I have been coming to sweet yummy house for over 12 years now and it remains one of my favorite places, hands down. I’m a chef and Chinese, and have been eating around NYC for over 24 years. The dishes to get are: twice cooked pork, whole tilapia with bean paste (it’s a famous dish), pork with garlic sauce, three cup chicken, just to name a few! You won’t be disappointed!

Pretty affordable with a genuine taste of Sichuan flavors, their menu never fails to surprise with impressive dishes that keep you coming back for more. One of the highlights is their incredible lunch special: a meal over rice with soup for only $7. Not only is it budget-friendly, but the taste is unexpectedly delightful, making it a perfect spot for a satisfying and affordable lunch. The restaurant truly embodies the spirit of great value for money. Highly recommend for anyone looking for authentic Sichuan cuisine without breaking the bank!

Absolutely a delight when it comes to Sichuan food! I can't recommend enough! My weekly guilty pleasure

No frills on decor just straight and simple Sichuan spiciness. Spicy Dried Fish-Fillet is our go to with Sour mustard bamboo shoot with fish slice soup (added more vinegar to our liking) And other Sichuan signatured dishes are very good. Yang Chow Fried rice is consistently aromatic and Beef Chow Fun is freshly fried Kway Teow. Thumbs up!!

Recommended. Great taste and decent price. Super yummy Steam fish recommended, please come early if you want to order this food. Will comeback again later. Came this restaurant many times and ordered different menus. Worth to try when in this neighborhood. Please see pictures below for the food.

WARNING: Tip chasing waitresses Had a very bad experience here on our last visit. We were off by a few dollars with the "minimum tip" of 12% and the waitress pretty much demanded and argued that we HAD to pay the mandatory 12%. Everyone in the restaurant looked at us as the waitress pretty much got so mad. It was unbelievable. I know we're all out here tryna scrape up a living but if she wants to earn more money then he should take it out on the owner and ask higher pay, not on us regular customers. Shameful service

Not recommend this restaurant! Terrible service, waiting times is more than an hour for just 3 tables customers. Waitress is rude and will ask for more tips for her trash service. If u don’t want feel sick. Just don’t go. Not recommend and check your bank they will charge you extra money.

Cheap and cheerful. Great food at more than reasonable prices if you are willing to put up sparing decor. Noodles seemed hand made. Very chewy and fresh

Food was amazing! They're so delicious. Great portion too, especially for the affordable prices. Service was nice. They were understaffed, but the staff that were there had great attitude. The ambience is just like your typical neighborhood restaurant, feels authentic without the extra fluff. It was overall a nice experience.

This place has been on my list of places that I wanted to visit as I pass by it in Elmhurst. It was fairly crowded when we walked inside. The menus are already on the table. No one really greets you as you come inside, and they tell you to sit wherever, but no one really showed us, so we sat at an available table. The menu was already at the table, and there were two sets, one with pictures and the one with words on it. Everything was very inexpensive, and after the bill came out, we were just shocked at how much it all cost. We ordered for the table mushrooms with veggies (there were more veggies vs. mushrooms, and it was very noticeable). I got myself the Dan Dan noodles, which was alright, and it was a decent portion size. My friend got the Chow fun beef, which was large, but still very budget friendly. All in all, looking for something that won't cost an arm and a leg look no further.

Small, no-frills, Chinese spot in an area where Chinese restaurants make up the majority of the real estate. The place specializes in Szechuan Chinese foods, but they have a massive menu so there are plenty of options if you don't like spice The food is very authentic, which means that there are a bunch of entrees with strange ingredients including pigs feet & intestines, so double check what you're getting with your server before you order Their was one woman working there when I went, but she was very friendly and my food was prepared quickly I got noodles with beef and it was delicious. As many others have mentioned they don't use a ton of protein (probably to save money), but I didn't mind since the noodles were very tasty Complimentary tea Very affordable Bib Gourmand 2018 9

This review is written by my son. The Food. OMG. This was an amazing experience Especially the food. My family's favorite was the sesame rice balls. Amazing. My favorite was the shrimp over Crispy rice. The Spice in some of the food was AMAZING!!! Apart from that, the service was great, fast and amazing overall! It is a small Well deserved Michelin Bib Gorman place. So Peaceful!

