10 Spicy Portland Dishes That Deliver the Heat | Eater Portland

"This South Portland Chinese restaurant is where various Sichuan hot pot dishes and soups come to life. The Chongqing chicken, however, stands alone at the top of the heat hierarchy. This dish, also known as laziji, is essentially bits of crispy chicken utterly buried in red chilies and Sichuan peppercorn, balancing tingling mala with the sheer heat of the peppers. The restaurant is open seven days a week for takeout only." - Ron Scott

This spot has now become a new hot pot place. The place is spacious and clean. What's nice about this spot is that you can choose what items you want and place it in your pot. They charge you by the weight. They will give you a few soup options as well as dry option for the food. We chose one soup (classic ma la tang) and a dry (spicy szechuan dry mix) option. The medium spice is good enough for me to enjoy. The mild spice dry pot actually would be equivalent to a medium spice (in my opinion). They also have some side appetizers you can order as well. We ordered the crispy fried chicken (kind of like popcorn chicken) and the mixed beef with spicy sauce. The fried chicken could've been better if there was some seasoning on it. The mixed beef was good. Overall, the flavor of the soup broth was very clean and enjoyable. I would come here again.

5 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I’m visiting Oregon from California, and I have to say—Big Hey Hot Pot blew me away! This was hands down the best hot pot I’ve ever had. My husband and I are big spice lovers, so we appreciated the heat, but fair warning: anything over a level 3 is seriously spicy—deliciously flavorful, but definitely not for the faint of heart! The atmosphere was cozy and welcoming, everything was super clean, and the staff were kind and attentive. It made for such a great experience all around. If you’re a hot pot fan (or even if you’re new to it), this place is a must-visit. We’ll definitely be back next time we’re in town!

Absolutely loved this place! The atompshere was amazing, the service was incredible. They asked if we'd ever been there before, and taught us what to do. They gave us to-go containers that I can use at home for everything. I got to try lots of different meats and mushrooms. Its amazing if you love seafood! A little too oily for my taste, but i'm told that it's a cultural thing so that makes sense. I'm definitely coming back with my friends.

Google
I really love this concept, being able to perfectly proportion your ingredients for your hot pot is something I really like. You don't always want to get a full plate of cabbage or meat or noodles, but sometimes you want a little here and there. This restaurant lets you fill a bowl with your hotpot ingredients from a nice refrigerated wall section with a wide assortment of options. You pay by the pound and select a broth which they will prepare and bring out your bowl to the table when it's ready. The interior is really nice, and the staff and service were great. I am rating this 4 stars for a few reasons though. The broth was not that flavorful and lacked mala spice even though I got the mala broth. I love a good beef tallow Szechuan broth and this lacked both a strong meat flavor and that numbing spice. The other reason is I was not a fan of the vegetable selection. I really wish they had bokchoy or green beans or squash. My favorite thing on the menu was the garlic oil cucumber, those were really tasty and refreshing.

Very cool experience. The soup was good and is brought out very fast. You get to customize your bowls yourself which makes the experience unique and fun!

Google
We tried this place for the first time today and loved it! Big parking lot, welcoming staff, and nice menu. I ordered the chili chopped fish and loved it a lot. I really liked the medium chunks of fish and the tiny pieces of green beans. A little spicy but not too much. My husband ordered the hot garlic shrimp and got a much smaller portion than me. I didn't like the flavor of his. It tasted a little sweet and kind of reminded me of hoisin sauce. The hot and sour soup was ok. I wasn't a huge fan of the egg rolls because the inside tasted a little gummy to me. However, I still give 5 stars for my fabulous meal and for the overall experience. I might not get a lunch special next time, and I can't wait to try more things and eat more chili fish!

