Taco Mac Virginia Highlands

Ordered through Postmates and got this sad excuse from Taco Mac. They only gave us eight wings (out of the ten we ordered), didn’t even include the ‘79 sauce for the philly egg roll and all the food was packaged horribly and was cold. Very disappointed. Not ordering from here again. Also, Postmates wasn’t going to do anything except give the restaurant feedback. Which is ridiculous. Don’t bother ordering from this restaurant or through Postmates.

I took a few business associates to lunch on Wednesday at 1:30 pm. The restaurant was relatively empty and yet the food took a bit longer than it should have. Everyone enjoyed their meals and the Brussel sprouts were particularly delicious - sweet, vinegar, salt - great side.

Avoid this location!! Very disgusted with the service as well as the food that was given to me for a to go order that I tipped 30% on and picked up myself. Awful management leads to poor service I blame the management . I will be calling corporate tomorrow and making them aware of this awful experience and the poor management leading this team

Perpetually messes up orders (like giving you wrong food, forgetting to give a driver half the food or ignoring a table entirely), it's bad whether you dine in, pick up or do door dash. Love the wings but it's hard to find worse service.

After hearing about this being the first taco Mac location and it being so close to home, I knew I had to come visit this location. As soon as we entered, we were greeted by great and fast customer service by Claire. The food was good and the vibes were good. She made the whole experience great, typically we don’t get very good customer service at taco Mac but Claire was the best we ever had!

Wings were good. Our server Carmen was good as well.

Tl;Dr - This is THE ORIGINAL Taco Mac. The menu and everything is typical of other Taco Macs but this place is extremely small and as such it has a few drawbacks like a seemingly smaller beer selection and a slower kitchen. That said, it is an experience! This location has apparently been here since 1979 and when I tell you not much has changed in that time, believe it! They do have plenty of modern TVs and somewhat serviceable patio heaters but that is about where the updates end. I honestly never knew this Taco Mac existed until a month or so ago when we were looking for a Trivia Spot and it popped up. The first time we went there I remarked that it was the smallest Taco Mac I had ever seen and now I know why, because it is the original location and it's been here forever. Keep the size in mind though. It can be hard to get a table inside during peak times, and possibly outside as well. The heaters out there work okay but we were right under one the other day when it was about 40 outside and I was pretty uncomfortable by the time we left. The food that I have had has been pretty good overall. Mostly chicken wings, but the sides have been good as were the fried pickles, and the burgers look good though I've never had one. I did try a taco once and it wasn't the best, and my wife keeps ordering wraps and salads, none of which look amazing but IMO that is her fault trying to eat something healthy at a sports bar. The service is hit-or-miss. It seems like they have some issues with turnover. We have always been there during trivia so not sure if that is more or less busy than average but the quality seems to hinge more on the server than how busy they are. All that said, I'm only guessing but assuming their kitchen is very small so food will probably be slow at prime time as they also have a healthy takeout business and you can only fry so many chicken wings at a time. The size is also why inattentive servers puzzle me because there just aren't that many tables or space to cover. I used to wait tables so I feel like I can fairly judge a service situation and there isn't really a good reason why someone shouldn't be attentive at this location. Anyhow, it's a cool spot and historic if you've ever been to a Taco Mac so give it a shot if you're in the area!

I had one of my best experiences at THIS Taco Mac! First of all, our server, Monie (pronounced moan-ee), was excellent, friendly, attentive & on top of things. The wings this time around were big, meaty, juicy & delicious. The last time I was there a couple of months ago, they were nothing to write home about & the Ranch dressing was bland. If you’re familiar with their Ranch, it’s homemade & garlicky, just the way I love it - this time it did Not disappoint 😃. I tried 2 new wing flavors, Spicy Garlic & Asian Sweet Heat they both rocked! I also had a side of broccoli, that was Meh - over cooked in my opinion.l, but their fries are excellent (something else to try if you enjoy fries, some of the best) Overall it was a great experience & I think you should check it out. Note: With the closing of the Decatur location I’m wondering if some of the kitchen staff transferred over- they seemed to be under staffed in the past. So happy with my last meal there. One last thing, I really wish they’d get more dark beers in (porters, etc) Tis the season! Prado location seems to have more, not sure if they’re owned by the same owners…. Plus not one Winterfest beer???

