It’s not that there’s anything hugely wrong about their place, it’s just challenging for me to find something that makes it stand out from some of the other great taco places we have in this neighborhood. Came in on a weekday evening didn’t need reservations, service was great and food came out fast. Prices are very par for the neighborhood which is expensive, but ultimately things just didn’t stand out where I would come back again necessarily.

I had a great experience at this restaurant. The staff was friendly, and the food was delicious. Edgar, in particular, stood out—he made excellent recommendations and was fun to chat with, adding a personal touch to the meal. The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated and has a vibrant, colorful atmosphere. It's not a budget-friendly spot, but that’s expected in this part of the city. Overall, a great location with a lively vibe and attentive service. Bonus: the staff is good-looking.

Google
Spontaneous date turned out amazing. The staff was super kind and actually cared about what they serve. Beef birria tacos? Melt-in-your-mouth magic. Shrimp tacos? Perfectly cooked and seasoned. Quick service, authentic vibe, and every taco feels crafted with care. If you love tacos, this is the spot.

Damn good tacos! We just got back from Mexico and eating here took us back. Also they have the best Mexican rice and beans. Everything was so good. 10/10 Will come back.

I visited Tacombi today at 9 PM, a full hour before closing, expecting to enjoy some tacos. To my shock, they flat-out refused to serve me, even though their listed closing time is 10 PM. When I questioned this, the manager acted like he owns the place and can make up whatever rules he wants. No apology, no explanation—just pure arrogance. The staff was incredibly rude, showing zero respect for customers. Instead of being accommodating, they were dismissive and made it clear they didn’t care. The attitude from the manager trickled down to the employees, making the entire atmosphere hostile and unwelcoming. I’ve never experienced such horrible customer service at a restaurant that claims to value hospitality. If this is how they treat paying customers, I can only imagine how little they care about the food quality. Avoid this place at all costs. There are plenty of taco spots where you’ll be treated with basic decency—this is NOT one of them.

Google
Awesome experience!!! Delicious tacos in a cute casual setting. Edgar took great care of us! Totally recommend for a great Mexican lunch! Make sure to get the watermelon agua Fresca & al pastor taco :)

Google
Everything amazing, service, food atmosphere. Definitely a place to bring your Abuelo’s to. The only complaint I could possibly think of is the napkins were too thin. The best tacos Ive had in a long time.

Google
The entire restaurant is super charming, they even had a handwashing station in the dining area, such a fun touch! 🌽 Corn Esquites The juicy corn kernels, mixed with Mexican spices and creamy cheese, stole our hearts instantly. 🐮 Beef Birria (brisket + cheese + broth) This one gets the gold medal from me! Crispy, hot taco filled with cheese and slow-braised beef, paired with a cup of rich beef broth—absolute perfection. 🦐 Sinaloa Shrimp (shrimp + cheese + avocado + onions) “I don’t usually eat shrimp” went back for seconds and declared it one of the most delicious shrimp dishes he’s ever had. 🐔 Pollo Yucateco (Chicken) The spiced chicken was decent—good but nothing particularly memorable. 🥩 Carne Asada (steak + onions + jalapeños) The steak was tender and flavourful, but we removed the jalapeños as they were a bit too spicy for our taste.

Yelp
Tacombi one of the best Taco spots in the city Chicago . Tacombi delivers a very unique spin on service where they give you a pencil and a menu that you check off , along with quantity of each menu item. I ordered the Baja Crispy Taco that was unbelievably Crispy , tender , juicy , topped with pickled cabbage , poblano Mayo , and pico - one of my favorites for a fish taco !!! Their "Guac Con Totopos"is a crowd pleaser!! Freshly made & will having you want seconds!! "Corn Esquites" delivers flavor on top of flavor - I highly recommend it!!! Tacos are a must try when you stop by Tacombi !!! Their Agua Fresca drinks: Watermelon Fresca : very refreshing to drink , Pineapple Fresca : very refreshing , enjoyable to drink , my go to drink when I visit !!!

