"Not a day goes by that we don’t get asked, “Which way to the Fish Market?” The Sydney Fish Market puts Pyrmont on the map. It’s the reason that tourists come here, even though Pyrmont has a lot more to offer than fish! But it really is a great, chaotic, place. Whether you’re buying some fresh seafood for tonight’s dinner, or enjoying a picnic style lunch with a view, the Sydney Fish Market is definitely worth checking out… especially during Christmas time. Holy moly it’s mental!" - Thinkbone

Sydney Fish Market is a must-visit for seafood lovers! One of the best things about it is that you can buy fresh seafood and enjoy it right there on the spot. The variety of seafood was impressive, and everything tasted incredibly fresh. The atmosphere was lively, and it was great to see so many people enjoying their meals. If you’re in Sydney, this is definitely a place worth visiting!

Google
The Sydney Fish Markets, located in Pyrmont right next to the water, is an absolute must-visit for seafood lovers. With plenty of paid parking available, including 20 minutes of free parking, it's very convenient for those coming by car. The market itself is vibrant and bustling, offering an incredible selection of the freshest seafood at wholesale prices. I recently purchased some A-grade crabs, and I was thoroughly impressed by the amount of meat packed inside—definitely worth the price. Whether you're a local or a tourist, this spot is perfect for picking up top-quality seafood. The market is not only great for fresh produce but also has a lively atmosphere, making it a fun experience. If you're a seafood enthusiast, the Sydney Fish Markets should definitely be on your list!

Google
The Sydney Fish market is definitely a place to visit when in Sydney. Beautiful fresh seafood. I haven't been for years and even though the place looks exactly the same on the outside, the finesse of the offered bite sized mini meals has improved greatly. The usual charm of flocks of seagulls aiming to steal your food is still there with some pelicans around to admire. I think there could be a lot more that could be done for the premises look and feel that would attract a lot more visitors like they have done in Madrid markets for example. Overall a great culinary experience and cultural experience to have.

Google
A must visit place in Sydney if you love fresh seafood! This market offers you affordable fresh seafood at cheaper price compared to normal restaurants. Fresh oysters is a must try and don’t leave without trying their scallops and fresh shrimps. An open space with seating area is provided outside the market where you can enjoy your food. Just be careful with the seagulls, they snatch food! Always go early to get the best seafood.

Google
This place is amazing! It’s filled with seafood restaurants offering a wide range of prices and menus. You can find Asian, Japanese, Chinese, and Australian-style seafood, with options from budget-friendly to high-end. There are plenty of tables available for dining. However, parking can be a bit chaotic, and you need to watch out for seabirds that might try to steal your food. So, avoid feeding them and keep an eye on your meal!

💰 Price / Value for Money: Fair Mostly the same seafood offerings across a few stands. Small compared to fish markets in Japan. Tip: If freshness matters, check how the food is prepared before ordering. ✅ Would I Recommend? Depends - Good for a quick seafood meal with a large outdoor seating area. - Can be crowded and noisy inside. - Some food is pre-prepared and reheated, except for Takoyaki, which is made fresh. - Very dirty toilets. 🌍 Our Background: Adult tourists, first time in Australia. Visited on Sunday around 9 AM.

Google
When I eat seafood I am expecting the seafood to taste like seafood, with flavours enhancing it rather than overwhelming it. The oysters were alright but the mixed grill was overcooked and nothing tasted like seafood, just whatever the Marinate or cooking style was. For a lobster dish i expected the star to shine with a juicy and springy taste, but we just got an overcooked lobster based with whatever chilli sauce was used. I'd give it a lower rating but the oysters tasted pretty good. This was from the Fish Market Cafe, so go there for oysters but avoid the mixed grill.

Google
The best fish market I ever been to. The food is just amazingly fresh and delicious. $10 parking for the day is great for customers in that part of town. However I think the food prices are overpriced as the place more feels like a visitors’ attraction.

