Wow! The swedish pancakes are amazing! I got strawberries with whipped cream, so good. If I'm completely honest they are so good on their own I suggest the warm butter and syrup. The meatballs are legit, just like Grandma's.

Stopped in during a drive to the UP in Michigan. We're ordered desserts and coffee since it was cold. Great tasting food and awesome service. Stop in!

Google
Waitresses were friendly. Warm atmosphere. Back ground music was pleasant and at a low level condusive for conversation. Food was excellent.

Google
This is a must for lunch if you are in the UP. We enjoyed some wonderful Swedish dishes and took desert to go. I suggest you grab a muffin up at the register on your way out. All homemade baked products 😋❤️. Very yummy and the staff is very nice , fast and polite👍🏼👍🏼.

Google
Really good food in a cute little place. Stopped for brunch on a Saturday and had just a short wait for a table. Only complaint was the wait for food; must’ve been 50-60 minutes after ordering. There seemed to be plenty of waitstaff, but the kitchen was sending out food very slowly. If you have time to burn, it’s worth a stop!

Google
Classic restaurant in Escanaba offering a unique breakfast with their Swedish pancakes and potatoes. The restaurant is only open til 3 pm, but they offer breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I had the Swedish pancakes as part of the #5 special and it was excellent!

I’ve been visiting the area for my entire life but for some reason haven’t been here until today. Lunch was great! My four year enjoyed the atmosphere, as did I. We will be back soon, that’s for sure! There is something very special about Swedish Pantry!

Google
Wow! I love potato pancakes and was not disappointed. These were the best, let me say again, the best potato pancakes. They were a thick, crispy cake of goodness! The bacon was a thicker cut and crispy, like it should be. My husband got the Ruben sandwich, which I promptly chomped a bite out of. Another fantastic pick. It was grilled to perfection, and the corned beef just melted in your mouth. The sauerkraut complement the sandwich nicely. I wish I had room for dessert. Everything that came out of the kitchen looked good. Family-like atmosphere and great service. I highly recommend for anyone. Be aware that the time zone is Eastern, not Central. We will be going back!

Yelp
BEST SWEDISH PANCAKES WE'VE EVER HAD we first came here the other day, assuming it was more of a bakery/giftshop but were pleasantly surprised to find it was a whole restaurant too! decided to make it our last stop out of town (we were just visiting) and it was a great call. i've always assumed swedish pancakes had to be sweet crepes but these savory slices of heaven were thebomb.com. never had lingonberries, was told they were similar to a tart cranberry and i would say so, very good, tart berry with the savory pancakes was something i didn't know i needed in my life, might have to drive up from madison again just for those! service was excellent and the seating area has pleasant with loads of cool things to look at on the walls.

Yelp
Came by on the way to UP! I love the Swedish-ness of this restaurant/bakery with all their fun decoration. It has some cute souvenirs in the front, where they also sell baked goods, Swedish pancake mix, and syrup. I went there for lunch and we got to try their pancakes, potato pancakes, sandwiches, fried perch, and more! The server was friendly and helped us with the menu, letting us know that some of their Friday specials can be actually ordered any day. The potato pancakes were hefty and great, but as for their Swedish potatoes and fried perch, it was quite subpar and didn't feel very fresh. The green beans side had a canned sour taste. We also tried their giant peanut butter cookie, which was an interesting texture and just okay. It was a fun experience, but the food was average.

Yelp
We stopped here after seeing a billboard on our drive. The restaurant was easy to find, and the man (host) who seated us was friendly and quick with our drinks. The menu had plenty of great options. The ambiance was cozy ans cute! Unfortunately, the service from our assigned server was very poor. After we decided our orders, we waited about 15 minutes with no check-in, and had to flag someone down just to place our order. I had asked another staff member if I could order specifically the 6oz Salmon listed as a dinner/Friday item--she said "yes, you can order anything from the Menu". But when I ordered, our server told me it wasn't available and tried to claim the other person must've meant the Tuna (listed under the same spot as the Salmon). Meanwhile, guests seated after us (with other server) were helped right away, got menu guidance, and were served well before us. The food is excellent, but the inattentive and dismissive service left a bad impression. Sadly, I wouldn't recommend this place based on our experience.

Lids B.

Yelp
Really not much to offer. Few loaves of bread (if stocked after 9 am) and some cookies and Yoooer memorabilia . Not impressed. It's more Of a restaurant setting. Was part of my vacation plan- not for tourists. Local hit- I am sure.

Yelp
I saw the restaurant on YELP and it met my expectations. They offer dishes that are Swedish specific and this was exactly what I wanted to try. Great service and outstanding food. Give this place a try !

