Sweet Box Bakery - Review - Washington Square West - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"Don't let another birthday party, anniversary, or Wednesday go by without picking up a treat from Sweet Box. The Washington Square West bakery specializes in fluffy cupcakes, banana pudding, and their signature—The Jawn. It's like a cake and cookie dough had a rainbow-sprinkled baby and covered it in rich buttercream frosting. They have an equally decadent Oreo version (The Dirty Jawn), which is the perfect pick-me-up after a walk in Washington Square Park." - Alison B. Kessler

We were throwing a birthday party and I emailed Sweet Box for a quote on cupcakes. Gretchen was quick to answer and took the time to explain the process. She asked what design I wanted and the color. I explained I was looking at the Mother's Day Flower Design that I saw on their Instagram and wanted it to be the colors of a sunflower. Gretchen shared that she could do that, but she could also do a sunflower on each cupcake. This was great as it would mean each cupcake would have the birthday girls favorite flower. I ordered 18 chocolate and 18 vanilla with the flower on top. They were so pretty and both were moist. The chocolate had a rich deep chocolate flavor. Would I do this again?... Absolutely. It was 100% worth it. A big thank you to Gretchen for the email "chats" as I worked my way through what was needed.

TLDR: This place is amazing and everything is delicious - GO! OMG this place is so good. Did I die? Am I in heaven? Every single thing I’ve tried has been delicious. I’m not even done trying my items but I needed to leave this review. The folks working were very nice and gave me recommendations and service was fast. I tried the chocolate chip cookies (which are as big as my face), the lemon bars, the raspberry crumb bar, and the birthday cake cupcake. I was worried the cupcake would be too sweet with all the frosting but the balance was perfect! The cake was moist and well-flavored and the frosting wasn’t sugary. The chocchip cookie was one of the best I’ve ever had and the bars drove me to this review. Love supporting small businesses. If I lived in the area I would definitely call them for any catering or custom cakes I need! Also just for a pick me up 😊

Google
Absolutely loved their cupcakes! I had a last minute birthday party for my sister-in-law and they were able to provide a dozen strawberry shortcake cupcakes and everyone loved it!

Hammy’s Dog Mom

Google
I question the authenticity of the other reviews. Bought a strawberry shortcake cupcake and a banana pudding and I don’t know what was worse. The strawberry cupcake was the driest cupcake I ever had, I actually thought I was going to choke on it. The banana pudding was awful, it tasted like boxed pudding with 1 banana slice in it and no whipped cream on top. I get better banana pudding at Wegman’s. I would definitely not recommend this bakery.

Prompt, friendly service. Everything looks delicious. The cookie dough brownie is luscious, creamy, and satisfying but somehow not overly sweet

Google
Picked up vegan cupcakes for a dinner party. They had only 2 varieties that day: chocolate sprinkle and chocolate hazelnut. They were deliciously moist and filling. Our guests couldn't believe they were vegan. Lots of decadent cupcake choices, plus a few varieties of cookies and brownies. They did advise that they're not primarily a vegan bakery.

Lots of goodies for the kids! Visited Philly back in October near Halloween and the store was all decked out with spooky cupcakes and goodies. The cookie bars were delicious and I fell in loveeee with the cupcakes as well. I’m usually not much of a sweets person but these cupcakes were delicious and very cute with their decor!!

Google
Got my birthday cake from Sweet Box and it was delicious and pretty! Ordering was easy and the price was fair, I will definitely be back to try some cupcakes.

Yelp
I've been frequently visiting Sweet Box Cupcakes for more than 10 years, since their food truck days. All of their cupcakes are amazing and the frosting definitely sets them apart from other bakeries. It is a small establishment but the bakery is filled with delicious goodies. The staff are friendly and their service is quick. I would highly recommend any of their cupcakes, classic banana pudding, funfetti cookies, lemon bar, and more!

Yelp
Found this place doing a yelp search as I was in Philly for an overnight and wanted to scope out a new bakery to try. After checking out their website and menu, I decided to give them a try. I'm not familiar with navigating through Philly, but it does see located in a busy part of center city. Luckily, I was able to grab a close spot :). The shop is small and definitely gives boutique flair. I purchased the strawberry pop tart cupcake and a chocolate chip cookie. Both were great! The cupcake was super sweet, the cookie was soft and had great flavor. Would visit again!