Yelp
One of the highlights of my trip. We took this meal to the next level with buying a bunch of live seafood and having them cook to order on the spot for us! Quality/Quantity - 5 ways to cook your live seafood! Some seafood can also be battered or crumbed, see photo. 15 sauces to choose from. 2 types of noodles to choose from. Live Lobster - $149 per Kg. Cooked to order. Live Female Mud Crab - $80 per Kg.Cooked to order. Live Bug - Cooked to order. Hong Kong style dry chili. Produce - Beautiful and fresh looking. Donut Sushi - Beautiful presentation, see picture. Taco Sushi - Not as good as the donut sushi. Sashimi - So FRESH! Oysters - Shucked in front of us, again so fresh. And of course, a few local beers to wash it all down! Also available - Smokehouse BBQ, butcher, dessert, ice cream, chocolate covered fruit, takoyaki, fresh sugar cane juice, etc. Atmosphere - 6 major seafood retailers. Cafes, restaurants (full service), bakery, butcher, deli, produce, tea bar, wine, drinks, etc. Wholesale auction available. Sydney seafood school, since 1989. Paid parking, plenty of spaces today on a Saturday! First 20 minutes free, then paid parking. Free parking for ADA packards/permits. See website. Cool bridge views, see picture. Events, see website. Open 7 days a week from 7am to 4pm. Service - Caters to both locals and tourists. A very competitive market as many vendors sell the same thing, so excellent service. Tours available. Price - Expensive, but WORTH it! Owner Comment - I will recommend you to everyone I know that loves fresh seafood!

Yelp
Of course this fish market is all over social media so we had to give it a try. We took an Uber over from the central business district which took about 10 minutes. It's a little tricky getting into the parking lot because of all the cars, etc. Once inside, we walked around and saw many food dolls/locations and some retail. Some of my family started at one end and I went towards the back where there's a green market. It's very crowded and overall I felt the food was similar from style to style. It all had the fried shrimp, fish, half lobsters, scallops, etc. it all looked the same. We did not cook our own food as I've read in some of the reviews. we thought it was pricey overall. The meal tasted OK but quite honestly felt like we were eating a big platter of fried foods. The sushi taco was packed with tons of rice. It's worth one visit, but we probably would not come back. We found a table in the back by the outdoor patio area again, lots of people we did not take an Uber back, but actually walked back towards the rocks area.

Yelp
A must visit expensive tourist attraction, you already know what you are getting yourself into. The Sydney Fish Market is a place I'd recommend to seafood lovers. Whether you just want to get some fresh sashimi, king crab, lobster or abalone, this place has you covered! The best part? Lots of places prep the food ready to eat on the spot. Do be warned though, it seems like many cover the actual flavors by just dumping endless amounts of cheese on top and torching it. It's definitely a choice. Despite the place being busy, the service is generally quite quick and while seating is limited, there is usually a quick turnaround. Ambience is what you'd expect from a fish market, just don't plan on staying here for more than a few. It's not that big and you'll quickly find yourself having covered the whole place in no time. Overall, while the food is mostly good (not amazing) and the prices are on the high end as you'd expect, it's probably still worth the visit for the experience. Just know that you're going into a tourist trap and set your expectations accordingly.

Yelp
I recently had the pleasure of visiting Sydney Fish Market, located just a short 10-minute ride from Sydney CBD, and I must say, it left a lasting impression on me. This bustling market is renowned for its incredible selection of fresh seafood, offering a plethora of options to tantalize any seafood lover's taste buds. One of the highlights of my visit was indulging in the exquisite oysters, accompanied by a variety of caviar options. The combination of the briny oysters and the delicate burst of flavors from the caviar was simply divine. Additionally, I couldn't resist trying the famous abalone in half shell, which was cooked to perfection, boasting a tender and succulent texture that left me craving for more. The king prawns at Sydney Fish Market were another standout. Their firm texture and sweet flavor were a testament to their freshness, and they were an absolute delight to savor. As we strolled around the market, we couldn't resist sampling various offerings from different stores, each providing a unique and delightful experience. The sashimi at Sydney Fish Market deserves a special mention. The ultra-fresh slices of local fish, such as kingfish, tuna, and salmon, were a treat for the senses. The quality and taste were unparalleled, showcasing the market's commitment to providing the finest seafood options to its patrons. Overall, my experience at Sydney Fish Market was nothing short of fantastic. The range and quality of seafood available were exceptional, and the vibrant atmosphere added to the overall enjoyment. Whether you're a seafood connoisseur or simply looking to satisfy your cravings, Sydney Fish Market is a must-visit destination that promises an unforgettable culinary adventure.