Yelp
Dig this new place in Wicker Park! Tried the Birria, Carne Asada, and Baja fish tacos, and they were all good. Birria cakes with consommé! Rice and beans were good as well. My date had the sweet potato taco and she liked it! She said it was spicy. Also, had a couple margaritas and those were good. I love a shaken margarita. However, woke up with a nasty headache, so I don't know what that tequila was. But it tasted great! Would definitely return, service was good and the atmosphere is cool. I like the design for the neighborhood. Looking forward to trying more menu items. Welcome to the neighborhood! Oh, and I tried one chip in my rice and beans and it was awesome. The chips might be really good with the guacamole, next time. I took a pic of the Baja fish taco but now I can't find it in my phone! Sorry TBC thanks again! Cheers

Yelp
The tacos here were hit or miss. The al pastor was overcooked and chewy, but the birria was delicious with tender meat and gooey cheese. The shrimp taco stood out as the best, juicy and flavorful with a spicy sauce. The horchata was perfectly spiced as well. While the tacos are pricey at $7 each (even with the 1-for-1 Taco Tuesday deal), the shrimp and birria were definitely worth it.

Yelp
This place is cool, v much a wicker park vibe. Kid friendly, we went on a Saturday night, it was full of families, and kept us warm. The tacos were great! I got a Baja taco and an Al pastor, they have horchata, Topo Chico, and margaritas (also by the pitcher). Everything is seasoned well, has a great Mexico City feel when you walk in, and is overall great. Strongly suggest, esp if you have a family.

Yelp
Delicious fast casual taco spot in Wicker! This fast growing U.S. chain has a bright and fun ambiance. My husband and I dined in on our lunch break last Tuesday, because they have a Tuesday BOGO taco deal. The service was fast and everyone was so friendly! We ordered the sweet potato & black bean, Baja crispy fish, yucateco pollo, carne asada, and al pastor. They were delicious and a good size street taco! The sauces available just elevated the tacos. Excited to try the other items on the menu. Highly recommend this spot!

Yelp
Stopped in here for Happy Hour. Very cute place with an open concept. Restaurant comes from Playa del Carmen. Mostly street food to order but it looked liked it came quick. I have my eye on trying the fish taco when I return. For this occasion we just got drinks because we were headed to restaurant down the street with no booze. For drinks we tried the watermelon/tequila/lime cocktail. It was flavorful and was even better when Alexis made it spicy for me. By the way Alexis was super kind and thorough. He knew a lot about the history of the restaurant and other locations. We also tried the Michelada which is different than I have had before but good. I did enjoy the lager beer they had. Will definitely come visit this place again. They have birria tacos and the guacamole looked tasty.

Yelp
Literally came here 3 times already just to get their agua fresca! If you grab it to go, they put it in a cute little bottle with a screw on lid. Everytime I come I get the watermelon flavor because it's so fresh and sweet! Once I stopped by and was telling the manager (I think) how much I loved it and he gave me the pineapple agua fresca to try and it was so good! Great service and you can't go wrong when their agua fresca is so fresh and only about $4! I came and sat inside once with some friends and we ordered some guacamole and chips. The guac was so fresh and tasty! And the chips were extra crunchy. The small size was quite small and probably is better for just 1 person, so next time I would order a large to share. The small is a bit pricey but it was delicious so I can't really complain. The ambience is so fun and lively. It's bright and colorful inside and people seem to be having a great time. I loved that each table had a little coat rack next to it so you can hang your bags! So convenient and not obtrusive at all. Great touch. I need to come back to actually try the food and margaritas! And of course just for more agua fresca. Definitely recommend :)

Yelp
We were super excited for a new taco place but man, for what you get... the prices are a JOKE. I wanted to give a two but the servers were friendly and the food wasn't bad... but SEVEN dollars for one taco which has maybeeee 1.5 oz of meat?! You've gotta be kidding me. For the sake of the review, I will report on them though. We started with a beer and a spicy margarita- both good and $14 isn't unusual for marg but it was small and 90% ice. For tacos we got: - Birria - 8/10 very tasty but the greasiest iteration I have ever had and I have had a lot of birria tacos - Al Pastor - 7/10 lacked flavor and tiny meat portion on an already tiny taco - Seared fish 6/10 TINY piece of fish with a weird spice, the salsas were necessary - Steak 7.5/10 - this was good but again tiny and hardly filled at all Overall, no way in hell we will be back with these prices. They will be closed within a year if they don't drop them, I can guarantee it. we've been here three years and seen restaurant after restaurant close if you can't compete on this block and we would choose Bartaco or antique taco any day for better pricing.

Yelp
Aaron (spelling?) the manager was amazing! So genuine, so friendly, and so funny! Went to try the birria ramen which was delicious! Def will be returning. Vibes were high!

Yelp
So happy there is a Tacombi in Wicker Park! I first tried Tacombi in New York and it was delish! Now I can fulfill my craving all the time. The shrimp tacos are delish. It was my first time trying the sweet potato taco and it was good.

