Google
Came here upon recommendation from a friend and...it is some really good tacos! We ordered carnitas, fish, al pastor barbacoa and shrimp tacos! All of them were so delicious. It is definitely a no-frills kind of taco place but the taste is 🤌🏻

Lizzet Hernandez-Cortinas

Google
When you ask for no pico and they add extra pico 😅... Ya'll its a good thing I love your burritos. 💜🌯 But please, if the ticket says no pico, don't add extra pico. This happens on almost every breakfast burrito I order.

Fa Dwan

Google
Excellent Taco. We order 7 different Taco 🌮🌮🌮🌮🌮🌮🌮 then go to the downtown pedestrian bridge watching sunset. Great food with great view. Strongly recommended.

Michael Evans

Google
Very solid tex-mex. I had a taco de puerco, de huevos y nopales, and a breakfast burrito. The puerco taco was seriously seriously good. I was in awe. For the other ... the eggs were totally overcooked. It was like they had been completely dehydrated. The non-breakfast items may be a tad more expensive, but it is totally worth it.

Ana Alavedra

Google
Really kind service the lady that took our order was great. When we finally got our food we were excited to eat it. The tortillas are store bought which was very disappointing. My potato and egg was just overall gross had to throw it away. I was really disappointed I saw good reviews for this place but I guess if you dont like real tacos it's ok.

Lucy

Google
Wow on the barbacoa - my favorite so far. Cheap $1.75 and $2.50 to-go tacos. Take cards. Walk up to the ordering window.

Colin Laitner

Google
Excellent and cheap! It's just the walk up window. Buy beverages next door. Ask for extra tortilla because there's so much taco filling, you'll need it.

Shane Shine

Google
Delicious carnitas and al pastor tacos 🫠🤤

Reem E.

Yelp
Tell me where you can find a FRESH and delicious breakfast taco for 2 bucks. You can't anymore. If this place closes, I will start a riot. Quick casual service, only a window, tortillas are like a pillow. No frills type of consistent place. So good, muchas gracias

Corinne S.

Yelp
Definitely try the shrimp taco #1 and add pineapple, favorite taco I've had in Austin so far. The breakfast tacos are also huge, we like the ham and sausage ones :) I prefer the individual tacos (and soft corn tortillas) over their "crispy" tacos, which are more of just a hard shell taco. Really affordable and great value, we come here often!

Logan S.

Yelp
I got in touch with the owner and Ryan is no longer working at Taco MEX. the cameras proved true and i am allowed at the store with their compliments. I'm looking forward to another burrito.

Gen X.

Yelp
Dear Taco-Mex, I love you. Potato and bean tacos might not be the most popular, but they are the best, and you do them right every time. Your green sauce is to die for, and I can't live without it. Not once have you messed up my order or let me down in any way, which I'm pretty sure makes you a unicorn. Thanks for being so amazing and always taking care of my cravings. We're gonna be best friends forever.

Caroline S.

Yelp
Maybe one of my all time fav taco spots. I usually like the chicken fajita taco, the bean and cheese taco and oddly enough... the fish tacos are banger. Their pastor is lit too. It's literally just a whole in the wall but they know what their doing. The service has always been on point and they have multiple items like nachos and Chile Rellenos, which are both also great.

Eric F.

Yelp
I would, under normal circumstances have given Taco-Mex five and a half stars, however, it appears that Taco-Mex on Manor Rd. is gone, or at their menu poster and assorted window detritus. If true, they'll be horribly missed. I refuse to give a memory five stars.

Jackson M.

Yelp
I've been going to this place for years. There are a lot of tacos to be found in this general area, but Taco Mex is #1 in my book. They are reasonably priced and their recipes are on point. I've never had better Carne Guisada in my life!

Deanna S.

Yelp
I typically only go here for breakfast and I always get the bean and cheese tacos (I know boring but I have dietary restrictions). They're not too shabby - definitely the best tacos on Manor Rd. but I've also had better. They do regularly forget an item on larger orders so be sure to check!! But the prices are amazing & the salsa verde is a game changer on any taco! I've had their Al Pastor and Barbacoa as well - good flavor but pretty greasy. Still the best tacos on manor though.