Yelp
Oh so chocolate. Oh so expensive, but oh so chocolate. The local Korean establishment did not offer dessert, and my cousin and I were both visiting the city so dessert became a requirement (okay, not necessarily, but you know) and Sweet Box was nearby. Since she treated me to dinner I treated her to dessert, which means I wasn't too focused on the prices of everything. I will say that two cupcakes, a brownie, and a banana pudding added up to nearly $30, so you have your advance warning. Relatively less star-punishment given to that high price for two reasons: 1. Center city. Stuff is always more expensive in cities. 2. Yum. The cupcakes were just the right consistency, and super duper chocolatey. We both got the cookie dough cupcakes with a generous glob of dough on top and some buttercreamy frosting. Those were downed right away. I brought home my brownie... again, chocolate cookie dough because, come on, you know. Now that I have had that, I can vouch it is also super chocolatey, dense, delicious, just the right flavor and consistency. Devoured the entire gigantic block. 5 stars at any price. Service was quick and friendly, though we were the only ones in there. Very limited waiting room - tiny store, you basically walk in and order and walk out. I'm surprised we didn't run into a line of people at 6:30 PM on a Saturday, but the weather may have helped. This place deserves a line out the door for their quality. Bring your dough and eat some dough!
google avatar

Yelp
I did not even eat the cupcakes at Sweet Box Cupcakes and now I feel...foolish. However, I did try nearly everything else! Bring on the 5 star chocolate chip cookie (cakie, flakey salts, ribbons of chocolate), edible frozen cookie dough (goodbye my lover goodbye my friend I ate you for basically every meal across two days) and the amazing dirty jawn which is a brookie oreo creation (that I initially said I'd "freeze for later" but ended up eating much of...then ultimately throwing away because I feared it's power over me...you win this time, Dirty Jawn). Okay so now that that's out of the way, service here is amazing and I honestly didn't think prices were that bad, though I may be in the minority. The dough was only like $6 and you can't find that price in a grocery store so...support local for your edible raw dough needs. The service and vibes here are both excellent and it's hard to imagine going anywhere else for a sweet treat. Excited to grab treats for visitors and stop by anytime I find myself on that side of Broad.

Yelp
Cute bakery in center city. There is usually a spot at the corner to run in quickly. Can't say much about the service since it's very transactional, but the cupcakes are good. I usually grab cupcakes from here when a co worker has a birthday coming up. They haven't disappointed yet!

Yelp
Following our destination wedding we planned an East Coast celebration and were looking for a recreation of our cake. I reached out to Sweet Box and asked them if they could make something similar which they were able to do! Cake was tasty and very cute. Wonderful communication during the ordering process. Ended up grabbing a festive Phillies Phanatic cupcake when I was there picking up my order which did not disappoint!
google avatar

Khadijah G.

Yelp
Cupcakes were just okay for me. They were overpriced and nothing spectacular. I'm not sure why they were so cold as well. I prefer my cupcakes at room temperature and moist.
google avatar

Lauren I.

Yelp
The name Sweet Box is so fitting! The store really does feel like an enlarged box of treats. I grabbed a strawberry Halloween cupcake (of what, I don't know) and I was really impressed that the strawberry didn't taste artificial. Overall, I wasn't blown away, but I will definitely return and have high hopes I will enjoy another flavor more!
google avatar

Hayley G.

Yelp
The best cupcakes in the city! The cake is moist, fresh and flavorful and the frosting is the perfect sweetness. Highly recommend the black and white milkshake -- it's a true treat! I'm a cupcake connoisseur and this is at the top of my list in any city.
google avatar

Efraim S.

Yelp
They are a local bakery with great cupcakes but also good bars and cookies. They seem to live raw cookie dough which isn't my fave but it's good. You may even be able to snag some hot fresh baked coolies
google avatar

Ariana A.

Yelp
Only bakery i buy cupcakes from. Favorites include the birthday cake, vanilla vanilla, strawberry shortcake and cake batter. Their jawns are also out of this world. Highly recommend eating them at room temperature and not out of the fridge. A delightful place that needs to kindly multiply.

