"Taco Rouge landed in Polk Gulch on August 22, revamping the former Rouge and Nick's Crispy Tacos space into a casual spot for fresh tacos by day and tequila with live and DJ'd music at night. The work of chef Daniel Tellez, former executive chef at Sausalito's Copita and a winner of Bocuse d'Or Mexico, the restaurant's menu hews to Tellez's insistence on seasonal ingredients and powerful Mexican flavors." - Christina Mueller

Great food, drinks and atmosphere! Always have a seat to catch a game and enjoy some tacos, birria fries and guacamole. Come for a great time and stay for even better cocktails!

I got some drinks and food on Saturday and my experience was that it was okay. The food was decent, we ordered three tacos and they probably took around 30 minutes but then when we ordered the elote it came out very quickly. They somehow ran out of corona which is wild for a taco place. My friends got the spicy marg pitcher and it was so spicy that it was undrinkable. They had to throw a glass of water into it in order to drink it. The burn wasn't like a jalapeno burn it felt more chemical, like they added a hot sauce. We ended up spending a decent amount because of how long we were there. Probably won't come back to be honest.

Google
The food was great - highly recommend the Cochinita Torta. I’ve had a number of other things in the menu - fish taco, birria, carne asada - and everything has been very good. The redesign is really nice. It’s a much different experience than Nick’s, and that is all for the better. The drinks are fresh and they use quality ingredients. All in all a great new addition to Polk street!

Google
Food was really bad. Chips and salsa were tasteless, the birria consisted of two giant chunks and one of them was mostly fat, the fish taco I took a bite of and put down.

Google
This place is a hidden gem, usually mostly empty and I don't know why. Good food, good drinks, perfect place to watch sports or just hang

Google
Great Tacos, the quality is there but Terrible burritos, the rice was undercooked, I never had that happen before in any burrito I ever ate. Stick with the Tacos

Great service and atmosphere. Really enjoyed my food and cocktails!

The staff that serves the bar a bit arrogant, my friend threw the change instead of offering it in her hand, that was something that I found rude and in bad taste

Yelp
I think this place has great potential and I'd love to give them the benefit of the doubt, so I'll chalk up our mid experience to them being relatively new Food: hit or miss for sure. My friends and I split Al pastor, carne asada, and carnitas street tacos. The carne asada was great! Super flavorful and tender. The Al pastor was okay. A little dry and a little under seasoned, but still pretty tasty. Unfortunately, the carnitas was basically inedible. It was completely dry and burnt to the point it was crunchy somehow? Not even the salsa could save it Service: our server was super friendly! Ambiance: the vibes were simply off. The place was mostly empty on a Friday night which was pretty sad. There was live music which sounded great but was several decibels too loud for the amount of people inside. There was one brave soul dancing along to every song. Honestly my friends and I felt a little weird about it all so we finished our food and drinks as fast as possible and left for some of our go to Polk bars Overall, I don't think I'll be back soon unless they change things up. A good DJ and a change of pace would do wonders for them!

Yelp
Returned here during the super bowl with my partner to give it another try. Same issues mostly persisted. Food was horrible. One of the bartenders (shorter, short haired guy who I believe was the same as in my original review) was getting extremely drunk on the job to the extent that he was having difficulty accomplishing it and ignoring customers to repeatedly creep on a female customer, telling her she is pretty and offering her free drinks while others waited. The bartender with the shorter curly hair that looked like Lil Dicky had to try to make up for his colleague's incompetence.

Yelp
I was pretty disappointed in this new replacement of Nick's Crispy Tacos. I thought the street tacos were all pretty lack luster. All of the meats were dry. If you're trying to be economical and order margaritas by the pitcher, don't bother. You can't even fill 4 small glasses with what comes out of it. Just get the normal size.

Yelp
I don't understand why more people aren't coming here! The service is always excellent, there's a good happy hour with heavy pours, and the food is good. They have changed the menu a few times, but the birria fries and smash burger taco are both delicious. There are lots of tvs and it's a very comfortable space. Really good place to watch a game. Try it out!

Yelp
Came out to see the Warriors game and thought I'd give Taco Rouge a shot. I really enjoyed this place. I was with a couple friends and we tried Paloma's, margaritas, and the ranch water cocktails. The paloma was my favorite but the margarita was a close second. They make the drinks here how they should be done, with only good tequila and fresh juices. What made them even better were the prices, by far a great deal for great drinks. Between us three we tried almost everything, don't judge we hadn't eaten all day and were famished. Firstly, the pastor tacos were by far my favorite, they had them on a Trombo like any respectable pastor purveyor should. Also really good and worth trying are they tacos Arabe and birria. The salsas weren't very spicey but what they lacked in heat they made up for in flavor. However, for those that like the spice they do have habanero salsa to kick up the heat. The service was great, even for being a full house on a Saturday afternoon and during a Warriors game. Will definitely be going back

Yelp
This place is just okay - the burritos are pretty mediocre (I've had both the birria and the carne asada) but I do like the chips and guac a lot. The birria tacos are also pretty good. Drinks aren't really anything special. IMO the only real reason to come here is if you're looking for a relaxed place to watch a game - lots of big TVs showing different stuff

Sadye R.