Yelp
The Sydney Fish Market is one of those must-have experiences for any visitor to Sydney. Many of the fishmongers offer to cook their fresh fare for onsite dining in the spacious food court. Great spot for fresh seafood that is relatively easy on the wallet, and interesting people watching.

Winnie L.

Yelp
Went there for later lunch (around 1:15 pm) and the place was busy. We left around 3 pm and the shops were cleaning up and getting ready to close. Good place to choose seafood but the prices were fairly high for some things. It is an iconic institution so a must visit for visitors. They are building a new fish market next door but now sure when it will be complete. It looks much larger than the current one.

Noanya S.

Yelp
Give me all of the seafood Visited around 8 am and got the opportunity to watch the vendors setup for the day. This is the 3rd largest fish market in the world and everything looked fresh. There are a few restaurants in the market offering cooked seafood or if you want it fresh I.e. a dozen oysters already shucked or some sashimi you can go to one of the fresh counters. The marker is only open until 4 pm but if you enjoy ultra fresh local seafood, you must visit

Susan B.

Yelp
Freshest fish in the land. Will be even better once the upgrade is completed, right now the parking and construction is a bit of a mess. Always stop by whenever we get a chance. The Sydney rock oysters are a favorite.

Christina R.

Yelp
This place is absolutely overwhelming but also smaller than I thought it would be so it was fairly manageable. There are many stalls selling fresh seafood and cooked foods. Not all of us are seafood lovers, but a quick walk across the car park can solve that equation. We were in Sydney during the winter and at the fish market during a weekday so it wasn't too crowded but I can absolutely see how this place can get overwhelmingly crowded. However, there are a lot of people working at each of the stalls so the service is quick and fairly easy. There are also a lot of tables and chairs outside in the back. I had to wash my hands after eating and the bathroom was terrifying. FYI. Thank goodness I didn't have to use the toilet.

Alex S.

Yelp
Be prepared to be packed like sardines here. If you can get over the insanity, you'd be treated to a huge selection of seafood and sushi cooked in many various ways! We got some grilled seafood with chips/fries, crabs cooked in Singapore chili sauce (yummmm. But they told you that it takes 30-45 min. We got ours pretty quick though). One or two vendors do have a couple of beers on draft. Bring all these delicacies outside and get yourself a table. Enjoy the food as you sit by the harbor, looking at the boats and water and watch out for the birds!!! They will swoop down and steal your food if you're not paying attention.

Jennifer S.

Yelp
Wow. SO busy. But it is worth the visit. It's an easy and short walk from the train. There are so many options that it can be overwhelming, so I would recommend looking at everything before deciding. We did it for the 'gram and ordered a sushi donut and a sushi taco. They both turned out to be pretty tasty, too. We ordered quite a few oysters, as well, and I am pretty sure my son ate more than half of what we ordered! A lot of the places offer a tray of six, and we ordered a few of them. We also had a lobster roll, which was very pretty, and good.

Jeffrey Jude A.

Yelp
Very fresh seafood, we tried oysters, prawns, salmon, abalone. Surprisingly no flies buzzing like some other fish market. They served very fast.

Jan B.

Yelp
We had a wonderful visit to the fish market. Easily accessible by light rail line from CBD. The range of oysters, fresh seafood from all over and prepared seafood wonderfully overwhelming. Had to sample some Sydney Rock and Pacific oysters. Want to go back on future trips to sample the sushi and other food.

Allen Y.

Yelp
Best seafood in Australia, if not the world. Every time I am in Sydney, I make it my mission to come here and indulge myself in seafood paradise. I would eat here every meal if I could. Pros - super fresh seafood. Their oysters are outstanding and they have an incredible variety of seafood. You can choose to eat from a wide selection of hot seafood or pick your own raw seafood and have them prepare it for you fresh, just the way you like it. Cons - crowded and limited seating. Closes too early at 4pm Overall, this is a MUST for any one visiting Sydney. The quality and taste of the food outranks any restaurant and is half the price. Make sure you include this in your itinerary.

Rolly P.

Yelp
Oi, mate, reckon I hit up this fish market down the street, right? Bloody disaster, I tell ya. Got me some snapper or so I thought, but turns out it's infested with more wrigglers than a can of bait. Fair dinkum, couldn't believe me eyes! If you're after a good feed, steer clear of that joint, or you'll end up with more squigglers in your gut than in the ocean.

