Absolutely terrible experience at Taco Maya. The taco I ordered had old, dried-out meat that tasted like it had been sitting out all day. The quesadilla was a joke — just plain bread with cheese, no veggies, no flavor, nothing. And the margarita? Couldn’t taste a drop of alcohol in it. Felt like I paid for flavored water. We deeply regret spending our money here. Would not recommend this place to anyone. Total disappointment.

Taco MAYA is a super clean, neat, and inviting spot—perfect for a late-ish night meal. We tried the taco meal and a few individual tacos: carnitas, grilled chicken, al pastor, and ground beef. The carnitas were my favorite—really flavorful. Grilled chicken and al pastor were decent, but the ground beef wasn’t my thing (though others at the table loved it, so to each their own!). Great selection of dipping sauces and everything was reasonably priced. They’ve also got some nice deals on Mondays and Tuesdays. Solid place all around!

Very tasty food. Service was a bit delayed. Nice fusion of Mexican and Indian food. Would return.

Google
We had an excellent experience here! Everyone really enjoyed the food… Some very unique Indian inspired tacos too! I had the Samosa tacos, they were great! We finished our experience with the fried ice cream- also delish! Amazing salsas too! Super clean, a little sterile as far as ambience- but still cute. Super clean bathroom too- Staff was exceptional! They have a daily taco special- and even have good happy hour pricing on select drinks…

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ We had a wonderful experience, thanks to our server Gaby! She was incredibly attentive, friendly, and made sure everything was perfect throughout our meal. Gaby had great recommendations, kept our drinks full, and made us feel genuinely welcome. Her warm personality and professionalism made the evening even more enjoyable. Thank you, Gaby, for your excellent service—we’ll definitely be back! From cherry 🍒

Google
Friendly staff and a wide variety of tacos and Mexican food, some of which seem to combine some Indian flavors, which is cool. I look forward to trying more items. The flan dessert is quite delicious, which is respectable since not a lot of flans in the city are top quality. The interior is a little sparse, but clean. They’re a bit newer and still getting settled in, but it’s a larger space good for larger groups and families I think.

Google
I cannot speak on the dine in service since we did take out. Ordered burrito, torta, tostadas and fries. Burrito and torta seemed decent. My order of tostadas was sad. It’s supposed to have a spread of beans and cheese on it which is hardly on there at all. More tomatoes and lettuce than anything else. The only thing that saved them was that the steak is good. But the tostadas overall should have not been sent out so skimpy. I won’t order those again, especially paying near 20 for that. French fries are also just okay. Super soggy but the seasoning saves them. I would give a 3 1/2 but not a 4 star.

Google
I has an incredible experience at this taco spot, thanks in large part of the exceptional service provided by Gaby. From the moment I arrive she was friendly attentive and genuinely passionate about ensuring I had the best possible experience. She went above and beyond by offering personalized recommendations, checking on me throughout my meal and making me feel truly valued as a customer, warm demeanor, and dedication to excellent service made my visit memorable, and I’d highly recommend this place not just for the delicious tacos, but also for their outstanding hospitality Gaby and the team provided.

Yelp
Greta quality and service. I really enjoyed the food. I recommend coming here again. One of the best Mexican spots!

Yelp
Taco Maya - Burrito & Horchata Review I stopped by Taco Maya for a quick bite and decided to try their burrito and horchata--absolutely amazing! The burrito was generously packed with flavorful, perfectly seasoned ingredients. Each bite was a perfect balance of tender meat, fresh veggies, and just the right amount of creamy guacamole and spicy salsa. You could tell everything was made with care. The horchata? Wow. It was sweet, refreshing, and had that perfect touch of cinnamon. It paired so well with the burrito and was the ideal way to cool down after the spice kicked in. The staff was super friendly, and the service was quick. If you're craving authentic Mexican flavors, Taco Maya is definitely the spot. I'll be back to try more from their menu!

Yelp
Definitely a great place to get some late night eats in. I love that. They have some Indian fusion tacos. My favorite tacos are the Samosa taco and the Nashville cauliflower one. My husband loves the al pastor burrito. if you're looking to indulge, the loaded fries are also delicious when you go in, you can get unlimited salsa from the salsa bar, and they have multiple very delicious options ranging from mild to spicy, depending on what you like. Definitely worth checking out the next time you're looking for a late night meal. I have tried all of their locations and the quality is always great!

