I cannot sty enough about this place. When I walked in I was immediately greeted by the owner. She looks familiar but I was not sure if it was the same place that had moved from a little further down and then to my surprise I realize it was when she told me. So those of you who are looking for Sweet Basil they just moved up the block a little bit please stop in and get your regular or try something different. The food is absolutely delicious. I had my regular drunken noodle and my girlfriend had Mongolian chicken. I was so upset that I did not order a second order for the next day because my taste buds were crying out can we have some more LOL. The food was perfectly seasoning as usual not too hot not too spicy not to anything. It was absolutely delicious. It was served piping hot from the kitchen. The atmosphere is very quaint and comfy. It's not a very large space I wish it was because I was thinking about having a party there for my retirement perhaps I can speak with the manager and we can work out something. Nonetheless if you want the taste of THAI served with friendly smile, great customer service, and lots of friendly staff members this is definitely the place. I will return again and again and again and again. I'm so glad I found you guys.

Visiting from Australia & found this restaurant, we came for lunch, ordered lunch special & they were super delicious. The next day we came back again for dinner, we ate Basil Beef & traditional Prawn fried rice, which were also super delicious. The price is pretty good & friendly customer service. Highly recommended.

Food is amazing. Service is always top notch. I had my mom's birthday dinner, my niece's sweet sixteen birthday dinner and my friend twenty eight birthday dinner at Sweet Basil. With there help we transformed the restaurant. It was just amazing.

Should have remained closed and not re-open. Not as good as previous place. Honestly, the worst thai food I had in a long time. We ordered, pad thai, pad see ew, papaya salad, and scallion pancake to go. Absolutely, zero flavor, all the food was bland / flat, the meat (chicken) was rubber in both main dishes. Papaya salad was a soup. Furthermore the pad thai and the pad see ew noodles had a weird smell / taste which made us wonder about the freshness of the ingredients.....Plenty more thai food restaurant in the area. Avoid this one!

Food is pretty good! The spring rolls and sauce are always disappointing, but overall a reliable Thai spot. Nice service, too!

This is my go-to place in the neighborhood for when I'm craving classic Thai food. It's delicious and affordable, and the staff is kind and generous. You don't have to like this place, but some of the low reviews seem pretty ignorant, if not racist, so maybe take those with a grain of salt.

Tasteless Food! I was hoping their return to Franklin Avenue would have been a success. Whoever used to be the chef at their old location is not there. I ordered chicken panang curry. It was the whitest, unseasoned, rubberish-tasting chicken. The curry was thin as water. What a disappointment! I try my best to support neighborhood businesses. My recommendation is Misc Brooklyn on Franklin if you want food with flavor. I should have stuck to what I know.

Update** Sometimes you need to give a place a break and try again - had a dish all greens ..I am not vegetarian or vegan but there are days you would think so.. Anyway ,the dish was sautéd asparagus, bamboo shoots, Chinese broccoli, green beans...not a bunch of raw onions or garlic (yay) but it was delicious, coupled with a small side of Jazmine rice. Thank You!

new location , lovely small location , nice service, ordered tom yum soup , fried calamari and drunken noodles . food taste are not same old flavors. havent seen ever straight calamari, too much crispy . otherwise okay to taste. good presentation and service are friendly . ambience is perfect for winter times

This is my 2nd time ordering from Sweet Basil since they do deliver in the neighborhood but unfortunately the food was lousy both times! Never again! Food was disgusting both times! What a waste of money! Highly disappointed!!

EEEEEk. Should've done better research before ordering Pad Thai from this place. My roommate and I were craving Pad Thai, but what we received was sorely disappointing. The Pad Thai basically tasted like nothing, but had a random kick of spice. It tasted like the noodles had been soaking in water for hours and then given a little bit of powdered spice. It had no traces of the classic peanutty, tangy sauce you associate with Pad Thai. The only way it was tolerable was after we dumped a bunch of our own pasta sauce onto the noodles. The tofu also wasn't tofu.....it was beancurd?? It was such a strange experience. We also ordered some chicken wings with sweet and sour sauce. The wings were good. Giving it an extra star for the chicken wings. I honestly don't know why how they're getting Pad Thai wrong, especially since it's a staple dish of Thai cuisine.

The food at this restaurant is very tasty the prices are very reasonable! The delivery is fast and the staff is very friendly!!! I found the menu in my building and never regretted ordering the food !!!