Korey A.

Yelp
Super cool place to come sit by the water and have some good fresh food! There are quite a few restaurants inside, mostly seafood oriented but also some that are not. We had a lobster roll, sushi donut, sushi taco and chocolate dipped fruit. Everything was delicious! I would recommend the donut over the taco. I feel like you get more food even though it's probably just more rice. The donut is filled inside with fish, avocado and sauce.

Zemin H.

Yelp
it's good to shop around first to find what you like, they are all fresh. The price may not be cheap, you pay for freshness. My favorite is dozen of Pacific Oysters for about $36.99, the size and crispness are the best that I ever had. Also live & cooked to Order part are really good, we tried Lobster noodles, Crab and pippis noodles, they're so good .

Ruxuan L.

Yelp
Most of the food is alike, the main dishes are cheese potato lobsters and oysters. The price is fair but the cheese accounts for more than the seafood I think. I would recommend live lobster noodles for seafood dishes. That will be 89$ each lobster.

Jeff J.

Yelp
Very touristy but worth a visit if you like seafood. Sort of large indoor wet market w variety of vendors selling everything from fresh catch of the day to the more exotic. As with all tourist central markets prices aren't cheap. The food vendors are mostly Asian fusion. Cafeteria style seafood cooked for the mass. That said the food wasn't bad and there are large selections to choose from. Giving the favorable exchange rate at the time of this review, the cooked food prices are very reasonable. Ordered whole grilled baramundi, octopus, 2 abalones and grilled prawn for around $60 usd, which again, for a tourist place, isn't bad at all. Overall worth a quick visit but recommend do so during off peak lunch hours

Andrea U.

Yelp
Chefs, locals & fat sea gulls are here haggling over Balmain bugs, crabs, lobsters and salmon. They open at 5:30 AM and have the freshest oysters and sushi. There is a behind the scenes tour. A new market opening next year and a highly regarded cooking school.

Amanda W.

Yelp
If you love seafood, this is the place to be! You get multiple (thought I wouldn't say a lot) choices of places to eat. Mostly seafood, but there's a tea place and a bread place. I ordered 2 long king crabs (one full leg), lobster roll, and 3 scallops which came to about $38 USD with a drink. Love the charcoal taste, though could use a bit more pizzazzz. Really great atmosphere, super busy, plenty of seafood to choose from and pay/take home

Rob B.

Yelp
Overwhelming! It's hard to choose! Don't be afraid to buy your perfect fish/lobster or anything and have any of the places make you lunch or dinner. The torched seafood station is a good bet but the crab is better than scallops. This place moves this year so see it before it's gone.

Nel P.

Yelp
You want seafood? They got seafood! Be warned...there are lots of tourists! .... but then again, so are you (probably). If you like food and visiting Sydney, this is a "must go" place. So much variety, so many choices, which can be a bit overwhelming. The Aburi scallops are one of my favorites.

Carissa C.

Yelp
Such an overwhelmingly amazing lunch! My family and I were in town and knew right away that we needed to visit the famous Sydney Fish Market and we're glad we did! After getting dropped off by an Uber, what looked like a standard fish market from the outside was totally deceiving as to what lied on the inside. We discovered a definite fish market, that was surprisingly very clean and non-fish-smelling, but it was more of a seafood food hall mixed with other specialty stores that sold things like coffee, liquor, and breads. After perusing the market, we eventually decided on having lunch from Nicholas Seafood. We chose one of the seafood platters and an extra side of seafood fried rice. Included in our seafood platter was white bait fritters, lobster, prawns, fried oysters, and chips. Everything was piping hot, tender in texture, and delicious! Prices among the stalls were competitive. This place is a must-see!

Shalini G.

Yelp
We started our morning by walking 1.6 miles to the Sydney Fish Market for a sushi breakfast!! yum yum yum! by the time we arrived the place was bustling (and it wasn't even 9 am!) we strolled through the different food stands and picked the one that had sushi already packaged and ready to buy)... omg ...fresh and delish!! i also sampled my friends fish and chips...omg!!! definitely must stop here for yummy food... BTW...the lobster/prawns were my least fav (totally overcooked and tough)...stick with the raw food...you wont regret

Mel B.

