OK, so I was in the mood for some comfort food and college football, so I decided to try T-Bones Sports Pub. I ended up going 3 times.
Short version: a relaxed, divey, 21-and-up biker-bar-type of sports pub where the beer is cold, the food is awesome and you can enjoy your favorite pigskin classics with like-minded individuals.
Long version: Having reached that wonderful day of the week known as "Diet Cheat Day," I decided to go to T-Bones after seeing it from the outside for years.
I'm glad I did. This place is a hidden gem!
For starters, it's strictly 21 and older. No brats allowed. (Thank you Jesus!)
NOTE: For all you helicopter parents who are going to send me nasty messages full of bad words, I was not referring to YOUR kids, ok? It's those OTHER people's kids - you know, the ones that run around and scream and make life generally miserable for the rest of us in the eating establishment.
Frankly, I'm glad that T-Bones (as well as Cuchara) puts it out there that it's adults-only. In fact, during one of my dining experiences there, a gentleman came in and asked the bartender if they could accommodate a party of six "with a four-year-old, if that's OK." (His words.)
The bartender politely yet firmly told this clueless man what "21 and up" meant and that they were sorry, but no dice on the kid. Even when the guy said the kid was "well-behaved," the bartender still put the kibosh on it.
A "well-behaved" four-year-old? Right. And I'm Lady Gaga. But I digress.
So it's a great place for adults. Now on to the food.
I've got to say that it's some of the best pub grub in Houston. No kidding. It puts other places like Twin Peaks, Hooters and other sports pubs to shame. Plus, their burgers make Christian's Tailgate look like freakin' amateurs.
The burgers on Sunday are usually on special - they're called the "Recovery Burger" and it includes a big seasoned patty with all the trimmings, applewood bacon and a fried egg on top. WOWZA! Eat it if you dare - it's delicious!
I also came here on a Monday night for both the Texans game and their Monday Steak Dinner special - a big 12-oz ribeye steak with two sides (including baked potato) and salad for only $15. Un-freakin-believable! I waddled home after that very content.
The other items I can recommend are the buffalo wings (perfectly seasoned) and the queso dip.
NOTE: If you grew up in the 1980s and ate at Bennigan's, this is the EXACT SAME RECIPE (or at least a close facsimile of it). I blissed out on the chips and queso and felt time roll back 30 years. MMM, MMM! Hot, gooey cheddar and Colby with bits of pepper in it.
Their sandwiches are also da bomb dot com. On one particular Saturday, I didn't want to fill up on anything heavy, so the nice lady bartender recommended the BLT.
I'm grateful for her advice - it was DELISH!! Pics attached if you don't believe me. Lots of bacon on Texas toast, crispy lettuce, juicy tomatoes, lots of mayo - I could go on and on but the drooling will start any minute now.
So - will I be back? You bet your life! This place is on my permanent file. Now, onto the Bowl season!