Google
Great new place for hot pot. Loved the heat. The owner really cares about the food. They got crawfish too

Google
A wide assortment of ingredients to make your hotpot: fresh fish, meat, vegetables, mushrooms, fish balls, etc You put them in a bowl, select one of their 5 or 6 broths and give it to them to cook. Then you put on sauces from a wide selection of hot sauces and oils. Very efficient - you get exactly what you want - and very good. I can't even begin to understand how people didn't like the service. It's a self-service place. The atmosphere is clean and simple, sort of like a cafeteria. About what I would expect. If you want something fancy, Portland has a Ruth Chris steakhouse.

Yelp
Great vegetarian food options and if you like your food flavorful and spicy - this is the place for you!

Yelp
This is a small, good-looking, super clean and very friendly place that also has delicious Szechuan cuisine. We ordered soups, then Chong Qing Hot Chicken (chicken with chilis, fantastic), Szechuan cold noodles, potstickers, dry cooked string beans, and Mongolian beef. The menu is wide-ranging and our server was so helpful as to ingredients, heat level, and more. It's so worth trying this nice place!

Yelp
This was a great dinner to celebrate a family birthday--perfect atmosphere and service for our party of 8, including a 16 month old and a preschooler. The food was tasty--I shouldn't have even tried the prawns with pineapple and honey walnuts. It was the most addicting, food without brakes that I've eaten in a long time. It proud to admit it, but I was a resource hoarder on this particular dish. I sat between the baby and the four-year-old, so I got away with it. I'll be back--arrive hungry!

Lucia T.

Yelp
First of all, the food is amazing. We always get the toothpick beef and it is phenomenal every time. Usually we order like 5 different dishes for the table and they are always good. The service is good, the waitstaff gave us good recommendations and we were seated quickly. We got our food in a timely manner. Overall, a great restaurant!

Yelp
Szechuan Chef Chinese Restaurant is one of our go to Chinese restaurant in PDX Tasty fairly priced Chinese food. Service is fast, friendly and efficient.

Yelp
Bad lunch take-out experience today - food was bland and soggy, service was flustered and the place is really dirty. I've had great food here a few times in the past. Might've just been a bad day but I won't be back.

Yelp
i had the mandarin crispy chicken lunch special, which comes with a soup (i chose hot & sour) and white or fried rice (i chose the latter). as i entered the restaurant the hostess asked me if i wanted water or hot tea. i opted for hot tea. first, the hot tea is 2 bucks. not a lot, but i've rarely seen hot tea being charged at chinese restaurants, no less when offered as an option against water. so that was off-putting. the hot & sour soup was fine. i asked for hot mustard, and they gave me little to-go packets. i asked for a red hot sauce like sambal and they offered me chili oil (which was fine). but it was in this little to-go container. and even that didn't have enough chili flakes in it. i don't know, everything was off-putting... obviously their primary business is takeway/delivery. the chicken was okay. not as crispy as the name of the dish would suggest. the food came out really fast, so clearly all of it is just sitting under some heat lamps or something. the sauce didn't seem to be added on over chicken, i don't know. seemed like it was just in a buffet dish or something. it tasted fine i guess. the fried rice was really under seasoned. the whole time i wished i had ordered white rice. anyway, the whole experience of dining in was pretty sub-par. not terrible, but not good either. price was fine i guess, in this day and age (see lunch menu photo - wait... as a matter of fact, even the menu they offered me at the dine-in was a takeaway paper menu! like, they don't cater to dine-in whatsoever... which is a waste because their space there is quite nice). it's a shame not that great, because it's very convenient. and lastly, an observation: i noticed that average 3.5 star ratings in portland on yelp usually means the restaurant is not that great. that's just what i've noticed... usually 3.5 means above average, but not in portland. need to heed that more often.

Yelp
Took my parents for dinner, the restaurant has wheelchair access, very friendly staff and great service. Food is yummy, must try stir fry shaved noodles. We ordered roasted duck, very yummy. Will come back again.

Yelp
In our experience, this is the best cold mixed beef around -- and we have had this dish at several Portland area restaurants, San Francisco, New York City and Victoria, BC.