Yelp
#14 for 2019 When my cousin told me that this is a better fish market than what she's been to stateside I just took it with a grain of salt. There are a few obstacles to get over. First is you can get here by train and it will let you off right across the street. If you do come by car there is parking but it can get tight if the tour buses start piling up. The second thing is the crowd. Even during the week day it can get very very crowded. After you've had a chance to gander around and come out of the shock, you'll want to secure a table. Just have your order, know what you and your group want, before you sit down. Getting a table can take time because sometimes there are little lines forming for each table 2 - 3 deep. Many tourist buses bring the crowds. You will also need to be careful where you sit. The tables are controlled and maintained by the vendors that are close by. They will tell you that if you do not order from them than you are not allowed to sit at their tables. So be cautious where you sit. I was immediately intrigued with 2 things I saw. The other was a sushi donut I saw was with one vendor. There were several of them and so pretty to look at. The other is the sashimi fish taco. More like a poke taco. There are a few vendors that have these. Again, these looked good too. I had to try them and I did. As gorgeous as they looked, they did not taste up to the expectation. The donut just had way too much rice. Gotta work on that ratio. Looking at the taco I was expecting a poke but it did not deliver the additional taste one would expect. If I had to choose I would choose the taco over the donut because atleast it had good fish taste. I did try a giant shrimp that was about the size of my forearm. For $25 it was cooked with spicy Szechuan sauce, split open and served in a styrofoam container. I had this one time before in another place. This, however, was even better. The meat was firm and tasty. It's the sauce that made this dish. Love the spicy taste. Excellent with white, sticky rice. There was an abundance of sushi, different types of fish from various ocean depths, octopus, oysters, various types clams and shrimp, abalone, sea horse and other creatures that looked like may not be edible. I'd try it. I can't wait to go back.

Violet H.

Yelp
Technically, this place really is across the street from its namesake lightrail stop, but you will still have to walk a way through a very active parking lot with many trucks and cars moving around. You need to take care here. I watched two young women walk directly in front of a truck. Fortunately, the driver was paying attention. Have fun, but be safe, and keep in mind there are a bunch of people trying to do their work. While some restaurants and businesses are scattered around the market, most are located in one enclosed area. This is the heart and soul of the place. It's compact, so you won't have any trouble seeing everything. Mostly it's fresh and prepared seafood, but there's also a deli, a small bakery, and a souvenir shop. There are benches out front by the parking payment machines, and tables and chairs / stools inside. It can get very busy and difficult to move, what with locals doing their shopping, those feasting, and coach-fulls of tourists descending all at once. There are restrooms here, kind of in the middle. I need to warn you: They do the job, but they're pretty nasty. You'll smell them before you see them. In the ladies' room, there's not much space between the stalls and sink area, so when it's busy, it's tough to get in and out. The toilets are all steel and have no toilet seats. Well, they're not great, but at least they are there and they work. Good place for all ages. Not at the level (or size) of places like Tokyo's Tsukiji Fish Market or Seattle's Pike Place Market, but still a nice diversion.

Patrick C.

Yelp
This place was really busy when I went here, and everybody was packet like sardines. I could barely get past all the people queued to buy something. This place is really expensive and it's really noisy with everybody here. Not enough tables to eat so we ended up sitting on the bit around the trees that was covered in bird poo. The people who actually got a seat that day spent like more than an hour eating The food quality was okay, but it was very expensive for the how much they give you. Like $28.50 for a tiny box of fish . The parking limit is 20 minutes between 4am and 4pm (the times when it's really busy), but that doesn't help with anything because people don't care and then just pay whatever they owe, so the car park was madness and I was lucky I didn't drive. We took the light rail (tram) and got on at Capitol Square and got off at Fish Market and it turns out everyone packs into the tram and like 5/6 of the people on the tram got off at fish market and the tram had barely anybody when the tram was departing. Anyway, don't come here unless you're a really huge seafood lover and don't care if you're packed like sardines there.

Huong L.

Yelp
This is a nice place to go if you want fresh seafood. It's pretty small but it has a variety of things you can choose from. From scallops to King crab to abalone, etc. Some of the things are cooked while others are still fresh and you can ask them to cook it right there as well. We ended up getting a few dishes from the various shops to try and all the seafood was fresh. The oysters were my favorite, sweet and flavorful. I also like the sushi donut and taco, they unique and taste great. Although it's not as big as the fish market in Japan, it's still worth while to check it out and get some fresh fish!