Yelp
I didn't realize this was a chain but now it makes sense. The decor does remind me of Mexico's taquerias and the juguerias in the mercado. Obviously this place is brand new, and I stopped by for a little solo lunch. I sat at the bar and was immediately greeted by a friendly server. The place was clean, lots of natural light, and I liked the sink to wash your hands, sometimes I just want to wash my hands before eating without having to go to the restroom. I wasn't expecting traditional street tacos, nor any resemblance to Mexican tacos. I ordered a carne asada and Baja crispy fish tacos. Plus a spicy marg. Yes, they were expensive for what I got...$6.98 each. I liked the fish taco better. I didn't like the salsas in the plastic bottles, they tasted store bought (Herdez, Goya). The spicy marg was average and not spicy at all. But the playlist was hitting hard with Flans, Caifanes, Jungle Fire...

Yelp
Tacos sucked bad lol. So far the worst In the city. I was actually exited to try these tacos but they were horrible and cold. The server guy looked like he was doing me a favor on taking my order, he didn't even give me the chance to sit at a normal table, he made me sit at the bar. The. I get the tacos and asked him for hot sauce a d the brings one that was dipped by some other people yeah a d it was expensive !! Waste of money and time if u guys want good al pastor tacos just go down the block at the l huentitlan on north and Pulaski

Yelp
Was in the mood for tacos and this spot was across from Taco Bell so it thought I'd give it a try vs a chain. Over priced if you ask me, I ordered 3 tacos and a quesadilla and the total was $34. This was the smallest quesadilla I've ever had for $10, and it wasn't that great. The food wasn't bad at all, just not worth the value. The staff were very friendly and helpful, they do offer to go alcoholic drinks which I may stop by for in the future however I won't be back for the food.

Yelp
This place is very special. It truly feels as if you are dining in Mexico. There was only one server and one bartender and they definitely didn't expect the rush they got this Friday. Hopefully management will set them up for better success. The server was so kind and helpful even though he had to wait on the entire restaurant. We had the esquites and guac to start. Both were fantastic. We had the Costilla Califa de Leon (they forgot the salsas) and several tacos. Everything was delicious and everyone who worked there was wonderful. I blame management for not properly staffing on a Friday. Will return.
google avatar

Jorge C.

Yelp
From the moment you walk-in, the lighting stands out. Personally, I enjoyed the yellow vibe. It's out of the ordinary. Ordered the Califa de Leon Tacos and was thoroughly impressed with its flavor yet simplicity. However, the wait was very long. Around 30 plus minutes for two tacos. However, the wait staff was very apologetic for the wait and provided an appetizer as an apology. 6.5/10

Yelp
This used to be Personal Privilege, remember that? This is the second location here. The original is in the West Loop which I haven't been too. The staff and service is excellent.

Yelp
Stopped for tacos and to try the new special tacos, what a let down this place is just awful and not consistent. Much better Mexican elsewhere.

Yelp
Great food , drinks and service. I believe our waiter's name was Alexis. They take care of all of their customers well. Nice , cozy environment with good people. Will return to this restaurant

Yelp
Showed up five minutes before they were closing with six people and ordered most everything on the menu. It was great. Please felt like it was carved out of D.F. 100% legit.

Jessie S.

Yelp
The staff were generally attentive: however the food was underwhelming and not worth the purported hype. The price point for the meal was not on par with other establishments in the Wicker Park area nor as delicious as other Top Rated and established Mexican Restaurants/Taquerias in Chicago. The only saving grace was the shot of Mezcal. Summary: if the salsa is underwhelming that speaks volumes. This place may serve vibes....but that's about it. Go elsewhere.

Caleb L.

Yelp
I was here with my brother and his husband. We waited in line for their pop-up Michelin starred restaurant out of Mexico City only to get turned away after 6 hours. We were promised that they would make it right with free alcoholic beverages or tacos if we do not drink. We returned the next week, and after being served the most tasteless tacos I've ever eaten, we went to pay. We were told that, despite calling back a couple days before to make sure that they were still honoring the deal of a free mixed drink or pair of tacos, that they would no longer honor this. Instead we were offered 2 agua frescas to, I guess split amongst the 3 of us? We declined their less than generous offer and left incredibly disappointed. I felt utterly disrespected by the way this situation was handled. I work a lot of events in Chicago as a member of one of the local unions that is often called upon to help with large events in the surrounding areas. I will make it a point to vehemently disparage this place when asked about it, or for recommendations. I sincerely hope nobody else that waited in that line with us was treated with such disrespect. Shame on you Tacombi.

