Where To Eat And Drink In Foggy Bottom - Washington DC - The Infatuation

"Go to Sweetgreen to feel better about your weekend food and alcohol binge. If you’re coming at peak times, definitely order ahead using their app. It’ll save you both time and the embarrassment of uttering, “The Beets Don’t Kale My Vibe, please” - but your dressing will come on the side." - sandra rubinchik, omnia saed

My salad smelled. I then found a bug in my food. When I went back to report the issue there was no desire to figure out what was contaminated. I indicated that I figured the kale was sour, I was told that wasn’t possible: I asked them to smell the salad because it would be clear it was stale. I was told the issue was “odd”. I got a refund, but was told I’d have to come back to the store if the refund didn’t come through. I won’t be returning for food. And I hope to see my refund in a reasonable time.

Found sweetgreen and stood in line for the Guacamole Greens salad. The line went really quickly and the service was fast and friendly. The salad itself while it had nice ingredients and came with a piece of bread, was rather flavourless. I cannot say I will be rushing back to try a different option, as there are other places I’ve found that are nicer.

I ordered from Sweetgreen for the first time after seeing ads for the Korean BBQ salad. While I was excited to try it, I was pretty disappointed overall. With delivery fees, my total came to nearly $30—which is fine if the experience matches the price. Unfortunately, my order arrived without any kind of seal on the salad or the delivery bag. In today’s delivery climate, sealed packaging is a basic standard for food safety and peace of mind. It made me very uneasy wondering what could’ve happened during transit. It made me so uncomfortable that I couldn’t bring myself to eat the salad. I won’t be reordering for this reason. It’s a shame because the salad looked amazing but, the lack of care in delivery is a dealbreaker for me.

Google
The salad that I ordered was great, it was a huge portion and the veggies were really good quality, the chicken as well. I found nice that they asked how much vinaigrette you'd like, since it's adaptable to your personal taste. There are also some great options for vegetarians. Would definitely come back. It is definitely not cheap but still a great meal and experience.

Google
The team at Penn Quarter is always so pleasant! Katie takes care of all her customers and always has such a positive attitude. My coworkers and I will continue to come back because of the great service we receive here!

Google
clean restaurant, friendly and understanding staff (helped a lot with my allergies). seemed relatively free of cross contamination. had a lot of options and everything my friends and I got tasted amazing!

Google
This location is consistently disappointing. Several times the rice has been undercooked and crunchy and the chicken is not cooked well. Despite there being not a huge line or many patrons, there is only ever one staff member doing in person and mobile orders creating delays and long wait times. I am a loyal patron of both the Mount Vernon and Foggy Bottom locations and have not experienced these issues there.

Google
Avocado Chicken salad. Good combination of ingredients. Healthy, fresh, filling. Only issue: bread dry as heck. But that wouldn't change my rating.

Yelp
My favorite healthy salad from here is called the Guacame Green. It inudes grilled chicken, tomatoes, avocado slices, diced onions, and crushed tortilla chips. The service was aweso.e and I was the very first custo.er this morning. A tally thete were two emoyees who were taking g theor break early and eating a salad as well. Their salads are made fresh every morning and you can taste the freshness. The store itself is clean and up to date, however I took my order to go.

Yelp
i really enjoyed the custom salad! went on a lunch break and the line moved fast so no wait :) the team was incredibly nice!

Yelp
A little too heavy on the dressing, more than usual. This location seems to do very well in the area, especially at noon! THE RENEÉ RAPP BOWL - only 275 calories which was perfect because I was on a cut. It consists of roasted tofu, cucumbers, red onions, shredded cabbage, spicy broccoli, tomatoes, cilantro, spring mix and their spicy cashew dressing.

Yelp
If you plan ahead and order your salad like 20 mins before you want lunch, this place is great! The salads and bowls are always delicious and on the rare occurrence they've run out of something the employees check with you before making a substitution. Given how busy this place is I think they do a pretty good job. But at the same time... I will never just walk in and order. You only make that mistake once.

Yelp
Beware of the lunch time rush because this location is obviously the it girl. About 4 tables of seating outdoors and about 8 chairs at their loop bar table inside. Thankfully we had time to go over the menu while waiting in line, and they have quite a variety of items plus speciality salads. I opted for one of the pre made salads with a few tweaks. I appreciate the patience the employees have -- have the fittest of the fit to handle the rush! No huffs or puffs when picking out what you want. I do wish they had their items labeled better though. A lot of customers pointing and leaning over the shield to pick what they wanted. "That one, no that one..no the other one". Bread was a waste, otherwise I really enjoyed this meal! The chicken was really good but all ingredients tasted delicious.

Yelp
Giving 2 stars because the taste of the salad was good, but I'm disappointed in what I got for the price. I don't think it's worth it. I got the guacamole greens and paid extra for blackened chicken vs. roasted chicken. To my surprise, there were 5 little pieces of chicken in my salad. I had to count because I was so shocked! I probably won't be back.

