The Venice Lunch Guide

"There are plenty of places to get poké in Venice, but Wild Poké is some of the best. Bowls here are made with high-quality, big chunks of sushi-worthy tuna, and the spicy option has a sriracha mayo that we’re big fans of." - jess basser sanders, amy clark

Where To Find The Best Poke Bowls In LA

"For a long time (you know, since 2010), this Venice Beach counter had LA’s poke market all to itself. Right off the boardwalk, there’s pretty much always a long line and lots of tourists involved, so clearly they're not sweating the competition. The move here is to call in a takeout order and walk right past the line to pick it up. There are a bunch of bases and toppings to add on, and the fish is always fresh. A decent option if you’re in the area." - jess basser sanders

Google
Very fresh and great balance. Bamboo rice was good, ponzu was good and not too much source like other poke. It would be better to order online and pick up.

Linda McLoon

Google
For a small take out poke place, this was great. The fish was fresh, and all the ingredients in our poke bowls were well thought out. We had the mango albacore poke bowl and the shitake chili tofu bowl. Lots of people came and picked up takeout. They do have two small tables in the front on the sidewalk. I would definitely get their poke bowls again. Not much atmosphere needless to say.

Google
I placed a pickup order at Sweetfin and was told it would be ready in 10 minutes — it ended up taking over 30. On top of that, while I was waiting, I noticed flies hovering over the food behind the counter, which was really off-putting. The food itself was decent, but between the long wait and hygiene concerns, I’m not in a rush to go back.

Google
The food is really terrific - Celebrity chef, Dakota Weiss, who we love created the menus. The graphics are as fresh, bright, bold and tasteful as the food in the new $20 abundant sushi boxes. In-person visits: We had such fun at the Abbot Kinney location. Even the tiny amount of outdoor seating was shared with us customers talking to each other - and almost EVERYONE passing by stopped to inspect the box! There was only one worker who struggled but kept up with the flow of orders. side from the annoying, automated recording (that texts back)

Google
I come here almost every day after work so I think I should leave a review at this point. Super nice staff and great poke :) they’re super sweet. I get orders in this location since it’s pretty fast service and i always get time to sit down and eat during my 30 minute lunch breaks.

Google
horrible portions for the price I was paying I would have at expected then to be at least full. The tiniest little bowl with 3 pieces of tuna. Looked like they just threw it in there as quickly as possible: What a rip off!! 15 bucks a bowl for this??!! Never ordering from them again and I’m pissed I didn’t look at the reviews before I ordered.

Google
Rice is undercooked. Can’t pick them up. Service people has food in mouth to talk to me …

Taly Matiteyahu

Google
This was my first sweet fin experience and I really enjoyed it! Got the spicy tuna and loved the flavors, although I wish they put some of the sauce on lower layers so it didn’t get drier as you ate. Outdoor tables were pretty dirty, even after someone went out to clean them 🥲

Amparo R.

Yelp
Great service. Food has excellent flavor. My order came out quickly and taste. Congrats to the chefs.
google avatar

Nijole T.

Yelp
Unfortunately, they got both mine and my husband's order incorrect even after having to wait an additional 20 minutes. I usually always love the food here, but this was a letdown.
google avatar

Diana L.

Yelp
Took a walk through Venice beach and was craving some poke and we found Sweetfin nearby. I tried the Spicy Tuna Poke Bowl, I normally choose to build my own bowls at poke shops. I really enjoyed the creamy avocado with the spice, however the tuna itself wasn't the best - almost bland. Overall, good but not exactly what I was hoping for.
google avatar

Coco R.

Yelp
Food was good for a Poke bowl but nothing spectacular! Good seating outside to people watch in Abbot Kinney Blvd. Service was fast!

Jeremy Z.

Yelp
The food here is good but there is a higher likelihood they mess up your order than get it right. Last bowl I ordered was supposed to have tuna and salmon...missing the salmon. Oh and I had to wait 11 mins past the pickup time for a wrong order. Reached out to thanx and they forwarded my complaint to sweetfin...never responded.

