The West Loop’s Boozy Taco Spots, Ranked - Chicago - The Infatuation

"The last thing a city full of taquerias needs is a national chain cosplaying as one. But Tacombi, a taqueria chain with locations all over the East Coast co-owned by one of the Shake Shack guys, opened on Randolph and Peoria. The food is pretty good: they have chewy tortillas, crispy quesabirria, spicy esquites, and all the meat is flavorful. Still, it’s hard to shake the feeling you’re at a Disney-esque “Taqueria World” while waiting 20 minutes for a $9 taco on a branded folding chair and table staring at the entrance to Gin Alley." - adrian kane

Tacombi Chicago is Now Open in West Loop | Eater Chicago

"Backed by a $27.5 million investment from Enlightened Hospitality and founded by Dario Wolos after starting as a Volkswagen ‘combi’ taco van in the Yucatán, this casual West Loop outpost combines ambitious expansion plans with a thoughtfully designed space featuring hand-painted signage, lots of plants, a host stand and a visible trompo. The menu centers on regional Mexican offerings: a hulking marinated pork trompo for al pastor tacos and quesadillas, Baja-style fried fish, quesabirria, a black bean and sweet potato option, and all-day breakfast tacos such as al pastor with egg. Customers can see agua frescas behind the counter, and agave-based cocktails like margaritas are popular during happy hour; chips (labeled totopos, sometimes called tortilla chips in small print) are charged rather than complimentary. While the operation’s flexibility and quick-service elements may recall fast-casual assembly lines, the intent is to showcase regional Mexican foods with city-specific menus and a more casual dining experience in Chicago (open daily 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.)." - Ashok Selvam

It has been disappointing to see how the food has changed over the last few months. I used to enjoy Tacombi frequently but my most recent visits have been a letdown - especially with the portion sizes. Pictured - the Al Pastor Burrita as advertised versus what was received

Date of Review: 08/25/2025 Time of Review: 05:47PM Location of Review: Tacombi; West Loop Location Overall Review: FOOD/TASTE= Red and Green Salsa> B, the red was somewhat spice and the green salsa was reminiscent of indian style mint chutney Corn & Esquites> A $4.88 Corn cut from the cob, topped with cotija cheese, homemade morita mayo, chile powder and fresh lime – and it’s all served in a cup. Contains Dairy, Contains Wheat or Gluten Creamy and buttery with a sweet and salt contrast. Nothing need esle needed. Rice & Beans> A $5.48 Traditional Mexican arroz verde served with beans cooked with tomatillo, epazote and poblano pepper, topped Buttery and warm. Not bad at all. Baja Crispy Fish Taco>B $7.98 Voted “Absolute Best Fish Taco” by New York Mag. Beer-battered North Atlantic cod topped with pico de gallo and homemade roasted poblano mayo. Now comes with pickled cabbage. Beef Birria Taco>B $7.48 The Famous Taco from Jalisco! A taco with Chihuahua cheese, served with a consomé for dipping and sipping! A savory, sweet & slightly spicy Mexican flavor from tender, braised brisket in chiles, garlic, herbs & spices. Crispy Chicken Tinga Taco>C $6.98 ¡NUEVO! Free-range chicken tinga and crispy thigh served with escabeche, spicy habanero crema on two freshly pressed, red guajillo tortillas. Flavors and textures components were balanced, however, the shredded chicken was dry, consider stewing/steeping shredded cooked meat using a ban marie method with flavoring broth to maintain moisture as well as reinforce flavor. Blue Moon and Agaua ATMOSPHERE = A Clean, vibrant with a nice latin Caribbean fusion music selection. SERVICE = A Server knew her stuff. Very hospitable and friendly. Even suggested a few off menu items. Returning: Definitely Final words: Tacombi has made its mark on the west loop corridor. The menu selections definitely took you back to that authentic mexico city street taco vibe. Service was great and atmosphere was clean and vibrant with nice music selections.