Yelp
Came to the bar on a Wednesday night! Was greeted with the warmest welcome and grabbed a seat at the bar. Great big TVs and a well stocked bar is the way to go. Had a couple of great recommendations and ordered the birria fries and the smash burger taco... seriously a remembrance of in n out burger. The bartender Matt was super attentive, constantly scanning the bar and really on top of it. Would definitely come back again what a great spot, amazing mezcal selection and loved the food menu!

Victor D.

Yelp
Service is good Ambiance is good Food is hit or miss with what you feel like eating You can hang around with friends to watch games

Yelp
Their chips are sturdy, salty, flavorful, and AMAZING. The salsas are DELICIOUS. The Elote is freshly made and YUMMY. Service is WONDERFUL. Great neighborhood location. I'm loving this place. Bravo!!!

Ewa U.

Yelp
Love the new ambiance! Great place to order some food and watch your fave sports. Given ownership changes, I'm sure y'all are still undergoing hiring etc-- so the bar service will be spik and spam in no time! Ps: great tacos - cheers!

EL R.

Yelp
Food and services very poor I don't think i am caming back. I dnt want go in to detail because I don't think the manager knows what customer services stand for. The only thing I can say is that I am not caming back.

John S.

Yelp
The food is so good! Absolutely delicious. I'm looking forward for the Taco Tuesday!

Brendan H.

Yelp
Sad to see Nick's go, but this place is an excellent replacement. Great selection of tequila and beer, friendly waitstaff, and nice bathrooms. The quesabirria is super delicious and the elote off the cob is a perfect appetizer. Street tacos are on point as well. Also it's such a big place that its great for groups. Show this place some love!

Leif D.

Yelp
Walked past after 2.5 beers down the street on the prowl for a burrito. Was going to send it deep down polk but became drawn to the idea of trying out nick's replacement as I walked by. My burrito was underwhelming. 2 large pieces of completely inedible carne asada and $18 is why I gave it 3 out of 5. Flavor is acceptable and I probably (hopefully) just got a one off on those pieces of meat. So benefit of the doubt, this is a serviceable burrito.

Yelp
A bouncer working named Tyse was incredibly rude and refused entry despite being of legal age. I'm not sure if he had a hard time telling if my out of state license was authentic or not, but he still refused entry after I pulled out my passport photos. After trying to reason for minute, it just wasn't worth the hassle to get in. Very disappointed with the service and kindness here and hoped to see if this place was worth the hype after replacing Nicks Crispy's Tacos.

David E.

Yelp
The birria tacos and burrito are incredible! Juicy and tender. 3 street tacos for 11 dollars is a great deal and the habanero salsa is actually really spicy and tasty. Highly recommend this spot for lunch

Adriana P.

Yelp
Love these tacos! The birria ones are out of this world. The remodel is really nice - great for big groups. Friendly staff. Thumbs up!

Joaquin M.

Yelp
Food was great, Al Pastor was da bomb and Birria was grubbin! All dranks were on point! We'll be back.

Allie F.

Yelp
Service was great, bartender was nice and let us sample some mezcal. Food was good, I think i'm just biased with my so-cal taco trucks, but had good flavor! I for the Cochinitas street tacos, a little salty but good flavor. My friend got the single asada taco and we're disappointed- said it was a bigger taco but came with legit 6 pieces of flank steak. Bummed about that but the vibe was good and had great service.

Julie K.

Yelp
Great new taco place! Glad to have this spot in the neighborhood. Excited to come here for comedy.

Sandy E.

Yelp
Food is terrific. The staff couldn't be better! The fish taco was very fresh. I had a fantastic Don Julio margarita! I highly recommend Taco Rouge.

Yelp
Honestly the worst experience I have ever had in a bar or restaurant, came in at 6pm on Friday, only 5 other people sitting at the bar, the bartender ignored us and seemed bothered by our presence the second we sat down, interacting with the 5 men at the bar happily, after moving over a few seats we were able to place drink orders and continued to receive a straight face and not a single word spoken in our direction, the bar tender served our drinks, an espresso martini served straight from the tap with a handful of beans thrown in (later we saw others drinks were being shaken and served with foam and 3 beans) and a margarita. We ordered chips and salsa, but were served chips and guac we were told by the server "no problem enjoy the chips and guac" and then were charged the extra $7 for the guac. While we enjoyed our food the bartender decided to come over and say "oh I just love saying shit so much, not directed at you all just in general I love talking shit" another server (or manager) came over and the bartender immediately started apologizing, we were polite and respectful the entire time and had just had enough at this point, I have never been so directly targeted for absolutely no reason at a restaurant before, we asked to close out and the manager comped our drinks but still charged us for the chips and guac we didn't even order. Salsa and guac were grocery store quality and drinks were obviously not up to par, don't waste your time or money
