Visiting Columbia and ate here for the first time. Omg Sichuan style food here is terrible. Order grill fish and everything was sour and the fish is so dry. I love eating brown sugar rice cake. Somehow they managed to screw that up for me also. It has a hard outer shell. We couldn’t eat it anymore and brought the issue with the server. Instead of getting a manager to handle the issue, the server start the be defensive stating they sold a lot of grill fish everyday. We were in no mood of arguing and order 2 dessert so we can go home. And desserts are not edible. The rice wine rice ball taste stale with hardly any sweetness. If you want good food, go to Flushing!

They messed up my order. They also have two different pricing on delivery and dine in. They can’t do take out on any delivery app so I have to pick up myself in heat. We exchanged pick up number, and I asked the lady at the front desk you sure this is my order a few time. She seems irritated and then I went on subway and get back. Surprise surprise, my order was wrong and their food taste awful. Next time just go to flushing or China town because this one is awful

I ordered a “Homestyle Tofu w/ Sliced Pork” and fried rice on the side. The entree had a small cockroach, and no sliced pork was in the dish neither. Not a clean place, would not recommend.

Great food! Huge portion and flavorful. The staff was attentive. Was there on Monday afternoon by myself and had plenty to take home. Will come back if I crave for Szechuan food

If you like good Szechuan, this is the place. The menu is vast and eclectic. I enjoy hot spicy food. Searching the menu I found "griddled shrimp" that's it, no other description. This poc from the post is what I got and I can't stop thinking about the next time. It wasn't the normal heat, it made my mouth tingle not on fire like other things do. When I told the waitresses how I felt about the meal she said that any protein can be substituted for the shrimp. It was one of the best things I've eaten.

Update: Yesterday, I had lunch here and had a great experience. I ordered the Fish Fillet in Black Bean Sauce as well as the Hot and sour soup. It was a wonderful value at $12.95! I can’t wait to go back. I have been to Szechuan Garden many times for lunch and dinner. I always enjoy eating here - the value is great, the taste is delicious, and the service is quick. Most recently, I ordered the Hot and Sour soup and the Lightly Stir-Fried Cabbage for dinner. The Hot and Sour soup was flavorful and spicy. It’s one of the best Hot and Sour soups I’ve ever had! And the Lightly Stir-Fried Cabbage was so good! The cabbage was tender, and the flavor was fantastic. The portion was quite large, but I finished everything very quickly. :) I highly recommend Szechuan Garden!

Good experience here! I've been meaning to come for years. Started with egg drop soup and veggie spring roll. Egg drop soup was above average, could use a touch of salt but was extra yolky. Veggie spring roll was crunchy hot and fresh. For the mains, I went with the fried tofu wrapped in egg, mainly bc I wanted to keep it veg and wanted a dish I'd never had before. Anywho, the dish was a huge portion, and was essentially a well-done thin crepe that wrapped about a pound of soft tofu, bokchoy, and chestnuts. The whole thing was drenched in umami sauce. I thought it was pretty good! I wish it wasn't as drenched in sauce, but it tasted good, fresh, and worked better over rice. I'd definitely come back, perhaps try something spicier and crispier. Good first try, solid prompt service as well... thanks team!

Great quality Szechuan Chinese food! I Always order the Mapo Tofu and the Singapore Style Noodles. I'm usually not able to eat really spicy food but for me, this place is worth the pain. My favorites also include the Cumin Lamb, Soup Dumplings, Crispy Spring Rolls, Dan Dan Noodles, Lo Mein, and Sesame Chicken. It's nice to sit inside, but I usually just get pick-up/delivery as it's on my way home from work. Have brought family and friends and they also agree the menu is larger than a typical American-style Chinese restaurant, but they do have familiar items for people accustomed to less authentic cuisine. I definitely recommend trying as many different things from Szechuan Garden as you can.

Ordered the Dan Dan noodles and spicy Lo Mein to go- food was amazing. $27 total. Each could be its own meal- they really packed the containers to the brim. So glad I came here!! Yum.

Solid Chinese restaurant! I have only ordered takeout from this restaurant. My favorites: - Cold noodles - Ma po tofu I've also had the eggplant in garlic sauce, crab tofu, chongqing chicken, spinach with minced ginger, diced chicken with spicy garlic sauce and they were all great. I have not had the dan dan noodles at the restaurant, but they don't travel too well for takeout because the noodles get slightly too soft. (That's why the cold noodles are great for takeout!) I also was not a fan of the fish filet with pine nut in sweet vinegar sauce. It was slightly too sweet for my taste.