Ariana K.

Yelp
I feel most vacations I always end up in the local fish market. Haha, who can resist fresh seafood? Anyway, compared to fish markets in Asia, this one felt on the smaller side. But still impressive with the seafood selection. We came here early on a weekday to beat the crowds. It was perfect timing, not overly crowded at all and we got first dibs on everything we wanted to get.

Nicky N.

Yelp
What is there not to love about this place? Omg, the place smells like fresh seafood. You walk into the fish market and you just don't know where to start nor what to eat. There's fresh uni for $5. I feel like I hit jackpot. The girl didn't do a good job cleaning them but you can't complain if they open/clean for free. There's sushi, lobster, shrimp, fish, oysters and so much more. I wish there was something like this back home. I'm so in love with this place and will be back again before we head to fiji.

Mel M.

Yelp
From up the street you can smell the fresh fishy smell. Just walk towards it and you'll run into the arrow for the entrance. Once there the fish scent goes away. Pics don't really capture the size of some of the seafoods like the different crabs, lobsters and the jumbo sized prawns. Aside from fresh catch you can purchase a dozen fresh oysters or prepared grilled plates with a variety of oysters, clams, lobster with prawns. They even had heaps of sea urchin. It's seafood so it will be pricey. Mel M Yelp 18:47

Christina L.

Yelp
A tourist attraction! Our family wanted to check out the fish market to have lunch. There are lots of options so make sure you walk around and choose where to eat. We got a recommendation from our Uber Driver to try Doyels which is located right in the entrance. The lobster and chili crab was not memorable. We also got the salmon sashimi (my favorite). fried rice, prawns and fish and chips. We brought 2 dozen oysters to share. We wanted to try the sea urchin but was too full after eating all the food.

Imbri S.

Yelp
Probably the least expensive place we ate on our honeymoon! We made it in just minutes from every last stall closing up for the day, thus we scored some seriously great prices on everything that had been prepped for display in that last hour. Despite it having been cooked before we ordered rather than as we ordered, all had that caught-today freshness. Most of what remained open after we devoured plates of grilled and fried sea creatures were the kitschy souvenir shops that you just have to expect anyplace there will be many tourists. Surprisingly we also got some pretty solid bargains on those in comparison to all the various shops we visited on our bus tours. All in all, a worthy stop, but not quite a five-star experience this round. Should we make it back to Sydney, we'll definitely repeat the visit, though.

Vivian C.

Yelp
The Sydney Fish Market is one of those places in Sydney that we were told we just had to go to as tourists. So on our last day in the city, we went! Parking was rather limited, but we managed to find a spot since our visit was after lunch time. Still the tables at the Fish Market were pretty much occupied. We decided it would be wiser to find a table before picking a line to place our order - good idea since tables in Sydney generally seem to belong to specific businesses, and it turned out that was precisely the case here! We managed to find a table at Fish Market Cafe, so we enjoyed our late lunch there. A friend's smaller group, however, found themselves a table outside somewhere.

Scott G.

Yelp
This was my favorite place in Sydney. I got a dozen Sydney Rock oysters unshucked for $20. I shucked them at the picnIc table outside. You can buy them shucked for a dollar or 2 more for a dozen. They look a lot like small pacific oysters although the taste is a little different. Biologically they are a unique species. The gift store on the north side of the main building has a really nice selection of oyster knives. I bought a really nice French style knife for $40. Claudio's and Nicholas looked to be the best quality seafood. Di Costi had slightly lower prices. The salmon is farmed in Australia and they catch kingfish (yellowtail) locally so hamachi and sake are the best sashimi fish to eat down under. Most of the tuna (maguro) sashimi I had tasted like it was frozen. It's a must see in Sydney. Get there early to beat the crowds.

Catharina I.