Yelp
Drove up from Kenosha, saw the sign on the highway and decided to give it a shot. So glad I did. The interior is pretty kitschy and the tables are straight out of the 80s. The place was pretty busy, but we were able to grab a seat pretty quickly and placed our orders. Do yourself a favor.. instead of ordering what the one star reviewer below ordered, order the Swedish food. You're in a Swedish restaurant.. get the meatballs, get the Swedish fries, get the limpa and the turnips and the lingonberry. Go to absolute town on the Swedish food.. do not get a wrap and Mac n cheese.. I don't know, maybe it's good? I can go to ten other restaurants in Escanaba for that.. I'm here for the Swedish food and all of those awesome looking deserts. You should too, I guarantee you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
This place has an authentic feeling but a variety of foods. I had 2 Swedish meatballs, 2 Swedish pancakes, melted butter and ligonberry jam, and hot syrup. It was delicious! Coffee and service were very good. The pancakes: like a crepe, like a noodle in the center, thin, not cakes, really tasty. They sell the pancake mix in the front of the store. Also, fresh baked goods and a mix of collectibles and re-sale.

M E.

Yelp
This is a note for the new owners. I'm providing this so they can give better service for future guests. The lowdown: We waited an hour to be seated and then waited an hour and twenty minutes for food. This really is unacceptable and a fundamental "no-no" in running a restaurant. The woman (one of the new owners) who worked the register when we paid our bill didn't apologize, and, frankly I found her curt. They should have comped something or brought out cinnamon rolls after the first half hour wait, or, at the very least, apologized for the service. Nothing. The food was fine; the Swedish pancakes were great. Meatballs were like meatloaf. The cuisine was fine. If it was better, the poor service may have been within the tolerance zone for a foodie like myself. Not the case here. Two stars. Could have been a one star but the atmosphere, decor, etc were cute (courtesy, I assume, of the former owners).

Yelp
Eclectic decor that's also for sale! Seat yourself was nice, able to walk right in. Service was fast & friendly and the food was delicious. The Swedish pancake is similar to a crepe, but thicker. It was also nice to have a carafe of coffee on the table so I didn't have to wait for refills. Will definitely stop back the next time I'm in Escanaba!

Yelp
Sat. 10am, pretty full, waited a bit for food but taste made it totally worth it! #1 Swedish Pancake Specialty is the best deal: crepe pancakes w/butter sauce, syrup and lingonberry jam PLuS 2 Swedish meatballs. I enjoyed the 2-egg Swedish Omelette that overflowed with fixin's, oatmeal toast was dense and super filling = whole lotta goodness going on here! Locally owned, adorable interior, astonishingly delicious.

Linda D.

Yelp
Decided to try this place since we were visiting from out of town, the food was delicious. Service was awesome and everyone was very friendly. It was super cute and clean on the inside. Had breakfast and bought some other goodies on the way out.
google avatar

Yelp
I am so glad I went here!! Service was amazing food was even better and place is adorable!! Pancakes were definitely my favorite! The meatballs were a close second. And then the sauce that comes with it (can't remember right now) is yummy, it's just like cranberry sauce but a little sweeter. Soups were good also!
google avatar

Maude M.

Yelp
The food would have been better if it came out of the kitchen a little quicker & warmer that's for sure. The other customers who came in after us, got served their food before us. It was so disheartening on how the owner looked down on us, I think it was because we looked different than her, she treated us like we were some kind of third class citizen as we were paying.
google avatar

Yelp
What a gem!! We came to Escanaba on our boat and rode bikes to have breakfast here. WOW! I had the Swedish pancakes with meatballs (absolutely delish) and my husband had the potato pancakes, which were cut to order and absolutely fantastic. We can't wait to come back!!

Sara L.

Yelp
Stopped in today for a taco salad, I was craving!!! great service and the taco salad was better than I thought!! a must stop!!

Yelp
I have Swedish grandparents, so I'm biased, but this is one of my favorite spots. If you enjoy Swedish food like rutabaga, Swedish pancakes, meatballs, limpa, cardamon bread pudding and more, this is for you. There's a full menu of non Swedish dinners and sandwiches. My husband loves the perch dinner. The staff is particularly friendly and accommodating.
google avatar

Arielle G.

Yelp
It had so much potential and charm. We had their "Best Pan Fried Perch in Town" where the waitress told us it was frozen. We also had a wrap, a salad, and the kids Mac and Cheese that came with a hotdog...it was all just terrible. I mean everything from the soups they are supposed to be famous for to the unsweetened ice tea. Pretty terrible all around
google avatar

Samantha P.