Abel M.

Yelp
So good and the salsa is delicious I wish breakfast tacos in west TX were only 1.99 I will have to remember this place next time I'm around here!

Aaron C.

Yelp
$3.00 Taco for less than a 2 oz of egg and measly bacon slice - i could go to Jack In the Box for 3 x as much nutrition. DO NOT RECOMEND!

Eric S.

Yelp
New addition to A tier tacos. They are in contention for the best budget taco now. I would way nopales, al pastor, are solid picks. An al pastor taco is the measure of a taqueria and these guys bring their a game. You can tell the meat and the lettuce and tomato they use are very fresh. Super juicy and solid sauce game. The sauce game is not self serve, they give you little containers. Ask for extra. Not home made tortilla. personally, i prefer the taco game to the burrito game. They also offer burritos which is nice. The size factor is not as good as a chipotle, but the quality factor is definitely better. The tortillas are nice and steamed. Probably steals trancas niche for best cheap greasy street taco in town. Its a little more tex mex though. Be warned, they take a little while to prepare your food. Also, there isn't a place to sit down an eat outside so youll want it to go

Sherene A.

Yelp
I am so glad I found this place. On the east side you can find a lot of gentrified taco spots. El Chilito, Mi Madres...to name a few. There are so many teeny tiny Latino/a owned trucks that don't have a Yelp page, and you win the lottery when you stumble on them by causing near crashes by whipping into them. Taco-mex has solid taco option and they have kept insanely reasonable prices. (Mole taco and two black bean and cheese taco on wheat tortillas...today for under $7.) I try really hard to support minority owned businesses, especially on the east side where many minority owned business are devastatingly pushed out. The food is solod, the service impeccable. The tacos are always piping hot. Definitely hit them up when you see them.

Starr W.

Yelp
I was cruising around the "east side" one Saturday morning and the belly was like "I want breakfast tacos" and the brain was like... "dude there has to be tons of awesome breakfast tacos on this side of town." So then I was like.... okay let's pull over and Yelp was like... "I'll help you." So after reading a couple reviews and trying it out, here I am. I mean, this is a walk up style kinda ordering. Didn't bother me, but of course since I can't go in, I am gonna be nosey as hell peeking in to see what s going on back there. Everything looked legit. Food is delicious as hell. I ordered a couple breakfast tacos. I have to say the eggs were so damn fresh. I never say that about breakfast tacos which may or may not be concerning, but I could definitely taste the difference here. I got a potato egg and cheese as well as a bacon egg and cheese, they were both reasonably sized. Pretty fat. :) I got full. The salsas are legit, now the wait can range depending on how busy they are. But I can tell these bad boys get busy. The kitchen is tiny so there were like.. three people in there but they get the job done. I love how they accept all forms of payments, but don't have sales tax. LOVE not having to bee nickeled and dimed!!! #YAAAAAAAAS #WINNNNNINGG #GOGETYOUSOME!

Freddie J.

Yelp
What happened? This place used to be soooo good. Today, though...my barbacoa taco tasted boiled and the eggs in another taco tasted spoiled and there were egg shells.

Jackson G.

Yelp
We were not expecting to go here, but pulled into the parking lot and decided to try it out. Definitely the definition of a "hole-in-the-wall" place. We ordered from the window, and in about 10-15 min we got our tacos. For $1.75, the tacos were pretty filling and they tasted good too! There wasn't too much bacon on my bacon potato and egg, but it was still good. I would definitely try this place out if you have some free time and want some tasty, cheap tacos from a cool place!

Mark G.