Yelp
Went in, ordered a hot honey chicken protein plate. One of the elements is roasted sweet potato. I got 4 tiny pieces. Maybe 3/4 inch cubes. It seemed really skimpy, so I asked if i could have a couple more cubes. I was told that would be an extra $2!!! Really? For about 6 cents worth of potato they have lost a customer. I would have rather had less chicken and more veg. Ugh. Bad customer relations if you ask me.

Yelp
First time trying this chain. Similar to Subway but for salads. Fresh ingredients, lots of choices and good service. I had a seasonal bbq chicken salad. To much dressing for me, next time I'll get the dressing on the side to go. No more expensive than Chipotle.

Yelp
Was never a huge SG fan, but I recently had a $7 credit and that was my main incentive for ordering from here. I think also there aren't as conveniently located as Chop't so I just haven't tried SG as much. I downloaded the app and placed an order ahead of time for the buffalo chicken salad. I arrived and my lunch was ready for pickup. I went back to my office to enjoy my healthy meal. It was ok. I was expecting more. Something was missing. I ended up feeling like it wasn't really worth it for the price (although I didn't pay full price). It's too much out of the way for me to come back. I'm more of a Chop't person.

Yelp
Giving three stars, instead of 2, because the staff is friendly. I was excited to visit this location because it's a lot closer to my job than the city vista location. Unfortunately I am trading distance for quality of salad. My go to Kale Caesar salad is usually short of something here. Today, I went back to the location to notify them that my salad was missing bread. After 3 more unsuccessful remake attempts (for one reason after another), I was able to receive exactly what I paid for. I am hoping with time the quality gets better.

Yelp
Horrible customer service!! This store begins to close at 7:30 pm. They begin to clean up and break down equipment, all while fulfilling orders. Very unsanitary practice, btw. I ordered 2 salads, one with fish via the app. I'm aware that the fish is made to order; however when i arrived, I was told they were 'out'. I knew this wasn't the case, but didn't feel like arguing so I requested a refund. I was flippantly told to call back tomorrow to get a refund, I asked why i had to do the leg work to get a refund when the store didn't honor their obligation. She then voided the order and told me the refund would process 2-3 days. This was not the case and I had to spend 30 minutes on the phone with LevelUp and texting SweetGreen to obtain a refund. WORST SWEETGREEN IN DC!! Go to another location!

Yelp
The food is always good but the service is touch and go. Whenever I come in it's always a gathering of employees at the front of the restaurant; talking and none of them ever greet you upon entering. They take their time when someone wants to order even though it's always like 8 employees standing around seemingly doing nothing!! This location is close to my job so it's convenient but I don't understand why the service is bad with it always being so many people working and not a lot of customers.

Yelp
I love SGs! This location is in my building. The staff was so friendly when I was pregnant and now when they see me with my 2-year-old. It was the best day ever when I found out my building was getting a SGs!

Yelp
As opposed to some other salad grab and go places I've experienced in the Penn Quarter area, this shop was busy, but fast! I was in and out in under five minutes with a fresh salad in hand. It is a little hard to hear the salad slingers (and sometimes just hard to tell if they are barking orders to colleagues or asking you if your want light, medium, or heavy dressing), but it's not ear-shatteringly loud.

Yelp
The food is always great. I order ahead and it's a decent wait considering the lunch rush. The establishment is clean and accommodating for those who like to eat in.

Yelp
What I like about this Sweetgreen: *Healthy, delicious food *Friendly staff *Easy to order in advance on my phone - AND crucially - they get the orders exactly right *Reasonable prices What more can you ask for? I'm very glad they moved into this location!

Yelp
I had the chicken pesto parm salad, and my friend had the shroomami bowl at their soft opening. Both were great, consistent with their other locations! It was nice seeing how well the team was working together and the team leader was giving them encouragement and constructive feedback. Looking forward to returning!

Yelp
Love this place. Always fresh and customer service is good. I eat here at least two to three times a week. Favorite is the Kale Caesar.
google avatar

Dee C.

Yelp
Fresh made to order salads are always great you can create your own salad and load it with fresh veggies . I just wish they wouldn't include and chop the stalks of the broccoli and kale ... the stalks should be discarded. But other than that I love this place. The tofu and cashew dressing is so yummy

Yelp
This is one of those times where one experience ruins your previous ones. Wanted to do something nice for my bf and order him lunch to be delivered to work (which was ONE block away). An hour after ordering we still hadn't gotten any update. We called this Sweetgreen, all for them to say "we don't have anything to do with delivery" and hang up. I tried to call again and no answer. While I understand GrubHub is not operated by Sweetgreen, a simple update on the order or to let me know if they even got the order to begin with would've sufficed. Whoever was working/answered the phone around 1pm on Oct 16, you may want to work on your customer service skills. When the order finally did arrive an hour and 20 minutes into this, it was cold and gross. So much for "warm bowl". Hopefully this location can get it together. Super disappointed by a place I liked.