Google
Food was truly amazing; the Crispy Chicken Tinga has a kick to it and was my favorite! Having the restaurant front open was cool until a man came up to us asking us to buy him food, the waiter also mentioned on really hot days it can be brutal in there, but there are ceiling fans inside and we were very comfortable. My friend also ordered a piña colada and I had their classic margarita and both were strong, tasty & refreshing! This place is also kinda expensive but it's worth the experience, best tacos l've had in Chicago so far!

Google
I highly recommend Tacombi. I was in the area and wanted a quick snack, so I came and ordered an Avocado Tostada and Black Bean and Sweet Potato Taco. They were both delicious, as well as the crafy Orange Soda and amazing salsas. I will be returning for a breakfast taco.

Google
Bland and not filling. Trying too hard to mimic a taco stand from Mexico, but the food doesn’t come close in taste, and the salsas aren’t nearly spicy enough. I had three tacos: the pastor isn’t even close to a real one from Mexico—restaurants should really call it what it is, marinated pork. The beef ribeye was another disappointment: two thin slices of ham-like ribeye, resembling Arby’s, just a bit crispier. And finally, the birria—another letdown. Cheese in it?! Consomé served in a cup that makes it hard to dip the taco. “Burritas”? Clever name, but these are not typical of a taco stand in Mexico. If anything, they should be offering tortas. Drinks seemed fine, but bad food does not entice you to drink. A disappointing experience — I will not eat here again.

Google
Stopped in because I was told the carne asada was a must-try and I had such a good experience! Our server, Brandy, was prompt, knowledgable, and so friendly! One of the chefs, Nick, came to our table to collaborate accommodating my gluten allergy and went out of his way to make sure we enjoyed our food. Great vibes, great food, great people!

Google
A friend suggested this place after seeing a social media influencer review. Had a reservation yesterday and started my Sunday off with tacos. I ordered one Baja crispy fish taco, and two pan seared fish tacos, and one Pollo Yucateco taco. The Baja fish taco was fried well, but needed more seasoning. The chicken taco was pretty good. For my choice of my beverage, I went with the Aura de Jamaica drink. I didn’t like it. The waiter gave me some agave and it tasted better. My friend enjoyed the corn in the cup too.

Google
First time here and it was amazing. We got a bunch of different things for the table and the service was quick, friendly and very attentive. We got the beef birria tacos (delicious), Al pastor, black bean and sweet potato (also delicious), shrimp, corn esquites, and chips and guacamole. Everything was really tasty and tasted fresh, but my favorites were the birria tacos and beans and sweet potatoes. They were light and savory but also filling. Can’t wait to go back and try more.

Yelp
A coworker suggested lunch here and I'm so glad she did. Just stepping thru the door I knew the food would be good and I was right. Every single worker was nice and welcoming. They have a bar as well. The seating isn't that comfortable but who cares when the food is so good. First of all they have the best chips and salsa I've ever had in my life! The flavor on the chips along with the crispness is insane! I would be happy enjoying that alone! However I enjoyed the fish tacos with a side of rice. All delicious!!! Everything was cooked perfectly with authentic mexican flavor. I will be a regular here.

Yelp
The place was busy when we walked in and waited while before we got seated. The doors are open where we got seated which made it cold but the music and ambiance inside was nice! We got the fish taco and birria taco which was good but the birria consume was a little salty but overall the food was good. We also got a pina colada and didn't realize it was big but it was good and a little strong. This is perfect for two people to share. We also got their street corn and it was so nice and warm. The taco do comes with fresh cilantro salsa and a spicy sauce which was really good. It was a Friday night and it was such a great vibe. We have to Come back and try their churros.

Yelp
Man I must have caught this spot on a bad day aka an empty Sunday late afternoon....2 carne asada burritos and both were trash...meat tasted off and zero flavor in rice with no flavor and burrito tortilla was somewhat overcooked and tough....I managed to eat my entire burrito reluctantly and my girlfriend took a few bites of hers and threw into garbage. I've eaten here before in the past and it was pretty good to Excellent...Must have had some call offs or something.