Yelp
How is it I haven't reviewed Taco-Mex before? I've been coming here for a few years now and somehow thought I'd surely written a review, but, alas. Please allow me correct that deficiency now, and let me begin with a confession: I am partial to "fancy" tacos - the kind of creative offerings you might find locally at places like Torchy's, Tacodeli, or Vera Cruz All-Natural. Taco-Mex does not serve fancy tacos. These are basic, traditional tacos, served quite literally from a hole in the wall. Think brick-and-mortar taco truck. You get meat and basic toppings like onions and cilantro, served on a corn tortilla (or flour if you prefer) for less than you'll pay for a soda at the convenience store next door. So, what makes them special? It's this: Each of the meat preparations is well-executed and distinct from one another. I gotta say, even at Austin's better authentic taco places there can often be a certain "sameness" to the tacos - the al pastor and the carnitas don't taste as distinctly different from one another as they might. Not so at this place. On a recent visit I was reminded of how subtly rich and magical a proper barbacoa can be. The picadillo beef was a nearly Platonic ideal specimen. I was momentarily a bit disappointed with my migas taco - it was a rather stripped-down and simplified affair compared to the "fancy" ones I've come to love. I reminded myself that I paid a paltry sum for the thing and bit in. The egg was so perfectly cooked that I instantly forgave the simplified preparation. I'm getting hungry just writing about it. Yum. Is there a downside, a caveat to this gushing review? Maybe. Taco-Mex isn't a place that could only exist in Austin. It could exist anywhere awesome, cheap, and authentic Mexican food of its style might be found. Which is to say, a whole lot of places. But then, I'm not the kind of gringo who would deduct a star for that!

Meredith R.

Yelp
I love this place! Its a little hole in the wall (literally) and their food is delicious! They are super cheap and the service is always great! Bennu coffee shops also sell their tacos which is how I found out about them but theyre even better freah from here. Definitely recommend! Only thing thats been off was one time they werent open during posted hours and that was frustrating, but my parents own a small business and sometimes things just come up so i understand. Maybe leave a note next time.

Yelp
We have been driving by this place for YEARS and never stopped. We were seriously missing out all this time! We ordered ahead through their website and ended up with five custom breakfast tacos for less than the price of two at some of the more "popular" taco places in town. Don't let this tiny window in the wall fool you. Their tacos are so much more filling than some of the others in town, and my husband and I were both quite content after two each. As we sat there in the parking lot waiting for our app to alert us that our Saturday morning hungover state of mind was about to get a turbo booster shot, the revolving line of people walking up to order was endless! People from the surrounding neighborhood popped up with their pups in tow, people from all walks of life descended upon the tiny window, and while we waited, we wondered if we were forgotten. While the order indictaed 10-20 minutes, we did have to wait 35 minutes, and we never received a text update as promised that it was ready. So be ready to listen, because the guy in the window just shouted out the ingredient list for every single one of tacos, which was, in itself, quite amusing. If you send someone to pick up your order, make sure you what it is because they don't call out names! We'll definitely be back again, and working our way through the menu for sure!

Misa S.

Yelp
i haven't left a review in like 12 years. this is the best barbacoa in 50 miles at least. Jfc i thought about it for 3 days before i went back for more.

Ali K.

Yelp
Pork chop taco ALL DAY!! Salsa game isn't strong but you gotta respect the fact that it takes TIME for your tacos to come out, much like some of my favorite spots in town. In general I prefer their lunch to breakfast tacos. Pretty generous with the Carne too. Carne Guisada is on point, Barbacoa and Carnitas are solid too. These guys are a salsa upgrade away from 4 stars but at these prices, I'll deal. Two tacos is a decent meal. $2.50 a pop.

Maricela C.

Yelp
Excellent tacos! Always good and fresh. And it doesn't break the bank. These tacos are tasty! Tip: call ahead and pick up. No waiting time everytime I do. I keep coming back to this place because it's awesome! Best kept secret on the East side. It's 2019 and this place is still freakin' tasty!

Leila R.

