very yummy. The mac and cheese was amazing the sweet potatoes was also really good . Now I'm ready to go lay on my side and fall into a food coma. Definitely will recommend this place to tourists and friends

Yelp
Stumbled upon this new soul food place, it was delicious! We had a great plate of catfish at a great price. Our 3.5 year old loved their Mac n' cheese and cornbread. Service was very attentive and we will come in again! A great addition to the neighborhood!

Ashlee L.

Yelp
Cute quaint place but it was very smokey and smelled of grease. Three different items we requested they were out of. asked for mustard greens and got collards that wasn't cooked long enough with a strong vinegar taste. If you advertising food on your food board 1 hour after opening, no excuse you're out. Greens served without cornbread should be a cardinal sin. I work in the service industry in New Orleans and i cannot with a good conscience recommend this establishment with sweet tea and no non sweet tea. They have a lot to improve on and i wish them the very best...