Yelp
Birria burrito was absolutely delicious - especially the consommé that comes with it, so so so craveable! (and great drunk food )

Yelp
Takeout - carne asada burrito. For the price, the portion size has much to be desired. Barely filling but a nice pressed tortilla. The steak was salty, rice was bland, and overall lacked any true redeemable qualities. Salsa was fresh but didn't pack a punch or have a full flavor.

Yelp
Was in the mood for tacos and stumbled upon this spot. I came on a Friday however they have half price tacos on Tuesdays so I'll definitely be back. Whenever I see birria tacos on the menu I have to try it. I also ordered the shrimp taco per the recommendation of our waiter. The Birria tacos were good but I will say the shrimp tacos flavor was better. The place has an authentic Mexican touch to it inside. We also tried the sandia santa drink and it's strong for warning.

Yelp
I wanted to love this place so bad. Let's start with the atmosphere. I love what they did with the space - tons of room and good vibes. Very fitting for Fulton Market. Maybe I just ordered the wrong things? I got the chicken tinga taco and baja fish taco. The fish taco was my favorite. We also got chips and guac for the table which tasted pretty standard. Everything just tasted pretty average at best. My husband said his birria taco was his favorite. The prices are steep but that's expected in the area. There are definitely way better Mexican options in the city, but I'm sure the vibes here are fun! I think I have to give this place a second chance.

Yelp
This place makes you feel like you are in a taqueria in mexico. All detail in the location makes you get the full experience. Food is overpriced for a taqueria and with a fusion/upscale taco experience. The rib eye burrito was tasty. Just needed a steak and topic generosity being that most of the burrito was the tortilla wrapping. Al pastor was not the greatest and did not taste fresh. Service began well then lacking in attention despite location being half empty. The tunes playing were both Mexican hits and reguetón classics. Good vibe.

Yelp
I love the casual open concept of this place, it felt very inviting and the staff were prompt and kind with service. I ordered the Baja crispy fish taco and the crispy chicken taco, which was surprisingly good. I enjoyed the complimentary fresh chips & salsa as well. To drink, I ordered the hibiscus margarita, I didn't enjoy this at all. I forced myself to finish it but the flavors just didn't mix well in my opinion. I'm not sure if the tacos are worth $6-$7 for just one, but it is Fulton Market so I guess that's to be expected. I'd probably stop back in for a quick bite to eat if I didn't have other options.

Yelp
Great Taco Tuesday Spot! I'm always on the lookout for new restaurants, and I stumbled upon this Mexican spot for lunch--definitely a gem! They have a Buy 1 Get 1 Free taco deal on Tuesdays, which is a solid reason to come by midweek. The service is quick, the space is roomy, and they've got a great variety of taco options. I highly recommend the Baja fish and birria tacos--both were packed with flavor and perfectly cooked. Also, don't skip the elote corn--it's absolutely delicious! Great spot for a casual lunch or a quick bite with friends. I'll definitely be back!

Yelp
Fun and lively atmosphere, and attentive service. Came here after work and started with an agua de piña. My initial assessment of a taquería is usually based on the pastor, and the al pastor taco did not disappoint. I also found the birria taco juicy and flavorful. These are the two I would recommend. Neither of us particularly enjoyed the tinga - the chicken and double tortilla were dry and lacking in flavor. As for the fish taco, the fish was cooked well but could have done with less of the creamy sauce. I recommend you come on a Tuesday and enjoy the outdoors!

Yelp
Shoutout Diondre for the incredible service and hospitality. I'd make a trip back just to sit at the bar and chat with him! Every staff member here was so nice, smiley, and friendly. Seriously a great spot for groups or solo meals (like I enjoyed!) Watermelon agua Fresca was perfection (not too sweet and super refreshing) Chips are fresh, crunchy, light, airy and well seasoned. Free with every table!