Sibylle A.

Yelp
U cant see the food, so u dont know if its fresh. U cant pay with cash n the sign for it is scratched n hidden by their ccard machine. No brown rice. Bowl on the small side.
google avatar

Judy T.

Yelp
I do like the veggies! Picked up a very small bowl for about $13. It's a tiny shop for a tiny bowl. The shop is very clean, that was good. I appreciated the choices for toppings. The fish was fine. I like the sauce selection. The service was fine. There was such a teeny weeny amount of fish in the bowl and a small amount of toppings. Not my go to spot for poke. Oh well.
google avatar

Diane M.

Yelp
Consistently disappointed with every sweetfin I visit these days. The kale base was dry and unmarinated, and the fish quality is bad. Prices are almost double what they were a few years ago, and not worth it at all. The company has expanded to introduce chicken bowl offerings, likely knowing that this quality of poke will not survive.
google avatar

Julie D.

Yelp
The food here is excellent. Always fresh. We've only gotten delivery and I understand the place has little seating. Could eat this food once a week. The BYO bowl is excellent as well as some of their seasonal specials. Even the poke burrito is fresh and different.
google avatar

Teresa R.

Yelp
Don't order online for delivery. THEY NEVER GET IT FULLY RIGHT. They always forget my sauces for my bowl. Last time I ordered I had to drive to the store because they forgot the sauces. How can you expect us to eat PLAIN RAW FISH??? Come on people. The sauces are extremely important!! This time however they forgot all the extra toppings that I PAID EXTRA for. I ordered the truffle yuzu bowl and there is absolutely no truffle sauce and it's missing the other sauce that comes on it as well. Looks like I'm getting in my car to drive to the store AGAIN to get my missing items. Last time this happened it was a young boy working. Please hire people who actually pay attention to detail and follow the orders that are clearly typed out for them. He clearly doesn't know the recipes. You guys charge way too much for these bowls for them to arrive incomplete, missing crucial and expensive add ons. I won't be ordering from here again. Thanks for driving customers away. It's a shame because I actually do really love the food from here... When they get it right. Also, your text message customer service doesn't work. This is the second time I've initiated the text message, customer service convo, and I've gotten NO TEXT from you guys. It's extremely irritating to not be able to call the store and speak to an actual person as well. Your customer service is terrible

Marilyn G.

Yelp
Love this place, but they are Soooo unorganized and their ordering system is a joke. They charged me 6 times , when I ordered1 bowl and then said they weren't delivering. Why take a delivery order if you have no one to deliver? And REALLY charge me 6 times. Still waiting for my money back. No food was made for me.

Ryan O.

Yelp
Like most other QSR franchises on AK, it appears they spend too much on rent because the quality of the food has gone way downhill. I would rate the Spicy Poke bowl a solid C-. No flavor. In a 50/50 kelp noodle/bamboo rice bowl, it was 90% clumped rice. They also didn't include the Krab salad that we paid for. Both kids bowls had approximately 5 pieces of fish and lacked any kind of flavor. Such a disappointment because I used to LOVE Sweetfjn.
google avatar

Abou K.

Yelp
A nice place for a stop in the middle of an abbot kinney day. Okay food at a decent price point. As someone who loves poke I was quite disappointed in the quality of the fish here. The flavor of everything else in the bowl is great, however the fish taste of a lower quality, perhaps even old. Okay if you're looking a quick stop in abbot kinney in between shopping. But if you have more time, would rec finding another restaurant in the area. Oh...and the price is definitely not worth the portion of the quality.
google avatar

Matthew H.

Yelp
Ordered the Salmon Burrito, there were only 4 pieces of salmon in the burrito, 3 pieces in one half and 1 piece in the other (picture attached). I know it was $12, I was expecting a little more salmon, taste was eh, the chili oil helped a ton.
google avatar

Tay L.