Yelp
I don't get the hype... maybe I expected too much after loving my visit to Tokyo's fish market. This seems to be a tourist attraction where there are about 6 stalls who all sell a good variety of fish: you can get quite some sashimi and oysters plus some fried options. However, I felt that most stalls offered the same things. The concept is simple: you walk around, you buy and then you eat :-) The annoying part is though that if you manage to find something more unique, you can't combine your orders from one stall with the other since all stalls have dedicated seating areas. There are options outside but quite honest, it was chock full of seagulls and other birds and I am a bit nervous when I see that many birds. I struggled to find an original bite and found most options not cheaper than most restaurants in town so I don't get why you would sit on a bench to eat things you might as well enjoy in a nicer surrounding.

Eunice L.

Yelp
Love this place but I'd go for breakfast. Once it gets to more normal hours of the day, it is filled to the gills (pun intended) with tourists hence the many negative reviews bashing this place. My advice going forward till they move locations is to book a behind the scenes market tour. I had an amazing tour with Alex back in September of the auction floor which was super interesting from the way they sell the fish to the ability to see a lot of the fish up close and personal. The tour was about $35 AUD, required an early start but Alex (who is amazing!) made it fun and informative despite the fact that I'm not a morning person AT ALL. He also made an awesome Sydney seafood restaurant recommendation respecting the fact that I was going to be in Tokyo the following week. Once you're done the tour enjoy some seafood while the market is fairly empty then jet before it gets super busy. Bonus: as part of booking this tour I got a code for discounted tickets to a Sherlock Holmes exhibit that was happening at the Powerhouse museum. That was also worth it so win-win!

Yelp
Sydney Fish Market is a must visit if you are a seafood lover. I just love looking at all these fresh seafood, as what they offers is quite different than what I can get at home. Everything here is photo worthy! But sadly most of them looks better than it taste. I would stay away from all those prepared cooked food. They were mostly deep fried or drenched in sauce. And those oysters that were shucked and on displayed?? I preferred my freshly shucked! I do recommend the seared scallops/oysters from Peters. Those are just so good! Get what you feel like trying. I was a little disappointed with the scampi. Avoid the weekend. The place is just crazily busy and with bus load of tourists. Worth a visit at least once! I did go back for twice during my short visit in Sydney.

Yelp
A place recommended to check out if you're in Sydney! If you like checking out fish markets and a plethora of live seafood, this place is for you. It was pretty cool to check out all the different seafood they had - best part was you could take it home or you can choose for them to cook it there for you to eat! We walked around the main hall and saw so much oysters to crabs, shrimps, abalone and much more - it was awesome to see all the varieties. We picked some oysters with uni/ikura and other toppings on top and it was delish-price was kinda a bit high but you'd expect that in Sydney. We also chose some clams and mussels (they have a minimum pound if you want them to cook it)- and you can choose how to make them and sauce you want. We decided on a sautéed xo sauce and it was so good! There's tables inside and outside by the water to eat and drink. Cool place to check out!

Yelp
Like most tourist destinations, this place becomes crowded by 10:40. We came earlier when the crowd was low, and bought the pre-made lobster, scallop, king crab, and scallops. Combined with uni (sea urchin), it was over 100 aud, so expect to spend a lot! There's only one place that serves uni at the front, and they opened the uni right in front of us, but we had to pay for soy sauce and wasabi, too. The view was nice, and there are plenty of tables outside to sit down to enjoy your seafood feast. When the people behind us started feeding the seagulls their leftovers, we could also feel their beady little red eyes burning holes into our own food. Finished our food and got out of there pretty quick after that.

Yelp
I really enjoyed the trip. Short walk from the hop on hop off bus stop. I would recommend bringing cash and your camera. You'll definitely see all kinds of seafood and sea life!

Yelp
I think I died a little and went to sea heaven when I stepped foot in this place. If you love seafood, this is your baby. Yes, this place is filled with tourists (and many locals) and if you step foot in this place, you will see why. This place is a seafood mecca and I don't think I've ever had as much fresh seafood in my life. There were so many different creations--beautifully crafted sushi, lobsters, jumbo prawns--that I got to try, including baked cheese oysters and those were delicious and all reasonably priced. You don't have to love raw seafood to come here--there is plenty of cooked seafood, although I think eating sashimi and raw oysters is totally the way to go to experience the crispness and freshness. I loved, LOVED the raw Pacific oysters so much, I had to get another dozen because I had never eaten them before. If you've never tried raw Pacific oysters before, you truly are missing out--they are creamy and buttery and phenomenal. Pick up some fresh (and cheap) pressed juice at the fruit stand outside to go with your food, where you can also find some fresh produce. Although this is the Sydney Fish Market, only the front half of the market sells fish. The rest of the space is filled with your typical souvenir shops. One thing I was extremely annoyed about was the lack of seating. There were plenty of seats outdoors and very limited seating indoors, but they were just all taken (mostly by floods of Chinese tourist groups). Come as early as you can to avoid the crowds and get dibs on fresh batches of seafood!