Yelp
I had to swing by my office and was craving something sweet so I placed an order for pick-up at Sweet Box on my way home this afternoon. This place has been on my bookmarks/bucket list for a hot minute. My co-workers have been raving about their cupcakes, but I personally wanted to try the "Jawn" because it's one of their most popular items. My order was placed through DoorDash, but Sweet Box is also listed on Caviar. Ordering was a breeze. You can choose what time you'd like to pick up and you receive an e-mail confirmation. I also received a text message when my order was ready. The cupcakes of the day are listed on their Instagram page. I decided to get the "Jawn" and a banana pudding. When my friend and I arrived, a woman was at the front unpacking some boxes and she asked for our names and handed us our orders. Fairly easy transaction. We asked if it was absolutely necessary to place the order on DoorDash (we know DoorDash makes a small profit off of the business and it sucks) but to our surprise, she said the cupcakes she had on display were still available and we don't necessarily have to order through the app if we know what we want when we stop in. She was very warm and welcoming and thanked us for stopping in. It was a little cramped in there, but I understand their working conditions must be tough right now with the pandemic going on. It's a strange time for everyone. The banana pudding was smooth and creamy. I'd love it if it came in a bigger size, but I was so satisfied with the flavor and I devoured it in 5 minutes. Haven't tried the "Jawn" yet but I'm super pumped to give it a whirl tomorrow! I could almost see rays of sunshine leaving the box as I opened it to snap a picture. Five stars all the way for Sweet Box! Can't wait to visit again.

Yelp
Was visiting Philly for one day. Found Sweet Box on Yelp and decided to pick up some cupcakes to help friend celebrate her birthday. The staff were helpful with recommendations and answered questions to make me feel at ease regarding allergen ingredients. All were friendly. There were so many options that I had a hard time deciding which cupcakes to pick. The bakery is clean with a large variety of sweets to select from. I would return. The cupcakes were yummy. Interested in trying the lemon bars, cookies, and repeat ordering cupcakes!

Yelp
I've been seeing the cupcakes from this bakery on Instagram often and people raving about how good they are. I also heard my brother talking about this place non stop also so I needed to try something from here and see what the hype is all about. My brother ended up grabbing me a half dozen when he was in the area working. I ended up cutting the cupcakes up and sharing them with my sister and her bf. We did a little cupcake wars taste test of each cupcake piece and critiqued them and basically said if we enjoyed them or not. My favorite was the chocolate chip cookie dough cupcake because it had edible cookie dough on top and in the middle which was tasty. As far as the other cupcakes, the cake was a bit dry and didn't match the hype around this place. I tried the edible cookie dough by itself and really liked it. I would go myself one day and get different cupcakes so I can see which one is my second favorite. I enjoyed tasting the different cupcakes and think they are creative with putting all kinds of toppings on them, and for the fact they sell cookie dough that is edible is awesome. I would definitely come down here one day and grab my own baked goods.

Yelp
I have to compliment Sweet Box Cupcakes for the presentation. Every single one of their cupcakes are beautiful. They are perfect for a birthday or a sweet gift to give someone you love. As far as the flavor, I would say that the cupcakes are okay. I bought a variety of 6 all different flavors and I'm a little disappointed because they all taste the same. I bought the orange cream, birthday cake, strawberry, vanilla, chocolate and cookie dough. I couldn't taste a difference in the batters. The icing taste the same as well, with the exception of the orange cream. Overall, I was not blown away but I may return one day to give it another chance.

Yelp
I'm not even really a fan of cupcakes, but I was walking by and got a couple to try when I had some friends over, and they are delicious. Good assortment of flavors and unique combinations.

Yelp
On recent weekend trip to Philly, we found this location on Yelp and took a short walk from downtown to this Excellent local small business. I can say I have honestly never had such rich, buttery goodness as I had in the buttercream frosting that was between the 2 salted dark chocolate chip cookies - AMAZING! My husband picked 2 varieties of edible cookie doughs. The cake batter which featured M & M's and Sprinkles which was great but I was partial to the more traditional chocolate chip that they had available presented in "push pop" presentation. We also got a cookie dough brownie which would've served 6 easily given the overall richness. This was the most perfect, chewy, chocolatey brownie topped with a layer of chocolate chip cookie dough and topped with thick layer of chocolate ganache. It was so good, I wouldn't hesitate to get any brownie, cookie doughs or cookie sandwiches which I can personally speak to. Prices are decent for area, staff was friendly. Get there early for best availability. I am almost happy I don't live close as I would be visiting way too often. Do your sweet tooth a favor and go now!

Yelp
We had a last minute order before a private event (surprise engagement party), and Gretchen kindly accommodated our order. She was very responsive, professional, and a pleasure to work with. Everyone at the party raved about how delicious the mini cupcakes were. They were the perfect touch to a perfect event. Thank you!!