Yelp
Great poke! Very fresh and so many different options. I made my own bowl and the staff was very helpful. I am always so indecisive when ordering so they gave me great recommendations. I got cauliflower rice base because I didn't want rice and it was so great!
google avatar

Michelle S.

Yelp
Food is great and fresh. If it was solely based on food I'd rate SF 5 stars. We order ahead to pickup which saves a lot of frustration and wait time. Staff is not the most welcoming which always throws me off considering we come here multiple times a week. Couple chairs for seating otherwise you have to take it home. Also parking can be difficult as it's right on Abbot Kinney.
google avatar

Judy S.

Yelp
Service was pretty OK. But the food is not good - fish wasn't fresh, it was essentially just fish + avo + cucumber, and it was dry AF. Was not really authentic poke bowl in terms of toppings, seasoning, flavors. It's a very California take to the poke bowl...
google avatar

Valerie D.

Yelp
So Yum! Gochujang Salmon Poke Bowl was savory and garlicky. Mango Albacore Bowl was light and flavorful. Both amazing in their own unique way. The bowls were substantial and the attention to detail and to quality ingredients notable. Employees went above and beyond to assist us as first time customers. Charming self-dining and people watching to top off our meal. New favorite to add to rotation.
google avatar

Alla L.

Yelp
Excellent! I really enjoyed my late lunch here and thought the choices were great. I opted to build my own bowl. I did kelp noodle slaw as my base and salmon as protein. You get 5 complementary toppings and premium topping like avocado was extra $1. I did mango, edamame, sprouts, seaweed salad and radish. Picked a miso sauce that was really tasty. Bowl looked really pretty... but more importantly tasted really good. They add crispy onion and garlic too. My husband went for spicy tuna pre designed bowl and you can add 5 more topping to that too. Great options. Great location. Friendly staff... I'll be back!
google avatar

Tina B.

Yelp
Due to COVID 19, we ordered through Postmates for 2 dishes. Although it stated that the poke bowls will be ready in 20 mins, they were ready in 10 mins. I got gochujang Salmon with kale salad and it was sooo delicious! Highly recommend it.
google avatar

Emilia F.

Yelp
1 star because the food is pretty good. Deducting 4 stars because customer service is terrible and usually they screw up your order. It's not cheap, so when you order something and you're paying for extra fish or extra toppings, you should get it. I've been 4 times (returning only because I love the bowls and trying to give the benefit of the doubt) and 2 of the 4 times they jipped us on fish and the toppings we paid for. It's about a $15-$18 bowl and to not get what you ask for is a huge disappointment. They are very dismissive and do not give you attention as you're placing your order as if they have some thing more important they need to be doing. Sadly I don't want to return. Anyone know any other poke bowl spots in the area to recommend?
google avatar

Jasmine F.

Yelp
Great place, loved it . Fast and efficient . Nice service and nice quality . I surely recommend
google avatar

Laura S.

Yelp
I tripped and fell wanting to ask the new poke burrito. Dislocated my arm and was on the floor about ten minutes and nobody cared. I asked for a bathroom because of the intense pain and was asked to go somewhere else. I'm a local, been here 2 decades and this is how you treat me? Lost just not one client, all my friends and fam also.

Yelp
Recommendation: The Blais Bowl Seasonal! This place is awesome! Great location and super easy to get to. There is plenty of street parking and cute neighborhood to check out. This is a fast casual place with limited seating. They have a couple spots outside. They have cups and free water to drink. Their prices seem normal. I got a specialty bowl for $14 which is about what I would expect to pay. Their ingredients were fresh and I liked that they have seasonal options. My specific bowl was a great combination or sweet from the fruit, fresh fish, and salty from some of the other toppings. I went right at noon and they didn't have a terribly long line either.
google avatar

Nick A.

