"Ryan Swanson, an alum of Barnacle, The Whale Wins, and Delancey, began experimenting with pizza dough in his backyard, and now pops up at Letterpress Distilling in SoDo and Fair Isle Brewing in Ballard regularly, slinging a short but inventive list of pizzas out of his two Ooni ovens. One of Swannie’s more recent items was “green pie” with arugula, potato and garlic with aged mozzarella on a chewy and charred Neapolitan-ish crust. Swanson occasionally brings in house-made sodas and desserts like caramel chocolate chip cookies with sea salt. Follow its Instagram for upcoming menus and locations." - Jade Yamazaki Stewart

I think it's the best bar in the area, and it's constantly being updated. Juke box, pool, darts, great bar food, amazing drinks. The crowd is always very uplifting. Not to mention the staff is so friendly, always accommodating, offers tastings of beer and wine, and comedy coupons to guests that are interested. They even look up bus schedules or help give you information about what's good in the city. Check it out.

Google
There is a line at the bar of a dozen or so people before a Sounders game and the bartenders barely paid any attention to the people in the line. People behind me would go to the other side of the bar to try and cut the line. Sure enough, the bartender served them first while ignoring all of us in line. Poor service!

Google
I thought I had already left a review for swanny's. This is our go to hangout pre game for the Seahawks. We park about a block away roll in and get some beer and food so we're ready for the game. The people are very nice. The place is not very big so it's going to be busy but they know how to serve people quickly. the food specials on game day are great. You're not going to find better bar food around. Great place forget your football jam going.

Google
Worst...service...ever... The other reviews about the bartender not serving people in different areas of the bar is a fact. So many better bars in Pioneer Square to spend your time and money. Avoid this place like at all costs

Google
Bartender was rude and made poor drinks, she literally insulted one of our party to his face for nothing. she served us at 8.15pm sept 30th. She looked miserable, maybe this isn't the job for her.

Heather Griffin

Google
Bartender was horrible, would completely ignore customers in line but if you went to another corner of the bar he would magically take your drink order. Food was disgusting, cold frys and they didn't even offer us napkins.....stay away

Steve Means

Google
Always my go to for pre-drinking before a sounders game. Unlike other reviewers I've always had great service here and no issues getting drinks.

Jeremy Richner

Google
It's a good atmosphere and friendly staff, but they charged us twice for our drinks! Trying to get ahold of someone at Swannies to straighten it out has not been fruitful!

Yelp
Best lunch spot in Pioneer Square (I haven't visited at night). Swannie's food is easily among the best value around downtown. The sandwiches are substantial, hearty and slathered in amazing sauces. Ask for extra napkins though, because you'll need them for these burgers. Yum! The fries are good, because of the thick ground salt and pepper. Although they could be better if they switched to skinny cut fries (hint-hint to the cook). The price is what I would expect to pay for lunch in downtown Seattle. But the amount of food you get at Swannie's is more substantial than what you'd pay for one carb-loaded sandwich wrap from the nearby lunch spots. My favorite part about grabbing lunch here is the glass-enclosed seating. The glass-enclosed seating is nice because Swannie's is a bar and painted dark inside - so most people might think it's a typical dark, divy, bar - but it's actually well-lit in the front of house.

Yelp
Went here for bloody marys before the Seahawk game on Sunday. They were pretty busy but we scored on a couple of stools near the window. The bloody marys were just ok. Nothing special. I was not a fan of the ice in the drinks. It was the little pebble ice. Great for a soda in a styrofoam cup but not a cocktail. Service was a little slow because of all the football fans. It was quicker to just go up to the bar & get our own drinks.

Yelp
Robert does more than average work. The work was more than average. Robert did it. Thanks for the margaritas.

Yelp
All the other bars were over crowded. Seen a few people on the patio and decided to stop in. Nice variety of beers on tap most are local to seattle like Elysian and Mannys. Lots of tvs and plenty of seating. Big bar space as well. Seating indoors and out. Nice spot to have a beer before or after the game.

Yelp
Literally waited 45 minutes to be served FRENCH FRIES. And we were not alone--SO many people complained about the bar's lack of urgency in serving their customers. It's like there's only one cook in the kitchen who's taking 10 minute breaks every 5 minutes...