Yelp
I couldn't help but feel like an idiot eating there. The restaurant is a meme. Authentic Mexican 4" street tacos for authentic post-modern late-stage capitalism prices of $7 each. We spent $40 on 4 tiny tacos (after tip). It's embarrassing. My wife and I have made jokes about it all weekend making fun of ourselves for being stupid enough to think that somehow $7 tiny street tacos are worth trying. They're not. If you eat there, you are an idiot (just like me) and I will point and laugh at everyone inside when I walk by there every day. This place existing is literally making fun of you and your willingness to pay $7 for a tiny street taco. I feel personally attacked and I can't help but think it's the whole point of the experience. Have you seen the movie The Menu? I won't spoil it but if you've not seen it, but eating at Tacombi feels like you're at the Hawthorne. I promise you, you will feel more fulfillment giving your money to the homeless, needy, and/or migrants in Wicker Park. The tacos were mid. The salsa on the table was very good. No, you don't get tortilla chips when dining in. My god I just realized what Tacombi means. TacoMBI. Millennials Be Idiots. Touché, Tacombi, Touché.

Bryan L.

Yelp
My husband, my brother and myself drove 3 hours, then waited in line for 6 more on the opening day of their collaboration with El Califa de León at the Wicker Park location. We were turned away after getting about 15 people from the door, as they needed to close. No worries, though. We got these green spoons that would allow us to get a free alcoholic beverage, or two free tacos due to show their appreciation, or if we came back the next day we'd get priority access for all 4 meats. As we live so far, that wasn't an option for us on such short planning. We called again on 11/20 to reiterate that this was still the case. We once again, made a 6 hour round trip drive to try these tacos on 11/22. The tacos themselves were very mediocre and overpriced, but we'd get a deal on them so we could look past that, or so we thought. When we proceeded to check out, we were told that they would no longer honor the green spoons. When we explained what we were told, they offered an aqua fresca, which was 1/3 of the price of what we were told we'd receive. I tried to reason with the gentleman, and was given $10 off after they added an extra charge. 8 tasteless tacos, a coke, and and agua fresca was $80. The salsa was pretty good, I suppose. I'm in Chicago semi-regularly for events, and I will never step foot in this establishment again. I don't appreciate being lied to. A business should honor their word when they make promises to customers. This place? They'd rather take advantage of their customers. I'd never recommend anybody I know venture into this establishment.

Diane S.

Yelp
Fell for the Michelen starred nonsense and received a thin slice of meat on a plain corn tortilla w a side of 2 sauces that were just okay. My friend's burrito was mid at best. 2 tiny tacos, a mediocre burrito, and 1 horchata was $40. Never returning.

Courtney J.

Yelp
Delicious and seamless ordering, the drinks were also delightful. Would definitely go back!

Sue D.

Yelp
Two people in my party hadn't gotten their food when the rest of us had long already finished our food. After the waitress checked, she came back to the table and said it was already served it to us!!! Basically accusing us of lying. Like the two people ate it quick and were trying to scam them! Great food. Horrible management ruined it for me
google avatar

Shirley S.

Yelp
Wow this place blew my mind and I wish we had it in LA. My friend and I were in AWW! I really want them to open a LA location because I would be there all the time. The happy hour prices are so worth it for buy one get one free. The drinks were delicious as well. Super welcoming with the service. Thank you!

Jessica P.

Yelp
I am so glad tacombi opened in the neighborhood! I've been multiple times and the service is amazing. The tacos are some of the best in the city. It's a little pricey for sure but minimally more expensive than other places in the area and totally worth it. I had an order with something missing in it and the manager went above and beyond to make it right which I really appreciated. I will keep coming back for the food quality and amazing staff.

Jasmine E.

Yelp
My husband and I just tried to dine here at 9:55pm on a Friday night when they are open til 11pm and we were turned away because they were 'closing'. A large group of white people walked in after us and they were allowed to order and were seated for dine in. Do not patron here the service is disrespectful and frankly discriminatory.