Yelp
Where da semi-tasty, mildly overpriced tacos at? RIght here lol! Tacos here are decent, but nothing special in a neighborhood full of taco joints. The seared fish is the best I've had here. Im an Al Pastor fan and its ok, again nothing special. Love the pineapple on top though. Staff here is nice and sitting on the outdoor patio in warmer months is always cool. If you sit inside they usually have it opened up to get that nice breeze as well. The place itself is a nice size.

Yelp
Another great time at Tacombi! Quick service, and always a great vibe here! The chips and salsa here are so good. They were out of horchata but I got a hibiscus drink and it was tasty! I tried the birria ramen and I'm obsessed! This was sooo good, the noodles were great! I wish this was here to stay! I also got the elotes and this was great! Can't wait to come back!

Yelp
The ambiance of the place was nostalgic as I miss my hometown mercado and it reminded me a lot of that. The roll down doors were up, and it was really cold inside, so it made us eat a bit faster so food would not get cold. Drinks: Horchata: 2/10, this batch was VERY watered down, but I did enjoy that "cantarito" taste at the end of it. IYKYK Jamaica: 7/10, I enjoyed that is wasn't sweet, my partner not so much. Food: Corn Esquites: 9/10: I enjoyed that smoky mayo Al Pastor: 9/10 Carne Asada: 10/10 Top Fave Baja Crispy Fish: 10/10 Top Fave Beef Birria: 7/10, the consome was coldish, but it was due to the place being freezing. The flavor wasn't there. Sinaloa Shrimp: 9/10

Yelp
How good can a chain Mexican restaurant be? If it's this one, pretty good! I walked in absolutely starving, and while I was initially hesitant about ordering three tacos at $7 each, I went for it. They do offer a deal on Tuesdays, which definitely makes the pricing feel more reasonable. The service was friendly, though the restaurant can get pretty loud, and it was a bit tough to get the staff's attention. They didn't check in on our table much, which was noticeable. That said, the horchata was excellent, and the birria tacos really impressed me, easily the standout. I even shared my broth with the table, and everyone loved it. If you're craving solid tacos and good vibes (especially on a Tuesday), this spot is definitely worth a visit.

Yelp
This was my first time at Tacombi. I tried to make it to the official pop up for the Tacombi and El Califa de Leon collaboration, but turned around after seeing the insane line wrapped around the Wicker Park location. The website, Yelp, and Google pages showed they were open; however, they didn't open until 5PM today. Once open, we were seated quickly. The restaurant is casual. I appreciated that they had small coat racks for each table, which is great for the fall/winter time. The menu is very straightforward with few appetizers, tacos, quesadillas, and burritos. We ordered the tacos from the collaboration for $22, which included two Costilla and two chuleta tacos. After reading some reviews, we also ordered two Baja crispy fish and two birria tacos. The tacos came out as they were ready; service was fast! Given that this was a special collaboration with the first Michelin starred taqueria, we were most excited to try the costilla and chuleta tacos. The tacos consist of the tortilla and thinly sliced meat. It's very simple. I didn't find the meats to be flavorful on its own. Our waiter emphasized the need to use the two salsas, and I could see why. The salsas carry the flavor of the tacos. I found the chuleta to be more tender, juicy, and slightly more savory than the costilla. I felt that the tacos were overall very underwhelming. I really enjoyed the birria and the baja crispy fish taco. I will say that the tacos are on the pricier end, but they are good. I'll definitely stop by again to try some of the other things on their menu.

Yelp
Great casual and authentic taco spot in the West Loop. It's a pretty big location so they have tons of seating. They have tacos, burritos and quesadillas. You order on a sheet of paper and the waiter comes to your table to take your order. I enjoyed their al pastor and carne asada tacos. They have 3 different types of salsa at the table that they make in house, they were all delicious and went well with the tacos. The green salsa is the most mild. The red one was my favorite and was spicier. I would totally buy this salsa it was so good!! The service was also prompt and friendly.
google avatar

Sam L.