Yelp
Two of us went in before a baseball game. The bartender was nice and gave us beers and food menus. I ordered the blackened chicken fingers. Almost as soon as our plates were given to us we were then informed "no rush but we're closing and I need to settle you up" no mention prior to this. We gave her our cards while we tried to pound our food and drinks (not what we were looking for) while the chef ran around dropping metal gates and YELLING at people coming through the door that they were closed while he stood maybe two feet behind us. Absolutely unpleasant experience. My food didn't make up for it.

Kyle K.

Yelp
Located in Pioneer Square in downtown Seattle, a good, solid bar; comfortable like your favorite pair of shoes. A fair amount of local beer selections on tap, bottles and cans as well as a full bar. I went here with a group of 6 and it was quiet enough on a weeknight that we weren't shouting out conversations. Digital jukebox is only as good as people's musical tastes. Service was a bit slow even with not many patrons present. There's a patio out front but the weather kept us from sitting out there. I may have to stop by and try it out.

J K.

Yelp
We used to come here whenever someone turned 21. We'd go to FX, then some Mexican karaoke bar, and then we'd come to good ol' Swannie's for shots. I'm sure the bartenders loved us for our business, but they probably also hated us because we were drunk idiots who occasionally puked at the bar. (Ew.)

Yelp
The two stars are only for the friendly service. Understaffed for the crowd, event going on outside in Occidental Park, so should have anticipated that when scheduling. First, I can in for two bottles of water while outside at event. $6.60. I mean, I guess-but WOW! Then we came in to order, party of 5. Beers came quick, diet coke was flat. I told server, she replaced with another flat diet coke. Better but still bad. Can write that off as I am picky about carbonation in soda. There was a sticky "film" all over table and hot sauce bottles, S&P shakers. YUCK I know, we should have went elsewhere at this point. It was my dads birthday and I didn't want to cause a stink. The sandwiches, French Dip, Spicy Chicken, Hawaiian Chicken and Burger were good. Nice fresh, soft rolls, Brioche. Two of the fries were golden brown perfect, the other two-blonde at best and under cooked/crisped. I ordered the Blackened Chicken Fingers-So bitter and impossible to eat. Oh and when we asked for to go container, no cup for au-jus. Hmm, what if I ordered French Dip to go?? I'd say too many better options to waste your time and money here.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I stopped into Swannies for some beers and a bite to eat on our way to a Seahawks game. The service was poor as they had too many people busing tables and not enough servers. Our empties would be taken away but we would never get offered a refill. We each ordered a burger with fries. It took well over an hour to get our food. When it finally did arrive after several complaints that we were going to be late for the game, it was not good. The fries looked like they had been sitting under a heat lamp for much too long and my veggie burger was clearly microwaved. It wasn't crowded when we arrived so it seemed like a good spot, but next time I would rather wait for a table then wait for gross food.

Yelp
Swannie's has captive patrons of the people attending Underground Comedy club below. Unsurprisingly, as with any captive patrons, the food and drinks are not just bad but horrible. There were several people "working" there but none seemed competent. One half-shaved fellow seemed to be only capable of throwing bottles away. Crappy bar food being the only menu, we had the nachos. They gave it a try but put on some pico de gallo that was dripping wet food processor mush. At least buy the kitchen some cheesecloth and squeeze it out. The drinks were the usual lame well drinks that Seattle's Pioneer Square serves from virtually all of the "Sports Bars" in the area. If Pioneer Square is supposed to be hip, it better weed out this kinds of low-quality crap.

Yelp
We walked in, said hello to the bartender and the four if us grabbed a table. We sat for a good 10 minutes while he continued on with his conversation. 2 of the 4 of us work in the industry, so we were a little forgiving. Finally we went to the bar and ordered a round. The cocktails were strong but the beer was totally warm. He even let the taps run for a bit before he put the cup under. Clearly he knew there was a problem with the lines. I went up to order some shots only to have him say "Oh. You must be Canadian." We did the shots and waited for another round, but he was still deep in conversation. Must have been a good one. His lean on the bar was a good one. The place was empty too. Besides the two storytellers at the bar, the four of us were the only people in there.