Yelp
The eating opportunities on Abbot Kinney are expensive, slim and mediocre with the exception of just a few locales. I was really hungry the other night and didn't feel like pizza or fast food so I strolled into Sweetfin Poke. The place was empty and I like the set-up inside where they have the fountain service outside. The service is okay and the poke bowl was pretty good (it was mushrooms and vegetables and tuna). The order was to go and the entire presentation was fresh and I think the total bill was like $15. I would go back again and would recommend, but I was not crazy about the experience. The whole POKE thing seems to be big in Venice and sushi venues and it is an acquired taste of sorts. But the food offerings along AK definitely need to improve.
google avatar

Michelle N.

Yelp
The food is light & delicious definitely a good healthy option on Abbot Kinney! Thank you again Will for the great service
google avatar

Rachel K.

Yelp
If you've never tried poke, please do not come here for poke and think that you've given it a fair shot. This poke place is very whitewashed and some of the options are so weird. The bamboo rice when I went was so terrible in flavor and mushy in texture. Also, asparagus, carrots, jicama, and kale on poke??? Why?? This place feels like a Whole Foods meets Poke and, while I love Whole Foods, those are two things that just shouldn't go together.
google avatar

Opal D.

Yelp
"The fish quality was not that great and the fried onions were stale. Edamame was too overpowering and the bamboo rice, DON'T GET IT. Why don't they have normal rice?"

Cait S.

Yelp
$10.80 for a ¼ cup of rice and a tiny portion of cold eggplant. For $10.80. Ok maybe this portion would fill 1 measuring cup. Maybe. This is the bowl before a bite. $10.80 for a bland bowl of nuthin.
google avatar

Bec R.

Yelp
Love this poke place ! Always a favorite they have such a bit variety of toppings and delicious oils / dressings to add flavor to your fish . Pictured is a to go protein style tuna bowl with radish, cucumber , jicama , chille oil , toasted coconut , ginger , kale and miso shoyu dressing .
google avatar

Karin K.

Yelp
Officially my favorite sweetfin spot! And also the closest one. Today I walked past and was super excited by their new seasonal jazzy bowl. Shout out to David who was super patient, kind, and being tech support for all the customers coming in all while making the food and running the shop. Apparently the register wasn't able to take credit cards, but he was able to really help the customers with the issue. Food as usual is always phenomenal! I got the salmon & albacore with the jazzy bowl, with a good kick to it. I gotta say- it was spicier than j thought! Overall, it was good but I'm always a fan of the yuzu salmon!
google avatar

Karen X.

Yelp
Came here a couple of months ago with some friends. Ingredients taste super fresh! But the bowls are a little overpriced to me--I got a small build-your-own tofu bowl for $14. I had it with the forbidden rice, which was really tasty, tofu, kale, orange, mango, carrots, cucumber, and jicama. Even though it was a small bowl, it was surprisingly filling and worth it despite being somewhat expensive. The place also had nice, although limited, outdoor seating.
google avatar

Clarence L.

Yelp
Came here looking for a quick bite around Venice and found this place. Heard some good things on Yelp about it, and decided to try some of the recommended bowls on the menu - specifically the Mango Albacore bowl. One thing that was a little bit annoying from the start (though not included in my rating) was that it wasn't clear on the menu how much more extra add-ons would cost. They're $0.50 each after the complimentary ones. Food-wise it was pretty standard poke fare, though the additional mango was pretty nice. I didn't feel like they had enough of the actual poke in the bowl, though the other toppings were pretty generous. In terms of service, I was the only person there and was served pretty quickly and accurately. I probably wouldn't go back again, but it's not a bad place if you're just looking for something to just grab and run with.
google avatar

Megan R.