Yelp
Came here during the El Califa de Leon popup on accident, so the wait time was super long and we decided to get takeout instead, but loved the experience nonetheless! Super nice space, lots of seats and a great vibe, and the staff were extra friendly. Ordered the al pastor quesadilla, and was definitely impressed. Perfectly cheesy, the meat was delicious, and the onions and cilantro added the perfect balance to the saltier cheese and meat. Would totally come back if I'm in the area.

Yelp
LOADED WITH FLAVOR! Best tacos in Chicago! We will definitely come back. Casual seating, lots of tables, very fast service.

Yelp
I always walk by this place, but I never went in for food until Friday night I was just craving for some tacos. I got the Al Pastor and Shrimp tacos to go, but just ate it outside where the restaurant had patio seating set up. They were super busy inside, but my order was ready in 15mins just like how the app had estimated. Interior was super cute! They had like a bar area then like a taco stand kind of truck inside. The al pastor tacos were super good and I will definitely come back for more! I like that they have a piece of pineapple so that way every time you take a bite, there's pineapple along with the al pastor. I actually prefer it this way over cooking the pineapple bits and pieces with the al pastor. The shrimp tacos were phenomenal! The seasoning was really good and shrimps were super juicy on each bite. The shrimp had a good kick to it or maybe I just put a little too much green sauce on it, but either way I had a blast eating these tacos. I love that they have deals here on DoorDash which gives me the opportunity to all the flavors are a very reasonable price! I cannot wait to be back here for some late night tacos!
google avatar

Yelp
What a great place! Stopped in for taco Tuesday (buy one get one free) all day! We also strolled in around 6:30pm and was still happy hour. Go on Tuesdays for taco deal and happy hour drinks, win win! Coming from California I've missed a good taco shop that's dependable. The birria, seared fish, and Baja crispy fish were all wonderful. We also got the carne asada and al pastor which were tasty but probably wouldn't get again with the other options. The price per taco is pretty steep but the taco Tuesday deal makes it well worth it!
google avatar

Yelp
Michelin star pop up for a few weeks so I made the trip. I honestly don't know how it has a star. I'm not exactly sure about the logistics in Tacombi with the ingredients and chefs vs in Mexico but I wouldn't ever think twice about eating this again. I tried both the steak and pork. The steak wasn't flavorful while the pork was a little better but over salted. It also just had one big cut of meat rather than your more typical pieces. The tortillas were super oily and then the two homemade salsas weren't good. Finally, $22 for four tacos is pretty in line with prices these days but they weren't even close to being worth that. Cool to try another Michelin star spots food, but not a fan.
google avatar

Alexander B.

Yelp
Stopped here for lunch and tacos / tostadas were great. The birria taco was my favorite - perfectly cooked and flavorful. The atmosphere was relaxed and the place had open air access which is perfect in the summer. The servers were also quick and attentive. I'd say the only downside is the food price - $7 for one small taco is quite high. Other than that, it was great!
google avatar

Rachel M.

Yelp
Delicious food!! Great service! The tacos were amazing, and messy, I love that there's a handwashing station! Such a cute addition. The vibe is great - open to the outside (but still cool enough inside during the July heat), fun music (but not too loud). We tried quite a few things on the menu - loved the esquites!! Rice and beans were awesome, the fish taco was the highlight!
google avatar

Yelp
Lively, fun friday! Enjoyed Birra & fish tacos, corn, salsa & guacamole. Cafeteria style ordering & seating. No personal servers. It was very busy, short wait for food. Recommend.

Alex S.

Yelp
This is my first yelp review ever, and for good reason. This place is unbelievable, the food, the ambience, but most importantly the staff. I asked if I could buy a container of salsa and the owner gave me an entire to go container for free. Thank you very much Juan and company for providing an unbelievable experience!