Yelp
I got my first taste and experience at the Orange WIndow of Taco-tunity and I am now a convert! I was told about this place by a friend who just moved into the neighborhood as I had always wondered what on earth could be coming out of that unassuming window in a very sketch-looking strip mall on the Eastside that would actually warrant a line (despite queueing being Austin's favorite past-time). So I decided one gray, cold November morning while waiting to meet up with some friends to investigate the innerworkings of this taco wormhole when there was not a line to speak of. I didn't know if you needed a password or how the taco-window magic even worked, I just knew I was hungry for breakfast tacos and had money to exchange for them. I honestly cannot even tell you what I ordered because once the window opened and the nice gal greeted me and asked for my order, I was pulled into the Taco Vortex and everything is a swirly, delicious, taco-y haze! I know one of my tacos literally had everything on it...including avocado (there are up charges for anything after 3 ingredients and for the avo) and the other was like egg bean cheese and bacon. Even with all the extras my two amply stuffed bfast tacos only cost me $4.75. Seriously? You can barely get one taco at TacoDeli or Torchy's for that! They have two kinds of sauces, but since I cannot handle anything spicy I didn't try either. I know, I know, a cardinal sin at the Taco Window of Enlightenment, but I didn't want my stomach to hate me after the pleasure I was about to give it. They do accept credit cards (which I was thankful for because I almost never have cash) and you just kind of chill by the window til they open it and give you your order. You can even call your order ahead! There is not a place to sit and eat (that I could see) so I took my taco treasure across the street and ate at one of Ingredient's outdoor tables after purchasing a cup of coffee (which was a great addition to my tacos). My friends ended up getting tacos as well and the pastor taco my friend got was absolutely exquisite! Do yourself a favor and give this literal "hole in the wall" a try, but be warned, once you offer yourself as sacrifice to the Taco Gods of Deliciousness, there is no going back!

Cindy L.

Yelp
Pros: My new favorite place for breakfast tacos! Legit prices ($1.75 for breakfast, $2 for lunch tacos). Accepts cards. Made fresh to order. Con: I currently live in San Diego and it's so far from Taco Mex! Ahhhhhhhh! This is the kind of place you go for a no frills- all serious breakfast tacos. It's located in a small plaza, where you go up to the window, place your order, hang out for a bit, and hungrily grab your order. Everything is made fresh and meant for to-go; however, I saw quite a few hungry patrons eat outside. The menu is pretty straight forward with breakfast and lunch tacos as well as plate options (Chile rellano, gordita, quesadilla, menudo, and crispy tacos.) Now what I like about this place is that you can have breakfast tacos ALL day (yay!). I ended up stopping by past noon and happily placed my order for 3 breakfast tacos: migas and egg, sausage and egg, and cactus and egg - all with corn tortillas and some cheese (because why not). The wait wasn't too bad, for made fresh to order food- it's definitely worth it. If anything, I had some downtime to figure out my game plan for the rest of the day in Austin. After about 10-15 min, my order was called you and I was so excited about my breakfast tacos! Talk about flavor packed with each bite! The green and red salsas that accompanied the tacos added a nice spicy kick as well. The tacos are quite big so watch out! After I demolished my food, I was more than ready to take a nap! Thanks Taco Mex for a delicious experience!

John M.

Yelp
Easy to see why people flock here..tacos are good size and fresh..but for us the Bac/Egg/pota/cheese just seemed plain Jane..filling yes..hot yes..but lacked in bacon, which is key ..loaded with taters..cheap filler..could have used some salt and pepper..green sauce had a kick..helped with flavor..most reviews seam to be good with a mix of other ingredients..and they do have a great selection..will give them another try as they are close to work..

Dayna G.

Yelp
Best Tacis, ever!!! Worth the drive from San Marcos. Nice staff. Great walk-up window. Delicious food! Must go back!

Alondra G.

Yelp
Amazing food just the people working there aren't professional enough because I found a long hair in my food 10/10 don't recommend if you want something clean to eat.

Mary J.

Yelp
Everything is fresh, delicious, and the tacos are massive! Pastor and pollo (con todo) are my go-to s

Jasmine W.

Yelp
Kind of a literal hole in the wall -- I drove by it twice before realizing that it wasn't a truck! It's in a plaza and is just a simple window with a couple people working in the kitchen. I stopped by one morning and picked up migas, bacon/egg/cheese, sausage/egg/cheese, and chorizo/egg/cheese. All super affordable and out in 10 minutes! ($12.99 for 6 tacos) I'm giving them a lower rating just because the tacos weren't super flavorful and I felt that they were lacking even with salsa. Best one was bacon/egg/cheese and I feel like that was the best one only because of how salty bacon naturally is so it gave the taco more flavor. Very mediocre in comparison to other breakfast tacos in Austin, but I would come back to try other items on the menu because of its proximity and convenience to my apartment. Worth the try but not the holy grail!