Yelp
Stopped here for lunch on a weekday afternoon. Service was quick and food was delicious. If you're not "get a meal" hungry, you MUST stop for dessert! We had the raspberry pie and it was like nothing I had ever had before. Light up your eyes delicious!

Go B.

Yelp
What a great place. I got the sampler dinner. The homemade soup (twice baked potato) was fantastic. The homemade dessert (cardamom bread pudding) was tasty. The potato dumpling on the Swedish sampler platter was mediocre, everything else was good. Next time I'll try another dinner or just a bowl of the homemade soup Our server was nice and attentive. The decor was interesting. I'll definitely go back the next time I'm in Escanaba.

Yelp
Great service. Very good food. Fun atmosphere. We really enjoyed our visit here. Didn't plan on going but saw a billboard for the Swedish Pantry and thought we'd give it a go. Glad we did!

Yelp
I visited Swedish Pantry for breakfast on a Saturday. The dining room was full, but not crowded. My first feeling was one of surprise at all of the random items for sale at the restaurant. It very much feels like you're eating inside a gift shop. The service was warm and friendly. I tried the potato pancakes. They were huge - three giant pancakes that I could not finish alone. Unfortunately they were really dense, although the flavor was good. My friend had Swedish pancakes with meatballs. He enjoyed the meatballs the most, but his pancakes were also very good.
google avatar

Rebecca G.

Yelp
This is one of the places I always go when I visit home. It is just one of the lunch places that is always busy and everyone knows about because it has been around forever and it is delicious. My cousin and I met here and at first I was planning to get a soup and salad combo, but I saw that they had a perch dinner. I don't get lake perch in Florida so sign me up! The fish was very good. It came with fries and I chose rutabaga mash because I like rutabaga. I have to admit, my roasted rutabaga is better (sorry.) My cousin went with the meatloaf and it looked really good too. The best thing about the Swedish Pantry is that they have baked goods you can buy on the way out. Since I was going to be flying back to Florida the next day I just got a giant molasses cookie. Soooo goood! Until next time!

M S.

Yelp
Excellent food service and atmosphere. We loved the place. My bf had the lake perch and I had the potatoe pancakes. Our waitress was excellent and they have a cute bakery attached.
google avatar

Jeremy P.

Yelp
The food was amazing and big portions! Service was decent only 3 servers but they feed off of each other! Love the Decor they sell a lot of tourist type items but everything is amazing!

Pamela G.

Yelp
I'm always leery of restaurants that claim to have the best food in town but Swedish Pantry lived up to all expectations. I got the Swedish pancakes and meatballs. I'm not a meatball person but it's such an iconic Swedish food that I had to try it. So good! Both the pancakes and meatballs were perfectly made - not too much salt in the meatballs, not too much sugar in the pancakes. My husband got the potato pancakes and they were fabulous!

Yelp
Great food, friendly service, wonderful, quirky atmosphere. Stop in! Authentic Swedish Breakfast
google avatar

Gemma H.

Yelp
What a gem! Never would have thought we'd find an authentic Swedish spot like this in Escanaba and it was a fun surprise to come across it. We ended up having a sit down breakfast, not sure how that happened when we'd only planned to grab a couple muffins and hit the road, but definitely glad it worked out this way! We did the authentic Swedish breakfast with Swedish pancakes and meatballs. Really how do you even get Swedish food without meatballs?! And we had eggs and toast (Swedish rye, which was super yummy!). The pancakes were served with butter, lingonberry jam, and maple syrup and holy cow were they delicious. So different than an American pancake, almost crepe-like in taste and texture, but delightful when topped with the lingonberries and butter. Meatballs were tasty, didn't sit too heavy in the stomach and weren't overly sauced in the gravy. Really surprising and good. The little bakery had a variety of cookies, muffins, and a ton of imported goods from Sweden. We took a couple giant cookies to go--chocolate chip and surgery molasses ginger. Both had a cake-like texture and were great for snacking later.

Yelp
Was traveling thru the area and saw this place on Yelp pop up and decided it was my best local option. So I gave it a try! It's a unique place all around. The location is in an old building downtown and has all sorts of interesting nicknak type items inside. It's endearing. The service was great and friendly. They also provided two plates for a dish we wanted to share. Which to me went above and beyond. Everything came out in a timely manner. My food was delicious. I had the Swedish pancakes with meatballs. On my way out a bought one of their mugs and pancake mix. It's a great experience and I highly recommend it to anyone that finds themselves in the area.
google avatar

Mrs-Lawanda H.