It was abnormally hot for October so we decided to grab some sesame cold noodles and they were good taste wise but I wish they were less dry and a bit overdone. We also tried the the pork soup dumplings which also were good taste wise but barley had soup in them. Also the vinegar was put in a bowl rather than something with an easy pour spout so it was hard to use. Service was amazing we got our drinks right away and checked on often. Loved the vibe of the place. Authentic and chill.

Best Chinese food in the neighborhood! I have been to many others and after being disappointed, always return here where the food is fresh, authentic and served hot. The service is always fast and attentive. It's easy to miss since it's just in, off the corner off Broadway down a few steps. Right around the corner from Silver Moon Bakery which is perfect for dessert.

Good food and good service. The place has a relaxed feel. Nothing fancy, but just right. Family friendly. We'll come back again.

Szechuan Garden is a gem for us uptown people. I have never had a bad dish. Granted I only eat Szechuan dishes (not the American Chinese takeout dishes). All the Szechuan dishes hit so good. I even asked them to make it spicy and they used Thai chilis. God it hurt so good. I've never been to the restaurant as I just order it via uber eats. But I sure as hell want to visit them now. Can't wait to order from them again!

Best Chinese in the neighborhood. Highly recommend the egg drop soup, the tofu wrapped in egg, the cumin lamb and the dan dan noodles.

There is a really good restaurant next to Columbia University. You can take the subway directly here it's really recommended I really recommend the lamp here.

Great lunch specials with hearty portions! I really enjoyed my double-cooked pork, which was very flavorful and the perfect amount of spice. The first time I had it, the pork was nicely seared, but the second time, it was a bit flabby and fatty. Leeks were used instead of garlic greens but still delicious! The fried rice I got with it is whatever, but just add the sauce/chili oil from your dish and voila! Transformed! Beef with long hot peppers was okay, a bit sweet, not as spicy and flavorful as others I've had but still good. Dan dan mian was pretty good--could use more meat sauce on top but the portion size was great. Food was always ready when I went to pick it up and staff are pretty agreeable. A good spot for some quick Sichuan food!

Got Uber ears from here.. the lo mein was bad.. the quality of Uber eats vs in restaurant could be different so not the biggest fan

The best Chinese restaurant near Columbia! Perfect authentic Szechuan food and great service and ambiance. The menu offers a wide variety of dishes, and it was evident the ingredients are of high quality. Love this place and would definitely come back.

I had high hopes for this place because of the location and thought this would be authentic Sichuan food. But no, the flavor isn't that good. It's not spicy and they add too much sugar in it which makes it taste odd

Delicious food came super fast and hot. Yes it's a bit pricey but the quality is 10 out of 10. This was my first time ordering delivery from then and I was not disappointed. So glad they are in the neighborhood!

I've tried this place multiple times since my last review. General tso shrimps are tasty and good portion Cumin lamb is great. Prawns in garlic fried again... description didn't say anything about mushrooms and broccoli... there were 8 prawns in here for 30 dollars... where as the general tso had about 20 prawns.... Please put in your Uber eats descriptions what's in the dish I wouldn't have wasted my money in these soggy veggies.

For most of the dishes that I tried, four stars is not nearly enough, however, some dishes should not be on the menu, such as soup dumplings which are a bad call here (I can get frozen soup dumplings and make them at home). No need to have them on the menu - There were other exceptions, but for the most part, everything else was great; the superstar was cumin lamb. Crispy cucumber (super simple, super fresh ), and chengdu wonton were also both very good. Service was good and kind. I brought cupcakes for my daughter's birthday - they said no problem, brought out plates and helped me light my candles. So kind. The decor is obviously not the priority here. Definitely recommend and looking forward to going back and trying more dishes.

I got takeout at this place for lunch for me and my dad and the lunch specials are pretty affordable ($12/each) but I feel like the portions could be bigger (half my portion of twice-cooked pork was vegetable). The food did come out very quickly and it seems popular with students from Columbia nearby :)

Very averaged Chinese restaurant. Nothing special at all. Some of the food are not authentic while some are okay. salty and greasy.

Food is really delicious and I love them very much. I love the spicy food. It has good service and the employees are very friendly and nice. I love the music background too and it really clean.

Good food in the Broadway and 105th street, a walking distance from Columbia University. Spicy szechuan food is delicious.

