"This is the restaurant and bar attached to the pool at the Downright, a hotel that looks like Wes Anderson took a stab at renovating the former Sheraton near I-35 and 10th Street. The food is nothing special, but the drinks are perfectly fine, and it’s an easy walk to nearly every music venue nearby (Moody included). It’s also very cute inside, in case you’re already dressed up and want to snag some pics. 20 minutes on foot, 5 minutes by car" - nicolai mccrary
"Housed at a renovated Sheraton property, this transformed 1980s hotel pool is an Instagram-ready, high-energy social club that blends dining, cocktails and swimming into a colorful, retro playground. The centerpiece is a restaurant built into the former pool (diners can eat at the bottom with a window looking into the active outdoor pool), while the outdoor deck features bright pinks and blues, neon signage, a poolside ball pit and floaties for a playful vibe. The menu skews Mediterranean with fresh dips, crudos and brick-oven pizzas (the zucchini and burrata pie is a standout), plus shareable desserts like a “mega” banana split. Cocktails lean fruity and citrusy — for example, the Dusk ’Til Don (chamomile-infused tequila with honeydew cordial and citrus) and several frozen options including an Aperol slushie — and DJs spin on weekends with seasonal parties keeping the energy lively. Dining reservations include pool access when capacity allows (passes are also available via Resort Pass); lounge chairs are first-come. The restaurant closes earlier than the bar, which stays open later for a night-owl crowd." - Darcie Duttweiler
"Swim Club’s bright, beachy colors already feel like a restaurant that’s playing dress-up, but for the second half of December they’re changing the theme from Miami Vice to Apres Swim, a winter-inspired bar with cocktails and bites. They’ll also have a cookie decorating station, a disco ornament “Sip-N-Paint,” and holiday movies on the lawn. When: December 15 - December 30" - nicolai mccrary
"As part of the Sheraton’s transformation into Downright Austin, this hotel pool bar — led by Nickel City co-owner Travis Tober — opened with open-to-the-public access for swimming (!!!), food, and drinks in a space that leans Miami Vice/1980s in aesthetic. The overall project also includes a disco lounge called Randy’s Radio Room planned for later and an outdoor Lawn at Swim Club." - Nadia Chaudhury
"In a space that lived a former life as a Sheraton hotel pool near 10th Street and I-35, Swim Club is a restaurant, bar, and swimming pool from some of the people behind Nickel City. The menu features classic pool-friendly foods like pizza, burgers, and wings, plus beer, wine, and tropical cocktails. We recently visited Swim Club. Read our thoughts here. " - nicolai mccrary