Yelp
Came here before a Seattle Sounders game, against the Timbers so everrrryyy bar was jam packed. Swannie's was crowded but because it is a pretty big establishment & a little further down the path- it was great. We were able to find a table upstairs on the main level (there is downstairs bar, upstairs and outdoor seating). The drinks weren't horribly priced & the bathroom was clean (key for drinkers before sporting events. It was also right in the heart of a party! The Soundwave band was playing in front, there were glow sticks being handed out- I think I will have to come here more before games! We didn't have food so I cannot comment. But even for how busy this place was, the waitress was still very attentive & quick. Overall good experience.

R G.

Yelp
I can't believe the ratings here. This place serves up some killer grub and the beer list is great! The service has always been good to us and a great spot to hit before a game. Give it a try, it's worth it.

Byron P.

Yelp
Got beers before the Seahawks game. Fair prices.

KC K.

Yelp
Staff is crazy but bathrooms are crazy clean. Well at least this one lady was a little crazy - I think she was wasted...It was an off night when I was here so service was fine and location was easy to find. Probably wouldn't hang here but decent before/after a game.

Roseoliver O.

Yelp
Great place for an evening of food and drinks! Fun place to bring friends and family just to hang out. It is conveniently located in Occidental park.

April P.

Yelp
Loud. Inexpensive compared to the $9 beers at the stadium... However, I don't think they pride themselves on service- we sat for almost 10 minutes, watching the bartenders gab behind the bar before my husband told me to shut up, he would go get us a drink. No problem. We waited on ourselves the rest of the time while enjoying the football games on TV. Not bad if you know what to expect- I just expect a little more when I go out. I serve people all day, so when I go someplace, I actually like to be served.

Ty S.

Yelp
Great place to come before the a Sounders game. Gerald is great! Sit outside and enjoy a beer and festivities.

Jessica A.

Yelp
The bloody marys were decent on game day. We had planned to get food, but they told us that they don't serve lunch or bar food until 1 pm on Sundays, only brunch. Major bummer. After reading the reviews about the brunch, we said no thanks, pounded our bloodies, and moved on to another place.

Charles B.

Yelp
$12 buffet before SEAHAWKS game. Sounds good right? WRONG!!!! Very disappointed. Food was gross. Hash browns burnt. I feel sick now. Should of had my 12 year old make me breakfast. Don't know who the hell they got in the kitchen, Stevie Wonder. If you decide to eat the buffet after reading this. I told you so. On a good note, the wait staff are nice.

Andre G.

Yelp
I wont come back here. Beer was warm. Fire department was in there talking about code violations. Don't go here

ProMixology S.

Yelp
We all went there last night had a good time the drinks awesome , food was good and we went downstairs to the comedy show ..show was great came back upstairs a few more drinks,, the place is cool sports bar,, lots of TVs, pool tables upstairs and like I said the Staff was awesome

Betsy W.

Yelp
There was plenty of service when we stopped in for drinks before the last seahawks game. Based on other reviews I would not come here for anything more than drinks before a game. Honestly though, I think they did a decent job of handling that. Beer was moderately priced and they had a shot lady going around with Jell-O shots and fireball (which I took advantage of). The restrooms are down some creepy dark hallway...so don't forget your rape whistle at home. Cheers and Go Hawks!

Joe L.

Yelp
Pros: server was nice (she asked if our dog wanted water) and relatively quick, large outdoor seating that allows dogs on occidental park, pretty good bloody mary Cons: food took a long time especially for the simple, bland fare that it was (even had to add tapatio to the salsa to give it flavor), multiple small hairs on our plate, poor beer selection

CAROL C.

Yelp
Strong drinks, good atmosphere, great bartender. Sure it's not some high class whatever but it's got great character. If you don't want a bar with a little personality don't go to pioneer square. Love it!

Teen P.

Yelp
One of the workers had so bad BO that I passed out. He ate all of my food before I woke up. He then proceeded to give me the bill which was 10 times more than what I ordered. He threatened to poop on my wife if I didn't pay for it! Pretty great customer service. Better than McDonald's!

Steven T.

Yelp
Bad service. Unclean. I don't recommend this place, there are a lot of better restaurants in the area. I stopped through here just the other day to meet a friend and I asked the bartender where the bathroom was, he rudely told me the bathroom was only for those who've already bought a drink; so I left.