Limited small parking spots out front... street parking is scarce, but available. The spot is quaint and has multiple TVs throughout. Seating consist of three regular booths, multiple high tops, and one big family style booth. Server was nice. We ordered wings, fries, mac and cheese, cheese sticks, crispy brussel sprouts, and a burger. The food left a lot to be desired... and the floor was quite slippery. Overall the experience was not awesome. (The manager on duty, however, was awesome.) Unfortunately I do not recommend.

Taco Mac's food quality is in a decline- especially for delivery orders. On April 14- around midnight- I ordered the Chicken Tinga Nachos through UberEats. I have had this dish several times and it is one of my favorites. Unfortunately, this order had severe quality issues. First, nachos did not look like the picture at all. The dish is supposed to be creamy, white, and cheesy. What I got was red, watery, and inedible. The nachos smelled like vinegar and tasted as if it was soured or about to turn bad. There was little or no cheese so it wasn't creamy at all. There were also big chunks of chicken in it. Disgusting. Never again.

This Taco Mac location is the all time worst. Your order is guaranteed to be cold, missing something or both. Don't waste your money on takeout or delivery.

We ate here on Saturday. I ordered three tacos: beef, chicken and bbq shrimp. They were just okay. I was a little disappointed and expected something more because the restaurant name has the words Taco in it. My husband ordered a burger called The Fox which was absolutely delicious! The burger was better than the tacos. Wait time was a little lengthy because it was crowded.

Food was horrible. Service was ok. I would not go to any Taco Mac ever again. Lemon Pepper wings had enough seasoning to make you drink a water fall (not recommended) it was bad.

Have been coming here for years. Noticed the last few visits a decline in service, cleanliness and food quality. Today we were disappointed. Nachos were not warmed completely and cheese was cold. Wings were over cooked and way too crispy. We waited so long just for someone to take our order. Staff was un attentive and food sat ready on counter at least a good 5 minutes getting cold and hard. We were ready to go at this point and sorry to say after many years may not return. This spot could definitely use a revamping! Need some new chairs and tables and a good old fashion head to toe cleaning.

My wife & I used to live in Va. Highlands & for 20 years regularly walked up to Taco Mac to enjoy the delicious food. In fact, we were there when OJ Simpson drove for hours & we watched it on the TV outdoors. We were regulars. 12 years ago, we moved & have not been back till last night. We were looking forward to a delicious meal. We started with an order of chips & salsa. They were the worst tasting chips we'd ever had. I was hungry, so I ate a bunch. We both ordered the steak quesadilla. The first piece I had had about 3 pieces of marinated steak smaller than the size of a dime. The marinate was terrible. The next piece had a lot more steak but was still awful. What happened to a VaHi institution. We will never return. NEVER.

Decent local wings chain. However other than the wings being fresh from scratch, therefore maybe the best wings I've ever had, it was a bit grubby and the menu was odd and the beer selection sucked. Great service.

We used to order from Taco Mac every weekend through GrubHub - we got the veggie quesadillas and tater tots. Literally every weekend for probably a year, the food was delicious. Then, all of a sudden, they started giving half the amount of tater tots and messed up the quesadillas. This happened 3 times in a row. We no longer order from them.

Service was basically null. Sat at the bar and saw the bartender maybe twice. Took forever just to get the drink since she was never behind the bar. Waited on food over an hour. And tables were not even full. The workers seemed chaotic and disorganized. The food was ok but something strange was found in the Brussel sprouts- looked like a cat claw... ewww. The only saving Grace and why I rated them a 2, is that they took the food charge off for us, which was absolutely justified.

4 people, 50 wings. Very long wait. Wings came very under seasoned. Spicy garlic? More like cooking oil. Lemon pepper? More like cooking oil. Buffalo? More like red 40 and cooking oil. Wasn't super busy, but took a long time for wings. Server was very nice. Store was clean for the most part.

I've been a fan of TacoMac for some time and I would always find one when I came to the Atlanta area. This was my first time at the original in Virginia Highlands. One thing that I appreciated about this location was that it was more intimate than any other TacoMac that I've been to. The service was great, and the food was good and brought out in a timely manner. Quality experience from start to finish.

You won't be disappointed drinks all good food good portion, and very delicious. Arrives at a timely matter.

Wow - I don't know how this place survives within 100 yards of George's, Mo's and Joe's, Highland Tap . . . Absolutely confused service, cold food, lots of employees but just hanging together not doing anything. Pls close and let some new blood into the neighborhood. I have never ever left a review like this but still stunned 6 hours later.