The food is excellent. Right amount of spicy. Spicy to tickle your tongue, but not so spicy you're sweating and crying. Service is fast. The ladies working the restaurant are efficient. They won't chat with you, but they will get you everything they wanted. I always get the napo tofu, Dan Dan noodles and spicy fish filet. The price is very reasonable. My friends and I hang out for hours without a bother. It's not fancy, but it's delicious.

Sweet Yummy House is a typical mom and pop restaurant you would see in any Chinatown. Keep in mind that this is a Szechuan restaurant. They specialize in dishes like mapo tofu and dan dan noodles. If you are not a fan of spicy food, this is not the place for you. I came with two friends and we ordered a few different dishes. We did have some Cantonese food though (chow fun) to mix it up. The food here was just okay for us. This place is a little stingy with meat and the dishes tend to be filled mostly with vegetables and noodles. Everything we had was also too greasy and oily. Taste wise, everything tasted fine though. However, there are better Chinese places in Elmhurst.

Favorite place in the neighborhood. Great prices and I have enjoyed every dish I've ever gotten here. I take any friend who visits here to get take out. My go-tos are A19 Fish Fillet in Hot Red Pepper Sauce (it's like a dry fried spicy fish almost like in dry hot pot) and fish fillet, beef or pork in fresh hot pepper. I've also enjoyed their vegetarian dishes like the eggplant (!!) and string beans. Basics like general gao's chicken or beef with broccoli I've also been told by visiting friends were good. Honestly I feel like it's hard to go wrong here, but definitely don't miss one of the "in fresh hot pepper" dishes. Ooo the wontons in chili oil are also actively very tasty. Love love love this place!! Bring cash, it's a little cheaper!

This is our go to spot for authentic spicy Szechuan dishes. Decent portions and prices. If you are into spicy, just give a try and likely you'll get hooked. Fish,lamb, chicken and more- all delicious!

One of my favorite Sichuan foods near my neighborhood to eat as well as my mom that my mom really likes to eat there for lunch...I've been eating there several times with my family for lunch and the food tastes really good and delicious! Really friendly and attentive service for the food to be served! I'm also amazed that few of my cousins liking and eating really spicy food for their first time! I would definitely eat there again and come back! :)

Lo mein, and dumplings are the best around! On Mt life!!! I'm sooo picky! It's just so full of flavor.

Before I ordered, I asked the waitress if the pig intestine was fresh. She gave me a impatient look and told me this is one of their most popular dishes, but the actual dish was not fresh and over deeply fried. Greasy and smelly. It was a very disappointing lunch. Stale food and no service.

They have a wide variety of authentic dishes, with a handful of non spicy food. Food was ok, on the oiler, saucy side.

Meat not fresh, beef and shrimp very slimey. The pictures on menu are very misleading and it's overpriced! DONT COME HERE!

Worst place to eat. Too much oily and salty on food. We order 3 item, the guys bring out in table in 3 min. "That's too quick to be true"...food was too bad" Don't spend time/ money to go...

Ever craved for a spicy Szechuan fish Fillet? I have that craving every now and then. I saw a photo on here and I was excited to try it. The hunger in me decided okay I'll order that dish and so I looked at the caption and looked at my food delivery app. I made the order. The delivery person was quick to deliver it to me and she even made sure to check that the person receiving it was the one that ordered. Unfortunately, yelp deceived me with its photo and the person who posted it starts with W. The photo captioned the dish incorrectly and called it fish Fillet with sour cabbage. You know which photo. Yelp really should make captions suggestion a thing. Anyways, the Fish Fillet with cabbage was definitely not spicy but a nice soup dish for those rainy weather days. I recommend it for days when you just want something light. I also made a few other orders. The dandan noodles is filling and worth it. This place has many great options.