Will H.

Yelp
For the price and consistency, this place is hard to beat. Worth going a few minutes out of your way for a few breakfast tacos.

B H.

Yelp
We got tacos and travelled about 15 minutes home and they were still delicious. Pastor and guisada were stuffed with filling(less than Marcelino's but more than your usual taco joint). Only minor complaints are the sauce is not hot at all and they don't grill their jalapeños. Nowhere near deal breakers though. Staff is courteous, efficient and they get the orders out pretty quickly(hard to judge though as I've never been there during peak times). All in all they are definitely in the weekend Taco Trek rotation.

Molly P.

Yelp
You are about to find your new favorite taco place in Austin! This place has the best migas and egg taco and even the plain ol' bean and cheese will knock your socks off. But taste aside, the prices will be the reason you come back. I don't spend more than $7 a visit yet I am always satisfied. Be careful, if you're sensitive like me, both salsas are super spicy. Excellent, but...super spicy. Usually very quick service, but if there's ever a wait remember that it is worth it! The staff is super friendly.

Kristie F.

Yelp
Classic breakfasts tacos at classic prices at this hole in the wall taco joint. I recommend the bean and cheese, and the chorizo and egg with cheese (so much cheese!) It's you're feeling fancy, add some avocado. The wait can be a little long at peak times, but hey, these guys are cooking your eggs from scratch, so be a little patient!

Erika N.

Yelp
Breakfast tacos are ok... You can honestly get better at the chains. Maybe their lunch tacos are better. Not sure I'd come back to try it again. They were really nice, just really slow... so don't be fooled by the "hole-in-the-wall" quick food. It took 30 minutes for 6 tacos! In the end, we were almost going to ask for a refund since we were late to our next appointment, but everything except the queso was ready, so we just got a refund for just that.

D B.

Yelp
How to get to heaven: 1. Walk to or park at Taco-Mex on Manor Rd. 2. Study the menu. 3. Order an egg and bacon taco w/cheese on a corn tortilla at the tiny window. (The red salsa is a must.) 4. Nosh on your taco, and enjoy.

Debra J.

Yelp
Although there is no dine in area, the tacos are delicious. Owner may want to consider adding some benches for the customers to sit, eat and visit.

Miriam R.

Yelp
Okay. WOW. Coming from a Hispanic family, I have a lot of expectations when it comes to tacos. These guys DELIVER. Breakfast tacos at 10PM Done in less than 10 min Price is more than affordable DELICIOUS. Need I say more?

Kyla N.

Yelp
I live across the street from taco mex so uhh I eat their tacos at least once a week. The breakfast tacos are awesome, but the chicken fajita tacos are my favorite. One taco is HUGE so you get an awesome and filling meal for under 5 bucks every time you come here. It gets super busy weekend mornings as the masses of hungover zombies descend, but come any other time of the week and usually the wait is way less than five minutes.

Liz W.

Yelp
Heck yeah this place is dope. Everything here is good. The breakfast tacos will rock yr world. The puerco is also insanely good. They're not messing around at Taco-Mex. Nice service too, super fast. Don't go to freakin' Torchy's.

Jason F.

Yelp
On my recent visit, I noticed that they've updated their menu a bit... some new items and new prices (breakfast tacos still $1.75!) But still the same awesome food, done quickly.

J R.

Yelp
It's okay. Pretty cheap and convenient but nothing special. They're Tex-Mex style, not Mexican. The ingredients aren't the best. The pastor is just cooked like regular meat.. and they don't have carnitas (Mi Madres down the street does!). If you're in the neighborhood and looking for a quick bite it's a good bet. But if you're gonna drive somewhere for tacos there are better options. Breakfast tacos are good.

Jori S.

Yelp
This little hole in the wall is located east of 35 on Manor road next to a laundry mat, and a barber shop. It did not used to be orange, so it was missed by many. This place does tacos. Good tacos. Spicy tacos. Filling tacos. $2.00 tacos. Why pay extra for the El Chilito tacos? I enjoy the babacoa, and the beef fajita, but I have heard that the egg and ham is not the best. If your looking for something fast, cheap and delicious, stop here.