Legit laughable please don't come here haha just know this is awful 45 minutes for chips and queso hahahaha half the restaurant is covered in dirty plates just don't have the patience to even comment hahaha so bad

Have been going here and to their other locations for years. Tonight the service was horrible, even in today's post Covid world for what you should expect. Orders were wrong. When problems were brought to manager's attention, all we got was a simple apology. There appeared to be enough wait staff and it was a Monday night, so not crowded. The facilities seemed to be updated since our last visit and the manager seemed new. However, as the flagstone location for Taco Mac you would think they would have been better managed vs what we experienced tonight.

The whole experience was terrible. We were seated at a table for six and the entire staff seemed to give us disapproving looks. The guacamole was discolored, the chips were extremely salty, and my friend found a hair on her plate. The server was very unprofessional, sitting down at our table while taking our order. Other servers were overheard saying, "I'm ready to leave, why are these people still here?" It was a terrible experience overall. This establishment should be closed down.

My hubby and I visit the Highland area at least 3-4 times a month. We love the area and the barhopping-type atmosphere. I can not leave without giving our beautiful bartender Alexis a big ups. The 2nd time we visited she remembered us immediately down to our drinks and food that's a plus for us. We have not had a bad experience thus far, the regulars are just a little to talkative but that's what sipping does to you. The wings are service is epic Di & Zo #weareregularsnow

We have visited many of the taco Mac locations. The service here is superior to all my f the others in Atlanta. Chevy was on top of everything. He was friendly and even told us some fun trivia.

I've been craving wings lately and tried Taco Mac's because they were opened later than most places are recently. I had the wet lemon pepper and Parmesan garlic. They were "neater" than most wings if that's a way to describe wings but before I was done I felt there was way too much butter. They were tiny too. I ordered via UberEATS so no ordering more like you could at the restaurant. This location is one of the best of this chain but very little parking.

Very meat centric for a pescatarian, however they do have impossible burger substitutes, as well as shrimp options for tacos and a fish plate. There are some veggie options for vegetarians. Food was good and good portions. Their large menu makes it possible for people to find something they will like, but it is more pub/bar food and definitely an interesting mix of options. Even though names taco mac, they are known for their wings.

This was may fault for ordering form VH Taco Mac again - we stopped going for a bit because they couldn't get order correct - well they are still batting 1000% - baffles me that they are so incompetent. How hard is it to get 10 - Lemon pepper, 10 Habanero, and 10 regular BBQ correct? No we get 20 Habanero - yeah, the ticket reads correct but the order is wrong. The first 15 years in VH it was a great place now there is no pride - even had a steak sandwich with moldy bread a bit. Again my fault for trying it again

This place is MISERABLY bad. Unreal. Staff post-10 PM is all about just hanging out with friends in the bar instead of taking orders from patrons. Ordered 4 drinks total, 3 of which were beers. Waited 20 minutes post ordering to even get looked at. It's absolutely insane. This place is a cesspool and SHOULD BE AVOIDED AT ALL COSTS.

I was a regular but stopped because they can't seem to get my order correct the past 5 times I went and they have a very transphobic server who misgenderes me.

Some friends and I went here because they signed an agreement to be a part of a deal where customers buy wristbands for deals on Halloween night to visit different bars. We arrived at taco Mac to an extremely frustrated female manager who, despite being told of the wristbands, said they weren't capable of serving any customers for the rest of the night and honestly just had a horrible attitude. Do not eat here.

TERRIBLE! The workers are NASTY.. their attitudes are disgusting... the wait for the food is ridiculous. the chicken is rubbery.. the cooks don't wear masks. The kitchen is FILTHY! Beware eating here... yuck.

Well I'm never getting food from this location again. I placed an online order at this location because the one closer to me wasn't available. I get there and inform (who I believe to be) the host of my online order and my name. She searched around then came back and asked me what I ordered. Moments later she came back and told me that someone had already taken my order. She says this as she proceeds to walk out to the patio to continue small talk with friends or customers ( I couldn't tell). I asked her how is this was the case and she said she doesn't know. I then say that I placed my order online and it doesn't make sense. Another worker came from the back and told her that she was looking in the wrong spot and that I was not door dash or Uber eats. The hosts then insinuated that I should've informed her of this --- as if I work there ? I got to my car very annoyed and opened the box to see three very small tacos smooshed together as if it was one. No limes on the side. There was barely any sauce in the containers given. I've never gotten to-go tacos that looked like this. You can't afford the extra foil to wrap tacos individually? Due to this, they were soggy. There was barely anything in the tacos either. I will NOT be going back .