Yelp
Had an amazing time, stumbled upon here after a work event and we were starving. Service was great and we became friends with the team who works here, everyone was truly delightful! We tried all the tacos and got chips/guac and elote. Elote is always my fav and my go to, it was so good. They let us test the margs and they were SO GOOD. Cannot wait to be back to get one next time! Favorite taco was fish and carne asada (messy but good). This place is really cute, casual and fun. We'll definitely be back sometime soon

Yelp
Tacoma has its own rules and its own vibe. One is service with a wink. We were waiting outside in November and the host appears in the line with a stack of paper cups and a bottle of mezcal, proceeds to pour it dry. Tacos were delightful. I had a challenge as a keto eater. They don't carry a lettuce base and we were stumped. Solution! Shredded cabbage. Just order your taco on a bed of shredded cabbage, no tortilla, and each comes out in a little bowl. Finally a way for keto folks to enjoy the place.
google avatar

Tom O.

Yelp
Ordered one taco thru DoorDash. Having a few drinks I thought it was a taco dinner- seeing it was around 20 bucks without tip. Turns out it was one taco with fee that ran over 23 bucks. Will never do that again or order from this place
google avatar

Annie K.

Yelp
Delicious food, friendly service, chill ambience, West Loop prices ($5-7 per taco). We had the shrimp, birria, fish, and al pastor tacos, and the avocado tostada, but my favorite was actually the horchata. Area of improvement would be cleanliness ~ sat outside on their patio on a Saturday afternoon and our table was grimey, napkins inside napkin holder were soiled with salsa, and there was quite a bit of garbage on the ground. They have buy one get one free tacos on Tuesdays; I'd return for that and get a table inside.
google avatar

Yelp
Went for a taco Tuesday deal (buy one get one) and happy hour ($9 margs). And the food was just okay. Came out fast, was a bit cold when it came out which I'm unsure how. The birria was standard, not super flavorful and honestly not enough cheese. A solid 5/10. The carne asada taco was pretty decent, not the best but not the worst. 6/10. The chicken taco was the standout. I rarely get chicken tacos because the chicken often served is dry and flavorless. So I was pleasantly surprised when the chicken was juicy and flavorful. Had a good spice seasoning marinade. Chips and guac were okay, guac tasted like a worse Chipotle quac. Not much flavor at all. Not a fan of the salsas they have. Very oily and not much flavor. Margs were mid, the watermelon one may be good to some folks but I wasn't much of a fan. The original was also okay, I've had better standard margs at my local Mexican spot. Overall, I will not be back. Was not worth the $40. Service was good tho, the restaurant was quite cold, so make sure to bring a jacket.
google avatar

Yelp
A must try Taco Tuesday spot! You can mix and match buy-one-get-one tacos and they're absolutely amazing. I got 2 of the Crispy Fish Tacos and 2 of the Shrimp Tacos, and although I don't eat corn tortillas, (they only have corn for tacos at least) the protein and accompaniments were perfectly cooked and seasoned. I also got the corn esquites (way too spicy for me because I have the spice tolerance of a child) and my friends loved it! They finished my portion as soon as I offered it up. Interior is super fun and casual for a quick dinner or a round of margs. They also have good happy hour deals on drinks until 6 if you're drinking! Our waiter Steve was the icing on the cake, as he was super attentive and put up with my many questions. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
This taco spot was awesome and loved the open space and flow of the restaurant from the outside and inside. The patio seating looked like a vibe, but it was busy so we sat indoors which was just as great of an ambiance! The server was super quick to order our food. I appreciated the tables having the small pieces of paper to write down the quantities of each order and ordered al pastor and carne asada tacos along with rice and beans. I also wanted an horchata, but unfortunately ran out of it and opted for an agua de sandia instead. The watermelon juice did not disappoint! Extremely fresh and natural! The tacos were all amazing and delicious. The prices are steep, but you pay for that when you come to the West Loop. I love this spot and will definitely return!