This is not the type of restaurant that you come to and order Chinese American style dishes. You must come here for the Szechuan food, and that is all. Don't even bother ordering anything here that is not spicy! This place was slammed with customers on a Saturday afternoon, there were people sharing tables and rearranging chairs to get seated. You will be seated quickly, but be prepared to wait a while for them to take your order. This place is small and there was food sharing and drink sharing even across tables. A man ordered a massive pile of spicy crabs and BYOB wine and was sharing with another person that he just met because the guy asked about the crabs. They did look really good, but I was not going to eat his food as well. You are given a complimentary dish of boiled peanuts with spicy and five spice flavor on them. Fun to eat with chopsticks. The Spicy Wontons were perfect with that smokey garlic and chili flavor. Some places make them too sweet, but here they are just perfect! We ordered the Ong Choi with garlic sauce as we always do, and it was delicious. Ate the whole thing. The Sliced Fish Filets with Chili Peppers is so tender and aromatic with the crunch of peanuts, hot pepper spice, and mild wine flavor. I could do without the bell pepper, so I picked that out. They have a fresh chili section of the menu, and we ordered the Sliced Pork with Fresh Chili. The sliced pork was fatty marbled shoulder, sliced super thin, and was very tender. Underneath was a large amount of cabbage. The chili flavor was out of this world. We probably ordered one dish too many, so it was a little pricey for us. There is so much on this menu left to discover, too bad we are not going to live in the area anymore.

Sweet? I can not imagine Anything coming out of that kitchen that has any sweetness to it. Beginning with the Spicy Rabbit appetizer, which was flavorful, but very bony experience, heat was the theme.. The bold flavors were in your face with every mouthful. In particular I found the the pungency and spiciness in the entree's like the Xong King Fish (I may have gotten the 1st word incorrect) and the Spicy Beef with vegetables, were a direct result of quite loose handed & liberal use of garlic and chili peppers. Sweet Yummy House fits a wonderful niche serving up Szechwan style cooking, right in the middle of busy Elmhurst. Typically to have the opportunity to enjoy such particular and regional cooking, one would need to venture to Manhattan or the Flushing area. The fish dish was served in a bowl that literally held just under 3/4 of a gallon of liquid, with many Yummy items waiting below the surface of the spicy red liquid and was close to impossible to finish. I am still a touched perplexed as to all the ingredients. The Beef dish was not particularly to my liking, as the vegetables were only onions and peppers and thee beef really only made up less than 1/4 of the dish. The beef did taste like it was a little on the old side. Priced at $17.50, it was a poor choice and the service was haphazard. My table was not level and I did not think I was outwardly making a noticeable motions to that effect. Immediately 3 people were under the table tinkering, within a few minutes, my table could have withstood a Cat5.

It's terrible! The service was terrible , and most of all the food. I had a feeling of gagging after eating in this restaurant. I first walked into the restaurant, total of 9 tables and only 1 table of occupied at 3:47pm on a Tuesday. The menu just sat on the table and no one greeted me to ask me if I want water or tea. I sat there for a good 5 minute waiting for the waiter to come to me and take my order and he never came. So when I had enough of waiting, I turned to them and raised my hand so I could order. The waiter said "okay" to me but never had eye contact with me. It was straight out rude of how they treat their customers. Now the food part.. I got their changdu jelly noodle and slice pork garlic sauce and a drink called "coffee and tea". The two dishes used the same sauce... tasted completely the same and it only took them lesss than 5minutes to prepared the food and brought it to my table. The jelly noodle, honestly looks pretty tasty on picture, did taste good on the first few bite but it's really easy to get tired of it because that's all they have in the dish, just jelly noodle and the sauce!!! The milk tea just taste like water added with brown color dye.. doesn't taste like anything, super duper diluted. You might even find water taste better than this drink. I'm sincerely disappointed of this restaurant bc it's one of the restaurant recommend by ny.eater.com. The way they treat customers and their food just didn't live up to the standard.

