Taano House describes itself as “an Austin non-alcoholic cocktail bar offering botanical drinks that promote relaxation and euphoria without the hangover.”
Taano House specializes in exotic drinks, which may seem reductive but for a newbie like me is exactly what I felt like I was drinking. The Wild Weed, with wild dagga, cucumber, and lemon juice, was exhilarating. Fresh and light, with the right amount of bounce.
Kava is a South East Asian elixir that is used for its natural healing properties. Joe has what many consider the best in Austin. I’m gonna be very honest, I have no reference point at all, but Joe took the time to explain the history and medicinal properties. The kava was definitely different, but in a good way. Earthy and opaque, it also had a very Szechuan like mouthfeel. Very nice.
Now, as a completely even extreme novice, what’s most comforting is the amount of knowledge and patience Joe, the owner and operator, has for educating folks. I stayed for a while and his confidence and technical knowledge from the specificity of his product to the typical dosages and uses, so many new people seemed less apprehensive, while supposed pros who tried to question his expertise were humbled.
If you are looking for a trip through non alcoholic beverages but want a nice experience with the hangover, I recommend Taano House on 6th Street. Confident, non pushy, and friendly. Thanks Joe!