Yelp
I want to give this spot a 3.5 star but there isn't so settling for a 4 star. I have driven by so many times and noticed it on Ashland but never tried it. They had a board saying $1 taco Mondays so that got me in. Very clean place and plenty of space to sit. Sadly the day we went, their heater wasn't working as it was being repaired so they were only doing take out. The $1 taco is only the samosa taco which by the way is EPIC. I know I'm not a fan of fusion food (I'm trying to better understand lately why and what about it I don't like so much............or do I?). Absolutely LOVED that taco. A FANTASTIC way of getting people to come in. They have a big fusion menu where India meets Mexico. We ordered two samosa tacos and a paneer fajita. What was fantastic about this location was that they have a self serve salsa station where they have I think 5 or 6 different kinds of salsas. We really liked the fajitas but there were two things that were a slight miss on it. a. The avocados were slightly less fresh. Had started getting that weird taste. b. The paneer was not quite fresh. It wasn't soft and succulent (wasn't rock hard either). Other than these 2 things, I think it's a great place to go for a weeknight quick meal. Definitely trying out some of their other stuff soon.

Yelp
So, mom and I wanted tacos for lunch, and this tiny place has 3 parking spots so we gave it a try. It's in a very small outdoor mall - with 2 other businesses. They had 2 tables outside, but really you'd be sitting in the parking lot. Inside is unassuming, with more seating that you would think. We placed our order at the counter and then went to sit down. They brought out fresh, warm taco chips very quickly and we tried several of the "serve ourself" salsas from the salsa bar. I really enjoyed the tomatillo green salsa, but I'm not into anything too spicy. I had a 3 taco plate - Carnitas, Al Pastor and Shrimp. I'd say the Shrimp was the best of the 3. The Al Pastor was good as well, but the Carnitas was very dry. Mom has 2 of the special tacos - Cajun Shrimp and Korean Beef. the special tacos were much better than the originals. I highly. recommend both the Korean and the cajun shrimp. As mom and I like to day drink, we tried the margarita flight (yes, with tequila). I'm sorry I didn't get a picture of them, as I don't remember which one I liked the best. They were all nice, but not your typical margarita. When done, take your tray back to the counter. Come for the tacos, and try a marg.

Yelp
Taco Maya was the perfect little spot to grab some really good tacos and reprieve from the outside heat on a recent visit to Chicago. Like most places in the city there isn't much parking but they do have a surface lot that offered several spots. The inside is cute and simply decorated and the team member that greeted us was patient as we asked questions and made our selections. We decided on the pork carnitas tacos, Al pastor tacos, queso blanco dip, a modelo, and a spicy jalapeño margarita. Let me first start off my saying I am now team Spicy Marg!!! Omg so good! The carnitas were perfectly flavorful without being dry and the pastor meat was properly marinated with the right touch of sweet, each perfectly accompanied with lime juice. There was no need for sauce although they have many to choose from. We also had their cheese dip and chips and salsa. The chips are seasoned and quite tasty and the salsa is served warm which was different, not bad just different. All and all, I'd visit Taco Maya again for a quick bite that is flavorful and doesn't weigh you down!

Yelp
Thank you Yelpers for putting this gem on my radar! Went on a Tuesday for lunch and got the buy two tacos get one free deal. My paneer taco, samosa taco and the signature taco came out to only $11. What a great lunch steal! The samosa taco is outstanding! In one bite you get the crunchy samosa shell and a delightfully acidic, semi sweet creamy sauce wrapped in a soft corn tortilla. I could eat 10 of these. Next fave was the signature taco which is any meat lovers dream! It was overflowing with steak and sprinkled with bacon and pineapple bits with a creamy sauce. Least fave was the paneer taco but only because it was mostly blocks of cheese and I wish it came with more veggies. I will be back for more weekly specials and can't wait to try the espresso horchata which was sold out.

Yelp
I really love the Maya Salad - the perfect blend of ingredients and the combination of chipotle mayo and the lemon vinaigrette is super tasty! The Dorado taco is also a really great option for a Baja style taco, which can be tough to find in Chicago. I've also enjoyed the Chingon, Shrimp and Al Pastor tacos. There are so many fun options that it will take a while to try them all!

Yelp
Our group went into taco maya with low expectations at a late night food joint. Food was great and service was prompt and accommodating. It was also cute inside with floral tiles and modern lighting and clean bathrooms to boot. I ordered the queso and guacamole to start- both were delicious and the chips had a unique seasoning on them that reminded me of Doritos. The guacamole had a nice citrus flavor and the queso was flavorful (not spicy at all). They had a complementary salsa bar that had quite a few spicy salsas, I did not try them but it was a nice touch. We got a chicken tinga taco and it was basic but delicious. We ordered the chicken fajitas as well and everything was pretty fresh/standard- peppers & onions with a side of rice, beanss, pico and guacamole. It was a little expensive but worth it. We split the fajitas between 2 and it was enough food (comes w 6 taco shells).