This is my go to place for spicy food. Yes, some of the dishes are salty, but I think it's bearable if you eat enough rice lol. One complaint I have is that there are way too many peppers and not enough meat or vegetables. Literally half the dish is filled with peppers and it's really annoying having to go through them to find actual things

The best Eggplant in Garlic sauce I've had! Reminds me of home. Definitely going to try other dishes. The best yummy in my tummy I've had during these trying times

Worst restaurant ever, horrible service and disgusting food. The waitress didn't provide any service besides throw the food on our table. The table was as dirty as their cups. It supposed to be a Sichuan restaurant from the name, but their food has nothing to do with Sichuan style. The price is about the same in the area but the amount is far less. I had a diarrhea the night right after eating in there. So I guess their food is not clean. I will not go back or recommend anyone to eat there.

Food is good but all of them has so much oil, lamb cook very well with seasoned spices. The pot of hot tea was welcoming since I like tea all the time. It is not bad in this neighborhood but you always have choices from Thai , Indonesia, philipines, and Chinese. Quick eat and quick out is OK Prices are reasonable May be not come back for while!!!

This Sichuan restaurant, but the food isn't have any of Sichuan taste isn't spicy like Sichuan food. And the dishes are small.

pre-pandemic we went there to dine with friends and food was always great. post-pandemic, we go there for take-out only and our go-to dishes are the scallion egg fried rice and braised sliced fish. these two dishes are better than most non-expensive sichuan places.

This fish filet in fresh hot pepper was so stunning and super spicy. The taste was authentic. Plain rice balls w/ rice wine sauce soup was yummy. The dish has too much oil. And all the Chinese dishes have MSG, and I have ok with it. I gave one star off because the restaurant name. Actually it was not sweet but Szechuan authentic spicy.

Not a bad alternative place. We came to this restaurant by luck. I looked at other reviews but ended up here. Unbelievable discovery! The name says it all, yummy! Believe it or not, the dishes here are truly yummies! It's a small place but we saw customers inside so when there's customers, there's tasty food inside (most of the time). I let Hubby do the ordering. A lot of seafood are no longer available at the time. They don't order a lot of crabs for the restaurant because they want to keep them fresh so we missed that. Hubby ordered steamed dumpling, shrimp/mushroom dish and fish in black bean sauce. For the fish we said we wanted it to be spicy. They're very generous, especially when it comes to adding extra spice. Saw lots of small green chili in the fish dish. The tastes for both dishes were absolutely exceptional! We were surprised to get both dishes taste this good. The shrimp dish served with my favorite mushroom and crispy rice cake. This rice cake style cooking is something to brag about because I had rice cake in a dish recently too. I think I should try this at home. The crispy rice dissolves in the sauce while eating and what makes it better is the rice has some sweet taste in it. I don't normally eat sweet food for main course but this is really good. Try this dish because you won't get exactly like this anywhere. The black bean fish is another great eat. The sauce was delicious. Since the plate is big, we took half of it home. I removed the sauce before packing it because I really think it's better without too much sauce, and that's just my preference. I also didn't eat lots of the other sauce for the shrimp either. Our waiter/waitress were very good at telling us about each dish. Pretty knowledgeable. This place didn't disappoint.

My family is picky and I wanted to try somewhere new. We ended up here at this sweet yummy place. We purchased turnip& pork soup, crispy fried duck, vegetable with black mushroom, scallion and egg rice, golden salty egg with crab and I must say it was all good. I couldn't believe how much I ate that night. I kept going and going. The turnip and pork soup was a really good mix for a soup. The golden salty egg with crab was salted just the right amount with all the shell edible. The duck was amazing too. The green scallion rice was mediocre but the vegetables with black mushroom were also great too!

Maybe they overemphasize their name too much. They don't live up to it. I did not experience sweet nor yummy food here. In fact, it was far from yummy, if anything. If you're looking to have some Cantonese dishes, this isn't the place; go up the boulevard for Ping's. One lazy night, I stopped by to order a simple Yeung Chow fried rice to go. The nice dining cafe interior could have fooled me. The front looked like a typical Chinese take-out place. After 10 minutes of waiting, I get a tiny box in a bag. THIS is my $7 order? Mind you, it wasn't a regular-sized takeout box you see regularly - it was about half the size. At first I was charged $6, then $7. SEVEN dollars for this small pint? The order itself didn't make anything better - it looked like something I could bs and call it fried rice. The rice was so mushy and it did not taste like any regular fried rice I could get at another restaurant. I guess that's Mandarin-style for you. By the time I got home, the oil leaked out of the box. Ew! So, I guess there was also too much oil, which explains why it was so mushy.