Food always hit if you want great Thai food please go get your bottle of wine and eat at Sweet Basil.

This place is awesome. The food are tasty. We ordered appetizer and it was delicious. They asked us how spicy we want our food. Most of the dishes are huge. Customer services are nice. I glad we found it and enjoy the brunch there. :) I really like the mango shrimp. Its delicious and look really good.

So sad they've closed this place, it was a small intimate restaurant. The service/food never disappointed, can't say I've ever had a bad experience.

I tried Sweet Basil twice and the first time I really enjoyed it. The second time around the food was on the greasy side. If we order again, I'm sticking to the vegan mango chicken since that was a safer option.

Cozy, unassuming restaurant. I enjoyed the calamari, Thai iced tea, my main dish AND my friend's salmon entree :) The food here was really good. REALLY good. It's a small place, but they somehow manage to get people in and out in a decent amount of time. Will definitely go back.

I literally had the photos from my food at Sweet Basil since August so this review is more than overdue. I had a taste for something different that day and for some reason trying Thai just came to mind. My taste buds said sweet yet spicy is what we want so I Yelped best Thai restaurants in Brooklyn and Sweet Basil was definitely on the list. The name caught my attention along with the good reviews of course. So, after viewing the broad menu they had posted I decided to get the mango chicken with Thai sticky rice and a spring roll. Hubby got the Lemongrass Chicken with jasmine rice. The Mango chicken was very good prepared fresh with sweet bell peppers, mango slices and spicy glazed chicken with a hint of fresh basil. Hubby's food was more sweet than spicy and had a lot of fresh basil taste. My first time trying Thai was good and I see myself going here again when in the area. I will try the Mongolian Chicken next time. Definitely a good spot for celebrations and small gatherings too.

If you're a vegan looking to eat at a Thai place without having to substitute this for that, come here. Their vegan menu is top notch. I ordered the Mango Soy Protein plate with brown rice and an ice cold Singha beer 10/10

No frills casual Thai dining. Their seating area is rather small but they were busy constantly with delivery so it seems that they do a lot of delivery business. We had Pad See Ew with beef and also tried their version of soy sauce noodles. We loved their pad see ew with beef. Of all the Thai places in the neighborhood, this one was our favorite with pad see ew. The beef was perfect, tender and not too dry. It was the perfect amount of noodles, sauce and Chinese broccoli. The soy sauce noodles had a lot of sauce. They warned us about it but we decided to get it anyway. It is almost like a soup noodle, not as flavorful as the Pad see ew but still very good. We also tried their fried cheese cake as that is not something I usually see on Thai menus. We were not impressed by that but will definitely come back for the pad see ew.

Living in the border of prospect and crown heights, there aren't too many Thai options nearby, but this restaurant is one of the better options in the area. I've only ever picked up food, but never dined in. The spot has modern decor and seems comfortable enough to seat ~40 guests. The staff is friendly when I pick up food, and I usually wait 20 mins for them to prepare the food. Each entree, noodle, curry dish comes out to ~$12 each for dinner. I am the least pickiest diner, I'll seriously eat anything. But the flavors of certain dishes tend to be inconsistent, and once, over salted (I assume based on who the chef was that day). The curry is always a hit, with an abundance amount of peppers in it each time. It does fall on the mild and sweet side even though they state it's "medium spicy". Another favorite of mine is the drunken noodles. Not too oily, but lacks vegetables in the dish. Overall, I recommend this spot as being better than others within this neighborhood. Hopefully the chefs improve on unifying the taste for dishes and making them consistent! :)

I ordered 3 times from this place and the food is absolutely Yummy!! The Pad Thai noodles, Steamed Shrimp Dumplings and the Vegetable Spring Rolls....Fantastic!!! Plus, great and fast delivery!! Fresh food, great flavor and fairly priced!!

Food was delicious, delivery was great - fast and accurate! I ordered the Tom Yum Soup, drunken noodles and the veggie spring rolls. Everything was delicious! And I really like how you can specify your spice level - I like spicy food and so many places err on the side of being less spicy. Also i LOVE that you can order with the DeliverZero boxes that are returnable - and they didn't put those unnecessary plastic utensils in that everyone has a billion of! So nice that this restaurant is conscientious of their environmental impact. Will 100% be my go-to Thai delivery from now on.

Food is good - it's fallen off a bit, since NYC is opening up. Just don't order from them via a delivery app.