Yelp
I went for the soft opening today and there was a hair in my harvest bowl. Disgusting. SG needs to provide hairnets for its employees and not "trendy" hats. This was a year plus after my avoidance of SG due to an incident where my girlfriend and I found a worm in her salad. After this second occurrence, I can't tell if the company has bad QA or simply doesn't care. Safe to say I won't be returning to this location or any, for that matter. Try harder.

Orlando M.

Yelp
So light and not for a person who is hungry for lunch, just hungry for a snack (the bowl itself seems to weigh more than the actual food) and not delicious. Online order: It takes them at least 20 minutes to prepare a salad (Chopt is way quicker) and they say they'll remove and destroy it if you don't pick it up after 30 minutes.
google avatar

Meri L.

Yelp
Unfortunately for this sweetgreen, there are much better sweetgreens around the area. Ordered warm bowl, and gave me one scoop of quinoa and a tiny scoop of chicken. Where's the warm part of this bowl? Also, they use plastic wrap as lids which is super annoying. Lots of better places to eat around here at a $12 price point.

Yelp
I am so happy that there's finally a sweetgreen by my office! I usually order online and take my salad back to my desk, and it's always ready when I show up. The store is bright and clean. There isn't much seating, but usually two people can sit together if they want to eat there. A welcome addition to Penn Quarter; great spot to grab a healthy lunch.

Yelp
There was a hair in my bowl. Pretty gross and disappointing for a salad place I heard a lot of good things about.

Evan A.

Yelp
Corey w is stupid and is obviously lying because everyone else has had a positive experience except him. Sweet green is a very good establishment

Zahra D.

Yelp
I decided to try this sweet green because it was a new location and closer to my job. I asked for my usual custom harvest bowl, without apples or almonds. They proceeded to tell me they had no sweet potatoes or spicy broccoli to replace. I asked to add Brussels sprouts, and instead of accommodating me, they charged me, even after I said something. I'm now eating my bowl, and the rice is hard! Overall, I was very underwhelmed and dissatisfied with the service. Won't be going back to this location again.

Jennifer L.

Yelp
Disappointing. For a brand like Sweetgreen and for a $13 salad, I expected better. There were about 6 employees just standing around and no other customers in the store. Nobody greeted me when I walked in and I got the vibe that my presence was an inconvenience to the woman who assembled my salad. I won't even get into some of the questionable practices that I witnessed regarding hygiene. I guess I'll have to find another salad spot in the neighborhood.

Annabelle F.

Yelp
I love sweetgreen! Especially their kale salad. When I found out there was a discount today, I hopped on it! Unfortunately I had one of the most unfriendly associates. It was clear she did not want to be working there. My bowl was only 75% full but she went wayyy too heavy on the dressing. This caused the salad to be overly salty and inedible. When I asked for bread, she rudely said "we are out". Then walked away. This was the worst salad I've had in my life and I would NEVER recommend any one going here to risk their health during a pandemic, even if they have a one-day special. I regret going.

Liz H.

Yelp
This location consistently skimps on all ingredients. You end up getting half a bowl with barely anything other than greens.

Sanntay T.

Yelp
Glad that there is a new location close to where I work. The salad was its usual deliciousness, but the atmosphere leaves a lot to be desired. This location is tiny, with about 5 chairs at the window bar for indoor dining. It was pretty busy, and a bit too noisy to have a conversation over lunch. The team worked well together and the restroom was in good shape. Not sure I'll be back.

don m.

Yelp
I liked this location since it is convenient and quick. This restaurant is limited to about four-five stools in the front of the restaurant, which is much less seating than other locations, but the food is consistently good. The seating does not support a person to pull out the phone and check emails, no place to put your bag, but if you need to eat and run, this place works great.

Leigh F.

Yelp
This location is super busy, super chaotic, and super unorganized! I ordered online, and was given a pick-up time for 45 min later (other online orders are generally ready much faster than that). Upon arrival, I couldn't even get into the pick-up door because so many others were waiting for pick-up orders to be ready. I waited AN ADDITIONAL 20 minutes before they noticed that I had been waiting for a long time and asked me my name. They then proceeded to tell me they were out of kale (a key ingredient in many salads these days!), and offered romaine. I accepted - and then waited another 10 minutes before they called my name, only to tell me that they couldn't pre-mix my salad BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T HAVE TONGS! Finally, they once again called my name to tell me that they were out of hot sauce, another ingredient in my salad. Once I finally got my salad and got back to my desk, I found a container with ONE TEASPOON of the advertised dressing. There are too many other fast, healthy options in Penn Quarter to give this one another try. Sweetgreen, you can do better than this!