Yelp
I've been to their South Loop location and was happy to see they now have a Lincoln Park location! I highly encourage to dine in because they have an awesome sauce bar! Love me all the sauces! It's free and you help yourself. Perfect for someone who likes mild and someone who likes the painful spicy! The place is probably the cleanest and nice decorated fast food taco place you'll ever find. I order the 3 taco dinner with rice. The steak was a bit dry otherwise it was tasty with the Mexican and American toppings plus their sauces. The rice needed more flavor! Almost tasted like plain white rice. I'll come back because of that sauce bar and the convenient of getting here.

Yelp
Have done delivery a couple times now. Chips and Salsa were good, like the salsa with a good mix of spicy and smoky Rice & Beans were not good, I never end up eating them even though they come with the three taco order Tacos - Chingon is amazing, so good, awesome - Nolito - good fish taco, nice slice of avo in there too - Steak - good but not great, kinda standard Will definitely order again!

Yelp
Taco maya was not very crowded, leaving low expectations. Their food and service far surpassed this low bar. We ordered the taco dinner with el pastor tacos and an extra chicken taco. The el pastor tacos were very well seasoned and juicy. The chicken was a bit drier but still very good. They have a sauce bar with several sauces to select from which you can use to enhance the flavors. The place was clean and decorated- very cute. We let the staff borrow a lighter for a birthday cake candle and in return they gave us a 15 dollar gift card which was over generous. Would like to return to try some of the margaritas!

Elena M.

Yelp
Cannot recommend this place enough! Great fresh food and good portions for the price. The service was so good even though we came in late at night. Free chips and a fun salsa bar with lots of options! It's also a beautiful and clean space.
google avatar

Ryan H.

Yelp
The corn tortillas were so soft and delicious! The plate was presented beautifully and everything tasted fresh. I did not like the ground beef it was greasy but the carnitas was juicy. All the sauces were flavorful and I love how they give you complimentary warm salsa, warm chips. They also offer free refills on all the fountain and horchata/hibiscus tea. The prices at Taco Maya are affordable, my total was $20.42 with tip included. Great Customer Service as well, and clean restaurant.

Howard W.

Yelp
TACO MAYA is a must-visit. I can't wait to come back and try more from their menu! Don't sleep on the salsa bar, especially the creamy jalapeño
google avatar

Yelp
The Al Pastor tacos are fantastic! The guy behind the grill here is incredible. I'm not exaggerating when I say that this spot is my favorite outside of Pilsen. As someone else has mentioned, this place is very unassuming as it sits between Red Hot Ranch and Art of Pizza, two other neighborhood staples - don't let the facade fool you, this place is just as good as its peers. The folks behind the counter are extremely pleasant as well.

Yelp
This little place was delightful. The space was clean and bright with super friendly staff. We were a little confused if it was a table service or counter service, but it appears to be the best of both worlds. We sat and our server was a delight. But you can help yourself to a very clean salsa bar. So, hypothetically, no one will judge you if you go back for thirds on their amazing tomatillo salsa. The Indian fusion tacos were excellent. The Mocktail used juices that were prepared in house. We will definitely be going back - with the kids and for another date night.

Yelp
We've got a new favorite taco spot in in town! My husband placed an order online for pick up, and on the car ride over they actually gave us a call to ask for clarification on the order. This was such a nice touch, and showed they really care about giving customers the best experience possible. Our order was packaged nicely and everything was still fresh by the time we got home. I ordered two chicken tinga tacos and a quesadilla. On the quesadilla, I added grilled veggies and fresh jalapenos. Everything was so fresh!! I love the ability to customize your order (corn vs flour tortillas, taco toppings, etc). For my husband who's a cilantro hater....this is really great. The chicken tinga tacos were nicely marinated, juicy, and fresh! We've already ordered for pick up again since our first visit. We are obsessed!! If you're in the neighborhood, definitely give Taco Maya a try. The tacos are so fresh and there is something for everyone!

Yelp
I've been a long time fan of the suburban location, so I am thrilled that Taco Maya now so close to me. Samosa taco- perf Paneer taco- perf Shrimp tempura taco- perf They are the best Indian fusion restaurant I've been to. The best paneer. The best torta. It's a total package. We gotta have a yelp elite event here!!
google avatar

Yelp
This is one of the better casual Mexican spots. The chile relleno taco was delicious and the others were decent. The chips and salsa were also really good. It doesn't have the typical Mexican vibe but more of a modern feel. There's $1 samosa tacos on Mondays which I'll have to come back for. The menu has a great selection of standard and unique dishes with a good amount of vegetarian options.