Order from them using Uber Eats after a craving for fried chicken and fried rice. I ordered the chicken wings and the pineapple fried rice and both were really good!!

The Pad Thai and the Fried Rice are fantastic. We've been ordering from here for years. Sometimes red or green curry, too. All are excellent.

Average Thai restaurant but food quality is top notch just small and service is pretty alright. Great for late nights but TIP come in groups of 2-3 or else you'll have to wait for a table.

The best Thai food I ever had in my life!!! My husband loves the soup from there, he had it few years ago, and never can find the same taste in other Thai Restaurant. So that's why we went there yesterday!

Not too busy for a weekend. It's a relatively small place, good for small groups. The service is quick, relatively inexpensive, and take credit cards or cash. Here is what we ordered: Lemongrass Pork Chop: thinly sliced grilled pork chops with lemongrass, garlic and lime juice. Served with rice. This didn't cut it for me, turned out a bit bland and could've used more spices to bring out more flavors to the dish. Pad Thai: slightly overcooked noodles, overly sweet and supposedly spicy but wasn't spicy AT ALL Pad See Ew: soft and soggy noodles, kept breaking off when I was picking it with chopsticks. Also tasted bland, can only taste the salt more than any other Thai spices. Really a disappointment. I'm just not a fan of this place so won't be coming back here again.

The green curry was delicious, a little too much green pepper for me but great flavor and curry. The rice was a little dry but did soften up with the curry on top. Would order again!

It was the day after Thanksgiving so the restaurant was practically empty which means service should've been superb. It was ok at best. They never offered water and when I asked the waiter brought one glass although there were two of us at the table. Food was good so was the wine and prices were affordable. We ate, he cleared the table, came back with the check and walked away. We weren't asked if we were interested in dessert, which we were, so we signaled for him to return. The fried tempura cheese cake was interesting. A side note: Very modern space with nice furnishings and I especially liked the benches along the wall with the throw cushions. Extremely clean bathroom

Amazing lunch. For under $10 you can have any noodle dish or curry or a several of their special stir-fry with beef, chicken or shrimp. My ginger shrimp was yummy with julienned peppers, onions, bamboo shoots, scallion, tomatoes and basil. Too many peppers for me, but everything else was wonderful. Cap that off in a bento box with a side green salad and a spring roll... what a good lunch.

Order for delivery! Called to place the order as there is no online/app ordering available (boo!). At the end of the order the total was ~$12 off from what I calculated based on the online menu. I asked the person on the phone why there was such a price difference and she stated she didn't know. I finally asked if the prices had been increased. She stated "Oh yes! We haven't changed it on the website though". Lame! This left a bad taste in my mouth, like I was getting scammed...(over reacting?) My favorite type of curry is panang and I like to add pineapple to it. They charged me $2.00 extra and did not inform me of the price differnce. Mind you, I am not cheap but I like to be informed. Plus $2 for some pineapple!? C'mon now. I also ordered the Thai Spring salad (originally $5, now $6). The size of the salad was inapproporiate at the older price and ridculous at the current price. Perhaps the size of the salad is larger in the restaurant? The peanut dressing is delectable though :) There are 2 redeeming things: --Delivery was very swift --The food is good While at work, I will continue to order food from here.

This place could easily be 5 stars, but they sell themselves short with their food quality inconsistencies. I picked up my order and mango and sticky rice is horrible - again. The rice is not sweet, the mangos are always dry as if they've been sitting out all day. I asked for no raisins. They comply but also remove the red sugar pebbles. Why? The mangos this place uses are really of bad quality. They need to be soaked in water just to be edible. If this was a one time occurrence - I'd let it slide but this time - No. Raise the quality game up on your mango sticky rice dish. Smh.

Ate here August 1, 2019, the waiter charged my card 3 TIMES!! The service sucked, the fried shrimp was soft and warm with no taste.

Food is delicious and love the atmosphere it's usually crowded so it's best to go on a Monday where traffic is light and just a heads up they are closed on Tuesday's

Enjoyed my experience at Sweet Basil! Thought the service was really good - never had an empty water glass and my Pad Thai was super good and a huge portion! It was also just the right amount of spicy! I've passed this place a lot and am glad I finally popped in! They do have a card minimum of $15 - I think my Pad Thai was $9, which is a great deal. My friends had the green curry and the steamed calamari entree; seemed to enjoy both. Will be back!