Yelp
Fun spot for a pre or post-beach bite! I'm a big fan of Sweetfin's Santa Monica location and recently gave their Venice shop a try as well. While much smaller, this location fits riiiiight in on Abbot Kinney with it's colorful, heathy feel and higher price tags in the name of ~vibes~. There's very little seating here aside from a couple small tables on the sidewalk out front, so plan on taking your lunch for a stroll, back to work, or oceanside! As for food, you can't really go wrong here. Sweetfin is my favorite poke in LA (and probably the world) for their super fresh fish and fun toppings. The spicy tuna bowl is my go-to for when I don't have the mental capacity to BYO, and I adore the wasabi coconut as a topping. Also, don't sleep on the taro chips! They're the perfect vehicle for getting those yummy morsels of poke from your bowl to your mouth. Parking on Abbot Kinney is always a big ol' deal, so either plan to park a ways away and walk or take a scooter, skateboard, or bike (which is more Venice-y, anyway). Prices are slightly higher than regular poke places, but when we're talking raw fish, that's fine by me. I'll be back for a beach day sooooon!
google avatar

Michelle I.

Yelp
Delicious! I love the customizations after Sweetfin and they have the best salad base (Citrus Kale) for poke around. I like to get mine with Chile oil, habaneros, Japanese eggplant, and asparagus ($1 premium item). The small is surprisingly large and filling. It's definitely worth signing up for the free membership. You get points every time you order and occasionally get to cash in on a nice $5 discount. The parking here is street parking, so you'll have to hunt for a spot. But I've never had a problem finding one. Being Covid and all, it's Takeout only. But the website makes it easy to order and they give you a time estimate so you don't have to go in and wait until it's about ready.
google avatar

Anne F.

Yelp
I LOVE POKÉ. I heard so many good things about Sweetfin so I just had to see for myself. The poké was great and I love the different rices they use, because I hadn't been to a poké place that did those. I got a kid's size because I was at the end of my rope trying as many cool eateries in LA in one day by then. I'd come back, their fish is evidently fresh!
google avatar

Kristina G.

Yelp
I haven't been inside this new spot yet but I can't wait to go! I ordered a poke bowl yesterday for delivery at work---it was delicious! I got the spicy tuna poke bowl with the bamboo rice and kale in a size small. I was worried the large bowl would be too big but the small bowl admittedly was very tiny for the price. I wish there was a medium size bowl for the most bang for your buck. Taste wise the bowl was amazing! The spicy tuna tasted super fresh and I loved the bamboo rice consistency with the other ingredients like avocado and kale. One tiny adjustment for next time would be to ask for light sauce on top as the sauce felt like it was drenching everything else in the bowl. Even though there was a lot of sauce it was still quite tasty. I'd love to actually dine in at this location to get the full experience.
google avatar

Sydney M.

Yelp
I'm always craving poke & was super excited to stumble across the Sweetfin on Abbot Kinney. However, I wish I could say that this place lived up to my expectations. Just personal preference, but I really like seeing the ingredient options & having my bowl built in front of me. I like to pick the fish & ingredients that look the freshest. At Sweetfin, you look at a menu and order at the register, and someone in the back prepares your meal. The small size was perfect to tide my appetite over, but was a little pricey for what it was ($9.40 for a small scoop of salmon). I will say that the salmon was really high quality, and it didn't cost extra to add seaweed salad. The extra patio seating in the back was a good place to escape the bustle from the main street. Overall it was a good stop, just not one of my favorite places for poke.
google avatar

Nicole H.

Yelp
I definitely, definitely, DEFINITELY recommend coming here for poke! My friend and I stopped by after spending some time by Venice Beach and I'm obsessed with this place. I feel like a lot of poke places don't have a lot of options (or always run out of ingredients) but I actually had trouble trying to decide what to get here! My friend and I ended up ordering a large Gochujang Salmon and a large Sriracha Tuna and I'm in love. I definitely plan on coming back when I'm in LA again!
google avatar

Sung L.

Yelp
First time ordering. Ordered the Sweet box and the Lychee Ginger Lemonade. They failed to deliver the Lychee Ginger Lemonade.
google avatar

Scott J.