Annie G.

Yelp
Overpriced for what you get. Our total for a Quesadilla and Burrito was $38 after tip with no add-ons or drinks. I feel like most Mexican restaurants offer some sort of sour cream/salsa equivalent to go with their meals, but mine came with absolutely nothing. For the price point you can definitely get something else significantly better.

Yelp
I'm done with Big Star, totally over El Palmar, and won't be giving Taco Bell another look. Taco Maya has totally stolen my heart. I first had their tacos cold after my wife brought them home to me. I was ravenously hungry and the tacos were unbelievably good- but I had assumed it was my starved brain tricking me, so a week later we gave it another shot- this time fresh. I am very pleased to say it was even better the second time around. Each time I had the grilled chicken tacos American style and the ground beef tacos American style. Couldn't be happier. It's my new favorite- without a doubt. Also the employees are nice as heck and I just can't believe this place isn't on everybody's radar (yet)! The only downside is they aren't close to my home- and the Ashland location is a little tricky to get in to. No matter- it's worth the effort.
google avatar

Brad S.

Yelp
The Indian fusion tacos are incredible. I honestly find it hard to order anything else when I'm there, but looking forward to trying a few of their other Signature options. The regular tacos are good too, totally hit the spot, but nothing really out of the ordinary. Experienced good service on all my visits so far, and I'm also a big fan of their salsa bar.

Noah B.

Yelp
Great food. I go here all the time for late night dinner. Great samosa tacos. Nice people too
google avatar

Lisa M.

Yelp
Went for the first time yesterday and it was so good! I am really picky about my steak and the steak taco was the best I've ever had. I think they might do free chips and salsa if you dine in, but I'm not certain. In the end, it seems a little pricey for something you order at the counter, but I will definitely return.
google avatar

Farah M.

Yelp
Ordered to go and everything was delicious. We had the ground beef taco on a flour tortilla "American style," chicken tikka taco on a corn tortilla, and an al pastor burrito. Everything was solid and loved that they had an array of sauces.
google avatar

Leah C.

Yelp
great variety... our first visit was a bit off-putting as they were still working out their newbie kinks. i could tell the place had potential though and i had a whole vegi/vegan menu to work through :) i think my favorite part of this place is the fiesta cup of beans (the cup is a giant corn tortilla chip). my kids devour the black beans. the rice is also nicely done with added color (corn and peas). although we've never eaten in the place looks immaculate and bright.

Yelp
We used to live in Printer's Row near Taco Maya's location there, and we were always big fans of it. Mostly due to their queso blanco, which is surprisingly hard to find in the city, but we also liked their salsa bar and revolving specialty tacos. It was one of the places we missed when we moved north to Lakeview. Well a year or so ago it was announced that it was coming to us right next door to Red Hot Ranch, and it was agonizing few months waiting for it to open - the signs were up for a long time but the opening never came even after I begged for info on Instagram. But it's here now! This location has a spacious dining room, much bigger than the one in South Loop, but otherwise the same great menu. If you dine in they serve you chips and salsa, and the salsa is heated which is really nice - but you gotta get the queso. They have the salsa bar as well with various levels of heat and pickled carrots. On the menu is your usual Tex Mex fare, but also sprinkled in with several speciality items like several Indian inspired tacos - you don't want to miss these. Burritos and enchiladas are great, and they have specials for lunch and Taco Tuesday as well. After repeated visits, I would say to avoid the platters - they just come with rice and beans, which are pretty average and flavorless. Spend the money on an extra taco instead. Hopefully they implement a rotating menu soon like they had in Printer's Row...they had an amazing goat quesabirria that I hope makes a return soon. But even without that, Taco Maya is a welcome addition to the neighborhood and will have me reconsidering if I want another double RHR cheeseburger.

Rose M.

Yelp
Taco shells were so stale. Rice was dry. Black beans were so bland. Salsa pretty good and came with fresh crispy tortilla chips. Loved the salsa bar w/ marinated jalapeños.

Abigail R.

Yelp
OH. MY. GOODNESS.... WHY is this place not talked about enough . Chefs kiss to my tacos , 10/10 , everything was delicious. What's even better is this place is open late for midnight cravings. Truly a hidden gem in this area of the neighborhood but if you have not tried it yet, do yourself a big favor and place your order at this wonderful place and see for yourself. The pictures don't do justice just believe me when I say these made my night and will make yours too.

Yelp
Cute fusion taco joint. Classic tacos and some Indian flavors. Love the salsa bar. Great samosa taco!
google avatar

NaywriChi W.