Yelp
On Saturday 12/5 ran into this quaint little bakery to grab last minutes cupcakes for a friends bday. There was on other patron in the shop who was wrapping up his transaction as I arrived. The young lady who waited in me was VERY bubbly and pleasant. She was patient as I selected 6 different cupcakes and added a banana pudding to my order. They offer candles and other trinkets for sale upon check out. I had the pleasure experiencing the strawberry shortcake cupcake which was DELICIOUS!! I MUST TRY. Please note parking was challenging I had to circle the block 3 times and walk back a block. Also this is located on the right hand side on the corner.

Yelp
If you follow Any Philly foodie social media...You've DEF come across a picture of a glorious "jawn" from this place with envy. (effective marketing) It's a cake topped with cookie dough topped with frosting. It's ridiculous. It's bigger than your palm. It's a brick. It's a beautiful sugar brick that has beckoned me for years. (non-Philly locals, "jawn" is a slang term native to our city. It can substitute near any noun.) And I recently decided it was time to find it for myself. Sweet Box is located on a cute corner of south-ish Philly, almost easy to miss, adorned with lights. The staff was super friendly, the many cupcake flavors tempting, but I was here for: The Jawn. PLOT TWIST there's TWO Jawns: the Dirty Jawn (oreo) and the original Jawn (funfetti). I went with the OG. I was expecting a sickingly sweet sugar bomb--but, surprisingly, it was somehow balanced. Though most definitely rich - plan to share it with a friend, or have it over 2-4 sittings depending on your tolerance. It's a little expensive, but not really considering its dense and massive. I feel complete now, somehow. Like I've leveled up as a local foodie.

Yelp
This bakery allows you to live out your childhood dreams of bright sparkles, gobs of cookie dough, and brownie-batter filled cupcakes. The quality does not dip behind the extravagant displays, though. Moist and dense cake base that pleases everyone. I also enjoyed their Philly Jawn (confetti cake base, cookie dough second layer, covered in buttercream and sprinkles) though best to be shared between 2-3.

Yelp
I have been dying to visit Sweet Box ever since I saw photos of their cupcakes on social media a few years ago, and I finally had the chance to stop by last week. Everything that I purchased exceeded my expectations and was insanely delicious. The cupcakes were beautifully decorated and tasted amazing, and the jawn was unlike any baked good I have ever eaten before. Their customer service was also exceptional and their online presence is wonderful. Definitely a must-visit for anyone in the Philly area!

Giovanni V.

Yelp
Service is great in this cute little shop. However, stick to cupcakes. I purchased lemon ricotta cookies on a lark. They were as if eating raw cookie dough. A big fail.
google avatar

Alexis D.

Yelp
If you have a big sweet tooth, this is the perfect place for you! If you love cookie dough, look no further. Everything we ordered was incredible. It's seems like cookie dough is a main staple in most of their desserts- and I'm here for it! We ordered the Original Jawn, the Dirty Jawn, the cookie dough brownie, and cookie dough pop. My favorite was the Dirty Jawn.
google avatar

Karolina K.

Yelp
This place is great for baked goods that aren't overly sweet. The cupcakes are moist, fluffy, with fresh frosting. The lemon bar is the perfect amount of gooey on the inside, and crisp on the outside. Again, not overwhelmingly sweet, which I appreciate so much. Really, really glad I came across this place. Will definitely visit again with friends or use for parties.
google avatar

Jada G.

Yelp
Sorry to disappoint you, but I'm not the biggest fan of edible cookie dough, which I get is this place's whole schtick. Despite that, I'm sure you can tell that their other things are equally delicious and rich! I bought a lemon bar and the Chocolate Peanut Butter Cupcake, which both shocked the heck out of me in price, but when I ate them I realized "Hmm, okay, I get it" because this isn't your bakery-section-in-the-market dessert. The lemon bar was super lemony and the crust was buttery and held together well. The cupcake was standard chocolate cake, but the icing is literally a peanut butter heaven. I don't know how one makes icing that rich in PB flavor without turning the whole thing into gook lumped on a cake, but do yourself a favor (if you're not allergic!) and try this!
google avatar

Sari Marissa G.