Raquel C.

Yelp
Best explained as Window Tacos! As for authenticity they are legit. This is the type of place you can grab some quick tacos to go. The salsa verde is spicy hot! Loved it

Claire M.

Yelp
#1 absolute favorite best tacos in Austin! But, please don't go here and don't tell your friends, because I don't want a long line next time I go! Great job Taco-Mex, thank you for your service.

Mae G.

Yelp
I've given taco mex multiple chances but my experiences are complete opposite of all the other rave reviews. I found my tacos bland and in need of salt...very under salted. Chicken fajita meat was off putting and the potatoes in my bfast tacos was mushy boiled potatoes once again with no flavor at all and in dire need of salt. Their salsas ate just raw heat and once again no flavor profile other than taste of raw chilies. The one thing they have going is the price which is cheap but even that doesn't make up for the inedible tacos.

Matt J.

Yelp
Quite literally the worst tacos I've had. I tried four different types of tacos and every single one of them seemed to have the exact same meat with a different sauce thrown on it. Sauces were horrible. I would not recommend going here.

Tasha B.

Yelp
Friday after a stressful week of work. Needed a to-go taco fix and was on Manor. I passed El Chilito and could not even. Not with the line and the hipsters and perpetual crowds everywhere and the bicyclists, and the overall Friday nightness of the whole scene. No, just no. At that moment, I just couldn't deal and wasn't in the mood for how cool Austin is. All I wanted were tacos and no scene, no line, no cool factor. So I found Taco-Mex and I ordered at the walk up window with no line and the guy wouldn't let me add mushrooms to my taco even though the sign says you can build your own, but that was okay, because he clearly wasn't in the mood to be making any cool, creative Austiny hipster tacos. And you know what? It all worked out. The tacos were good, but not great, no homemade tortillas, unique ingredients, or unusual pairings. No horchata. I didn't want horchata. It was a non issue. It was exactly what I wanted and needed.

Daniel M.

Yelp
Yes, they do have vegetarian options (breakfast only) - Yes, it is literally a hole in the wall. - Yes, it is tasty. It was one of those days where all of the sudden it was 8am and I was still awake. Maybe I was still drunk, maybe I was working hard all night long and lost track of time; it's the former if you want to know... Anyway, so I'm lucky to be surrounded by taco places. I've tried the ones to the left of my apt, but never to the right. I tried to visit once before, but was turned away because of a misunderstanding on when they were supposed to be open. So keep that in mind when you attempt to go. (know the hours). Now that I was over being pissed about that, I was ready to give em' a shot. Potato and Egg - filled to the brim with, well, potatoes and eggs. I was a little underwhelmed due to the potatoes being somewhat mushy. I was honestly hoping for more of a crisp bite, but they were still good and you get a lot so it was filling. Migas and Egg - I really prefered this taco to the potato one. The flavor was much better and was not as mushy. The salsa was great. I really enjoyed it, and would come back for that alone. The flavor is a little spicy, but goes great with the tacos that I had. So summing it up - I would come back. I need to brush up on my spanish so that I can ask about the beans and rice, because I am unsure if they are vegetarian friendly. I would also like to try the burritos and nachos that are mentioned on the sign.

Carrie W.

Yelp
Literally a hole in the wall on Manor Road! Really decent tacos served with a smile and at an excellent price..... I have had breakfast tacos, chicharone, fajita and the barbacoa....all were delicious...most were very spicy...which I love, but some may need to be warned. I definitely recomend putting Taco-Mex in the Manor Road taco rotation...less hipsters and a bit more soul.

Wade G.

Yelp
The food is amazing. The service is shit. Especially the young kid working the window. He keeps telling everyone outside to wait in the heat and can't take their order but then keeps taking phone orders right in front of us. Pretty pathetic service and guy is a jerk when talking to customers. Heard him yelling at a customer on the phone asking for their number. The customer obviously didn't understand it was the 'phone' number you were looking for... just be polite and use better customer service.