Yelp
This is the ninth location in the state and the third in the city and this is average size. I've been to the River North location and it's the same size. I had the Paneer Burrito with a couple of sides. It was fantastic. PS. Their going to open one in Logan Square this Winter.
google avatar

Iris N.

Yelp
Stumbled on this place on a Sunday night. The place was absolutely clean, the customer service was great and the food was amazing! My husband and I both got a grilled chicken burrito. Perfect size and taste! We will definitely be back!

Valentina S.

Yelp
Venue - clean, white walls, and simple wooden chairs. The design comes off as American contemporary cafeteria, not Mexican at all. The vibes were not suitable for a place to be "drinking margaritas". Service - good. We were served chips and salsa right away. The food came quick. Drinks - the classic margarita and watermelon mint margarita were good. Not strong but good. More expensive than what you get. They tasted like $10 margaritas not $13-$15. Food - tacos were good. Not the best but I enjoyed it. The burrito was okay and tasty. You can tell all the ingredients were fresh. It didn't come off as "authentic Mexican" "Les falta sazon"
google avatar

Jason P.

Yelp
Very good tacos. They cost more than your typical taco place but have unique flavors that I haven't seen anywhere else.

Courtney K.

Yelp
Food was delicious service was even better and the restaurant was very clean and had very cute decor. I will definitely be coming back!! Amazing experience
google avatar

S A.

Yelp
So yummy, lots of veg options (I hate it when the only thing on offer is a taco that has rice and beans and is served with rice and beans. I'm not vegetarian, but I prefer to eat that way most of the time). My favorite was the chili potato, and I also loved the poblano. My sister loved the samosa taco.
google avatar

Carley W.

Yelp
Taco Maya is fast, east and definitely yummy!! I've ate at this location twice. I have had tacos, burrito, salsas and guac. All SO good and the guac was extra good!! The employees are super friendly. The restaurant is always clean too. Recommend for take out too.
google avatar

Nicole L.

Yelp
Been waiting for this to open! Just tried a bushel of tacos tonight and my goodness SO GOOD! We tried the chicken tinga, chorizo, signature, dorado, chingon, ground beef and chili potato tacos! We enjoyed all of them! Everything tasted very fresh and delicious. Also tried a chicken quesadilla which was great! And queso and chips! One of the best quesos we've ever had. Great flavor and consistently without being TOO hot. The chips were great on their own too with some seasoning! We will definitely be back again soon to try more of the menu! Welcome to Lakeview!!
google avatar

Alice A.

Yelp
The tacos here are so good! We ordered 6 different ones - fried chicken, chicken, shrimp, al pastor, rib eye and beef tongue and they were all excellent. The tortilla chips and salsa bar were a nice touch as well. The place is newly-renovated, spacious and kid-friendly. There is a small parking lot out in front as well with free parking. We will be coming back to try more things off of their menu! Very happy to see this new addition to the neighborhood.

Roland C.

Yelp
Chorizo taco was greasy Steak taco is chewy Barely see the cilantro on it I would not recommend this place

Alan W.

Yelp
Reviewing the new location on Ashland... This place is fabulous. Huge Mexican fan my whole life; grew up eating it. There are any of a number of wonderful Mexican restaurants in the area. Quite simply, Taco Maya has the best tacos I've eaten in the city. Great Fusion concepts. Fabulous execution. Really delicious. The salsa bar is a giant bonus.
google avatar

Tony D.

Yelp
Average steak tacos for 5+ bucks a taco. They have free taco Tuesday I guess ? I only got seat. Maybe other tacos are better. Will give it one more try.

Seema S.

Yelp
Such a gem of a place! It's not fancy, but the food is fast, inexpensive, and delicious!! The Mexican-Indian fusion tacos, particularly the paneer and samosa ones, are genius! Service is also great, along with the presentation. Try the taco plate and you can't go wrong! It's also kid-friendly and the beans are vegetarian by default, which we really appreciated. Highly recommend this spot!
google avatar

Sarah S.

Yelp
Food was great, definitely order the indian fusion tacos. Christie took great care of us! They keep the club music BLASTING even on a weeknight.

Eban R.

Yelp
Incredible tacos - pork belly with pico de gallo was magnificent. They're also super friendly.

Adlig B.

Yelp
This place is great! They have such unique food, and everything we've tried so far is fantastic. I'm a vegetarian, so I especially like their veggie chorizo dishes. Their salsa bar so cool, and allows you to customize your flavor and spiciness to your liking.

Matt T.

Yelp
Food is good. But today was the second time I've pulled in w no customers in the joint & all spots in the lot are taken. Never going back. Bummer. I was pulling for you but this is not the look. Good luck