Tom T.

Yelp
The only thing Swannies has going for it is that its right on Pioneer Square ...and that happens to be where the Sounders March to the Match takes place before home games. Its probably the only time I would even walk in there...an overall nasty spot with pretty rude/apathetic staff. The drinks are quite overpriced and I guess they really don't have to care about how they treat people since they aren't concerned about losing business...at least on game days. After paying $16 for a double jack n coke (and tipping well), I asked if one of their 12+ TVs could be changed to a basketball game in progress. I was told no problem by the bartender...and so I politely waited. After about 10 minutes I reminded him nicely, and he said he was getting to it....but seemed busy with a line of customers. So I asked a waitress who blew me off and said she didn't know how to do it. I was then directed to the manager who said he would tell the guy who could get it done. After another 10 minutes I reminded him...again the cold shoulder. I had half a mind to walk behind the bar and grab the VISIBLE remotes and change the channel myself...but they can keep my 20 bucks and 25 minutes instead, and I'll post a nasty review. boooo on this spot...

Daniel S.

Yelp
One of the weirdest scenes of any dive in the P Square area. When it's not gameday, this place is filled with a complex social ordering of people who are in someway related but I'm not street savy enough to crack. Gotta be related to drugs or something. Strange but non-threatening. 2 dollar PBRs in the day time.

Sal P.

Yelp
Stopped in for a drink. Was unexpectedly surprised! The bartender was super chill and told us about the happy hour specials. Got the chips and salsa and a couple ciders. Super laid back, indoor and outdoor seating. Occidental park right outside, perfect for people watching.

Sarah A.

Yelp
Awful. Service is bad. Food is no good. Seems like a good place to hang out before a game but it wasn't. If you come here, order your own drink at the bar and don't expect anything else.

Heidi S.

Yelp
Out of chicken. Out of steak. What?? It's Friday night ?! Service was slow. Back room didn't have lights on until 3 tables were seated.

d c.

Yelp
Terrible, bad area hold on to your personal items as someone might take them. Do not recommend this place at all.

Tom V.

Yelp
Used to frequent this place all the time but will not after this last episode of horrible service. Waited and then waited more to even be noticed by a server. Finally left after the only server for the section served several other tables that arrived after us and still never even came by. Let someone know as we were leaving no attempt whatsoever to recover us at all. WOW really. I understand busy before games but servers need to watch their section all of it.

Eric C.

Yelp
Crap service and attitude. We were there for the Sounders match on 07/28/14. I know it was crowded, but after about 15 min our waitress came over and took our order for a couple of beers and food (nachos & fish tacos). Our beers arrived after another 15 min. That was the last interaction we had with our waitress until we decided to leave approx 40 min later. When we got up to pay for our beers, the waitress ran over and told us our food was almost ready. I explained that I was sorry but the match was starting in 15 min and we have been waiting for close to an hour. Her response was 'oh, sorry'. That was the most we got, the manager was plainly annoyed we were leaving. No apology, no discount, no comp. Just an FU attitude. I think our waitress was inexperienced and overwhelmed due to all the Sounders fans, but it's the managers fault then for not being better staffed.

Lisa R.

Yelp
This review is directed towards the Friday and Saturday night after-hours known as "The Sanctuary" which is held at the same venue as Swannies/Comedy Underground. The only thing that I have to say bad about it is that their bartender does not know what he is doing. I would normally give the guy a break because maybe he is a new bartender and is still learning. I have worked in the industry before so i know how it can be for a newcomer. However this particular bartender has been working the after-hours gig since at least March and he has shown no improvement. Instead all you get is his rude attitude and arrogant demeanor which is a joke since he had to ask me 3 times how to make a Caribou Lou which is a 3 ingredient drink. It requires 151, Malibu Rum, and Pineapple Juice. I could go on and on about what i don't like about this guy, but I don't want to waste anymore of my life thinking about how lame of a bartender he is and clearly always will be. So, my suggestion to the Sanctuary after-hours is to get rid of the bartender. Get someone in there that knows what they're doing and isn't all condescending to the customers. Other than that the music is great and the venue is cool. Bartender is not so great. Just saying.