Yelp
So the best Sushi in the world is from Japan, right? Hell no! The Sushi from Sydney's Fish Market has not to hide by any means! Stroll through the food stalls, grab a Bottle of wine and enjoy the sun and the people on this very crowded place. Our Sushi was just awesome!

Yelp
There's plenty of fish in the sea... and at the Sydney Fish Market I love how there's so many options here! From fish, oysters, crabs, lobster, to chips, cheeses, etc., you name it, they have it! The seafood is so fresh, and you can get them to cook it so you can enjoy your meal in the outdoor seating area. Prices are a bit high, but you're basically paying for the freshness of the seafood. It can get very busy during the weekends, so lines can be long, can get crowded, and you may have to wait a bit to get a table. Oh, and be mindful of the seagulls! They'll be ready to snatch some food when you're not looking... and even when you're looking! Lol!

Yelp
FRESH FISH GALORE. Located on the water, the fishy smell only reminds you that it's as fresh as can be. Even if you don't shop to buy, it's an interesting place to come and observe unique sea-life that you may not be familiar with. You'll probably discover more seafood than you ever knew possible. There isn't much ready-to-eat food that you can order, but I remember there being one or two spots for that. There are a few tables outside on a deck. There are lots of tourists, and this isn't a spot you'd hang out at for a while, but definitely an interesting stop!

Yelp
Parking is private, but it gets significantly pricier the longer you stay. Anyone looking to enjoy their food and the view will definitely have to dig in their wallet. This was my first time at any fish market, so I don't know what the norm is. It was super hectic! I was getting lost in the crowd and getting a little frustrated to be honest. I was ready to turn back around and leave, but as a tourist, I was told I needed to experience this place. I'm glad I ended up staying. I can't remember everything we got from which vendor, but the food was delicious. Yes, it feels pricey, but it's fresh seafood. My main complaints were about the pushy crowd and the many, many birds, but you can't really do anything about that.

Yelp
Great Fish Market!!!! It's a plethora of options with such great tasting food !! We couldn't decide because it's so many choices of sushi, lobster, crabs , oysters , octopus, drinks , coffee/ danishes, etc... Once we heard about how great the fish market was we wanted to see it for ourselves and it was everything we were told!! If you're a seafood person or just want something different other than the traditional food you should definitely try the Fish Market! We ordered sushi, octopus, oysters that were topped with a cheese sauce (so yummy) , the boiled shrimp which was seasoned to perfection! Highly Recommend!!!

Yelp
First of all, I'm a seafood lover, so I tend to give higher reviews for seafood places in general. I've been to several other seafood markets and I think this is by far the best in terms of raw items: - the sea urchin is a must-have. It's very fresh. - the shrimp is also a must-have. I like the texture of the meat and the sweetness from the meat itself. - the oysters are good too. I can taste a moderate amount of saltiness from the ocean and they're not stinky at all like some other seafood. - the sashimi platter is great, especially the kingfish. One star deducted for the cooked items. They look super look from the counter but unfortunately when I got them, they are already cold and don't taste fresh any more. The only ok item is the eel.

Yelp
It's a mind blowing culinary Adventure. All the sushi, raw fish, shrimp and anything else you might desire all under one roof. Packed with tourist and locals every open hour but especially around lunchtime. It's inexpensive and quick if your just looking for a bite to eat. I might suggest that if you're not looking for a bite to eat that you keep clear, you'll end up eating no matter what. I for instance just went to check it out, I ended up getting a ton of sushi, not just one time but multiple times. Just can't help it. The place is packed with cheep sushi. It's also something of an educational trip. Learn about what's fresh and local and how the local fish community is working with locals and restaurants. Just ask the right questions and you'll see. This is a spot I'm going to go to whenever I'm in town, just for fun and a quick bite.