Yelp
After the disappointment of Kuang's Kitchen a few weeks ago, this place more than rocks! The amazing food, unique menu complete with extensive vegetarian options, low prices, and generous portions more than made up for a longer than average wait to order drinks and have the bill delivered. Definitely on the list of favorite Szechuan spots in Portland!

Yufei T.

Yelp
They used to be good but nowadays they shrink their food so much. I mostly order their food from Uber eats. The chongqing hot chicken has no chicken in it anymore compare to it used to be, it looks like a big amount but it actually just fried flour. The rice that costs 1.75 dollars is sooo tiny. Few times I had to order multiple of them but I still only got one at the end. Also the fish filet size has decreased too. I'm very disappointed to the food quality nowadays. The taste is still good, but please stop being so stingy.

Bruce B.

Yelp
Five stars for the food. Crispy garlic chicken and ma po tofu (no meat) we're outstanding. The hand shaved rice noodles are special. Six of us ate seven mouth watering dishes. Parking is easy. The ambience is so so in this former Japanese restaurant. The service is inconsistent and a little confused but rendered cheerfully and enthusiastically. We will definitely return. If it was closer to home it would be my choice for takeout.

Lucia Y.

Yelp
Not much of flavor, and spicy dishes are not even spicy. Rice tasted real old. 米饭是陈米,菜 很油,没什么味,更没什么川味,感觉厨师很糊弄。也没有香锅什么的了。

Yelp
I had potstickers there and it was horrible. I could've made much better ones at my home.

Yelp
I honestly feel bad because me and my significant other came in without much of an appetite. The portions are so generous and huge that it looked like we barely touched anything. (I hope the staff did not think we didnt enjoy the food, because we did!) We ordered the Shanghai soup dumplings/xiao long bao, eggplant with hot garlic sauce, and the crispy mandarin chicken! We ended up taking a lot of it home, which lasted another 1-2 meals. We were both agreeance (did i spell that right? it looks wrong) that we could see ourselves coming back here. We havent really had chinese food together, so this was a nice change! It wasnt too busy, and service was great as well. People tend to be hesistent when certain restaurants dont seem busy and automatically assume its because the food is not good - but it isnt the case for this restaurant. Dont let it fool you!

Yelp
Quality has definitely gone down throughout the years. I haven't been back since few years ago. Was in the restaurant picking up BuerJia Chinese Sauerkraut Fish (pop-up for January 2021), and decided to also order few items from Szechuan Chef. Eggplant was drenched in oil and not very flavorful. Smoked duck flavor was okay but meat was dry, it has probably been left out overnight. Cumin lamb was cooked with almost half of the dish filled with veggie and lacking cumin flavors. Disappointed that the flavors and quality has dropped over these past few years since it's one of the OG Sichuan food places in PDX.

Yelp
I've eaten at many Szechuan places to include Monterey park in LA and this place is on par for being one of the better restaurants around. The food is reasonably priced with great portions! There booths being separated give you privacy from the people around you to have a more intimate restaurant experience with your friends. It's in Portland and I know your thinking parking must be terrible but the parking is great also. If your in the area check this restaurant out don't miss the opportunity to eat dinner here they have such a great range of food selections for everyone to enjoy.

Sonia Z.

Yelp
Awesome food, really big portion and authentic flavors! I'll come back again tomorrow.

Yelp
Amazing experience! Food was so good and the customer service was delightful. If you want great Chinese food, you should definitely check this restaurant out!