Yelp
Soon as you walk in the door you feel welcome! The baked goods are amazing! I've never had meatballs for breakfast, but they were so good. Seasoned very well and the gravy was good too. The Swedish pancakes ( crepes) were awesome. Very light and fluffy. Never had a lingenberry before but it was a pleasant surprise. Potato sausage was very good too! Hubby had the Swedish fries with poached eggs and sausage. This is a must visit when in Escanaba!!!! So happy we spent our 10th anniversary here.
google avatar

Steve D.

Yelp
Oh my, what a wonderful surprise out in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan! Found this restaurant on Yelp and thought it sounded good. It was every bit as good as the reviews and photos! We both had the Swedish pancakes with meatballs which had been highly recommended and they lived up to their reputation! The food was OUTSTANDING and the service was excellent! Got great coffee right away and the food was hot and tremendous flavor! Thoroughly enjoyed the interesting combination of pancakes, lingonberries, syrup and the Swedish meatballs on the side. Wonderful place and HIGHLY recommend this gem! Loved it!

Bobby W.

Yelp
Food was absolutely great. Service was outstanding and the ambiance was friendly and inviting. This place is a must try. I guarantee you won't regret it
google avatar

Yelp
Potatoes pancakes with sour cream and apple sauce? I was skeptical but willing to try. It totally works. That being said, three pancakes is a lot so bring your appetite or be willing to share... The Swedish pancakes with ____berries... It's an alleged fan favorite. Personally, I thought they were a tad over hyped. They are basically crepes minus the filling and they only give a little teaser of the ___berry jam. All kinds of randomness for sale from clocks to Christmas ornaments. Service was good.. Give em a try.
google avatar

Jim J.

Yelp
Outstanding potato pancakes! Very friendly service. I highly recommend stopping by when in Escanaba!!!

Mike N.

Yelp
Breakfast Swedish pancakes with all the fixins also a bakery! Funky decor we liked it!
google avatar

Deb F.

Yelp
The downside of this restaurant is that I live too far away and don't know when/if I'll be back through this town. But if I am, I'll remember that they serve until 7 P.M. and breakfast all day. Now on to the food we ate. My husband is a "coffee snob" and said it was ok. I don't drink coffee so can't comment. Our Swedish pancakes, meatballs and potato sausage were to die for. The Swedish pancakes came with their own little pitcher of melted butter and thick, warm syrup. Enough so that we only used 1/4 of our individual little pitchers. The "big as your head" cinnamon roll was warm and scrumptious. My husband gasped when they set it down on the table. We left with 3/4 of our cinnamon roll, and half of my pancake and meatballs. Another meal in waiting.

Dawn W.

Yelp
Looking at the reviews the average is four stars. They are wrong. It's definitely five stars across the board!! Food! Service! Ambiance! Unique knickknacks to check out while you wait. The potato pancakes are made from scratch-peeled and shredded when ordered and amazing. Swedish meatballs and pancakes......drool worthy! Must go here.
google avatar

Deborah C.

Yelp
What a fun spot! Lots to look at like the cutest collection of clocks and Swedish art. But come for the Swedish pancakes! We shared this beauty of a pancake covered with warm spiced peaches and immediately wished we had ordered two! A Swedish pancake is a little more custard like than the traditional American pancakes at other places. It's a wonderful taste treat. They offer it in a variety of ways from plain with butter and syrup to covered with lingonberry. We opted for the peaches and were delighted! We also tried their potato pancakes and received three large golden brown pancakes served with applesauce and sour cream. Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. We'd never had them in any other place so have no basis for comparison so give them a try. The seemed to need salt and the pitcher of liquid butter served on every table helped. Yes a pitcher of warm melted butter on every table. We heard people talking about how good their homemade soup is so we tried their split pea soup. I don't like split pea soup but this was awesome. Smoky goodness with chunks of ham potatoes carrots and onions. I'm a convert. Try the soup! Who cares if you're also eating pancakes?! Both are amazing!
google avatar

Juliana M.

Yelp
This is undeniably a unique place to have breakfast. The food is hearty and like homemade.the staff are consistently friendly and thoughtful. We managed to sit down right as a group of ten sat and our waitress made sure to get our order for two in before the ten top so we wouldn't have to wait a long time. We had an enormous cinnamon roll which we shared a 1/4 of then took the rest home. The Swedish pancakes and sausage are hearty and will keep you going all day. We hiked it off in a local park. We wanted to each try something different so ended up taking home so much food because portions are enough for a football player. Delicious food though.