We came here on a Sunday afternoon to take advantage of their Lunch Specials. However, after we were seated, we noticed that there were no lunch specials in the menu and most dishes were in the $10-$15 range. We asked the waitress and she said it wasn't offered on Sundays except when ordering for take out. We let her know that we'd like to order for takeout, which she gladly took our order. In less than 10 minutes, our meals were handed over and we were on our way. I ordered the Lunch Special - L2: Spicy Double Cooked Pork ($5.50), which is twice cooked pork stir-fried with long pieces of scallion, hot green peppers sliced in half (cross-section), black bean, and red chili. I was amazed at how delicious the pork was, with tons of flavor. Saltiness from the black bean, spiciness from the red chili, and heat from the hot green pepper, made for a very tasty dish. The texture was spot on with an ever so subtle crispiness, like bacon. A side of their chopped cabbage in hot chili oil was also a nice treat as well as a variation of egg drop soup with tofu and what I believe to be canned scallop, an orange almost gelatinous thing. The grease from the pork and hot chili oil was easily absorbed with the generous serving of white rice. I also tried the Lunch Special - Shrimp and Chicken in Oyster Sauce ($5.50), which included chunks and bits of chicken, small whole shrimp, and diced zucchini. The chicken was tender, and shrimp firm yet not overcooked. The oyster sauce was the integral piece that tied all the ingredients together to make another spot-on dish. I was surprised at how both dishes were amazingly good. Being that I was expecting your typical Chinese takeout, I can say the dishes here are more authentically prepared and are very delicious. I can't speak for their normal entrees, but the lunch specials are a definite bargain worth checking out. Just be sure to ask that lunch specials are being offered before being seated, otherwise order it for takeout.

I've been going to this family run restaurant for the past 4 years. The food is consistently good! Pricing like all restaurants eventually creep up due to popularity and associated costs in running a business! Service is friendly and not slow. Food is flavorful and varied-depending on what your palate craves!

The fish filet bowl is out of this world (picture attached) - this one's enough for 5 or 6 people. Two people can share one and that's all you need, oh and Tsingtao beer :)

I wish i could select no star. This restaurant is greedy as hell. One order of beef broccoli comes with only 4 pieces of beef, I mean wtf.

terrible service and oily salty dishes. We ordered 4 item. All of them were finished within 5 minutes, without hearing any sound from the kitchen. Everything was already cooked and reheated for serve. Do not waste time.

I have tried many of their lunch specials since they are one of the very few restaurants who doesn't require minimum for delivery. My favorite is Diced Fish and Pickled Turnip in Spicy Sauce. The fish is very good but I hope they can give more fish and less pickles ;-) It also comes with a small soup for only $5.50!! Very Spicy but you can ask for less spicy. Shredded Pork Peking Style (Lunch Special) - It's pretty heavy. Normally I don't like heavy food too much, but this is good. Sweet and salty at the same time, similar to General Tso's chicken or sesame chicken with out sesame. Shredded Pork with Dry Bean Curd (Lunch Special) is not bad but a bit too oily for me. Spicy Double Cooked Pork (Lunch Special) - soso but mine was a little bit burned Enhanced Pork (Lunch Special) - taste like double cooked pork but more crispy, oily and spicier. I prefer this one than the double cooked pork. Shrimp and chicken in oyster sauce (Lunch Special) - my roommate like it but i think it was just okay. Too heavy for me. Dried Sauteed String Bean (Lunch Special) - DO NOT ORDER THIS ONE!!! This is terrible. I hate wasting food, but I can't even finish it so don't even think abt it.

The food here is incredible. A lot of imaginative, flavorful and well presented dishes. More upscale than your typical Elmhurst Chinese restaurants. Unfortunately customer service is way below the level and cost of the food. If they were to "level up" the customer service, I think they could become an all star restaurant. I'm serious!

5 star for the food but 3 star for the service. Authentic Si Chuan(spicy) Chinese food. I love the chili crab and the double cooked pork.