Yelp
We gave it a try again and this time, though lots of cars were in the parking lot, only 4 people were waiting for food. We tried to stay apart from others but you know, their area is small so you can only do so much. Food! We ordered online and picked it up. This time, the food was nice and hot, even when we got home! #1: 74. Sliced Fish in Sweet & Sour Sauce: always consistent. Even though it's not as crispy as you would have it in the restaurant, it wasn't mushy and it was still delicious. I love its garlic honey sauce. $14.95 #2: S49. Seafood Tofu in Hot Pot: first time ordering it to-go. It was worth the money as the portions were very reasonable. There were lots of veggies, tofu, shrimp, some fish, and some squid. All were delicious. $15.95 #3: 52. Pork Slices Peking Style with Scallions: I don't remember trying it in the restaurant. We asked for less oil but to be honest, I couldn't tell. I guess I'll have to try it again to compare. There was more visible oil than the other dishes. The sauce was strong and flavorful. Not salty as in you need water, in fact, I didn't feel thirsty afterwards. I'm just saying it's good with some rice! The pork slices were so tender! The scallions were good too, I want more! $13.95 Overall, food was good and would go back again and get their take outs.

Yelp
We just came from having a lovely dinner here. The food was great, the service super fast, efficient and friendly. The only problem was that our nice meal had an unpleasant ending when we walked out the doors and into a group of six guys smoking right near the entrance. They barely moved to let us pass as we walked through their cloud of smoke. Other diners had to walk through it to go in. Though this isn't the restaurant's fault (and smoking isn't that common in Portland), smoking is illegal within 100 feet of a business's entrance, and it is up to the restaurant to enforce this. A very clear sign, saying just that, should do the trick, and I really encourage Szechuan Chef to put it in place.

Yelp
Ask for Crispy Fish Szechuan style if you aren't into Prawns. It's like the Szechuan version of Fish & Chips. For a Chips substitute, try the Hand cut noodles are back, and are a house special... so yummy. I order these two dishes regularly along with Egg rolls, Onion Pancakes, Snowpea tips in Garlic Sauce. It's better to order direct, or just drop by and order, since they have a large parking lot, and easy access to the Sellwood Bridge, and Taylors Ferry Road.

Yelp
If youre ever in the area I HIGHLY recommend this place. They were super friendly and quick with us ordering and bringing out our food. Very accommodating with directions on where to go based on how you ordered. Between looking at the menu, ordering and receiving our food it was about 20 minutes. Average price for a Szechuan restaurant. 4 items for about $40. Good portion sizes. We tried the dan dan noodles - I missed getting the hand pulled noodles, but this was delicious! Spicy but super flavorful - 9/10 Garlic pork belly - it's a cold dish, but super flavorful - heavy garlic flavor - and a huge portion. - 9/10 Chili wontons - filled with pork, nearly overflowing. Chili oil wasn't overpowering, but just enough buildable spice. 8/10 Soup dumplings - super juicy, filled to the brim with meat. Dumpling skin was thin and the perfect texture. - 10/10

Yelp
We used to love this restaurant but the quality is going down. We ordered 3 dishes. The service was great but the food experience was very disappointing. 1. Pan Fried Shredded Pork with Cilantro - 4 out of 5 This is one of our favorite dish, and it was good. 2. Hometown Flavored Hotpot with Lamb - 1 out of 5 3. Dried Cooked Mixed mushroom - 1 out of 5 I was so disappointed with these 2 dishes. First, both dishes' name were indicating they would be served in hot pots. However both were served as regular dishes. The menu picture and dishes name are misleading. it is a red flag for any restaurant if your menu doesn't match the items you serve. Second, the flavor and ingredients of these 2 dishes are almost identical. Flavor - the lamb was more numbing than the mushroom but that's pretty much it. They tasted very similar...and it is mainly because of the side ingredients. Side Ingredients - this is where I can tell this restaurant is giving up on serving yummy food. The side ingredients in these 2 dishes are identical ( you can see it in the pics). I can tell they were cut and cooked in exact same way. It is not very thoughtful for a restaurant - why would a customer wants to pay $30 and get 2 dishes that are almost identical conceptually? Moreover, the menu is so misleading because 2 dishes have very very different names. I understand Covid is hard on small restaurants and restaurants must change to survive. It is ok to serve dishes the way you did, however, your menu sets another level of expectations. I really suggest you change your menu and re-think what kind of food you are able to serve. Set a realistic expectation for your customers so they know what they will get.