So good, great deals and delicious. Taco Tuesday was the best. BOGO on the tacos! The shrimp and fish tacos were excellent and damn that secret sauce is the bomb! Definitely need to come back for their happy hour and to try out more dishes.

Yelp
We came here on a Sunday night and it was easier to find a table. Our server was really good and took our order right away. I like their Horchata. Their tacos was good too, but definitely not worth the price. They were kind of bland. We ordered five of the different types of tacos they had so it was a good variety. I would rather go across the street to Velvet. Really not much more to say.

Yelp
Only great things to say about this place! From the second we walked through the door the staff were so friendly! The environment here is perfect for a casual lunch or snack. I loved that all the tables had coat racks and hooks for purses and jackets. I ordered a fried fish taco, a shrimp taco, and a hibiscus auga fresca. While we were waiting for our food, they brought us chips and salsa. The chips were warm which was a nice touch. Our tacos came out a couple minutes later and we devoured them. The shrimp taco was flavorful, but the fried fish taco was my highlight. It was so incredibly delicious and the fish practically melted in my mouth. The sauce enhanced the flavor of the fish and added a bit of heat. I'll definitely be back here again!

Yelp
First time here and it was amazing. We got a bunch of different things for the table and the service was quick, friendly and very attentive. We got the beef birria tacos (delicious), Al pastor, black bean and sweet potato (also delicious), shrimp, corn esquites, and chips and guacamole. Everything was really tasty and tasted fresh, but my favorites were the birria tacos and beans and sweet potatoes. They were light and savory but also filling. Can't wait to go back and try more.

Yelp
I visited Tacombi a few weeks ago with my buddy on a Wednesday night around 7pm with no wait. I read on Eater that the El Califa de Leon Michelin star chef visited Tacombi as a popup. Really cool vibes on the inside as it's fresh and colorful; however, the seats were not the comfiest. There is a pen and paper at the tables and you order exactly like an AYCE sushi restaurant. We started off with margaritas, which were solid, and I ordered a chicken quesadilla and Al Pastor, Steak, and Baja Fish tacos. The quesadilla was the best item and the best value as there was plenty of chicken and the portion size was bigger. Definitely a different style quesadilla as they don't fold the tortilla. So I am guessing that is for the gram... The Baja Fish taco was pretty good as it had the most protein, but the Steak and Al Pastor tacos were mid to bad. They did not much flavor as the meat was way overcooked and there was not that much meat. I did think that the tacos were authentic so that is a plus. Tacos were ok, just nothing spectacular. Unfortunately, they were out of the Beef Birria tacos, which probably would have been their best option. Salsas were solid and not overly spicy. Tortillas were fresh, which is another plus! Prices are average/expensive as it's the West Loop (NYC based) and the tacos are average sized. $5-$7/taco and $10 for the quesadilla. Margarita was $14 so average price of cocktails in Chicago. The quesadilla was bigger than your typical app sized quesadilla and I thought it was worth the price. Food came out fast, but our waitress was bad. My buddy asked her for limes, which she completely ignored. We asked for forks and she never brought them so I went up and got some. Essentially Tacombi is Nando's Chicken from a service standpoint and they ask for a full service tip. Also, I noticed that they had a huge staff and many of them were just standing around. I am sure that they would have needed it for the popup so that was probably the reason why, but it wasn't busy whatsoever during a prime dining time. Maybe cut labor costs and the tacos could be a little cheaper. Overall, if you don't mind overpriced mid food with cool vibes in the West Loop, then Tacombi is for you. Tacombi sums up the West Loop perfectly and it fits in well (mid food/cool vibes/instagramable/bad service). There are so many restaurants like this in the West Loop/Fulton Market and I think Tacombi is average at best. Tacombi is somewhat corporate as they have locations across the US. Definitely not a hole in the wall place, but there are a lot of better local taco places in Humbolt Park/Logan Square. TBF there are not many authentic taco places in the Fulton Market so this is a great business move for them and I see it performing well. I am glad that I tried Tacombi, but IMO it's not worth my money and I will probably only visit if I get dragged to it.