Yelp
This is a great breakfast on the way to Marquette. The decor is fun and besides a great swedish breakfast was even better. The staff and owner were pleasant. And it also was a Swedish bakery. Great place worth the stop

Abby A.

Yelp
We are driving back home and decides to stop and get breakfast before heading out and the second I saw a Swedish pancake/ meatball combo for breakfast I knew the meatball gods were looking down on me today :') the food was FANTASTIC! Service was fine it's a busy small town restaurant so speedy service wasn't expected. Staff was very kind and know how to make a mean meatball!
google avatar

Yelp
The Swedish Pantry is not as great as it sounds. This place needs a good cleaning and needs to take its garage sale items out of the front entry as it was crowded. I thought to myself," is this a rummage sale or a restaurant?" Waitress was really friendly. Menu was small for breakfast. I ordered simple breakfast of 1 egg, 1 Swedish pancake and a slice of bacon. The Swedish pancake was so-so with rubbery texture and a sad little potion of seedy lingonberry. The IKEA lingonberry are much better. That plate was 9.99. Not worth the money spent. My hubby got 2 eggs over easy, sausage and Swedish rye toast. The sausages were plump and large and tasted great. The toast was the star of the plate. Waitress said they bake fresh every other day. Would I come back? Probably not..... not for the price or amt of food.
google avatar

Yelp
A Swedish pancake is like a crepe and a pancake had a beautiful, beautiful, delicious child. I ordered the pancakes with strawberries and fresh whipped cream and they were absolutely delectable. The place is cute, the staff is friendly, and the price was great. I love the quirky little shop in the front of the store! This will definitely be my go-to breakfast place in Escanaba!

Yelp
The little flag down from the door says Please Support Us ... we entered and were greeted with "we close in 15 minutes" ... so are you open? Are we welcome? Do you want support? Meanwhile folks entered behind us stayed so we did. Decided quickly & ordered salad and "swedish pancakes" figuring that would not complicate the kitchen. My so-called pancakes were raw I was afraid to eat them ... had to send back ... not even close to being cooked! So the hurried kitchen caused its' own delay. *I waved & waved to get the server's attention (to the amusement of several who noticed) but she was racing around cleaning tables, never looked up/checked on us. I nearly got up and walked over -that seemed aggressive. **Meanwhile her colleague was saying loud enough for customers to hear only X amount til we close only X tables to go. !!! Support us what a joke. As for the food, once I got the cooked "Swedish pancakes" I will declare them to be ok crepes. I have both cooked & eatened these at Swedish cafes many times. These are crepes. I did manage to douse with the *tablespoon* of ligonberries ... a real waste of $$. Meanwhile my husband's salad with crab (we hoped doesn't say imitation on the menu) and tiny shrimp was just mediocre and served on a bed of only iceberg lettuce. When he asked what the dressing was he was told "it goes with that salad. !!" Our destination for lunch closed at 2 perhaps this spot should too. The servers are running around cleaning and not attending to those eating. Have been here before but definitely wont be back. Travelling on past glory and local fondness I'd say IMO.

Yelp
Very good breakfast and lunch restaurant with excellent limpa bread. Service is fast and attentive. Restaurant is popular so be prepared to wait during the morning rush.

Barkley L.

Yelp
My husband & I ordered their #1 Seller, Famous Swedish Pancakes served with Meatballs & Imported Swedish Lingonberries, coffee & their award winning (multiple times) Oatmeal-white chocolate-cranberry cookie. Though traveling through MI & not of Swedish heritage, I recommend Swedish Pantry as a MUST STOP for a delicious authentic meal - or treat! Side note: The owner for 40+ years, Phyllis, is a gracious kind hostess!
google avatar

Autumn R.

Yelp
Definitely the best food in town! Quirky and cute little shop with cozy home atmosphere. Very sweet and welcoming staff. The Swedish pancakes were to die for and the Swedish fries hit the spot.
google avatar

Yelp
Very delicious and unique entrées to choose from and some of the best bakery you'll ever have! Wonderful throwback to traditional European cooking. Will definitely come back
google avatar

Yelp
The kids and I all had the Swedish pancakes. They were delicious and perfectly cooked. My kids have never eaten so fast as they did here.

Yelp
We had a really rough night attempting to camp in the wind in Gladstone so we were in less than a good mood when we stopped by for breakfast here. Fortunately the food was so amazing it helped turn our day around! The french toast was so good my husband ate what he had cold, leftover, the next day. I loved the Swedish pancakes. The service was very slow/hit and miss, but the food is worth waiting for. This also seems to be a very local joint, where everyone knows everyone else which is kind of fun to sit and observe. All in all, this place is great!