Yelp
Everything I've tried here is pretty good. They do takeout orders really smart too by putting fried chicken in its own container so that it stays crispy and doesn't get soggy from sauces like so many other Chinese food places. They don't include soup in their to-go lunch specials which is a little lame, especially when I ordered 3 lunches and asked if they could put it all in one to go container to make it easier. They said they could not and I had to pay for a small soup. Seems like an arbitrary rule to annoy customers. The sesame chicken also wasn't the best, but most things I've tried here have been tasty.
google avatar

Anton E.

Yelp
This place survived Covid and pandemic foreclosures and for the right reason: the food is still good and so is the service. I am definitely coming back here to try more dishes.

Blake R.

Yelp
The food was delicious here and the ambiance of the restaurant was very casual and nice. The staff also served us during the beginning of their lunch and went above and beyond to serve great food

Ole L.

Yelp
I took my picky teenage daughters here and they loved it! If you like Chinese and appreciate authentic food, check this place out. I can't say it's known for being the cleanest or the fastest, but it is the tastiest. Definitely worth a visit!

C B.

Yelp
I rarely wright reviews but wanted to share. We ordered a number of dishes including dumplings and kung pan chicken which was undercooked and raw. I would encourage anyone going to check your meal or go elsewhere. This was so disappointing.

Kylie M.

Yelp
The food was delicious. Not the best Chinese food I've ever eaten , but for Portland it was good. Family style is the only way to go with at least 4 people.
google avatar

Nicole W.

Yelp
I have ordered from here twice and been happy with my order both times. The beef in the Beef and Broccoli is super tender. It has carrots which I like and they are generous with the broccoli. The General Tso's chicken is good too. I like that you can specify spice level when ordering through Uber Eats. The portion sizes are big. Rice is always included for free along with fortune cookies. I'm happy to have found another good choice for Chinese food.
google avatar

Yelp
We have a long history of going here and noticed a lot of changes since they moved locations. Normally a solid 3.5-4 for us but a 1 star tonight... But tonight's dinner was terrible. I always order extra for leftovers but it's all in compost and recycling now. Hot and Sour Wonton soup - just not good on any level. Not sour, nothing like hot and sour and won tons we're just ok. Chicken dish was ok. Supposed to be spicy, wasn't. Just deep fried on congealed red. Chow mien was just noodles. Literally a container of all noodles with 5 pics of beef on top (which were gross), seriously 4-5 slivers of cabbage and 1 sliver of onion. WTH. Reg potstickers we're fine. Honestly it has been 4-6 months since we've been there but this good was unrecognizable as the same restaurant my son and I used to go to for soup dumplings on the regular. Really I'm not trying to bash them, this is a reminder for me to "go to the other place" next time.

Yelp
This is our go-to place when we find ourselves in Portland and feel like spicy Szechuan cuisine. The dining space is a labyrinth of rooms with at least 4 different dining areas sprawled in the building that houses a Pier One store. Given the size of this restaurant. and somewhat hard to find location south of south waterfront, getting a table here is never a problem. The menu is extensive with photos to help you decide on your dishes. They do have more typical Chinese-american dishes for the less adventurous palates, but we always stick with the Szechuan items (when in Rome......). The Szechuan hot pot/gravy style dishes have never disappointed both in quantity, flavor nor spiciness. We've also tried pork belly dishes and shaved noodle plates that were good but more pedestrian. The meats have always been tender though less plentiful. The fish filets used are boneless tilapia, ideal for saucy dishes. The only disappointment at this restaurant is that they charge you $1 for a small bowl of rice. 3 bowls might be needed for 2 people to soak up all the yummy gravy and sauces. Besides the rice charge (which is atypical at other chinese places), the prices are fair for the amount of food given. We've always had leftovers after dining here.