Placed a to go order in person for a Buffalo chicken sandwich meal with fries. This is what I got. Place was empty, waited 20 mins.. for me to not even get what I paid for. No blue cheese, ranch, fries that I paid for.. nothing. I'm confused.

Last night I had the worst service I have ever had in my life. It took 45 minutes to get the beers we ordered, another hour to get our food, and neither of my wing flavors were correct. I didn't want to get it corrected because I knew I would be waiting another hour, but our waitress didn't even offer to fix it, just said "sorry." We asked our waitress to change the channel of one of the numerous amount of TVs to ESPN, to watch a game we went there for. She never changed it - we asked FIVE separate times. Our waitress checked on us so little I had to go up to the bartender to ask for a refill of water, which she wouldn't do - just asked which table we were at. Never got a refill to help me eat my very hot wings that I did not order. We ordered another round of 23 oz beers, 45 min later and numerous times watching our waitress just chilling (keep in mind the restaurant was empty) we finally got it - except they were 12 oz beers. As expected, we were charged for 23 oz beers nevertheless. I am never returning to this taco Mac.

ordered on uber eats, $15 nachos (guac is extra $3, did not receive the guac) for about 5 spoons of nacho sauce??? and it came here cold?? a bit ridiculous for the price especially if you're not going to do the order right.

I came in to pick up a takeout order. At the bar I was told it would be about five minutes. After about 20 minutes at the bar I flagged someone down and asked about the food. They immediately returned with it and told me that no one has told them I was waiting. The original server I spoke with was sitting 10 feet away at a table playing on her phone the entire time I was there. Bartender hadn't been at the bar in at least 10 minutes. I saw 3 servers and a bartender. The servers were mostly sitting at tables playing on their phones. The bartender went in the back with an ice cream cone about 5 minutes after I arrived, and i never saw her again. There were a total of 4-7 guests in the entire restaurant while I was there, so they weren't exactly busy. I never saw a manager. Thanks for wasting my time and letting the food get cold while I was sitting there waiting on it.

Wouldn't it be great if people understood how restaurants work before whining about them on the internet? Came today before and after my nail appointment across the street to get some drinks and food- was greeted promptly, had some great drinks and lovely service. Almost every person who was working who came across me had a smile and a greeting. This was an excellent experience and I'll be sure to be back. Maybe before writing multiple bad Yelp reviews you should stop and wonder if maybe you're the problem? But what do I know?

Horrible service. So slow. Terrible music too. Took 20 minutes to even get a hello then waited another 7 minutes to get waters and menus.

They have completly lost their Mojo. Extensive beer selection is now down to a few beers; no Heineken. No Fat Tire. No Bud. Out of Stella. Lame beer menu now. It was late afternoon on weekday, our waitron had 2 tables of customers. Several orders of wings were requested. The ppl at next table that came in after us received and ate our wings. Subject waitron drops by and asks "did yall order food"? Well, yes we did. 30 minutes ago. Right here. From you. I will state again, the waitron had two tables...Do better TacoMac. You completly lost us as customers...lame beer, lame service.

It was bad enough when ordering delivery via the 9 app services they subscribe to as delivery partners; NEVER managed to get each item order delivered. Excuses were pointed at delivery person, to the store not putting it in to begin with. WHO CARES: end result over 6months was not a single order had everything is was supposed to include. -1 star Then the highly standardized... typical CHAIN design menu is not objectionable and when they actually make things as the picture recipe says; Food is quite good and won fat me over to be a HUGE FAN... of their catfish, quesadillas, and tried some others, but ADDICTED to their pulled pork sliders ordering them multiple times a week for months. Then sliders disappeared from ANY app , online menu, etc. Entering week two of slider withdrawals... . I called the local location. I learned that delivery customers are not valued and they actively discourage take out. I was told "SLIDER are no problem. but we only serve them to dine-in guests" So you have to wonder if they just flip off a huge section of their clientele that helped them survive the extended pandemic...... (your welcome btw Taco Mac). Doubt they care much more for any customer. They will refuse you if you walk in and place a TO GO order yourself, cuz i asked if i could do that. They clearly don't care about their customers wants or withdrawal agony. Heartless... Heartless, and while they clearly get everything off the CISCO frozen supply company; THEY did do a good job presenting it in tasty edible and semi-reliable format. Why you you be mean and hurtful to us take out/delivery people taco mac.. Why oh Why...... #TakeOutSliderLoversMatter