Just moved the the neighborhood and have been trying out different places to get a feel ofwhat Crown Heights is all about. Went here last night on a date and although the date was a great time, there were a few disappointments with this place. Let's get the Pros out of the way first...as we all love to write and read happy yelp reviews. Pros: I ordered the Pad thai with Shrimp (requested it to be mildly spicy and it came out perfectly spiced) and my date ordered some shrimp dish with pineapple. Both dishes were good - I enjoyed the way it was plated. I got a little purple flower as a garnish; how cute. Cons: After reading some of the reviews on the service and its hit or miss pattern, I would definitely say that I came on a missed night. It took a while to order and it took even longer to pay our bill. None of the servers were smiling - and with absolutely NO music playing in the background, it was definitely feeling awkward for a bit there. Everyone in the restaurant (customers) were trying their best to keep it down , even the large group in the corner. I thought the place looked like a take-out joint. if it wasn't for those pretty walls, it would look exactly like that. I would probably just do take-out. Nothing more, nothing less.

This restaurant was cool. Still not one of my favorite Thai places in NYC, would definitely rather go to SEA but my date took me there. He had their mango chicken and I had mango shrimp. The food was delicious. I wish the peppers were cooked for a bit longer though. Wayyy to crunchy, like they just cut it up and tossed it in the finished dish. I would go there again, just for this. The vegetable dumplings were ok too. Nothing to rave about though.

I had the spicy basil fried rice lunch special delivered yesterday and it's some of the best Thai I've had in New York. I got it extra spicy and you can definitely taste the spice.

What a great place, fantastic delicious tasting food, great prices....save room for dessert, I suggest the tempura ice cream. This place is a great place for a date or gathering, it is beautifully decorated also. They also have delivery as it gets crowded in the evenings so you might have a wait for a table. My friend ordered the mango chicken off of the lunch menu wow!!! I can't wait to go back and try other dishes.

Great Thai food in a comfy unassuming place, in fact probably the best Thai this side of Queens Blvd. Portions are just right, not too big, but quality is high. Super affordable lunch special, with nice vegan options like mock duck and soy. Overall its one of those small local places you find yourself going back to time and time again. Strongly recommend the Wok Basil dish.

The food is delicious and the Thai Ice Tea is the cherry on top I go here for the awesome lunch special and get the Mango Chicken. Service was very fast I didn't wait long for my food either

Came here for lunch with coworkers. 6 of us were quickly seated, orders taken & served all within 15 min. Pretty impressed with the attentive staff & efficient service. I had pad thai with veg & tofu (bean curd), my coworkers had mixed vegetables & sweet & sour shrimp. The spring roll that came with bento box was hot and standard. Pad Thai was sweet and over seasoned; I had to cut it with my coworker's rice to even out the saltiness. The bean curd tofu tasted not too good, perhaps old? The only fresh thing was the salad & ginger dressing. My work place loves this restaurant and we ordered a lot from them. We'll probably be returning here often.

The man brought home takeout from here yesterday 1/3/17 we had the mangolian Beef,the meat was tender the food smell good,I just found it to be a little to sweet after awhile of eating it,I had to just eat the meat out of it and leave the rest...however I would ty to eat something else from here....next time I will dine in the restaurant

Some friends took my wife and I there for dinner. I wasn't familiar with Thai cuisine but I was willing to try. The restaurant is small and pleasantly designed. But it was about the food. Food glorious food, it was so good. The service was great. I highly recommend this restaurant.

We are regulars of this local Thai restaurant on Franklin. We have been going here for at least 2 years now and always recommend it to our friends or guests staying in the area! The food is wonderful. We always enjoy their crab rangoons and without a doubt, they serve the BEST tom yum soup! My boyfriend gets the tofu/veggie and I the chicken and it never fails to hit the spot in both warm and the current freezing weather! We have never been disappointed in their main dishes either. Pad Thai is classic, their drunken noodles delicious, garlic noodles and pineapple fried rice are always good and their plating is beautiful. Also, their lunch specials are especially budget friendly, but they a quite affordable in general. The only reason they lose a star is that their service is hit and miss. We love this place, but it is true that we have been here when it takes 15 minutes to be approached by a server. It is a small place, not good for large groups, but even with just 3-4 customers in the place, the service can be slow and without a smile... the quality food and menu prices makes up for a less than friendly wait staff. Highly recommend!