Adrienne G.

Yelp
Biggest disappointment on my search for the best Crispy or Roast Duck. Their Crispy Duck was NOT crispy or even completely cooked! The skin was rubbery and not cooked. I ended up putting it in my fry pan to crisp up the skin and get the meat well done. The pork ribs were chopped up in small bites. You have to ask for rice, which I'd assumed would come with my order, I discovered as I was rice-less. I will not order from them again. The only positive was fast delivery, but from looks of it, they should've finished cooking the meal before delivering.

Yelp
Wonderful flavors in a nice quiet location with off street parking. Eggplant is perfectly prepared. Spicy fish is perfectly Sichuan mala style. Super friendly and helpful staff. Great place to practice one's Mandarin too. My favorite Chinese restaurant in Oregon.

Titas B.

Yelp
Got here ~8 pm on a weekend and was a little skeptical of going in because there was absolutely noone else in the restaurant. However we went in and glad we did! I've until now been very disappointed in my hunt for Szechuan good in Portland - specifically Dan Dan noodles and hot pot. This place finally met my expectations. Not the best Szechuan food I've ever had but the best in Portland. We enjoyed the lamb hot pot and Dan Dan noodles. Also got green beans which were good to add variety but not an essential dish. Portions were large and overall the bill was more reasonable than most. Will be back for my Szechuan food cravings! Might try to see if they can do the hot pot dish in Chicken next time.

Yelp
I got a order of chicken and broccoli and some pot stickers on the side . The food was very flavorful for what I got . The staff was very friendly when I picked up my order and the prices are fair . Nothing to complain about :)

Yelp
I ordered takeout from here one night for dinner, and the food definitely satisfied my Chinese food craving! We ordered chow mein, Mongolian beef, stir fry shrimp, and stir fry chicken. They come in good portions so you can do family style. It was a bit on the greasy end but the flavor was there. But becuase of this, the food will make you feel heavy and full you up faster than usual. I only ate about half of my meal with rice, but then again I had more leftovers for the next day! I also had some pieces of shrimp that was just deep fried batter which was a bit disappointing. Overall I would give this place a 3.5 stars! It reminded me of the Chinese restaurants I used to go to as a kid, so I would probably order takeout again from here and try other dishes!

Steph B.

Yelp
I LOVE Chong Qing Hot Chicken... but it is SO inconsistent here. We have been eating here for years, and recently it has become very hit-or-miss in terms of flavor. When it's good, it's reeeally good. But when it isn't, it lacks the distinct Szechuan peppercorn flavor and the tingly mouth-feel that is supposed to come with it (I often can't see a single peppercorn in the dish). I even started keeping track of when it's bland and flavorless in the hopes of narrowing it down to one bad chef on certain days of the week... but it seems random. It's a huge bummer, especially given the significant recent price increase. I'm tired of being so disappointed.

Lindsay C.

Yelp
This is one of my new favorite spots for Chinese takeout. The Moo Shu Chicken and the Shanghai Pork Dumplings were delightful. Great flavor and cooked perfectly. Would definitely recommend!
google avatar

Gina V.

Yelp
We love this new Chinese Restaurant! Highlights are the Hot & Sour Soup, the steamed pot stickers, the green onion pancake and the double mushroom beef. As a person who LOVES Chinese food and ALL TYPES of Chinese food, I have to say that I very much did not like the flavor in the Szechuan Shrimp and ESPECIALLY didn't like some strong flavor in the dried mixed mushrooms. There was some flavor in both that I've never experienced in Chinese food and did not enjoy. Fennel maybe? It's too authentic for even an adventurous palate like mine. I couldn't eat them. It also made my mouth and lips tingle. So strange! Aside from the those, EVERYTHING else I've had has been EXCEPTIONAL! You must try this place.

Kesha F.