This place was nothing but amazing the ambience the scene the location all five stars. I was blown away at the service I received from Callie. I asked for a straw and immediately she dropped EVERYTHING she was doing and came to give me it. She sprinted full speed from the kitchen!!!!! I began eating my burger and to my surprise I had no condiments, I immediately shouted for Callie. As she ran to my table I exclaimed I needed ketchup and Mayonnaise. Without a question she stopped in her tracks and hurdled THREE customers to get to me (not to mention she was carrying a full tray of beers and didn't spill a DROP!). Best service in town, if you're ever here ask for Callie ( AND TIP HER WELL!)

Came in at 3:00 on a Saturday- group of 11 so I understand the difficulty serving us but that's kinda what you do at Tmac. Was there for 2.5 hours, no exaggeration. Only leaving a review because my Card got charged a week later for a mysterious $18.00. Trying to charge me twice when I paid for my meal during my initial 2 hour visit. Big fan of Tmac but never returning to this location.

We got to Atlanta earlier than expected from Knoxville and this was the only restaurant in the neighborhood that was open- I was very pleasantly surprised. o server greeted us immediately upon walking inside, and she continued to be excellent throughout our entire visit. The Chatahoochee burger was DELICIOUS! I wish I had been able to finish the whole thing. This will definitely be a spot we come back to!

5:15 on a Sunday afternoon. Sat on the nit busy patio for twenty minutes and the server with the pretty long braids refused to look at us or acknowledge our presence. So we left. Don't need to say more than that.

Wings were not done fully & fries were half done most of the fries were cold in the middle unable to finish meal.

Warm Hospitality and Cold Beer! Taco Mac has been my favorite chain restaurant in Atlanta and did missed the ambience and the food when I moved to Dallas 2 years back. When my daughter suggested Taco Mac when we were visiting, I said a big YES! This restaurant is smaller than the other Taco Mac's I have visited (Dunwoody or Alpharetta) but offers the same warm service. The menu and the beer list was limited but what was served was excellent. Our order included, Chicken Tinga Tacos, Claremont Burger, Boneless Wings, with a side of Fries and Mac'n'Cheese. The food arrived fairly quickly and was cooked to perfection. I had the Claremont Burger that was honestly stacked quite high, with two patties, a fried egg, bacon, tomatoes and cheese but stacked well. Each bite got some of each.

Took us 25 minutes to get our water and beer. Our waiter has long black painted nails and he's been throwing everyone else under the bus, bartender, etc. We've been coming here before concerts, etc. for years and this will be our last visit. Restaurant needs massive overhaul and cleaning and some customer service training. Still waiting on food after 30 minutes. Can't blame this on Covid. Virginia Highlands is bustling but this place is at a total crawl.

I ordered from here to improve my mood after a rough week and this made it even worse. The tacos were bland and the tater tots we ordered had no potato inside it was literally just hard greasy shells. Nothing here is worth the money I'd go to any other place for wings & tacos. This was my first & last time eating here.

We ordered 60 wings on NYE in advance to be picked up at 6:45pm. The order was not ready when we got there and we had to wait another HOUR for our order. It was place at 1:30pm that day. No confirmation was ever sent to us or refund offered after they clearly messed up. The servers just said "talk to corporate". I've been trying to contact someone with cooperate to get a refund because once we did wait for our order - it was wrong. Will not be ordering like this again. Definitely expected more from a place that I love and apparently does catering.

Not a busy night at all. Fully staffed servers and a bartender. One manager. We ordered food and 30 minutes later our server said 5 more minutes. 15 minutes later I asked a different server what was up. I peaked in the back and our server and a cook were just standing around. The other server said a cook just walked off. And they just decided to forget about our order. I said we were gonna leave and I thought they wouldn't have charged us for the Diet Coke and beer but they did. Then once they knew we were leaving they asked if we wanted a dessert to go. Horrible place will never return or recommend. The manager didn't even come up to apologize. Then our sever hovered while we signed the check. Not sure if she was really expecting a tip. Here's one. Don't hover while we sign the check and don't leave your only table you had hangin.

Do yourself a favor and skip this place. They'll tell you to sit anywhere then forget you're actually there, forget what you order, bring you the wrong thing then take another 20mins to bring you the right stuff. Easily, you'll be here 1.5hrs.