Szechuan Garden has become a staple order in spot at our hospital. They delivers food hot and fast! I ordered Stir Fry Beef with Scallions and it was pretty good! However I was surprised that it was not spicy at all. If you are looking for a more mild taste then this would be a good meal to try.

The food here is amazing and authentic. Their dry stir-fried fish is the best I have found around Columbia campus--it is both crispy and a perfect mixture of spice and flavor. Another recommendation is their baby eggplant in spicy garlic sauce. It is a must-have if you want to include some veggies in your meal and/or like eggplants. For carbs go for the Singaporean stir fry noodles: ask for extra curry sauce if you like that extra oomph in your food! Double cooked pork was average: not that special. Too many onions and too little meat. Pricing is affordable considering the portion size. Note: they only give rice for the dishes that are not noodle or fried rice dishes, but rice is a must-have for most of their dishes since it's so flavorful (costs 1.50).

So this review isn't about the food but the service that we received today. I used to come here when I went to Columbia on a daily basis, but after I graduated I didn't come back here for awhile now. The service we received today by 1 of the female waitresses was just average at best, so I decided to only give her a 12% tip. She saw this and proceeded to say this is not acceptable and wanted to force me to change the amount I gave her. I told her that her service was average and that I didn't want to change the amount, so she proceeded to argue with me and said I didn't have a choice and had to give her a higher tip. I really liked this restaurant and have always had a great experience there, but this waitress really changed my view of the business.

Went here for CNY and it was pretty good! There's not a ton of good Chinese food uptown but I thought this was good and would come back. It was a tad bit too salty but the flavors were legit. They have us an extra rice cake dish they were making for CNY. They were quite busy that evening but still very good! They only offered tea or water but you couldn't get both. Overall decent real Szechuan food uptown!

Szechuan food is one of my favorite cuisine and this place did not disappoint. Was craving for some spicy and Málà Chinese food while in the area and this place delivered. We ordered a bunch of dishes including sautéed string beans, spicy garlic eggplant, fish fillet in numbing spicy broth and everything was spicy and yummy. And also the portion was beyond generous for the price and also the food came out super hot and fast. The only thing we ordered that we didn't like (not pictured) was the tofu with crab meat. It did not have any crab inside and was lack in flavor. Service was also super friendly. Definitely recommended

This is one of the best Chinese restaurants I've eaten at. The cashew chicken and fish were outstanding, however the fried rice that came with it was subpar. I've noticed that the food is much better when you eat at the restaurant than when you get take out. Highly recommend this place.

Aug 2022: Authentic and excellent Chongqing-style spicy fish filet. Large portion size fit for two. Do try the herbal jelly as well, it's a classic dessert from the region.

The fish was so so good! fresh and tender. The spice is also just right. Definitely one of the most authentic sichuan dish I've tried so far.

Terrific Sechuan food, with a bit of Shanghai or Cantonese on occasion. Staff are great. But most important, cooking authentic and menu very large. Ask whether there are any specials, because some nights there are.

I had a delicious kong pal chicken lunch special from here. It also came with a crispy spring roll. Good portion and cooked very fast. If you are in the upper west side and looking for some authentic Szechuan cuisine with some American characteristics, look no further

Ordered delivery on Christmas and was overwhelmed with the amount of food we received and the scrumptious array of menu items.

Delicious authentic Szechuan! The baby eggplant was perfectly cooked, you could even taste the char of the grill. Beware that The fish in chili oil is large enough to serve four people! The vegetables included were a perfect compliment as were the peppercorns - my mouth is still tingling! Best Chinese in the area!

I came here for a Lunar New Year dinner with my parents a few nights ago. The staff nice and very helpful throughout the experience, namely providing recommendations from the menu and assisting with carving the fish. Our meal consisted of veggie dumplings, shrimp rice noodles, the whole fish in the red chili paste, the snow peas, and a few drinks. Everything was very good-- I especially liked the snow peas, as they remind me of my childhood. The red chili paste was a bit sweet for my liking, but the fish was cooked nicely and went well with the rest of the meal nevertheless. I ordered the passionfruit smoothie, which was refreshing and enjoyable even for a cold night. I am accustomed to ordering in, but the atmosphere was quite nice-- I do not regret going out and I will definitely be back.

Dissapointed, never going here again. Waitress had same glove she took out garbage with. Bad, I mean awful food. Burned garlic, a squid that tasted like plastic. Am getting stomache pains now.