Yelp
This was our first and last time here. I ordered what was supposed to be a vegetarian dish. Do roaches count as vegetables? Is this an impossible roach?
google avatar

Wei C.

Yelp
My coworkers and I enjoy coming here for lunch since they have some good lunch specials for a really decent price. Lunch specials consist of your choice of fried or steam rice and your choice of an entree. All their lunch specials come with your choice of a cup of hot and sour soup or egg flower soup and a fried spring roll. The portions are pretty good sized and you will be full! The food comes out pretty quickly so you are in and out pretty quick if you are limited on time during your lunch. Only downside I would say is the soup is never consistent....sometimes it is more thick and other times it is more watery. P.s. Be careful if you are vegetarian and order a veggie dish.....my co worker has found a piece of beef hidden under her veggie stir fry lunch special and that ruined her appetite..... so do check your veggie dishes before digging in. For the most part i really enjoy this place and I do come back often.

Yelp
Loooooved it!!! I'm from Hawaii and I've been looking for real authentic Chinese food and i'm glad to say, i've finally found it! Taste 10/10 and the owner is super nice! Thank you!!!

Yelp
I have to agree, the quality is no longer there. Hot and sour soup was mainly just salty with a slick of oil. Hand cut noodles were okay but again, super greasy and not a lot of flavor. Ma Po tofu was inedible. It also came with a half inch of oil floating on top and was overloaded with salt. The Szechuan shrimp was good but by then our pallets were blown. Super disappointed in the staff who could tell we barely touched the tofu and didn't want to take it home and still didn't ask if our meal was okay. Everything was considerably higher priced. I don't think we will be back.
google avatar

Ping K.

Yelp
I have been to this restaurant a few times. This round, quite disappointed! Not sure if salt was on sales or the chef just had a really bad day... (losing big in casino??) every dishes seemed to be on the salty side. My girlfriends can easily supported me on that. We ordered 5?dishes; an appetizer-cold cut beef(salty), Szechuan fish (salty), fried tofu (salty). The only 2 dishes that were not overly salty were Shanghai dumplings and pea tips stir fry. Another thing, the paper towel roll in the restroom; you have to pull the paper roll out off the dispenser with your wet hands. So imagine wet hands trying to pull papertowel off the dispenser.... (I might as well wipe my hands on my pants ...)

Yelp
So I went back to the restaurant and tried out the dan dan noodle. It came with 2 pepper spicy level and it was just right. I suppose you can always add more hot chili oil if you don't think it is hot enough. The dan dan noodle came with meat choice and I chose lamb which was good. However I am not sure if dan dan noodle was handmade in house. It seems like it was store bought. The flavor was good. For $7.95 I got a big bowl of noodle so it was a great deal. The fish I still like is menu item #25 under seafood $14.95. It is called Fish Fillet in hot and spicy gravy. This time I tried 5 pepper level and it was still manageable. I also tried the braised beef stew hotpot which was okay. I think it needs more beef and less tendon. The dish is $15.95 and I won't order this dish again. Each bowl of rice costs $1. The only reason I gave this restaurant a 4 stars was the service. The night I went there. I was served by a younger waiter who was not attentive nor helpful.

Yelp
After having eaten here twice, I'm still not entirely impressed. Having grown up eating at hundreds of Chinese restaurants, I feel like this place lacks the "it" factor. The menu seems half americanized, half traditional. Our first go around- chong qing hot chicken and szechuan style prawns. I didn't realized both would be battered and fried... not impressed by the preparation nor flavor. Our second go around- we ordered much better with the hot pot and fish but were floored by the prices of these dishes. The fish in spicy gravy was absolutely the best dish (although not digging the naming of "spicy gravy" to be honest) if I had to pick one but I will probably look elsewhere for a better all-around menu.

Yelp
Again quite surprised to find a genuine Sichuan place outside of major metropolises such as LA and NewYork. The taste here was very comparable to other great Sichuan joints.
