18 Best Restaurants on the Outer Banks | Eater Carolinas

"Swells’a is a brewery, yes, but it’s also a community space, a fundraising venue, and the Outer Banks’s living room. Open year-round, go to Swells’a on any given evening there will be longtime neighbors mingling with tourists. Perhaps there will be live music, perhaps there will be a small market of local artisans, or perhaps (like on a summer evening last year) there will be a talk about surf safety featuring some of the sport’s most accomplished athletes. Oh, and the beer is great too — heavy on easy-sipping ales, lagers, and IPAs that are perfect for the beach." - Matt Lardie

The Best Restaurants In The Outer Banks, North Carolina

"Swells’a Brewing has just about everything you could possibly want in a seaside brewery. You’ll spot local surfers who stop by for weeknight drinks, friendly puppies running around everywhere, and you can even catch a slight view of the ocean from the outdoor deck or second-story seating area. The rotating tap list also features a wide variety of beers, but just about everything on the menu tastes great while playing cornhole on the brewery’s lawn or after enjoying a full day of water-based activities. Staff was friendly and helpful. Outdoor seating was awesome and we were lucky enough to stop in when they were having music by Bird Dog. Very talented couple of musicians! Stay Afloat fruited sour was amazing! I wasn't sure how I'd feel about the coconut but it was perfect. I would definitely come again!

Loved the Chill Spot option from our lighter flight choices. The seltzer slushie was also so refreshing on the 100 degree day! Super friendly staff and everyone visiting there seemed to feel at home and happy!

Got a flight to taste a few beers. None of them blew me away, but none of them were bad either. Bartender is nice. We enjoyed sitting out on the deck upstairs. Plenty of parking. Plenty of i door and outdoor seating. You can bring your own food. Overall a nice pick to grab a few drinks and bring a lunch.

Average beers at best and not welcoming service. This was a disappointment as we heard this was a great spot. We got a flight and of the 8 beers one was something I’d drink again. The Grapes of Wright was it, the others were drinkable but not anything we’d want to take home. The staff behind the bar seemed annoyed we were there and there really wasn’t any atmosphere for a brewery.

This brewery is awesome! The beers are delicious, the place has such a cool vibe and the entirety of the space, indoor and out, is dog friendly. There are bowls of water outside for your furry friends and the outside area has a latching gate to keep them safely inside. The fruited sweltzer, Gulls gone wild, no porpoise and stay afloat (slushy, available draft as well) were what we tried and thoroughly enjoyed. Worthwhile stop for a drink!

Visitors and locals be aware of the individual with long hair to the right of the picture. I ordered my first drink from him, duck diver lager. I paid by using their little hand held device known as “Handheld Point of sale”. Once I scanned my visa debit card on the device, he faces the device towards him, hit a few items on the device and said ok you’re good to go. I found that weird, because normally you place a tip and signature before final pay. I immediately checked my bank account and sure enough, he gave hisself a $10 tip. The business does not have their prices anywhere on the menu or back walls, so when I went to order a second beer for the birthday girl and I, I went to the other bartender in the picture, sure enough, the 13oz duck diver lager beer was only $6 and some change. One bad apple will ruin that company. If he’s ripping off your customers can you imagine what he’s doing behind doors to your business..??

Love to see Local Craft Beer in the OBX and Swells'a makes some good beer. Gulls Gone Wild is a great Hazy and stands on it own. The Beertender was helpful but his personality was a dry as a popcorn fart.

Perfect brewery spot. The beer is good, the Jimmy Buffet Hazy Ipa is award winning. Great spot to relax with great beer and friends. Great location too