Yelp
1. Beef Birria - jalisco brisket w/ Chihuahua cheese 2. Baja Crispy Fish - beer battered 3. Al Pastor Quesadilla 4. Huevos Con Pastor breakfast taco Textures and flavors were excellent in every taco and quesadilla we got. The tacos were on the smaller side though and very pricey. I'd come here if I'm in the neighborhood and craving Mexican food but I wouldn't go out of my way. Love the ample seating space. Service was good.

Yelp
Taco Tuesday is a great deal. The beef birria tacos are by far the star of the show. The other tacos are great too. The atmosphere is fun but the inside is a little loud. They seem to be pretty allergy friendly too (they cook fin fish and shellfish on a separate stove to avoid cross contamination). Waitress was nice

Yelp
Kind of a let down after waiting 1.5 hours. The food came out in 5 minutes. We went for the El Califa de Leon pop-up (restaurant from Mexico City with a Michelin star). The pop-up tacos were okay, kind of bland. Their signature salsas did add some pop. We thought the el pastor taco from Tacombi's menu was the best part of the meal! Fresh pastor with grilled pineapple and lots of flavor. Definitely not a date night spot and also not sure if it was worth the long wait.

Yelp
Aaron was amazing! We went for taco Tuesday for the BOGO tacos. Ended up with tequila shots on the house too. Was perfect and reminded me of an amazing little place to stop by for good food

Yelp
Tacombi is different. While the ambiance and interior are nice, the food, on the other hand, doesn't match up. The price is quite high, and the taste was inconsistent. Our party ordered the same tacos, but some were overcooked, while others had uneven portions. While it's a nice place to try, I don't think we'd return, even with all the hype.

Yelp
Ordered takeout on a lazy Sunday, we had been wanting to try it. The tacos are on the small side, but tasty. We ordered chips and guac and the corn as well. I was shocked at the container of guac, it was tiny. Like a chipotle size scoop for an $8 app was kinda ridiculous. Also, for ordering 6 tacos, they only packed two salsas with the order, one red one red. Overall, fresh tasty food but there are so many other options in the area where portions are much better value.

Yelp
The food is just okay. Tacos are pretty small for $5-7 a piece. The quesadilla was kind of like an open face taco which was odd and the meat was so over cooked. The drinks were batched and not strong at all. Our server was very nice and quick but unfortunately the food/drink weren't great. We even went at happy hour and probably wouldn't recommend ($9 Margs and no food specials).

Yelp
Overall good experience. Food was tasty, but it was spicy even when not labeled as such. Table/chairs could use some more cleaning, but the staff was lovely. They have some handy hanging hooks located near tables for easy use if someone in your party needs to hang a coat, purse, or bag. I don't necessarily feel as though it's a priority place for me to return to, but worth giving a try if you haven't tried it out yet!

Yelp
I ordered a fish, a shrimp, and a carne asada taco. Photo of the carne asada taco is attached. Description says it has "caramelized onions and roasted jalapenos". Does that sound like what I got? Oh but wait, the best part: the taco was $7. This microscopic taco is $3 at any typical taco joint. You've been warned. The shrimp and fish tacos were okay but similarly overpriced. I guess it's the super expensive west loop rent? Not worth it in any way. Hostess and servers were very nice.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this open concept restaurant while exploring the West Loop. I cannot recommend this place enough. The place is adorable and each table had a small coatrack as it just got chilly in Chicago. The staff are so helpful and so friendly, even giving me a free bag of tortilla chips. The food is absolutely delicious and the tostadas and tortillas are so fresh. As a vegetarian, I got the avocado tostada and the huevos mexicana and it was the perfect meal along with guacamole. Tip: if you're getting a to go order, you order at the counter when you first walk in. If you're dining in, order via QR code at the table. The menu is super helpful with photos of everything along with the availability. I wish the corn esquites were available for my visit to try but I'll definitely be back'