Yelp
I wasn't going to leave a bad review but after trying to contact them and not hearing back I felt I had no choice. I went there to try out their Michelin star tacos & their own as well. After ordering a couple of times because they kept telling us they didn't have something after ordering it, they still didn't bring out our food because they forgot to put the order in . Most of our food was served cold or room temperature & we got the chips and guac once we were done eating. Also everything was pretty bland & flavorless. Unfortunately after leaving the restaurant I started feeling ill, I didn't eat anything else that day because of how sick I felt. Later that night I realized it was food poisoning, it was the worst pain ever. Definitely not quality & not worth the money and wait. I tried to reach out to them to let them know to be more careful next time and it's been weeks and I have yet to hear back from them .

Sandra V.

Yelp
Was walking in the neighborhood with my husband and our baby when we decide to walk in. It was about 45 minutes before closing. The Chef/waiter let us know it would have to be take-out, which was completely understandable. But when the Chef took our order, he did not even acknowledge me, only handed my husband a menu, and when I gave him my order, he ask my husband if that was all. Then when he gave us the order, I extended my hand to take the bag and he went right over my arm to hand my husband the order. They also only gave us one salsa for 5 tacos! This place is completely overated. Would only order through an app. So disappointed!

Andrea F.

Yelp
Really good food, staff was super nice, will definitely be back for 2 for 1 Tuesday. Everyone raved about the fish taco but the carne asada was the best imho
google avatar

Hey B.

Yelp
I was going to cava but the line was huge so I went here since it looked good and I can't say I regret it the service was good and the tacos were good especially the shrimp taco Sinaloa
google avatar

matthew f.

Yelp
Great food/drinks, friendly staff and a nice atmosphere! Haven't found anything else like this in the neighborhood

D K.

Yelp
Saw that a Michelin starred chef was going to be making tacos here and wanted to try them. Was completely underwhelmed by the thin slice of meat on a tortilla, nothing else, was actually quite bizarre. The other bizarre part was that they were controlling how many people came in, maybe to insure there was a line outside? There were empty tables inside. Disappointed and would not return.
google avatar

Nicole R.

Yelp
Randomly popped in for a snack while on a walk with a friend. Marco was beyond welcoming and accommodating to our questions and preferences! I started with the shrimp taco and immediately ordered a second - best shrimp taco I've ever had! The Al Pastor was also quite remarkable! I texted 3 of my foodie friends post visit letting them know how amazing the tacos are at Tacombi! I came back the next day for happy hour and had another pleasant experience! Great tacos, festive vibes, you won't be disappointed!

Patty C.

Yelp
Do not order a glass of wine here. Definitely stick with a beer! The glass the wine is served in and the amount they pour is laughable. Go for the happy hour beer, enjoy the fantastic shrimp taco & avoid the overpriced wine.

Dmytro K.

Yelp
the atmosphere was quite good, but I didn't like the food. it wasn't tasty and the portions were much smaller than I expected

S K.

Yelp
INCREDIBLE. Such cool vibes. I'm obsessed. It's very old school and the design is really fun. The staff are amazing and the food is amazing. I LOVED the Al pastor taco, and my husband got the beef Burria and carne asada. I also got the seared fish taco and wasn't a huge fan. This is a fun spot to visit. Really cool old school vibes. I'm obsessed with their website. I love that they have the purse hooks under the bar and a rack near the tables for your bags etc. it was a really awesome place. Feels super Y2K mixed with old school taco place. Really awesome.

Michael R.

Yelp
The burrito was comically small, and everything else we ordered was just okay. Prices were way too high for the food you are getting.

Paul R.

Yelp
The street tacos were very flavorful and the salsa was honestly the best part. Service was fast, and the inside was clean and nice. Any place with custom menus and take out bags adds a nice touch. The only reason they get 3/5 starts is $6+ for a street taco is wayyy over priced.

Tamaiya C.

Yelp
Exceptional food & customer Service. Everyone was nice & it was no static. The food was excellent try the shrimp taco & the watermelon margarita.

Jeff C.

Yelp
One of my favorite chains is finally nearby in Wicker Park. The food and service is exceptional and our server, MJ, made our dining experience all the more enjoyable.

Katy M.

Yelp
Atmosphere and food. The two things a restaurant should get right, and two things that Tacombi excels at. Friendly and accommodating staff, whose tacos brought a satisfaction I've experienced at very few eateries. If I could shark tank this ish, I would.

Emily G.

Yelp
We just ate here, and I was so surprised to see the ratings but okay, please look at these reviews-- the 2 low ratings are from people who prefer Taco Bell?! The food here is sooo good! The vibes and ambiance is right on and the staff is friendly and efficient. Seriously some of the best tacos in Chicago.