Yelp
You know it's good when you're still thinking about it days later. It was my first time trying out this chain of poke shops and I loved it! They have favorite options on the board, or you can get creative and create your own bowl. I had asked the cashier what the best seller was and she stated the Spicy Tuna Bowl, which I ended up ordering. The fish quality was great, the toppings fresh, and the cashier friendly. Can't wait to go back and try some other menu items.
google avatar

Kimmy 5.

Yelp
Stopped by yesterday because I was craving some poke and found them on Yelp with great reviews. The staff was friendly and I was greeted promptly upon entering. You have a choice to order off the menu or build your own bowl. I chose the latter and it's an easy process to select your protein of choice - including veggie tofu, sauces and all the fixings. My bowl was delicious. Very fresh and appetizing. I'll definitely stop by if I'm ever in the area. Parking could be a bit of an issue as it's in a busy area but I went on Sunday afternoon so I had no issues but just an FYI.
google avatar

Annika M.

Yelp
I have been to Sweetfin multiple times and love their poké! This was my first visit to their Venice location. At most poké places, you are able to see the ingredients to choose what you like - at this spot, you have to make your bowl solely based on the menu, which can make it a bit difficult. For being in a small spot on Abbot Kinney, they maximized their space well with both seating in the front and with a small back patio. The patio did not seem to have been cleaned in a while, but might be understandable with the rainfall the past few days.

Kai Y.

Yelp
Gave me and my boy food poisoning (went down ok but came out terrible). Overall mid, but not worth the risk
google avatar

Victoria L.

Yelp
Came here all the way from Florida and found them via Yelp so I hope to extend that pleasure! The service, the food and, the ambience was so fun. I'm a sucker for saving the planet and I loved that their food serving was in compostable packaging . Never had and this is a great place to start, if you haven't had it either the best way I can describe it is a deconstructed sushi. Enjoy!

Yelp
I believe her name was Kaitlin (sp?), the only one who appeared to be working this shift, was SO KIND. When I arrived, I didn't realize I had to order a head of time, but she was super nice and let me know she would be happy to help as I placed my order on my phone. She assured me it wouldn't take long for her to make once I placed the order. Then, while I was entering my order, a man walked in and made a fuss about not being able to order with her right then. He made such a fuss, that she felt compelled to help him. She turned to me and offered to help me too, but I knew she was in an uncomfortable spot, and I told her she didn't need to worry about me. I finished my order-for-pick-up online but somehow, my order was placed for a different location! Kaitlin was so kind, she helped me get my order processed at the right store. She was thoughtful, helpful and fast and I definitely will be back because the food was amazing, too!

Yelp
Interesting place.. Concept seems genuine and fun but compared to all other poke places this has to fall at the bottom of the list- the fish was so bland and similar (salmon and yellowfin tuna) that I couldn't even tell between the two? Which was weird. It was all a big mushed blend together. I ordered a large and the bowl was smaller than my hand... pretty surprised how little you get for the price as well, felt like being ripped off a bit especially since the flavors were absent. The toppings weren't particularly fresh and there was barely any sauce in the bowl. I think they have a lot of work to do to stay competitive...
google avatar

Kendra B.

Yelp
Just grabbed a take out. The price for the "large" seemed a bit much since they don't fill it up to the top... But what really turned me off, they should be counting their lucky stars that I wasn't working for the health Dept! They had their sliding door open and I mean A LOT, whole school of them- FLIES!!!! They were inside swarming all over the food!!! Gross!!!! Just for this, I will NOT be coming back! Even the other 2 ladies in the restaurant were remarking how gross it was to have so many flies in a food establishment! The food is pretty good.., but, I can't really finish due to wondering if the flies landed on my Poké bowl!

HongTian L.

Yelp
The clerk service attitude is very poor, people who come after me are gone My order has not been completed, will not come again