When my sister and I come here, we always order the fish filets with fresh hot pepper and three-cup basil chicken. Unfortunately, the quality of their dishes have really gone down-hill. There's way too much oil and MSG used in their cooking. If they start using less oil, I'll be more adamant to coming back. On the plus side, the food is authentic Szechuan cuisine and the portions are generous. We're always able to secure a table even on a busy Sat night.

This is dirtiest restaurant I have ever been, I never see the food cooked in so oily and greasy. Terrible experience and we understand there was not enough man power to support and serve. It was different restaurant before and they changed the name. Not going back, the next door Seafood restaurant is better.

Terrible service in and out .one day I was ordering the delivery it took them 1and half to my house .my order was only like 27 dollar and I gave the delivery about 4 and delivery guy was asking to tip him at least 6

One of the best places to eat and order for delivery. If you like spicy you'll like this place. The service is very good and the prices are reasonable. And let's not forget great tasting food.

I had the lunch special pork with bean curd. It's pretty good for the price. It comes with a complimentary soup. Worth it for the cheap price

Food was excellent! We asked for cumin lamb, I don't even think it's on the menu, and we got a very large, piping hot, absolutely delicious platter of fragrant lamb and peppers. The eggplant in garlic sauce was terrific as well. Beer duck was tasty but there wasn't much edible on those duck pieces, and it wasn't worth the price. Ambience isn't exactly overwhelming either. But who needs fancy? Overall really good food at very fair prices, perhaps the best Chinese food in walking distance of Jackson Heights. Update 5/19/16: Ok, I've been back repeatedly since my initial review and bumped this place to five stars. Food is consistently superb. Boneless breaded spare ribs were great, as are the string beans. Incredible vivid green pea shoots. Great combo fried rice. I look forward to trying a lot of other stuff here soon.

Billed itself as "Sweet Yummy House" with yummy Taste, Good Price & Excellent Service ....this place sure doesn't pass the criteria of their own ad.... I walked in this place hoping to have good food and excellent service and good price.. I got the good price all right but their service sucks and the food is average. The people who were working there were chatting, another was writing down something..for seconds they just stared at me like a phantom just walked in the door. It was 3:00 in the afternoon and still can get something from their Special Lunch menu for $5.50 served from 11:30 to 3:30 pm. Had the Shrimp & Chicken in Oyster Sauce..and Wonton soup...taste was okay ..nothing to rave about. Will I come back...don't think so...with all the good restaurants around Elmhurst...I won't be missing anything here...this place was newly opened when I went in.. ...always curious to try anything new on Broadway.. Service is very important to me and sadly didn't get it here...It plays a key role to any business...I'm sure will agree with me on that....

This review, oddly, is for one and one thing only - lunch special take out of 3 Cup Chicken I ate here for about 2 yrs while i worked in the neighborhood... i've always only ordered that one item. when picking up, there are about less than 10 tables in the small restaurant, i think there's only one table that seats 8, and the rest are 4 and 2-seaters. it looks like a fam business cuz there's a middle-aged couple and their daughter @ the cashier. even with my one and only order, they still often make mistakes (like forgetting to add hot peppers that i requested)... there were a few times that my coworkers got into small spats over the phone with them cuz of the bad phone attitude (from the youngsters, not the owners, i believe). just beware that the dishes here are heavy in flavor so expect saltiness and the need to drink lots of water after.

It's probably the only Szechuan restaurant in Elmhurst and they did quite a good job. Had their Kun pao chicken and Szechuan Pork With Cellophane Noodles (Ma yi shang shu), which were both good. Quite big portion, which is a plus. Honestly this place is not good as Grand Szechuan or other spicy food in Flushing. However, it's decent enough if you happen to crave Szechuan food while not bothering to go out of this neighborhood.

Eatable, all three dishes ordered today were salty as hell. Tips: if you ever dare to try, please stay away from the double cooked pork slices. You can find much better spicy food with lower price anywhere in New York. P.S. Now after the meal, my friend and I are both having upset stomach. So 2 stars to 1 star. Take care, for your own good.