Yelp
We've been fans of Sweet Box since tasting their cupcakes years ago when they were just a truck. We have since become really big fans of their midtown village storefront. Their "Jawn" is without a doubt one of the best desserts/snacks in all of Philly. It's TO. DIE. FOR!!! It's an edible funfetti dough bar smothered in buttercream frosting and topped with JIMMIES!! It's honestly outrageous, and is alone worth a visit, although their cupcakes and other goodies such as my kiddo's favorites, the chocolate covered edible chocolate chip cookie dough pops (say that one more time and let it sink in!!!!) are not to be overlooked! Cupcake stand outs for our crew are peanut-butter pretzel and cotton candy. They're light but packed full of flavor. Most recently we ordered a few Jawns and some cookie dough bites topped we topped with slim candles and fun themed toothpicks for a unique alternative to a traditional birthday cake for our daughter. It was such a huge hit!!! (A little "Jawn" goes quite a long way as it's super thick) A tad pricey but worth every penny. You cannot go wrong with anything here but if you're picking up jawns or dough bites to-go, remember they need to be refrigerated immediately. Ahhhhhh-mazing!! TRULY!!

Yelp
Looking for a whimsical, quaint and cheery bakery serving up a unique variety of flavors of cupcakes, cookies, brownies and dessert bars in Philly? Check out @sweetboxphilly! Pictured are their Dulce de Leche and Chocolate Ganache cupcakes, both moist and delicious!

Yelp
Love the service here! The woman that helped us was sweet and informative! We got the hot cocoa, carrot cake, and chocolate chip cookie dough. The hot cocoa is AMAZING! Highly recommend and literally would come back for this one alone. The chocolate cupcake isn't too sweet and the marshmallow filling is perfect! The whipped cream frosting melts in your mouth and the marshmallow on top is cute and yummy. The carrot cake was good too, little too sweet for me but my dad loved it! The cake itself is moist and tastes just like a carrot cake should.
google avatar

Meek N.

Yelp
Highly recommend! Their cupcakes are moist and light, the icing is flavorful as well.
google avatar

Craig W.

Yelp
Stopped in for a six pack of cupcakes after my wife showed me all of the delicious looking sweets on Instagram. Gotta say, these are probably the best cupcakes I've ever had. They stayed moist a day after (I love to eat but not 6 cupcakes in a day). What I think was most special about the cupcakes was the frosting. Im not sure what kind of fats went into it, but there was a nice balance of sweet and creaminess. Some frosting just want to make your teeth scream from all the sugar. Pictured is: chocolate ganache, strawberry shortcake, candy cane, hot cocoa and vanilla frosted with Christmas sprinkles We also got the cake batter cupcake but it got eaten by someone before I even got the box open myself. For the cake batter cupcakes, there's cake batter in the center so that was a very tasty surprise

Yelp
I have always LOVED Sweet Box! I first found the small shop during my freshman year and make a point to stop by for some cookie dough when I'm in the city! It's on a small side street so parking is always tough, but well worth it! It's a small shop, but everyone inside is always smiling and the treats definitely help to brighten any day :)

Julie J.

Yelp
Wow! Quick, easy ordering on their website for a Valentine treat and on-time, courteous delivery from Doordash! Thank you very much Sweetbox; highly recommend and will be sure to visit again.
google avatar

Olivia R.

Yelp
*Yawn* or shall I say *jawn*. I got the funfetti jawn, which has a layer of cake, cookie dough, and frosting. Let me prefix this by saying I am a sweets LOVER and I also got banana pudding and a cupcake from a nearby bakery because thats how much of an addict I am. The bar had potential but it just didn't meet the mark. It was cold as if it had been refrigerated, which made the cake layer hard and dry. Combined with cookie dough and frosting it was all too sweet. I think this dessert was made for instagram and not our mouths.
google avatar

Deirdre C.

Yelp
I stopped in back in January after following them for a while on Instagram and drooling at every post! I purchased three different items: a Jawn, a cupcake and a lemon bar I believe. They didn't have the flavor Jawn that I wanted to try so I went with the one they had. I wasn't blown away by any of the items. I mean, they were good but for the price and hype, I thought I would have been speechless. I will try them again for the Jawn that I still want to try.
google avatar

Sumana K.

Yelp
I have always been thankful for sweet box in my life, but especially now since they are open for pickup and delivery during these difficult times. They make the most perfect cupcakes I've had in Philadelphia and will turn anyone's frown upside down.
google avatar

Alyssa G.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this bake shop while on a walk and had to stop by. I tried the cookie dough / funfetti bar and was a bit disappointed. It was overwhelmingly sweet and overpowered by the flavor of the buttercream which can only be described as "sugar". This is definitely a dessert for sharing as I could not finish it due to the sweetness. The cupcakes looked tasty, however and I'd pick one of those up next time.
google avatar

Holli G.

Yelp
We got Jawn Bars delivered during quarantine. They were delicious but very sweet and rick so you definitely have to expect that going in. We also got some really cool flavored cupcakes (not pictured) that were unique. We got strawberry shortcake and cookie dough. I would definitely order from Sweet Box again!
google avatar

Eileen C.

Yelp
I really wish they shipped to DC. I'd be buying a box every week! GET THE SAMOA CUPCAKES!!!! Their cookies were to die for as well. I will be a returning customer whenever I'm in town!
google avatar

Meghan T.

Yelp
Some of, if not THE, best cupcakes I've had. Gotten them delivered for various occasions - birthdays, passing the bar exam, etc. The best.
google avatar

Maria O.

Yelp
Disturbingly sweet & indulgent, but not bad. Flavors kind of all taste the same? Perhaps just not my thing, but definitely not worth the hype regardless. Def don't go here if you're looking for sophisticated flavor
google avatar

Linda W.

Yelp
Wow! So good! So happy finally found a bakery. Our town hasn't got a bakery, missed a bakery.

JJ W.

Yelp
I've ordered delivery from Sweet Box 3 times to send to my son who is going to school in Philly. They have been reliable each time and my son has loved their cupcakes. Their online ordering is also easy.
google avatar

Charlie E.

Yelp
Best cupcakes in Philly by far. Their cake batter cupcake was perfectly sweet, and OMG i should have gotten more! Don't forget about their cookie dough in the back! Would definitely try a Jawn next time, they looked damn good!

Yelp
We stopped by Sweet Box Cupcakes this morning. The place was small and empty, but very cute. All of the desserts looked amazing, so I was really excited to try something. I got the Lemon Bar, and my boyfriend got the Dirty Jawn. Overall, we were both pretty disappointed in what we got, especially considering the great reviews. The textures were great but the flavors were not good. The lemon bar didn't taste lemony. It was sweet and artificial tasting, with a hint of lemon. No tartness. Nothing like a traditional lemon bar. When I tried the Dirty Jawn, all I could taste was sugar. It didn't have any distinct flavor. You couldn't get the Oreo flavor. We took a few bites and ended up throwing most of it away. It was $14 wasted.

Yelp
Possibly the Best Cupcakes I've ever had. I took a ride here after work and grabbed 4. (vanilla, chocolate, birthday cake & chocolate cookie dough) Also grabbed a brownie (which also included a layer of cookie dough-I'm cool with that) Arrived home threw on some coffee and split up the cupcakes into 1/4's for the fam to share ... our reaction was priceless. I mean honestly abit embarrassing - pure f'n joy from the first bite. The icing and cake were really that good. We split up the other 3 after dinner and again same reaction for the most part (the vanilla wasn't as fresh as the others though) Bottom Line - Amazing oh yea, I almost forgot about the brownie ... It was too much of a good thing. The brownie layer combined with the cookie dough was too good of a combination and seemed to clash. I ended up dividing the layers into seperate pieces and eating it like that. Whatever works. Check this place out !! You won't regret it. Time for me to go detox now - I'm still buzzing from all the Sugar.

Yelp
Sweet box makes delicious cupcakes and offers reliable delivery! My DS' favorite birthday tradition

Yelp
I think I may be the #1 fan of Sweet Box. They're my go-to for baked goods for bday treats and other celebratory events that call for cupcakes and & other sweets. I had to update my original review after trying the cheesecakes - pumpkin and plain. They really are THAT good! The pumpkin is my favorite- even the crust is cosmic!

When my family grew too large for the city we moved to the burbs and never looked back. I hate going into the city. Almost nothing is worth dealing with the pedestrians that don't know how to cross a street. Sometimes I have to brave the city traffic in order to escape the dated bakery offerings of the suburbs. Sweet Box is my spot! Strawberry Champagne was my ride or die until I discovered how amazing Red Velvet is. My affair turned into polyamory bliss when Birthday Cake was added to the group. Sometimes you need a classy guy to go home to. My cupcake commitment may be weak but I'm committed to making a stop at Sweet Box when I have to go into the city. Think of it as having a glass of wine before your mother in law visits. Sweet Box knows cream cheese frosting. You can taste that they do this for life. I'll admit, I hate cream cheese. I'm more of a buttercream girl. However, the frosting at Sweet Box has me stepping out yet again. It's the perfect amount of tangy without being overly sour and of course it is perfectly sweet. I recommend doing the deed at room temperature. That's when the flavors really set off my fireworks. When you feel like being really naughty, treat yourself to the fudge. I took mine home and things got a little heated (microwave). Then we added some ice cream to the fun. Best I've ever had. I look forward to our next steamy encounter.
